    I see my eye guy twice a year. A few weeks ago he tells me I have unusual eyeball pressure. I felt no difference. Told him not interested. He says next step is glaucoma then blindness. He says to take these prescription eye drops. How Long?. He says the rest of your life. I just turned 75yo. Fofrtunatly the script is covered by insurance. Getting older sucks. I experienced exactly as described.... A family history of glaucoma and from middle age for quite a few years my own eye pressure was kept under control with medication. Suddenly the pressure spiked (eye pain and headache) and medication was mostly ineffective. I went to a hospital that specializes in eye problems here in Japan where I reside, going there because my web research informed that they were one of a very few places that had implemented the trabectome treatment method, a relatively non-invasive procedure to treat the high pressure. I had the procedure in both eyes, but the results were unfortunately relatively ineffective. The same hospital advised trabeculectomy, and the same physician did the procedure, and they added cataract surgery, it not being essential at that point, but given my age and determining that I likely would be needing it in the future, they combined the procedures. I guess I was in the chair for a little over an hour for each eye. Now for a number of years after that, the pressure has remained normal without the use of medication. Here the hospital stay is pretty long after such treatment, I think I was there for about ten days. One thing I could tell when the procedure was being done, the physician doing the work, a professor, it being a teaching university hospital, and the head of the large ophthalmology department, he had gifted hands. You need a referral from another place to get eye treatment there, and man they are busy.

    I was diagnosed at 37 out of the blue with pressures over 30. First i was on timilol which worked for 3 years. Then pressure got high again and was on timilol dorzolamide. Fine for another 3 years. Now I'm on latanaprost with the other 2 . I just wish i could have a simple operation so i didn't have to worry all the time thinking how long will this one work for.

    I had retina surgery for a macular hole on February 5, 2024. Everything was looking good except for a small dip..I knew it wouldn't be 100% No more black spot in my vision. I started having issues on Sept 17, 2024. I could see like a web like distortion and obvious decline in my eye. Went to ophthalmologist..pressure in eye was high. He seems to think I had a mini stroke which caused my vision loss. He is sending me for a carteoid ultrasound to see if there was a stroke. He said the blood vessels in my eye were damaged due to lack of oxygen. He said my eye is very messed up. Not sure what to do now...I know the ophthalmologist is a colleague of the retina specialist..not sure I'd he's relaying this info to him or not. I hate to go over his head for info.
    I had originally got to another ophthalmologist when i was diagnosed with hole by an optometrist and they the first ophthalmologist said basically he couldn't do anything. It took me 7 months to get in to see a retina specialist and he got me in for the macular hole surgery within 5 days after I changed my medical insurance to a PPO. Everything was good till a week ago. I'm beyond at my wits end with all of this. Fortunately my other eye so far is just OK. It also has a cataract in it...but not bad enough for surgery yet. Trying to navigate around and driving is difficult right now. I have an appointment on October 8 at ophthalmologist after I get my cartoid ultrasound. Been dealing with cancer scares too..since I have smoldering multiple myeloma...fortunately that is still dormant..been like that for over 10 years. Those getting old stuff is wearing me out...not sure how much more of this I want to endure to be honest

I have Glaucoma and I'm on Glucomol 0.5% eye drops since 4 years. The eye pressure is well under control. Since three months I've observed few floaters in my left eye as well. I've consulted the ophthalmologist and he has advised me to forget about this problem and learn to live with it. Although I have accepted it as my fate but just saw your video and thought of consulting you about my problem. I'm diabetic and hypertensive since 12 years but maintained good levels with healthy lifestyle. I'm 58 years man. I'm taking GNC 50 + multi vitamin since 10 years.

    If one cannot tell that they have high pressure, i suppose no one notices that, once treated, they have decreased pressure? It is only by the doctors test that one can tell if treatment is working?

    • @GetEyeFacts
      @GetEyeFacts  Год назад +1

      yes exactly, in almost all cases, the pressure decrease that results from medication will not be noticed by a patient in the cases of open angle glacuoma. In closed angle glaucoma, where the pressure goes up very high very quickly and there is eye pain, when this is treated and the pressure comes down the patient will notice relief. this is why following up for doctors visits in the case of glaucoma is so important.

    • @GetEyeFacts
      @GetEyeFacts  Год назад +1

      Yes and no - it depends on what is the cause of the blurry vision. In some cases you may need to have a laser to clear up the back capsule of the cataract. This is pretty common and many people need laser after cataract surgery. In some cases, you may need glasses years after surgery if your prescription changes again. It's tough to say as each case is unique and individual.

    • @GetEyeFacts
      @GetEyeFacts  Год назад +2

      Latanoprost is in a class of medication called PGAs. This medication class specifically works by increasing "uveoscleral outflow" - this basically means that it helps fluid from the eye exit the eye faster and more efficiently. This is how it lowers pressure. Great question, I can make a video on how different glaucoma drugs work.

    Wondering why the pressure was measured by the blue light at 24 and the hand held tonometer at 21. Which is more accurate? Thank you!!

    • @GetEyeFacts
      @GetEyeFacts  Год назад +3

      Typically the blue light (pressure measured by applanation ) is considered to be more accurate. However, sometimes checking pressure can be affected by patients not being able to keep their eye open. So, if an eye doctor has to struggle to keep a patient's eye open, or if the patient is blinking, then the hand held tonometer may be considered to be a better reading. If the doctor needs to hold the eyelids open and inadvertent pressure is placed on the eye during this, then the eye pressure may read higher than it actually is. So, there is some nuance to considering something accurate because the conditions under which is was measured also matters.
