- THIS was the moment Michael Finally realised the REAL Traitor...
In The Godfather 2, we find out that Fredo was the traitor in the Corleone family and Michael says these iconic lines, "I know it was you, Fredo. You broke my heart. You broke my heart!"
But a Question that most of us have is, what did Fredo actually do? And you’re right to ask, as the film does not explicitly reveal what exactly Fredo did, But there are just enough details hidden that give us an idea of how exactly Fredo betrayed the family.
Here is what we know for certain. Fredo was involved In some way or the other, in the assassination attempt. Either he just gave up the information regarding the Corleone estate layout, and Michaels exact whereabouts, giving the Roth all the information he needed to pass down to his assassins, Or he could have had a much larger role.
We know that even prior to the assassination attempt Fredo was relaying some vital information to Roth and Johnny Ola, such as, what was being said in private meetings, Michaels business plans, and any other insights into what Michael was planning or thinking.
However the extent of his involvement is not very clear. Because the question remains who opened the drapes in Michaels room? How did the assassins even get into the compound? And who later took them out? Could Fredo have masterminded this whole thing?
Well, we might have found out the answers to all these questions, And we’ll get into the evidence we found and the reasons behind them, Because this is something we really have to discuss in a future video, so make sure you’re part of The Culture Mafia.

Not only does he break Michael’s heart but I think the facepalm is also at Fredo’s complete and utter stupidity.
I agree. He knows it was stupid asf for Fredo to have a slip up that unforgivable while adding to that, to have your own brother try and have you killed would have been really painful too.
"I'm related to this fkin guy"
@@wowomanta 😂😂😂😂
Get a few drinks in him and he just talks and bangs cock tail waitresses
Ha!
You can see Michael's heart just drop when he realizes that his own brother set him up. Nothing like family to drive that dagger
Nobody fucks you over like family does.
Oh ye can say that again u know the sayin we can pick our friends but not our family
So true
I know this for certain and I knew to (Beware of Lions in Sheep's Clothing) but I just couldn't grasp (The Concept)! until it happened to me 😥☹️😢
Where does it state that Fredo intended to get michael killed?
Every single actor in this film knew their part and executed it FLAWLESSLY.
Amen
After seeing these shorts I realized these actors werent just doing this for acting, playing, or for money. They were all invested into this passionately enough as if they knew they were making some iconic piece of art.
@@jkphilosophy Exactly well said!Nowadays ego gets in the way of film, if people feel they don’t have a part they don’t try.
Better Call Saul does this amazingly, their extras MATTER a lot. Every character plays a role.
@@jkphilosophy no doubt! Wasn't just dumb luck casting though. Lots of talented actors in The Godfather

“I know it was you fredo, you broke my heart”

The most powerful words you can say 😢
Fredo where you going your still my brother
Fredo probably didn't even realize he was setting up his own brother.. the grudge he held for being the eldest and passed over as the head of the family
@@judiesuh6858 he’s not that dumb he knew what he was doing he just let his emotions rule him
Freddy was careless. In the past, Don Vito had said to Michael, “I spent my life trying not to be careless. Women and children can be careless, but not men.” Don Vito knew how careless Freddy was and he was passed over. By passing over Freddy, Don Vito was trying to protect him.
More than that Don Vito was protecting everything he had built since landing on Ellis Island as a sick, penniless orphan.
He knew above anyone else save Carmela, that Fredo was not only an imbecile but extremely weak and easily manipulated.
Unfortunately, Fredo couldn't protect himself.
FREDO!! Pronounced FRAY-DOUGH. Man’s saying Freddy like this is Scooby Doo or some shit
Yes ik he calls him Freddy to Moe Green but that’s cause he’s white washed
He wasn’t careless he was just really, *really* dumb
Plus Fredo fumbling his firearm when his father was getting shot by the Turk’s men didn’t help much either…🤦🏻
That look on Michael's face when found out that Fredo was the traitor worths every Oscar prize
Fredo betrayed Michael for his own monetary profit but was never involved with the hit. Watch the movie again. Fredo was just a useful idiot for Roth. Rocco was the real traitor involved with the assassination attempt on Michael.
Yes
Absolutely Yes.
YES .
how can enemy betray you lol, god there's too many retarded people commenting lol
john cazale was absolutely killing his role as fredo
In pairing with Pacino and his heartbreak portrayal, it was perfect moviemaking.
Agree. Better than his performance on Deer Hunter.
@@mundoeuniverso5123 probably because he was literally dying of cancer while filming deer hunter
The only role he ever played
Dog Day Afternoon too.
I think Michael definitely suspected Fredo but when he overheard Fredo there was no more room for even the slightest doubt which is why it was so devastating
Mike had his suspicions early on. You can see it in his face when they were at the outside bar in Havana talking
Fredo betrayed him but what exactly did he do? Nobody actually knows lol. Left the drapes open? There’s gotta be more to it than just that.
@BostonsF1nest he probably let th3m know Mikey's routine of when/ where but how could he not know that was an attempt to at his brother? Yeah I agree with you.
@@BostonsF1nest He snuck the two assassin's into the impenetrable Corleone compound(seriously that place was locked up tighter than Fort Knox!), he then showed them exactly where Michaels room and window was and finally opened the blinds so they could get a good shot. Oh yeah he also warned Roth about Michaels top notch Sicilian assassin and got him killed by the Havana police! So yeah he did alot actually...

What Great actor JC was. He was acting while dying from cancer. RIP
He wasnt suffering cancer during the GF.
@@JohnS-il1drThe previous poster said he was suffering, dying from cancer while still acting, which he was. He was diagnosed in 1977 and was dying from cancer after filming Dog Day Afternoon and during filming of the DeerHunter and chose to finish the film and passed in 1978. So many uneducated people that make comments nowadays that simply dont know shit.
@@EstebonSosaDe Niro and Streep threatened to quit when John was not treated fairly an almost ousted from the deer hunter. So they filmed his parts first to make sure the he would be in the whole film.

The worst betrayals are from the friends and family members you trust completely.
Or wife
@@Mobenz no shit mister. Wife is a part of family
Friends, family, allies are the only ones who can betray you. An enemy can't betray you because you expect them to try to hurt you.
You can literally feel what Al Pacino's character is going through. Only a great actor can do that.
Betrayal never comes from an enemy 👍
That's definition of betrayal 🤣
If comes from enemy it's not called betrayal 🤣
Nice
The Judas Kiss
I still had no idea how exactly Fredo betrayed Michael and I’ve seen this movie about 40 times. I don’t think anyone truly knows. Not even Coppola
That moment in life when your own family, friend or a person betrays you. Worst feeling ever.
Well, the worst part of betrayal is that it never comes from your enemies.
Fredo never had the makings of a varsity athlete
Never occured till now Michael was straight lying to Fredo when he said it was what his Pop wanted.

Al Pacino at his finest.
Scarface will always be his masterpiece, as good as the Godfather movies are.
That's just my opinion though.🤷

Yeah, that really was true heartbreak for Michael because despite Fredo’s “issues”, Michael loved & cared about his older brother deeply. After all, Fredo was the only blood brother Michael had left in the family after Sonny’s murder.
Fredo was also the only one who supported his military dreams 😢
@Don Juan A sister isn’t a blood brother, is it? Reading 101.
I never realized this part... I mean I watched but did not comprehend what I was watching!!!
Thanks for posting!
There are countless "ahh ha" scenes/moments in these movies that simply do not register right away or won't register at all unless pointed out.
“ This is my family Kay, this is not me ”
En français patate😮
This is Fredo Kay, not my family. My family ain’t stupid.
That was before Vito nearly got killed, Michael wasn’t interested in his family business at that time, but he did lied to Kay when he said he was gonna make his family legitimate (which he never did) and also lied that he didn’t commandeered all those series of murders. That’s the beauty of these mafia movies/series. Both Michael and Tommy (from Peaky blinders) are also no less than hypocrites themselves. They are evil protagonists fighting against evil antagonists
@@swarnimjambhule3264 lol
So much pain feels Michael in the end when he know his brother betrayed him
Michael doesn't feel pain, pain feels Michael like you said.
How did he betray micheal?
@@dirtycee6887it’s always ambiguous in the movie. He met Ola and Roth after saying 2x he hadn’t. Mike wasn’t bending terms w/ Roth on the casino deal. So him and Ola approached Fredo as Corleone underboss and struck a deal w/ him instead. We don’t know the particulars. But I like to think Michael’s 🤦🏾♂️ was also a “seriously bro? You go and out yourself just that easily? How did I eff up that bad by appointing you underboss?” Lol only a few things Fredo coulda done
Fredo thought they’d kidnap Mike and in order to get him free Fredo would come save the day and accept the terms from the deal that Michael kept refusing.
I remember something with the window curtains. Like Fredo may have signaled where Michael was gonna be at a certain time for a hit. Fucked up if so.
Either way, ya can’t trust a word outta Fredos mouth. He always resented Pops and Michael. He thought he deserved to be Godfather and felt everyone punking him behind his back. So he tried to plot a move that would make him look good and benefit him not realizing he outed himself unprovoked and was of course gettin played. Been yrs since I watched any of the sequels but that’s my guess
Greatest thing my dad ever told me. “Watch any movie with Pacino and Cazale” words to live by. Thank you, Papa ❤️
Does that include 'Jack & Jill'?
THE GODFATHER ll Most heartbreaking performance. Rest in Peace JOHN CAZALE 🎭 💔

Soon as he turned his head, he knew he fucked up😂😂🤦🏾♂️
"It was you Fredooo"
Not just that Fredo betrayed his brother but that he was by his very nature a liability for Michael.

Between , Fredo's betrayal and finding out that , Kay killed their unborn baby , they murdered the last spark of humanity in , Michael
Mike was so serious and ice cold ❄️🥶 He was my favorite character in the Godfather
he had the perfect BALANCE as a leader (like his father). Sonny was too much of a hothead and it cost him his life
Man that scene gives me goosebumps. Holy Shit look at Michael's face. There are no words to describe when he facepalms. 😵💫🫣
The Greatest Movie of All-time 💯
"It was you fredo"
The facepalm was more of "How is this idiot my brother?" Than " You broke my heart Fredo"
It’s been quite few years since I saw the movie and I still can’t forget the look on Michael’s main hitman when Michael hinted to him to kill Fredo when he was hugging him
Yeah that had to be the hardest hit Al Neri had to do. Michael gave the order but to be the one to have to bust a slug in a man who was like your brother also smh
I know it was you, Fredo, you broke my heart
I read in the comments in another one of these shorts that the actor that played Johnny Ola went on to play Uncle Junior in The sopranos. So now I watch this clip a hundred times in a row just to see Johnny Ola.
It's true the character Johnny ola is also the character of Uncle Junior-
HOLY SHIT!!! IT IS
Whatttt I never noticed holy shittt
Damn...good catch.
I recognised the voice straight off, never knew it till then, wow
This movie changed my life. The second in the trilogy. So deep about the world we live in. How to survive and how to fail.
R.I.P John Cazale. Brilliantly and criminally under appreciated true actor.
The face going into the palm of his hand says what am I going to do with this guy.
These movies transcends all cultures and family principles. Great acting.

Fredo didn’t know Jonny Ola, he knew another guy named Uncle Junior who used to play catch with his nephew named Tony.
I heard the same thing. Although I also heard that Tony never really did have the makings of a varsity athlete
His nephew that didn't have the makings of a varsity athlete.

The kiss he gave Fredo on that scene was so impactful. It was more of pain and disappointment than anger.
One of the greatest scenes in movie history

It's always who You least expect.
RIP John Cazale. Destined to be one of Hollywood's heavy hitters. What a legacy he left in such a short career.
@FeelLienot
As time goes on and I have gotten older I have begun to realise that Cazale steals the film. He gives the film a pathos. This is not to take away from the other great actors.
Not Sonny or Fredo could have done what Michael did and kept doing. Making Corleone Family Stronger, Wealthier & Keep your Word. He also Kept his friends close , however, keeping his enemies closer. Michael heart shattered for that second.
By keeping his enemies close he pushed his family away. Michael should have brung kate,Connie, hagen and even fredo closer to the business. What helped vito with the balance was having his family involved
to keep your friends close but your enemies closer is a phrase meaning to see the enemy in your friends and keep that enemy close. meaning always know the bad side of your friends and always keep that side close and know what they are capable of doing to avoid getting betrayed or to know when betrayal will happen.
Everyone says terminator 2 is the best sequel ever , for me it's godfather 2 , nothing else comes close !!!!!
All that footage of Vito and his family and how he gained the trust of so many. I love it all. Vito established himself as a formidable leader. He epitomised the idea of the seriousness of a man who walked softly and spoke softly.
Rocky 2 was pretty good
Spiderman 2
Who says terminator 2 is the best? I say scary movie 2 was the tits. "Quick! Grab ma strong hand!"
Terminator 2 is Mikey mousse compared to the Godfather
Cazale is the most talented actor ever!!
It worked well with his hideous face. He really used it to his advantage... the oblong head. The vacant eyes of an imbecile. His innate pitiful look. His cringe voice.
Many don't realize how all the films he was in did really well.
Definitely one of the best actors of his brief time.

Sharp as a cue ball that Fredo
Michael corleon listened more than he talked.
At that moment, Michael's world came crashing down as he already knew what he had to do. His regret was already felt and his decision to do nothing was never an option. And to think what would happen if Fredo was never so careless, maybe Michael's plans would have never been carried out.
What’s the music in the background?
I know a guy who was just like Frado, loved him like a brother helped him and his family. I watched him side against me as I lost everything during the pandemic, I could see the lies in eyes as he stared at me
Wow..can you please tell me more? I’m so sorry for your losses during C19 man.

I am not really a fan of Machiavelli. I respect and adore Marcus Aurelius's principles more. But when you face betrayals from people you wish to trust, you can think "humans are basically selfish, cruel, cowardly ".
people pretend to be loyal when only danger looks far from them
Mike was sooo hurt and disappointed with his traitorest brother Fredo.
Al Pacino's move covering his face with his cigarette is just the finest reaction in any movie.
I would have just laid low if the situation escalated like that Fredo made himself look suspicious as hell
Painful…the heartbreak In Michael’s face.
It was surprising and heartbreaking at the same time to see Michael tip his hand by publically showing such deep emotion. Good thing his idiot brother didn't catch it.

Envy is a powerful emotion! Fredo proved himself by watching gunmen shoot his father 5 times! To think he actually though he was passed over/disrespected while actively being dumb as dirt!
It was so obvious, and irrational, in the movie. As if Fredo would forget his darkest secret to the point of admitting it publicly in front of Michael and then adding in details.
Don't forget, Fredo was smashed.
