    Awesome video! Now get ready to cut the tunnel open and fix the clutch tube that’s going to break loose from the stage 1 pressure plate! Or at least be on the look out for it

    • @VWJawbreaker
      @VWJawbreaker  4 года назад

      Joshua Honel the stage 1 isn’t really that much stiffer. I already have a new clutch cable installed so that should be good.
      Thanks for the comment Joshua.

    • @joshuahonel7321
      @joshuahonel7321 4 года назад +2

      VWJawbreaker that’s what I thought. I was running the exact same setup. Exact. Then all the sudden gears were hard to find, and I kept having to tighten the wing nut, because the middle weld on the tube broke free in the tunnel. Talking with the Bergs, it’s common for stock pressure plates to break them, and even more coming for stage 1 and up to do this. What you can do is put your phone in the tunnel at the shift coupler on record, then operate the clutch. There should be no movement in the tube. So I cut open the tunnel to fix the middle and front weld.
      Of course, you may be lucky! Just saying, I’ve had Kennedy stage 1 break loose 3 clutch tubes. So be on the look out.

      @@joshuahonel7321 Everybody's clutch tube welds will break eventually, even on a stock setup.... seems to be rather common on these cars get up to about 50 years old. Easy fix, and I've fixed lots of em! Usually they break at the rear first, and if not addressed then the next weld breaks in the center... that's the annoying one! 😁😁😁😁

      Jonathan L that’s the point here on this channel, we all learn together. I’ve shared my highs and lows, I don’t hide anything. From what I’ve read, ratio rockers above 1.25 need the larger diameter push rod tubes to clear the push rods. It’s definitely the case with my 1.4:1 rockers. Thanks for your comment!

They would look great then I would heat up and roll up under spring pressure. I didn't have the money for the CB tubes. I have a set from SCAT that are working great and 1500 miles w/o a leak or shifting seal. I like the look of these over the stock. Have a great day and be well! Jim

    Back in my small block Chevy days 😂. Ratio rockers gained me un-calculated amounts of RPM’s !!! And power!! These engines are small are you getting the horsepower increase?? .. I am beginning to build my 2.0L plus engine

    • @VWJawbreaker
      @VWJawbreaker  5 месяцев назад +1

      All though your statement is true, it’s not quite the same with VW engines.
      The cam you chose will tell you what rockers you can run. The cam in running is designed for 1.4 or 1.5 rockers as the ramp on the cam is easier but the ratio rockers helps with the lift.
      As you build your engine, keep in mind it’s the total engine combo and not just a bug cam in an engine.

I will have to keep those in mind if I have issues with mine again. I will be interested how the empi stage 1 plate goes for you I have only used KEP stage 1 plates and have been happy. I have heard the empi stuff is getting g better. Good video I will keep watching. Only problem is I feel like a slacker watching your videos, because you get so much done. Yeah, live and learn , if you're not learning you're basically dead. Yeah cams are performance cams there's always a compromise, if you go with an old school grind like a w130 you're putting more stress on the pushrods running a 1/1.25 rocker 🤷‍♂️ but pushrods lineup better 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️ I myself feel lineup is a little better than less stress on pushrods, Is misaligned pushrods less stressful 🤔 As far as clutch with springs, it's a measured cushion and gives more time for pressure plate to obtain it's clamping force and is far better for the transmission. I ran a stout pressure plate with clutch with springs in the 70s and was my daily commuter racking up +/- 130miles a day. Did that for 5 years but the last few months clutch was chattering unless I let clutch out rapidly not dumping but not at a slow pace. I suspect that 2pc clutch and spring assembly was on its way out . I sold car running decent just needing some TLC for $100 , I'm a retard 🙄 Gave kid all my extra parts and build sheet. Don't know hp but it had an old style grind in it something like a w140 , you could have a picnic on the lobes and my tolerances were in the danger zone. I also had a pontiac ram air 4spd 3.90 posi and I was able to beat all the cars I could beat with my firebird. I believe that bug would've given my bird a run for the money. I did rip flywheel off crankshaft twice and blow transaxle once all in 2 weeks, so kinda went through what you're going through but last century 😆 Hey you don't know until you try !

      @@VWJawbreaker Yeah, I'm running out of days and just want to spend retirement doing something I enjoy. I've built many an engine and to this day nothing wakes up with sooo little modifications as a bug. You take a 3800 lbs car with 350 hp that runs pretty good and double its power and you end up with satisfied, happy. Then you take a 1600lbs Punch buggy that I literally got punted off the road trying to keep up with traffic while flat footing it and do some work to engine and have it run all the way around to zero stop pin on the speedo, now that is awesome. I mentioned punch buggy, that's what they were called back in the day cause fenders were used as curb feelers and all the movies used to use as sacrificial lambs in car chases in . Watch Bullitt, Watch any car chases, a bug is getting squished 😆

I know you're a car guy so stage 4 in car is really good in cancer not so much. So just to bring back better times I'm going to get a bug and do some magic to it and see her brighten up when presented. She'll feel like a kid again until her next hospital visit. Like I said she still punches me every time she sees a Punch Buggy so she'll take her dog and go for a ride and maybe let me drive. LOL, our 1st date we took my firebird and had the cops chasing me. Back then you took off and took a few corners and if the cop was still behind you, then you pulled over and when the cop asks why you took off I'd say yeah was just asking myself the same question. just found Jawbreaker ...great series..but I do have a question for you..the type 3 tinware on the under side of the upright shroud type 1 cooling system,as our temps would be comparable to your neck of the woods (Florida) and here in Queensland central coast yada yada, as I imagine you run an oil temp guage as I do to keep an eye on the internals..does the type 3 tin shroud work ?..I just run the deflector plates type 1 and in summer driving highway and city the ol 1600 sits at a steady 60 degrees c or 130 kapaxians or what ever you call it there ...doghouse cooler and all tin ware nicely sealed over the cyls and heads ..I might give the 3 tinware a crack over here for shits and giggles..what do you reckon?

      Neale Frazer I’m glad you found the channel and thank you for taking the time to comment.
      As for the type 3 cylinder tins or cool tins as they are sold, I didn’t notice any real difference between those and the stock type 1 cylinder deflectors.... then again it’s not like I went super scientific about it, just measured temps with a laser temp gauge and an oil temp gauge.
