@@seanr.2942 Early Dillinger is so cool. I understand they got older and didn't feel like playing this style forever. But this stuff changed my mind in a lot of ways. I played some of Irony is a Dead Scene for my music teacher, and he literally told me "This is not music." lmao
My bro in law today, but simple friend back in 2002, played this very song one day and I went from Metallica and Sound Garden type rock to hardcore overnight. Very fond memories of Friday and Saturday nights of all night Halo with a few friends, fresh out high school with no college in the future, drinking and discovering weed, then the next day bass fishing in hot Florida summer with a hangover and listening to Dillenger while driving to the next spot.
Dillinger Escape Plan is one of the most original acts out there. Not to mention that they are one of my favorite bands. Ire Works helped me through some rough moments in my life
iirc this was a tsunami relief thing, and there'd be like 100 concerts across the nation in stores like these to raise money for banda aceh (thats what my brother told me at least) all ages & free, too, i think (there were prob donation boxes around the area), so when my family went to times square to see the pontani sisters we ended up staying a bit longer and thats how 2 year old me got to see this firsthand account of hell on earth live, and i loved it
it's jazz with distortion. jazz is one of the most complex and respected forms of music on the planet. these are jazz musicians that have lots of energy. it's just a shame that you don't have the musical dexterity to decipher the generally complex basis of this form of music. this music is non-repetitive. Popular bands on the radio just take a formula and fill in the blanks. These guys are innovative. it's more musical than most things the world listens to.
I miss Brian Benoit, he was a great fit for Dillinger. Also there's no way anyone could convince me that Greg didn't injure someone when he ran into the crowd like that.
I've thought the same thing about running over the crowd. Maybe he ran so fast that his momentum carried him forward and he barely had to touch anyone, but still....
Seriously? I saw them supporting Mastodon in London earlier this year and they were brilliant. Incredible energy, stage presence and musicality. They were awesome. What did you think was so bad about them?
If you don't like the band, i insist you at least look up vids of the drummer, Chris Pennie. He is a force to be reckoned with on a 4 piece drumset. You can at least then appreciate his musicianship and the incredible talent that this guy has.
I saw these guys last night. Greg jumped into the crowd feet first and kicked my earm tearing the plug straight out and slicing my earlobe! I thanked him afterwards, he apologized. Poor guy ended up breaking his finger:(
nah dude, they just have something special that a lot of mainstream bands don't have. Something you can't put a finger on, but makes you smile every time you listen to it. If that's not having true feelings for a type of music, I don't want 'em. Just let it go, some people respond differently to different music, if you don't like it, it's totally cool. Just don't be so mean spirited toward people who do, and question their devotion to the spirit of music just cause you don't like it.
Yeah ya kinda gotta know the song to groove along to DEP VIA a camcorder right next to the band @ full volume. And even then, ya gotta be some fuckin musically adept to just.. groove along. These guys are great. Cant wait to hear the new line-up in Sept.
I wish they would re-release the older albums w/ greg on vocals. it would be interesting. I don't think he could do Irony is a Dead Scene though, nobody can touch Patton.
dude, yeah, same with me. No one puts on a show as raw and energetic as DEP. No one is exciting to watch anymore. With DEP, you never know what to expect when you watch them live.
haha dude shanked that intro so badly! he smiled about it so it was kinda funny. i agree with KBles. they have such a good time, it comes off to the croud regardless if they nail every riff or not.
These guys are so tight, even when playing the most fucked up riff's. Saying that i would rather see a band live that are entertaining, throwing themselfs around and having fun , than a band just standing there playing the songs just like the record, thats what the record is for.
They are both pioneers in Metal and Music in general and 9 out of 10 metal bands in the last 10 years have ripped something of one of these bands. They may not be equally "good" but they are equally influential.
this video is fucking immense! they are an extremely talented band, and maybe i could play some of their stuff but fuck nos how they think to write shit like this! can't wait to see them on the 22nd.
Its all a matter of taste man. However, the musicians in this band are actually pretty fantastic. That takes into account their technical ability of playing the instrument but also the skill it takes to stay on time with the chaotic time signatures they use.
well actually... if you freeze frame it and walk the track frame by frame you actually see him shoop da whoop into the crowd destroying it utterly... then in a fit of rage and guilt combined he revitalizes every last atom in the room back to its origional state! but it was pretty amazing

The Mathcore Chad vs the Virgin Megastore

it's 2019. This concert is still one of the top most exciting things that happened in the whole history of heavy music
gotta disagree on that one, the denny's grand slam takes the cake for heavy bands playing in obscure venues

I'm convinced Ben blows the intro on purpose because all their live recordings have it sounding similarly mangled.
best 20 second opening to any live show ever lmfao!

it's great how the singer runs out on their heads

i love the "classical" sign in the background right above the soundboard
we posted the entire set, look through our archvies
how did they get a gig in Virgin Mega Store??? I mean this is the kind of crowd that's going to involuntarily tear the place down to shreds.
I liked that store, too. That, and the location on 14th St.

The music itself is enough to change your entire life, and change your view on music. At least it was for me.

Cool to see another angle of this.
This was the very first RUclips video I saw in 2006.
It evokes emotion (and a lot of it). Therefor, it is music.
This perfomance must be released on DVD.
