    Ah the milk tasting! We got our first goat when we went to a dairy farm when I was ten for a horse trail ride and found a lost dairy goat wandering in the forest. When we came back a year later we had a small herd milking. The dairy family proudly gave me a glass of jersey milk; because the cram had separated I asked my mother if they put water in their milk.

    It's so entertaining to see Justin on other people's vlogs. On his own, he's really outgoing and energetic and then on here he's much quieter and sort of sarcastic. I'm amazed lol. And the title made me think you were trying to trade the goats for some kune kune piglets in the future. Have you guys considered the American Guinea Hog? I want to eventually do a herd of AGH/KK mixes for the meat production and how little food they eat since they both forage so well. Another great day on your homestead! - Jacob

    When I first got goats, id heard about all the bad tasting milk complaints against having goats to milk. SOI found a tiny fridge and put it in the barn. I put the goat bucket in the freezer in the house. When I was ready to milk, I would take the bucket out of the freezer in the house and take it to the fridge in the barn. Then id put the grain into the manger and get a goat up, locked in and ready to milk. Then id take the bucket out of the fridge and milk her. When done, id put the bucket of milk back into the fridge. I did this with all 6 goats. Then when finished milking, I would then take the milk buckets back to the house and put the milk into another bucket that had been kept in the freezer. id put it back into the freezer for an hour, then decant it into whatever. I NEVER had but the best tasting and coldest milk one could want.

    I grew up with my grandmother in the rural part of Nigeria. She raised a lot of goats, but never milked them for drinking. We depended on powdered and canned milk from the market. When I came to the United States forty years, I was surprised that farmers actually milk their cows and goats for consumption.

    • @OFFGRIDwithDOUGSTACY
      @OFFGRIDwithDOUGSTACY 7 лет назад +2

      big difference

    • @Brifromscratch
      @Brifromscratch  7 лет назад +1

      To us it really doesn't taste much different when you compare it to store bought cow milk. However, we had some fresh cow milk a couple of weeks ago and the taste was different. It wasn't that the goat's milk didn't taste good. The difference was that the fresh cow milk was extremely creamy and rich. It was like eating dessert. SO delicious. Flavors can vary greatly in goat milk. It depends on a few factors. Type of goat, handling, if there is a buck, freshness etc...

    • @WholesomeRoots
      @WholesomeRoots 7 лет назад

      Joshua Harris Vlogs it really shouldn't taste very different, just different cream levels really. If got milk is handled improperly in milking cooling storage stage it can taste different. and if it's old it can taste more goaty.
