  • Hi! This one's a bit shorter than the other two. It took quite a while to finish, but I get to learn other aspects and styles of animation and visual storytelling :D
The artist of this song, Trickle, was kind enough to remake clearer version of the music. I am very greatful for that ^^

Hello, I am Trickle! It is such an honor to have my song, Ghost Town, used as the music in this incredible animation! SAD is such an amazing artist, and I am so happy to see creativity bloom in ways that I never thought would happen with something of mine. Thank you, SAD, for this honor, and thank you to the wonderful fans of animation for watching! I hope that you enjoy 💙 God bless!

Let us all never forget that the chat kept calling Stanley and The Narrator "BBG", that was the moment in history.

  • @livingangrycheese2668
    @livingangrycheese2668 Год назад +5852

Ok this is my theory: Yellow Zone shows Stanley stuck in a time loop, trying to escape and dying each time. These are not the only times he's tried, it just shows the final couple attempts, the last of which has Stanley realising where the Narrator is controlling the defences from, and turning from the exit to instead attack the narrator himself. He breaks the watch causing the world itself to begin to decay as seen in Blank Decay.
Here Stanley and the Narrator have teamed up to survive in the decaying world against the glitch monsters. The Narrator still has some power to control the world, which he harnesses by absorbing the glitch monsters as they attempt to fire, but this clearly seems to cause some corruption to himself. Upon Stanley dying it becomes clear that the Narrator actually really cares about Stanley, and harnesses the power to remake the clock and turn back time to resurrect him. Upon turning the time back, moving from Blank Decay to Blue Lies the Narrator has left his control room to see Stanley in person - it's clear he's given up on trying to stop him, perhaps after all the time they spent together in Blank Decay.
However, Stanley is angry at being resurrected, perhaps because of the trauma of dying repeatedly and slams the narrator against the wall, taking the watch. It's clear even in Blank Decay that the two argued a lot, with my interpretation being that Stanley blames the Narrator for the world becoming this way because he had to break it to escape, while the Narrator believes what he did was right. It's not really clear at all why the Narrator has been stopping Stanley from escaping. Perhaps he believes he's protecting Stanley in some way? Or perhaps Stanley escaping would kill the narrator? Either way, as Stanley goes to escape in Blue Lies it shows his clear trauma from dying repeatedly. Then, the world begins to break, revealing that he is in fact trapped within an animation. His past death from Blank Decay watches him from the mirror and then reaches out to him from the film reel. I'm not entirely sure what this is meant to represent, perhaps his trauma or my favourite interpretation - his predetermined destiny of dying in the animation. Using this interpretation, as he tries to escape, the animation tries to close the bars on him, changing scene, perhaps to his death, but he physically grabs the bars, leaping through, creating his own destiny. As he finally reaches the doors he looks back seeing the narrator he's left behind. He hesitates for a moment, as despite his hatred thanks to what the narrator did to him, in Blank Decay he did begin to care about him. However, he dismissed the thought, and goes through the exit door, taking him to the bedroom at the end. Throughout the animations Stanley is the only one who attempts to reach the exit door, and when seeing the exit in Blank Decay Stanley seems excited while the Narrator is not. It seems the Narrator either can't leave or doesn't want to. The falling glasses towards the end of this animation seem to imply that Stanley leaving is killing the narrator. I do not think this is the end of the series, partly because "it was all a dream" is a disappointingly boring and lazy ending so I hope that's not what SAD-ist is going for. I have a few theories about the ending: one is that this is not the real world, and Stanley has woken up either into the opening scene of Portal 2 or woken up in Superliminal. Another is that this IS the real world, but he truly was in a simulation and is going to go back to try to save the narrator. In the Portal or Superliminal scenario he might also go back for the narrator and work with him to escape this new simulation too.

My theory is that it's actually possible that Stanley might not have memories beyond Yellow Zone, aka Blank Decay, until later on in the video! Maybe that's why he was angry at the narrator, because he didn't remember the time where he fought together in Blank Decay until the footage was reeled back and Stanley remembers the time they fought together?

One thing I don’t see talked about enough is the incredible use of colours! It’s clear to me that Narrator has the bright yellow and Stanley the neon pink (which I adore as contrasts), and where in the first animation the backgrounds were more yellow and the cameras had the yellow lights, now everything has the pink tinge instead. Also, in the first one we see that Narrator has completely yellow eyes while he has control of the clock, and when Stanley takes it off him, his eyes become normal again, showing that the clock itself has some kind of power over them. Now that Stanley has the new clock that Narrator had to make to save his life last time, he’s struggling against that power too (the evil reflection with the completely pink eyes), but he manages not to give in just long enough to escape- without Narrator.

Shows even in a narration, the narrator can never truly leave Stanley Parable.
In the actual game, only stanley is ever really capable of leaving. And it shows as the narrator constantly resets to the time Stanley returns to the office. Its kinda sad to be honest. Narrator doesnt have a story without Stanley. But he is crossed when his world hurts him. And so he chooses to let him go. It was still terrifying to be eaten by code and still painful to watch Stanley leave, but he accepted it. And Stanley kept his choice firm to want to leave the parable and go home. Even if he felt bad for allowing the narrator to disappear.

Personal theory (explanation???) on this because I am INVESTED (Sorry lmao)
This is really the first time Stanley’s actually ever made it to the exit door. In Yellow Zone he went for the Narrator instead, which breaking the clock would’ve caused Blank Decay. Although he does get to the door in Blank Decay, I’ll point out the exit light above it is flickering, so somehow it could be broken or something.
When Stanley reaches the exit door, that would theoretically destroy the world, and also the Narrator, and when the Narrator dies/disappears the story/world also falls apart, which would explain 0:38 - 0:42 (the tape is burnt off at the end where the narrator used to be. Obviously by the look od desperation on Stanley’s face at 0:42, he just learnt this, and he hesitates before the world starts breaking for underneath him, which is why I think he was put into the fully little tape void. The tape void is sort of how the whole resetting Stanley thing works, and would possibly be the 'backbone' of the world. Or could be completely metaphorical, but... yk!
He definitely changes his mind though and decides to leave after he sees his past lives at 0:46, and especially at 0:48. (Come on, we all saw how aggressively we ripped the screen back open and the look on his face at 0:50, he basically stumbled back into the screen) He starts running back towards the exit door again, and it’s the first time he’s ever actually gotten to and through the door! yay!
And it’s all a dream! (But what if it isn’t!) Two things to note in his room in this scene is the book that says ‘The Beginner’s’, most likely a beginners guide to.. something. BUT, more importantly! The other tab on the computer says ‘Narrator’ on it! (It also looks the have a ‘K’ or a 'R' next to it, but that could also easily just be an X.) This means that if it was a dream, he remembers it, and could possibly doing research on it, or the two worlds are connected! (Or the same world!) Also just a nice little note that right at the end the window fades to a yellow screen :)
Random Edit: Alternatively I also thought that's where the name 'clock out' could come from, like 'clocking out' of his dream??? idrk lmao)
ANYWAY! Goddamn I love this series 😭 Never stop. Please lmk what other people think because I would genuinely love to know

@@dapperaster7537 from my understanding: the first animation “Yellow Zone” is where Stanley is trying to escape the loop he is trapped in, with The Narrator stopping him. Stanley has already tried escaping many times before that. He manages to break into The Narrator’s control room, and destroys the clock he has, thinking it will break the time loop. This then leads onto the second animation “Blank Decay” where breaking the clock actually broke the timeline instead of freeing him from the loop, resulting in a nightmarish version of their world. He then finds The Narrator, and they get into an argument. We can’t hear it, but we can guess that it’s about the time loop. This argument attracts the attention of one of the monsters in the area, and Stanley is injured. It tries to kill him, but The Narrator breaks a chair over its head, either trying to attract its attention or harm it. The chair does no damage to the monster, but it does notice him. The monster chases after The Narrator, pinning him to the floor. He sees the cog on its screen, and he grabs it (I think he recognises it as part of the clock. I don’t think this is the first time he’s been in this situation.). The monster is destroyed, but it also decays the skin from The Narrator’s arm. He gets up to help Stanley. Looking at Stanley’s injuries reminds him of the several other times he has died. They travel to find the exit, and just as they reach it, more monsters appear to stop them. One of them shoots Stanley through the chest, and he dies. The Narrator fights the monsters, losing a leg, but manages to grab the cog of one of them. He absorbs all the cogs, and puts them together to create the clock again. Stanley wakes up in the loop again, crying. He turns around to find The Narrator standing there. This then leads to the third animation “Blue Lies”, where Stanley angrily shoves The Narrator against the wall. (Angry probably because he’s once again stuck in the loop because of him). He takes the clock, determined to finally leave. The Narrator, after going through so many alternate endings, doesn’t try to stop him. Stanley gets to exit, where he has died so many times before, and just as he grasps the exit door, the floor breaks underneath him. The timeline is trying to stop him from leaving again, without The Narrator’s help, who he sees standing on what remains of the corridor. The Narrator is then gone from Stanley’s sight. The other version of Stanley that we see in the film tape might be the result of the deaths from the time loops, seeing as he has the injuries Stanley got when he died. Stanley reaches the exit, and wakes up at home. This time, it seems he has really broken the time loop.
This explanation is pretty long, and is probably not accurate either.

No but surely we'll come back to him somehow, right? Anyway this animation is really fluid as always. I like how not only did you capture the creepy vibe of the many other versions of Stanley who died, but made the appearance of apocalypse Stanley the most impactful. The idea of Stanley finally getting away and going to real life thinking he'll be happy only to have the realization that, once again, the end is never the end... The subtle movements from the characters that exhibit their thoughts/emotions is so good! The tightening of his grip around the pocketwatch, the little breath right before he gets shoved, the pupils getting smaller!! All of these small little details tell such a great story! I loved how his previous deaths came up so many times throughout the animation! Along with the music you can just tell these memories of death are haunting this poor guy. Every appearance of the pink eyed version was so cool! Especially when it appeared in the roll of film. That death was different than the others, significantly so. That life broke the pattern of all the others and seeing it represented through the film was so cool! Ah there were so many cool actions and details that I could keep ranting about! This is an amazing animation and I've noticed a few things I want to point out about this animation and the others in the Clock Out series
1.Based on the other videos in the series,( mainly Blank Decay) the narrator isn't the one in control here. He might be in a position of power yes but not completely he may be controlled by the clock or something possessing it .
    2. In this animation I noticed that at 0:48 the film is broken. This may represent Stanley's cycle of life and death in some way.
    3. The office seems to be some kind of prison, trapping Stanley and maybe even the narrator and when Stanley wants to escape it tries to contain him by deconstructing itself and in 0:38 breaking completely.
    4. In that one scene in Blank Decay where Stanley and Narrator are arguing I believe its because when Stanley broke the clock it sent them to that dimension.
    5. Also In Blank Decay the monsters had gears inside them. Maybe the monsters were possessing the clocks gears and when it was broken it corrupted the dimension?
Anyways this is a very nice animation
    Edit:I noticed some other stuff
I have a second idea about 0:48 maybe the reason why the film broke was because the death was unplanned
Also 0:19 shows that there are two separate Stanleys I believe that this could be'normal' Stanley and subconscious Stanley since it all ended when Stanley woke up. Maybe someone was trying to control him?
    Yellow =Narrator and the Monsters
Red =the surroundings when something is wrong (the camera dots turn red instead of yellow)
    Blue = Stanley

    Unbelievably cool, oh my god.
    Long comment, be warned
0:08 the way yellow doesn't even try to fight back. And the small stiffening in his shoulder before blue hits! So many details
0:19 u think it's worth noting that the reflection's eyes are BRIGHT red, which usually symbolizes damage in Clock 0ut. Is it just a very literal representation of his deaths haunting him or something else??? I wonder
0:20 ohhhh the way this sequence is a parallel to the sequence in yellow zone when he first opens the door!! The door opening the exit door in center frame, the sliding in of the image of him and the clock like a comic book. Just. Such a cool representation of how it's all a circle! It goes back to the beginning!
0:23 the light at the top of the camera has changed from yellow to red. That's probably significant somehow. And all the different deaths! The way they really give a scale for how many times it must have taken for him to get to the point in yellow zone where he was able to escape!
0:30 if you slow down the frames, you can see the clapperboard, the camera, the clock, and the clapperboard again, not necessarily in that order. The camera light is red again, and in the reflection(?) of the camera you can see the clapper with all the information scratched out. The first time the clapper shows up, the amount of takes is scratched out, but the second time, it clearly says 1. I'm thinking the "roll" label is a nod to the amount of frames in this animation, considering how high the number is. I can't read the name of the director, but the production name states "Clock 0ut". Scene 3. Reminds me of the Truman show, honestly, the whole animation series- with the clever fourth wall breaks, the idea of a man trapped in an artificial world that revolves around him, and the semi-malicious operator that oversees it.
0:40 everything's falling apart! I love how the new background is actually black, like the one from Blank Decay instead of the grayish background from Yellow Zone.
And I love how each frame changing in the animation ACTUALLY changes the animation frame
And the fact that Blue looks genuinely distressed when yellow eyes disappears despite being understandably pissed at him
0:43 the way the cracks around him form the shape of the screens from yellow zone and of the monsters from blank decay!
He also no longer has the clock in his hands-
0:48 the appearance of his apocalypse self- and the way it breaks the frame when it reaches for him
0:50 just. This entire sequence- from him pulling the borders apart, to running across the film strip, the brief moment where he's in the air and he has dizzy eyes, the fact that there's TWO different colors of LIGHTING from the reels and the background and the same massive swing-jump from yellow zone!
0:58 I love this form of non-verbal storytelling.
Like, it's reiterating the fact that yellow eyes is gone. And the anger and grief on blue's face before he opens the door.
I think it's interesting that yellow's glasses are still there, and in Blank Decay, you can see him picking out glasses in the ruins of an optometrist store.
And something else- bringing it back to 0:43 - the clock disappears when yellow does, and he made the clock, but his glasses don't, and in yellow zone, during the sketchy bit, the fact that the clock and yellow's outlines are drawn in the exact same color while the glasses are drawn in gray- idk, just seems like it means something.
Also I think it's funny, because Blank Decay established that he's not even human, so he probably doesn't even need glasses. He's doing it for the style
1:00 he wakes up! And the brief moment of silence in the music as he does! And that transition was so SMOOTH my god. And he has a normal bedroom(?) and is actually a real person?
1:04 the beginners guide? And the patron list is strawberries!
Sorry for the long rant! Any replies are appreciated, I'd love to talk about this or just clean up the commnet

Small note to make: Each of the animations' titles has a colour in it that kind of matches who the environment bends around. In Yellow Zone, the narrator has control and manipulates the environment to play keep away with Stanley. In Blank Decay, the environment isn't bending to either of them, and the two are just trying to survive. In Blue Lies, everything starts to decay around Stanley specifically, without the narrator's influence.

I just wrote an essay on this video for my animation class. I really love the movement and style you have for this series. Keep up the great work!

Let me share my theory here
Blue lies : lies that police officers told to protect others
I think the narrator tries to talk to Stanley at the start of this animation
He used to protect the exit gate(Yellow zone), but after he spent time with Stanley, he understood him and helped lead him to the exit gate(Blank Decay). Afterwards, in a near death experience with Stanley, he then fixes the clock and rewind the time. This made Stanley despise him despite he was trying to help. + At 0:24, the narrator is watching Stanley escape through the cam (This can be viewed as 1) he tries to help or 2) he still wants to prevent Stanley's escape)
The reason he protect the exit gate is because the world they lived in is the narrator world; it is his existence (that's why he disappeared at 0:40 (+flim is also burnt)
(This can't explain 0:38, but I have no other idea :

Bro the lore is so deep, the way that Stanley (or the protagonist) taking control of the time watch and use it to escape while ignoring the narrator(glasses guy) show how broke Stanley's heart after being betrayed(even when the narrator is just trying to save him, or more of letting the story continued) is so good. And who is that dark stanely??
    This need an explanation
(Sorry for being that guy... Um....sorry for any mistakes in the text, English isnt my first language)

Theory time! I love this series so much! :D
In Blank Decay when Narrator loses his arm/leg and hits the ground, you can see as he opens his eye that it's both yellow and black just like those weird electronic-glitch beasts. He also draws the clock parts out of them to rewind time, and his corruption looks suspiciously like them with the memory of a form intact. His film is also burned instead of torn, making him disappear. I think that the narrator is a part of the dream in some way, whether someone so fully incorporated into it that he's lost some of his memories, or a creation of the dream, or a former 'inmate,' or just a memory.
It's really interesting to think about. Please let us know if the narrator ever gets out of there! I'm sad Stanley wasn't able to at least keep ahold of the pocket watch in his escape.

Fascinating little detail: At 1:11 as the screen cuts to black, you can see a yellow computer screen in the center of the frame. I think this might give us some insight about our narrator...

WOW. This was a whole experience to watch.
0:36 Feels like a slapstick bit out of an old cartoon. Look at those dizzy eyes and the way Stanley falls. Scrunkly little guy.
0:57 The difference between Stanley and Narrator right there - Narrator reset because of Stanley dying in Blank Decay, showing he cares about Stanley above all no matter what, but Stanley's determination and anger at Narrator lets him leave without Narrator.
1:04 Wait a minute, that tab on the laptop says Narrator... Did that all take place inside Stanley's laptop, and if so, is Narrator still in there? Can Stanley go back and save him, or save him from the outside? (Also, is that green book supposed to be a reference to The Beginner's Guide? No other book has a title, so I bet it is.)
1:11 Also, slightly concerned about why the window turns into the silhouette of a computer. Just a little bit.

theory: i actually think maybe the film/production theme [like the film reels and the clapboard] isn't meant to be about the fourth wall directly, but more about it generally just being stanley's "theme", along with the magenta accent colors. while the narrator's theme is the office building, with yellow accents, which explains why the office seems to completely break down along with the sky turning dark [which didn't happen in yz] right when stanley tries the exit door. the dark background also has yellow at the top that fades away as stanley falls, and pink on the bottom, suggesting a transition between their themes. i think also this is shown by the fact that the camera closeup that appears has a magenta dot at the top instead of the yellow dot in yellow zone, and since both offices and film production have cameras
the clock probably is the source of power, and the magenta seems to be its color when stanley is using it, because in yellow zone there are magenta electricity crackles around the clock when stanley's holding it!
but it's interesting that the color of stanley himself is blue instead of that color, maybe narrator had a different color of his own but it got overwritten because he had and used the clock for so long [pre-yellow zone]?
and maybe the room stanley wakes up in was created by himself subconsciously, or something along those lines, since the room mainly has a pinkish hue. well, if he still has the clock. i'm not sure if he did actually have the clock when he exited, it seemed to just disappear from his hands sometime when he was falling but maybe he pocketed it or something

Man SAD-it’s never fails with her animations. They insanely well done and you can see the effort she puts into them. It’s insane how good her storytelling through just drawings and no words. Outstanding job SAD-ist
