@@fletchie78 i think that is an easier and cheaper guitar to start off with for begginers, but certainly much harder to master than any other guitar, and it is an insult to call it just a starter guitar
@@fletchie78 I don't think it's insulting. The reality is that the electric guitar is more popular, and there's no better way to learn the guitar than starting off with a classical. Why? Because they're far less forgiving. Any mistake is obvious, so it forces perfection. You can screw up on an electric and it won't be as obvious, because of the effects and amplification. So if your plan is to play electric, it really is a great starter guitar. Of course, it's also a beautiful instrument to plan in its own right. I saw Pink Floyd perform The Wall in 1980, it was david who played it...on the top of the wall! He changed how he played it from the way he first recorded it because he throws in an Eminor towards the end which makes more sense and once I heard it I can't play it any other way.
Live, yes, but Dave said in the studio they got some classical guitarist in (can’t just recall his name - didn’t recognise it at the time), and I’m sure he was relaying this in the interview because someone (maybe Roger!) claimed Roger had played it and Dave just couldn’t stop laughing at the thought of it (they weren’t on the best of terms at the time!), and he even went onto say that he even had to overdub most of Roger’s bass, but that could’ve just been sour grapes. I’m sure if Dave had played it in the studio he wouldn’t have said otherwise - it’s just such a simple but beautiful piece. It’s actually what first sparked my interest in playing classical guitar. Where and in what manner did he throw in the Em?
And here's me. A complete beginner, learning my first song NIRVANA - come as you are. Will dabble in some classical tunes very soon. Being 21 already, and almost the start of my professional life. I really want more time to learn this beautiful instrument.

Hi Paul, it was indeed in the basement. 😔 I took it to the lutier in Amsterdam, La guitarra buena, and the professor took care of it. I bought it back in 1990 or so, a Alhambra classical guitar. Played it for several years, started out on Stratocasters afterwards and hardly played it anymore. I ordered a Cordoba C5 recently, and concentrate more on classical playing now. Thanks for the inspiration, and your generosity in sharing your knowledge and ideas! 👍

Can't beat the sound of the classical guitar I play almost all styles on them! They communicate emotion and feeling more than any other I have heard. It's a bit sad to think that your classical needs to be dusted off or is in the attic - everyone should have a nylon ready to play come on guys! The first guitar heros were spanish players! Great lesson though : - I love your video concepts and lesson ideas keep em coming. Hi from Sydney Australia
Hi Gav 2020 Corona time. As I’m in Oz just up the coast from you. Could you please recommend a classical guitar in the $200 - $500 range. I’m an Aussie rock enthusiast and play a Strat but have always loved classical music and guitar. Maybe from Manny’s? So I can order online. Cheers and happy bunkering
The reason why its considered a beginner guitar, is because the nylon string a much more forgiving on the finger tips. I remember when I had my first lesson with steel guitar; it was absolute torture 😫 but I loved it!!! Now that I've experienced nylon I've completely changed my guitar style.
For shape of my heart, if I may point out, Dominic has said that a lot of people play the song using pinch harmonics, but he didn't do that on the original, and still doesn't while playing live. He plays the bass note sightly later, so as to create a 'leading' approach to it.
Recuerdos de la Alhambra of Francisco Tarrega, a beautiflul classical piece, that involves the technique of tremolo. Great video!!!! thanks for your ideas.
Mediterranean Sundance is one of harder tunes I ever tried to play, you play it so nice and ridiculously easy you could smoke a pipe while. You are amazing.
I'm very impressed that you're able to play that Paco De Lucía song !! Anybody who likes guitars should check out the *"Friday Night In San Francisco"* album with *Al DiMeola, John McLaughlin and Paco de Lucía* . It has a recording of this song as well, but really the entire album is an absolute masterpiece. I've never been tired to listen to it over and over again for about 20 years now.
Paul is a great guitarist, of course. He needs to revisit the meaning of “classical guitar” though. Just because a guitar has nylon strings on it, it does not mean that it is a classical guitar. Also, just because one plays a fingerstyle song on a guitar fitted with nylon strings, it does not mean that is a classical guitar piece. The only true “classical guitar piece” in this video is Bach’s Bourree, and he placed that at No2? If played correctly, that piece would be harder than every song in this video. And then there is a ukulele piece? OK, that one hurt. Nothing against the instrument, but strumming on a ukulele does not mean you are playing a “classical guitar piece.” I saw Paul’s disclaimer about the video, and yet he still kept the title and the thumbnail. In all fairness, this video should be titled “The Top Ten Fingerstyle Easy Pieces” instead. That would be more accurate. I think Paul is a great guitarist , of course. I also think this video has nothing to do with classical guitar and classical music in general. Great channel! Cheers.
@@PaulDavids I meant no disrespect in my post. The title of your video, as well as the thumbnail, are simply misleading or at least inaccurate. Except for the Bourée, none of the pieces in your video were written for the Classical Guitar specifically. The Bourée itself was originally written for the Baroque Lute and only later transcribed for the Classical Guitar. That piece can be called a Classical Guitar piece actually, because it is part of Classical Guitar repertoire. Anyhow ... not all nylon-string guitars are Classical Guitars and not all fingerstyle pieces are Classical Guitar pieces. And oh, the Classical Guitar is not “a starting guitar”. It is true that many start on a classical to avoid fingertip discomfort, but some start on an electric for similar reasons ... that doesn’t make the Electric Guitar a starter instrument. It kind of belittles the instrument when you put it that way. Perhaps you should try and play a couple of Bach fugues on the Classical Guitar and discover that it is actually not a starter instrument 😎 And the ukulele piece ... I had to laugh at that. I love the ukulele and I play the ukulele, but strumming some chords on a uke does not qualify that music as Classical Guitar music, just because the instrument is fitted with four nylon strings. I do enjoy watching your channel. I just think this video is a miss, unless you change the title and the thumbnail. Personal opinion. All the best to you and yours.
How long have you been playing classical? We are the only group of guitar is to get that damn anal about the subject. Lol. It is that same anal characteristic we exhibit so often and for which we are so famous that compels me to correct you. Owed to joy is also a classical piece. It may not have been written for the instrument originally but, then again, neither was the Bach piece so, it counts. Anyway, I actually like the video. It’s nice to see my favorite version of the instrument showcased this way by a player of pop music. It’s nice to use my guitar for things other than Barrios, Tarrega, Brouwer and Rodrigo sometimes. Then again, I grew up with Spanish language music. This instrument features very heavily in all it’s nylon strung forms in those styles of music.
This selection actually inspired me to glue the head back onto my classical and put some strings on it again. 18 years ago some silly octopus knocked it over and the head snapped clean off just above the nut. I have always been way too scared to try and fix it... in case it didn't work and maybe made it worse. but now its been 18 years and listening to this I thought to myself... "myself, fukkit" so I did... and it worked just perfectly. Baie dankie Paul, love your channel
These are far from being top 10 I was expecting Asturias, La Catedral, Recuerdos de la Alhambra, El Colibri, Para Natalia, Canarios, maybe even Romance as a more beginner tune. THOSE are classical guitar pieces, look any title up and it'll give you a good idea how this instrument is supposed to be played.
I recently learned how to play Mood for a Day by Yes (Steve Howe mainly). Far from mastering, but learning something so different is an amazing breath of fresh air .
Very happy to see Is There Anybody Out There? on this list! Often overlooked but is a fantastic and relatively easy song that uses a number of classical techniques. One of my go-tos
If you can learn a song in less than five minutes, chances are it has nothing to do with classical guitar. If it's all chromatic, that should underline something as well. Nice little intro, nevertheless, I play it regularly as a party favour. Next!
There is an actual form of the guitar that is called a classical guitar. You can play whatever the hell kind of music you want on it but the instrument itself is a classical guitar. This distinguishes it, for instance, from a flamenco guitar. Different construction. Different woods. Slightly different sound. There are even guitars that are made in such a way that they can serve for both styles of music. But, they’re absolutely, positively, unequivocably and the refutably is such a thing as a classical guitar. Because it is one of the great instruments, my preferred, as a matter of fact with 30 years under my fingers on it, it is actually capable of lending it’s beautiful voice to many different genres of music whether classical or otherwise. My handmade concert model in Engleman spruce in Indian Rosewood with its Ebony fretboard and it’s ivory nut and saddle sounds quite beautiful when I play Despacito on it. I will even go so far as to say that it suffers no adverse effects from the experience. Julia Florida still sounds great when I play it on it right on the heels of Despacito. It even weathers my own rendition of ain’t no sunshine when she’s gone complete with my singing without so much as a whimper.
I’ve been really frustrated by the comments. I think the thing people don’t understand is that Classical guitar (the style of playing, techniques, the specific guitars and the music itself) is something you have to study, putting years of your life into it. Playing these songs are fun and what not but the blood sweat and tears put into playing something like Brouwer or lobbos or Albeniz is something that cannot be compared. It’s so taxing yet so rewarding and using the term classical when it’s finger style (on an acoustic guitar ) defaces it and makes it seem like we could do it in a few days maybe a week. More like a hobby (speaking as a serious classical guitarist)
It’s so interesting to finally see somebody hold the classical guitar in their lap like it’s a normal steel string. I used to use a foot stool for a more proper playing position but due to a herniated disc in my back, I can’t sit with my hips uneven like that.
When playing classical guitar there should be a very clear sound. Not that clicking sound you leave behind by sliding up and down the fret. A friendly hint from a classical.player.

Jeux Interdits/Romance Anonimo. Basically the Smoke on the Water of the Classics, but can be played in many ways. Really nice to practice your dynamic playing. Love it.
Fun fact (?) Although you can play it with a guitar perfectly fine, the original was played with a ronroco, a pretty unique 10 sting instrument similar to a charango that Gustavo Santaolalla (the composer) really likes to use.

OMG your guitar is awesome.
You can hear Jimmy Page play Bouree during the live version of Heartbreaker on the album 'How the west was won'
most of what Jimmy page plays is ripped off from someone else
John Williams jr not really tho lol
Love the balance of tone you play with in the Beethoven. The harmony IS as important as the melody. Wonderful playing!!
The reason why its considered a beginner guitar, is because the nylon string a much more forgiving on the finger tips. I remember when I had my first lesson with steel guitar; it was absolute torture 😫 but I loved it!!! Now that I've experienced nylon I've completely changed my guitar style.
Now Messi plays guitar
David Felipe León lol 😂
David Felipe León kkkk
Duuuuude!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This made me chuckle
Lol

Amazing rang of music. it especially means a lot that you'd finish with a Ben Howard song! Great video as always
Thanks. This is my list to learn now. Been playing guitar for two years but just picked up my first classical guitar.
For shape of my heart, if I may point out, Dominic has said that a lot of people play the song using pinch harmonics, but he didn't do that on the original, and still doesn't while playing live. He plays the bass note sightly later, so as to create a 'leading' approach to it.
Is it just me, or this guy's voice actually so pleasing/seductive
I agree, gotta be the accent
Recuerdos de la Alhambra of Francisco Tarrega, a beautiflul classical piece, that involves the technique of tremolo.
Great video!!!! thanks for your ideas.
Didyer Barrera Estacio Yeah and it only takes a lifetime to practise! /s
i don't think so!!!!, however, the piece, of Agustín Barrios called El Último Tremolo it's other beautiful piece, and probably a little bit easy.
i don't think so!!!!, however, the piece, of Agustín Barrios called El Último Tremolo it's other beautiful piece, and probably a little bit easy.
Didyer Barrera Estacio He is one of the best.
I played a lot of his pieces when i was in music school
It's only grade 5, so it's not that hard. Sure took me a while, though.
4:54 Count on Me by Bruno Mars has the same progression and rhythm!
Woah
Mediterranean Sundance is one of harder tunes I ever tried to play, you play it so nice and ridiculously easy you could smoke a pipe while. You are amazing.
Dear sir, you inspired me to learn playing guitar again. I used to, but not anymore, still keep my guitar haha.
It's Al's song. Just sayin'. Paco and John make a great trio but Al Di Meola wrote the song. It's on his 2nd album Elegant Gypsy.
Nothing against the instrument, but strumming on a ukulele does not mean you are playing a “classical guitar piece.”
I saw Paul’s disclaimer about the video, and yet he still kept the title and the thumbnail.
In all fairness, this video should be titled “The Top Ten Fingerstyle Easy Pieces” instead. That would be more accurate.
I think Paul is a great guitarist , of course. I also think this video has nothing to do with classical guitar and classical music in general.
Great channel!
Cheers.
Where I come from the guitar I am playing is called 'classical guitar'. That's all. I never said classical pieces or anything. Cheers!
@@PaulDavids Well they should just call it a nylon string guitar, because that's not a classical guitar precisely. Where you come from?🤔
lol someones butthurt
Perhaps you should try and play a couple of Bach fugues on the Classical Guitar and discover that it is actually not a starter instrument 😎
And the ukulele piece ...
Everyone at 0:35: Shape of heart
Me an intellectual: Lucid Dreams
Mom!? Where's the UNO reverse card?
*degenerate
Lmao
This selection actually inspired me to glue the head back onto my classical and put some strings on it again. 18 years ago some silly octopus knocked it over and the head snapped clean off just above the nut. I have always been way too scared to try and fix it... in case it didn't work and maybe made it worse. but now its been 18 years and listening to this I thought to myself... "myself, fukkit" so I did... and it worked just perfectly. Baie dankie Paul, love your channel

Can't you see he's the man, let me hear you applaud
he is more than a man he's a shiny golden god.
brain : let's go, this piece of cake was easier than yesterday
finger : how the hech i play that??!!

These are far from being top 10
I was expecting Asturias, La Catedral, Recuerdos de la Alhambra, El Colibri, Para Natalia, Canarios, maybe even Romance as a more beginner tune.
THOSE are classical guitar pieces, look any title up and it'll give you a good idea how this instrument is supposed to be played.
Yes indeed.
"supposed to be used" lost me there
@@athmaid he lost me at Asturias... very hard, but very overplayed
face palm
Wait what. Asturias and La Catedral are for beginners? Really
I've always wanted to learn something about gypsy jazz, is it really that hard? Aweasome videos! Greetings from México!
Yeah it's pretty hard. Not for the undisciplined or faint hearted.
can u list the title of the song that u play? 😅
o kadar haklı bir yorum ki yemin ediyorum
I just don't see how "Classical Gas" isn't on this list. It's a necessary.
Yeah there are like a 100 others that could be on this list, Tarrega, Villa Lobos, Granados, Albeniz, etc
Horizons, Mood for a Day, The Sage, Classical Gas, Lagrima, Adelita, Bouree, Black Bird, Clowns' Song,, valz Venozulano #2.
thank you guys for the reference!
But is it Classic or just good finger style pop?
What about that Uke song, or the Bill Withers tune?
Thanks Paul, I watched this a year ago for ideas and now I can finally play the entire Bourree.
His guitars are so beautiful ! Damn
What about Raining Blood?
Aidan Lyons that song is for ukelele
If you can learn a song in less than five minutes, chances are it has nothing to do with classical guitar. If it's all chromatic, that should underline something as well.
Nice little intro, nevertheless, I play it regularly as a party favour. Next!
If its not classical music or classically played, its definitely not classical guitar even if it has nylon strings
Yes it is!
@@NorthLoftier no it's not, sorry haha. The construction of this guitar is not that of a classical guitar.
@@Hun_Uinaq I love your reply!
Mediterranean Sundance was awesome!
stea maccF
What a striking classical guitar. Beautiful.
It’s so interesting to finally see somebody hold the classical guitar in their lap like it’s a normal steel string. I used to use a foot stool for a more proper playing position but due to a herniated disc in my back, I can’t sit with my hips uneven like that.
There are other options that keep your feet flat. Search for them. Don't give up your art!
Can you make tutorials on how to play these songs?
Shape of my heart sounds like lucid dreams☺✨
Uchiha Punkeñg lucid dreams sounds like shape of my heart*
When playing classical guitar there should be a very clear sound. Not that clicking sound you leave behind by sliding up and down the fret. A friendly hint from a classical.player.
but... how do I prevent it?
@@leonss2356 you lift your left hand fingers a millimeter of the frets and after swapping position place them down again
nails help too.
Angelika Bertrand i am a beginner, but what I First noticed was how he holds the guitar 😶
Is is possible for anyone to play a ukulele and not smile THAT smile, lol. Purely a joyous instrument 😄
Just learned Ain't no sunshine because of this.
Quite easy for me by now and then joinked some of your embellishments. Great fun.

Thanks for the video man, exactly what I was looking for after not playing guitar for over 10 years. I will get back to it now and some of these will be my first I’ll practice
Amazing production, exceptional fingerstyle talent, and The Cinematic visuals and bokeh just give me good vibes. Love the vid! Keep it up
Paul, lovely playing as usual! I always wonder, though, where did you get that nice jacket? :-)
there was like maybe three actual classical pieces😭
Lucid Dreams by juice WRLD is just copy of that first song then lol
Yeah, they sampled it. That's actually pretty common in the music industry! :)
Nas did a track sampling it too
Charlie Hvit He had to pay 85% of the royalties tho
It’s a joy to hear you play.
Jeux Interdits/Romance Anonimo.
Basically the Smoke on the Water of the Classics, but can be played in many ways. Really nice to practice your dynamic playing. Love it.
Ben Howard is the fav artist xD
The 1st songs intro is so much similar to Lucid dream by Juice WRLD
Yea it's the same They sampled it. Smart move since it's beautiful

Top 1 bonus, "the last of us main theme"
Fun fact (?) Although you can play it with a guitar perfectly fine, the original was played with a ronroco, a pretty unique 10 sting instrument similar to a charango that Gustavo Santaolalla (the composer) really likes to use.
It felt good to already know song 3 on this list. Great list
You sound really good without using the nails in your right hand finger. I'm an acoustic and electric guitarist and liked playing classical guitar but with acoustic guitar right hand. Acoustic guitarist you know what I mean :)
First one sounds like Lucid Dreams
Hi Chrisss pretty sure its the one used for lucid dreams since in the song they used a loop
It's actually by Sting
Lucid Dreams reinterpreted the Sting sample for the song
