    Not surprising at all, he played as a pro for the 3 previous seasons with the Euroleague powerhouse Real Madrid. He was the youngest Euroleague MVP ever and Euroleague champion. He used to play against pros, not other kids in NCAA.

      He's still exceptional regardless. Plenty of N.B.A. "rookies" have been drafted out of European pro leagues. It doesn't need saying that almost none of them are like Luka.

    Luka is a true basketball phenom. He's like Magic and Bird in one. I realize how bold of a statement this is, but if (and when) an NBA offense thoroughly revolves around him, he will put up numbers that will ultimately elevate him to GOAT status. As for people saying he's "not very athletic"... lol! I love how leaping ability, acrobatics and powerful dunking have become the only measures of athleticism - or even the only things that the masses care about - in basketball.

    • @mskhyramae
      @mskhyramae 5 лет назад +46

      Most don't understand athleticism is not jumping ability alone. Lukas crossover is nasty sauce. Pure cross, no carry over too

      @joe mama too late, I already went there

    • @bello2389

      It's pretty much what athleticism is though. But what separates Luka from the "athletic" players is his intelligence.

    • @WatersAbove77
      @WatersAbove77 5 лет назад +13

      bello 23 I like him though cuz he moves kinda smooth but also has quick bursts of speed like in his step backs. Also he has bird level passing ability and he’s only 19. Although I do think he needs more all around athleticism (like vertical) if he wants to ever become a nba legend. Shouldn’t be hard to do since he’s only 19.

    • @rawjhaw
      @rawjhaw 5 лет назад +8

      @@bello2389 The way the word "athleticism" has been thrown around in these discussions over the years is incomplete and incorrect. When mainstream basketball analysts, coaches and trainers refer to a player's "athleticism" they really mean two things: vertical jumping ability and speed. Of course, there is much more to true athleticism - in the traditional sense of the word - than the speed, height, distance one can propel one's body or an inanimate object. Accuracy. Dexterity. Agility. Stamina. Concentration. Vision. Plenty of other abilities/traits exude "athleticism" beyond physical strength, stature and assertion. Meanwhile, it's early.... maybe the NBA will bring out new and different dimensions to this 19 year old's game. One thing is certain: his talent is undeniable.

    Anyone notice but me that on all of the plays shown (and the ones I have seen while watching the games), that half of the times he drives the basket and scores he never draws a foul. I love watching basketball but the NBA refs would not hesitate to blow a whistle for a "star" or veteran. I HATE that they (the refs) call games like that all of the time. You call it for one player, you should call it on all players.

    Closest thing to Magic Johnson we've seen. 6'7", extraordinary vision, passing, handles, fast break, 3 point, short game, post-ups, floaters, space creating, James Harden step backs, wants the last shot; solid shooting percentages. Only 4 rookies have ever averaged 20-6-4. He's about to be the fifth. 19 years old. Larry Bird was a rookie at 22. Future Hall of Famer.

    A mix of Bodiroga, Manu and Jokic and you get something like "Bird of 2018" .
    These moves look pretty much a "state of art" moves for modern NBA and take years to master. On some of these moves he got open way more than he thought he would. Often he did another fake move when he did not need one. His offensive game is converting better than he thought it would!
    In couple of months he will feel more in control, halve his turnovers and in 1-2y he will get his body strength up a bit. If he gets near average-defender status...
    Carlile is sleeping with a smile on his face.
    Jokic came out of nowhere, but proved that you can build around that type of a player. Luka might be a "guard version" of that "slowish" guy with great vision teammates move around and that can consistently get you a bucket against all none-elite defenders.

    This guy's sick-legit. The second coming of Larry! Modern-day Larry! 2.0! Should be on the floor 40+ minutes playing point foward.

    This is why Vlade Divac needs to be fired in Sacramento. The Kings go into the draft needing a small forward. They have their point guard in Fox. They have their shooting guard in Hield. They had Labissiere at the 4, who put together a few good games and it still only 22 years old and Cauley-Stein in the middle. Nearly every person who did a mock draft had Doncic going to the Kings, second overall. Divac is setting that franchise back. He used the 13th overall, lottery pick on a center, Georgios Papagiannis, just to waive after a season and a half. He also used the 6th overall pick on a center the previous year with Cauley-Stein. Its been bad decision after bad decision for Divac.

    Wow his court vision and shooting skills. He has a slow release in his shooting BUT his superb dribbling skills create enough space for him. I would say jason kidd steve nash 2.0 jason kidd's court vision and crunch time self urgency to take it on to himself to carry the team to win (leadership skill) or even higher or at par he got some moves i havent seen until he did it. And nash ability to score at will. I wouldnt be surprise if he gets to be an MVP. What is good about him is he is still developing surely a franchise player. I believe if Cuban made the go for to get the right pieces they will become champ again with him leading it. I believe he could have done better when Phoenix had all big men than steve nash no disrespect to steve nash i just believe he does better decision making and better flexibility than then HOF MVP S. NASH. Wish Dirk Nowitski takes coaching staff or developmental he has such good self discipline to teach the young Mavs players. Right mindset would really help them plus his champ experience on pressure taking. I hope i get to see Mavs as a strong contender again

    He was taught very well how to score. Whoever taught this kid did a good job he specializes in scoring in odd off balanced shots. Slow players can dominate too.
