- Today I took the plunge and did my CBT training with RJH with a view to going on to get my big bike licence. I’m a car nut, always have been, always will be. But being surrounded by bikes all day, every day has forced me into looking at bikes a different way, and yes they are very cool. This is an insight in to compulsory basic training needed to get out there on a 125cc motorbike with L-plates. And well if I can do it…. So can you!

Nice vid, would have been a bit easier to hear if you hadn't filmed it during hurricane Katrina
ha!! IT would have been easier to film too if it wasn't for that weather (and a hell of a lot warmer to film too!)
@@jandsaccessories30 I have my cbt tomorrow, you're video has made me feel a little calmer about it. Thanks guys.
@@wordsmithgobshite3296 Good luck for tomorrow and I'm glad we could be of assistance!
Wait, that was a hurricane, I thought it was just our typical UK weather xD
Just watched this video been debating who to book my cbt with. Definitely going to be going for RJH looks well worth the trip over.
I'm thinking about CBT training, but when I hear that voices from the radio.. It is hard to understand anything :( It scares me :(
I have a M3 oh a Golf lol my CBT was nothing like these vids on RUclips a couple of laps round a car park a hour on the road done by lunch but I have experience and he said he could tell now onto my full license
I’m 16 and doing my cbt on the 13th of April and this has helped so much thank you I purchased a helmet the scorpion exo-520 and a pair of gloves and the staff was amazing with their enthusiasm for riding and how well they were Able to help me make a good purchase defiantly can’t wait to stop by again
Fantastic, Good luck with your CBT and thanks for stopping by!
how was your cbt? iam going on this tuesday :)
@@stevedrengr2698 your cbt go well? Mines next tuesday 😎
@@imonly8354 yes, was amazing, soo much fun 🤪
This video started off so well! I know there was sound issues and that previous people have mentioned it. However, despite that, I found Sylvia VERY informative and I tried to get as much useful info out of it as I could. Had an ulterior motive for watching it, as I have a pre-training session and CBT day course coming up this month, so I stumbled across this video online. My kit is being sponsored / hired by my employers from you and as I have no transport of my own (Ironically), I haven't been able to visit you in person to collect it, so this gives me a chance to see the place the kit will be coming from. As a novice with no prior bicycle riding capabilities, I DO find this daunting, but I think I will be interested to see how it goes!
Thanks for sharing this video with us (And well done to the lad in the video who got his CBT, too!).
Exellent! Good luck on your training and CBT :)
@@jandsaccessories30 Unfortunately, I had balance issues (I can't ride a bicycle, so it was really no surprise that I didn't get far). I wasn't invited to come back for the CBT course and that has devasted me.
Although my Spartan jacket and over trousers were too big for me, all of the rest fitted fine, especially the helmet, which was a perfect fit. It is a shame to give it back, but I know I have to. Gutted that I couldn't use it more, but I really appreciate the opportunity I was given, even so briefly. Having never done anything like that before, at least I tried something new, even if I failed fulfill my Biking ambition.
@@leoboyle Now I'm worried about mine, I haven't ridden a bicycle in years. I was told everybody passes their CBT. I'll probably wobble if they're heavy to handle.
@@jandsaccessories30 Just for info, at 0:41 it says provisional "lisence"... and after the road ride, maneuvers (UK: manoeuvres)

That Lady could teach me any day. Not being a perve. But she's polite well spoken. Been toying with doing my CBT. Used ride bikes years back before law changed. Hung up my helmet when could no longer ride my Suzuki. But I'm nervous type .

I wasn't the only one thinking that then 😂
"It's nice and light"
This has made me feel a lot better about the questions and things they’ll ask me in my CBT course, I’m 16 and doing it for a moped so it won’t be as hard
You passed?
Come on dude it’s been two years……we gotta know!
I hadn't been on a bike in over 10 years and took my CBT yesterday.
I was absolutely useless maneuvering around the compound and just couldn't seem to get it.
Needless to say, I wasnt allowed to continue which was a huge relief to be honest
I'm going to book some pre CBT lessons in order to improve in a safe environment because as much as I'd like to get out on the road, I dont want to end up a cropper.
I wont be booking another CBT until I can handle a bike with ease
Yes spending time getting to know ur bike ,,gear changes ect .. half of it is just having pre riding experience for a few hrs
I entirely agree. I withdrew after 3 hours on my CBT Training day. I had never been on a scooter/motorbike (which was why I paid for the "training" day) yet it became clear I was expected to understand how the throttle worked by being told repeatedly "down to move and up to stop" through a crackling earpiece-not quite that simple is it! . Manoevering without a good knowledge of how a motorcycle works (which itself takes time) was problematic and I felt I was holding the other pupil back so went home. If I'd been told by the motorbike school what I should genuinely know about a bike before the day I wouldn't have gone, but then, the school wouldn't have been paid, would they(!)
@@pauldunn81 That's worrying, I don't have a clue either and asked them if I should know anything. They've said no, but they have a load of 1 star reviews saying they were expected to know the Highway Code. To me, motorbikes look heavy and I'm worried I will fall off. I've never even heard of a pre-CBT. I thought that was the first thing to do.
@@TaxingIsThieving My impression was that I was expected to know how to manoeuvre a motorbike, something which I thought the CBT was going to teach me, not a three word instruction which was just repeated at me for hours through a headpiece whilst actually attempting to ride the motorbike, and this was on a private car park. The other riders were clearly already competent on their bikes and just wanted to get the pass to progress to riding on the road and get through their CBT. It was clear to me that I wasn't ready going to be ready for the public highway that day, which is fair enough. I feel the school should have asked at least a few basic questions from me before taking my money - I was asked nothing. Beware if you are not already confident on a motorcycle!
Can you ride a bicycle
Bought my gear from yous, staff in shop were amazing, I wasn’t rushed or pressured into a sale they helped me find a good fitting lid etc definitely recommend the metro centre store
I’ve never been too bothered about biking but after failing my car theory 5 times i’ve decided let’s get the CBT and a bike that i know will get used more and teach me alot more on the road keep up the good work guys

this is a great demo of a CBT info Vid, sound quality almost destroyed by the wind factor,
none the less good solid advice
iam going for my cbt next week on my birthday and this has helped me alot :)
“You should not use the front brake when”....Wind wind wind wind wind...
So that was informative...
When turning. It should only be used in a straight... Use the rear brake if needed when turning
🌬️🌬️🌬️🌬️💨💨💨💨
Interesting how different riding techniques are taught in different countries.
Took a course at Champion Riding school (California) that changed the way that I think about and use the front brake.
The front brake is essential for overall braking and braking in a turn. Trail braking, or the gradual increase in front brake pressure until one is comfortable with corner entry speed, and can also see the exit of the corner. Why is it essential; It decreases radius of the turn (running wide) and increases the contact patch of the front wheel thereby increasing over grip and control of the bike. As long as it is loaded properly (“don’t surprise the brake”, or “wait for the weight” etc) then it can and should be used in all riding situations especially cornering. Think moto GP.
Old training: Rolling on the throttle throughout corning - is an long outdated technique that I used for a number of years. Until I took a course and was willing to challenge what I thought I knew about riding. What I think I know should always be up for revision especially in a dynamic environment such riding a motorcycle.
"What car u driving?"
"Oh m3"
"What golf"

How did you get on? Are you riding now?
Throttle. Wheeling. Front brake. Stoppies. Rear brake skids. Easy.

Already noted! Thank you for the feedback

Great video, but to understand what she says on the radio com is quite difficult, I don’t know if I would be able to understand 100% her indications during a CBT.
Did my CBT on Friday did 3 hours n was told to come back on Thursday lol the instructor was a prick to be fair more interested in rushing then walked off for 20 mins no were to found then had a conversation with a random guy on a motorcycle n then gets in a huff with me n says I lacked confidence 😅 I rode my bike 45 mins in heavy traffic when I bought it plus I grew up racing moto cross bikes n speedway bikes 😅 all because he was more interested in going the pub for his dinner so when I left i called him a f d head one thing im not is stupid n i don’t like being talked to like im daft when i probably know more than him about corners n gear shift im not the one who fell off his bike n mangled his hand in accident lol im 35 been riding since I was 2 n only ever fell off a bike once due to some idiot coming at me hopefully will get my CBT paper on Thursday wish me luck ❤

The stopping sound annoys me. 😟 Otherwise, great vid!
did you have to go over a theory test? asking questions about signs, roundabouts and what each line on the road mean?
did you find out the answer to that? i have my cbt test today
Yes I would take a look at your signs and road markings. I did get asked about them but it was more of a discussion than test with a video explaining stuff too. Your trainer might be different and try and test you, good luck with the test mate!

I'm considering doing my CBT. Have had a full car licence for years, but I'd rather start out on a smaller bike (I've ridden before but only in fields). Think I'd kill myself if I went for a 600 from the off.
A very sensible attitude - there is a lot to adjust to from a car
Recently did a CBT - had a full car driving licence, partly did it for the moped entitlement and as an experience (though truthfully I dislike car driving and would much prefer motorbikes!)
@@fetchstixRHD how was your experience?
@@antonyevans9772: It was surprisingly challenging, but fun overall! I did my one on a twist and go (although I have a manual car licence, as I hadn't ridden a motorbike before and I think I would have been overloaded trying to learn gears at the same time!)
I was the only one out of the people who were doing their CBT that day who hadn't had previous experience, and it kind of showed cause I had to keep doing some of the exercises (the slow speed ones I ended up putting my foot down way too much, and I fell off the bike when I tried to emergency stop!)
In the end though, I progressed to the on road part and was alone with a really chill instructor, built up my confidence quite a bit and had a lot of fun! Now I'm looking to see if I can get a moped to ride about on 😁
@@fetchstixRHD brilliant mate, nice one!
Don't use the front brake when turning? That doesn't sound right. I have been riding for 7yrs and always brake gently on the front brake on the approach to a turn. Can you clear this up please as it will confuse a lot of people?
As a beginner they teach you not to as inexperienced riders might just grab a handful and lock up the front while leaned over. Trail braking etc is a more advanced skill.
