Working at a health food store (Meat dept.), the consensus I take away from the majority of Vegans I've encountered is that it is more of an animal treatment/rights issue to them than a dietary health issue. The perplexing thing to me is that in the wild, animal predators are incredibly brutal and merciless to their prey.

When confronted by a vegetarian/vegan about raising and killing my own meat, I ask them if they have ever seen how a carnivore treats it's prey. Then I tell them when they have convinced all the predators to treat their prey "humanely" and to eat more carbs, then they might have a leg to stand on. I have a steer going to the butcher next month. He has had a great life running around with my goats. He gets chin rubs and neck scratches. He loves it. When his day comes, he won't know what hits him.

Even our once a year turkey (carcass) was turned into soup after Thanksgiving. Funny, my Dad was diagnosed with diabetes at 42 and Mom reminded us not to eat sugar all the time. Dr. Berry, you hit the nail on the head. Vegan diet is the diet people gravitate to when trying to be healthier until they find out it makes them ill and then the real diet research happens. That was exactly my story. Now, the low carb veggies are used like a condiment to my high fat Keto-Carnivore diet.

@@GaryHighFruit It is one thing to express your pleasure and success as a vegan, fine. It is another to criticize someone else's experience and tell them to get their head out of a hole. Tacky on either side just makes that person look less credible. The valid point is that many people, over time, find they need meat to feel good again. I myself had people I knew, him and her yoga instructors and her also a massage therapist. She got quite ill until she added back meat. She made point of telling me this as I knew them before as vegans and she was warning me. I am happy you found what works for you. Some day we will discover why some people seem to do well as vegans and others don't. I suspect it has to do with the microbiome. Wishing you well.

I also was vegan for around 2 years, from 2017 to little over 2019. When I was a teen I had anorexia but my relationship with food was at it's worst when I was a vegan 20 y old, to say the least. The sugar cravings were so bad I had started binge eating for the first time in my life. The brain fog so bad I struggled with simple things, so I took a blood test.. Turned out I had b12 and iron deficiencies despite taking a vegan targeted multivitamin that was supposed to be enough according to the bottle. I felt so betrayed by the people that were advertising how taking vitamins would be enough and how you don't need animal products.. It became clear to me that if I want to live I have to eat animal products, which was devastating to me. Genuinely thought about the other option of "un-living" too, that's how brainwashed by veganism I was, I believed animals deserved to exist more than I did. Morally I still don't enjoy it but it's a choice I make to keep living.

i was whole foods plant based before, now im carnivore. less animals die for my carnivore diet. when i was whole foods plant based, i had to eat around 2kg(4.4 pounds) worth of food in a day, and still had to take supplements. how many animals would have to die all for that? lots of animals die and are displaced from their habitats thanks to large scale plant agriculture. lots of agrochemicals would also be used which harm animals and peopIe. they say that a single cow can feed an entire family for a year. but what if a family is vegan? how much food and supplements would they need just to stay barely alive? how many animals would have to die for all of that toxic, nutrient poor vegan food and industrially produced supplements shipped from across continents?
now, i just eat meat. around 1 or 2 pounds in a day. the meat is locally produced in my country. they dont have to be shipped from across continents. the animals i eat give me lots of nutrients. i dont need supplements at all! my health improved so much that now i almost feel superhuman. i feel faster, stronger and smarter than even back when i was in my teens. life also seems happier now for some reason. i cant explain it, but.. i just feel happy and motivated in life!
im no longer naive to think that i can live without taking life. now i just value and celebrate the fact that i can eat meat and survive. i make sure that the life i take is not wasted

I’m so proud of you with your recovery and excellent choices. I was a vegetarian and then vegan for a couple years and developed migraines and terrible joint pain. I kept researching diets with the aim of tackling my migraine problem as I heard about trigger foods. Over time I’ve discovered that nearly every food except meat and eggs and dairy (except for cheese) trigger inflammation and thus pain for me. I’m also recovering from various eating disorders as well and carnivore really helps with that as sugar is such a problem for me triggering my desire to binge and purge and restrict as well. I was vegan for mainly ethical reasons as well and resisted eating animals but when you think about it, most animals eat other animals. Would we deny our cats or dogs, etc of their species appropriate diet because of ethics? No, of course not because to do so would destroy their health, which is unethical. It’s the way things work, it’s natural and we can’t change that.

I find the explanation a bit unfinished. So here is my try:
If you eat carbs only they end up in the blood stream and the cells will take them up until they are at max energy capacity and will then close the gate leaving the excess carbs in the blood stream.
If you eat fats only they end up in the blood stream and the cells will take them up until they are at max energy capacity and will then close the gate leaving the excess fats in the blood stream.
BUT if you only eat fats the insulin level stays low as the body doesn't need it to convert sugar to fat to store it in the fat cells, because you ate no sugar.
The excess fat can just be stored in the fat cells.
If you now live on your cells will use up some of their storage and after a while they need new energy.
As insulin is low your body can instantly use the fat from the fat cells and replenish the cells as they slowly open up their gates depending on how much they still got in store.
BUT if you only eat sugar the insulin skyrockets and the body will use it to convert sugar to fat, and the insulin will veeeery slowly go back down.
Then after a while of living on your cells slowly need new energy and open up their gates BUT insulin is still high so your body tries to get some fat out, but insulin just constantly pushes it back into the fat cells, thus leaving your body in an energy lock, where it is slowly using up the storages in the cells but can't deliver new energy from the fat cells.
As the body has now locked itself out of it's own energy the only thing it can do to get anything into the cells is to make you eat more.
    Thus repeating the cycle.
Now you are constantly hungry and constantly putting more energy in your fat storage making you fatter and fatter.
Some people will get used to this and have faster falling insulin levels but they probably never fall fast enough to allow them to fully run on fat fast enough before they become too hangry again.
I'm probably not 100% right, but this is how i currently understand it.

So, I am trained in anthropology as my foundation. I think where I find the most conflict in these narratives is in our physical hardwiring for seeking out sweetness. As Berry indicates, there was a survival reason for seeking out sweetness. While obviously we have access to too much carbohydrate abundance now, there was a time in our history would these would have been great energy stores in a time when we were incredibly physical. For example, humans have been eating honey and fruit as far back as we have any type of physical evidence. So the fact that we have sweet seeking genes, if you will, tells me that there is something that the body wants from that. It is not just a poison, as Bart suggests. It may be of course poisonous in excess, but that is a different statement. I recognize that it may be some of us simply can't have it now, because we cannot moderate and we are not living a life which requires such a enormous physicality that it is handled through other balancing systems which would have been natural in the past. But I think it's disingenuous to present it as an absolute poison that our bodies don't need and wouldn't seek, because that is contrary to all that evidence. I also observe that in hot climates, using glucose as fuel is a much more prevalent and typically well-managed tendancy. There's a reason why all the sweetest fruit tends to be equatorial, it seems. I don't even myself like very sweet fruits, but when I am in the tropics, having them is not only refreshing but seems to be kind of all that one wants. I rarely would want to eat meat or anyting overly savory. But in that case, I am not really combining fat and carbs, but rather naturally switching from one fuel base to the other. I do think there is something to the notion of climate and the foundation of one's diet. This would obviously have to do with historical availability, but I think also there are probably biological reasons.

I thought Gregor was so spot on about so much... I did vegan, which got me away from the crap I was eating. I did feel better, BUT, something was missing.... the problem was grains, sugar (which I see vegans eat plenty).
As an elder, I was disgusted by the fact that I couldn't see my male danlge when standing at attention... for years. This bothered me, big time.
In late 2021 I got covid. On my back in bed I had time to think, and to watch videos. After seeing Dr. Berg, Tom DeLaur a few others, I came across you talking about carnivore. What?
I decided that it was time to give keto/carnivor a try. It took about a month to ween myself off of carbs, and dealing with digestion issues, but it all faded. The weight came off, and in short order, saw my appendage again.
3 months after starting the diet, I went for hemheroid surgury (had em since my 20's). The doc, while he was there, checked my prostate. In a suprised voice he said, "your prostate is normal." I am an elder, and was told for well over decade, "this is normal for your age."
It then hit me. This diet is about health, not just losing weight. For well over a decade, I had an enlarged prostate, and was having urinary issues. They're all gone now. I pee like I did decades ago.
Interestingly... all my vegan friends are fat, minimally, they have a "layer."
I now wish I had more energy, recovered from workouts, hard work, quicker. Now what?

The blue area in these 2 diagrams (one for fat flow and the other for glucose flow) are outside of the cell (so the blue is the blood stream) and the peach (CYTO) and green (MITO) are inside the cell. The problem with this Randle Cycle diagram is that everything inside a cell (the nucleus, the Mitochondrion, Lysosome, Ribosomes, and a few more thingies) are all "swimming" in a pool of the CYTO. Meaning that the the MITO is actually a thingy that floats in the CYTO along with the nucleus and all the other aforementioned thingies. The change in color to green for the MITO illustrates a Mitochondrion thingy as a different colour but may lead one to think that the MITO sits outside the CYTO but is doesnt. Clear as mud?

it is absolutely mind boggling that so many great countries have lost their way as far as keeping people healthy, or teaching them how to be healthy. All these nations are in thrall to the chemical companies, food companies, big pharma, big agriculture. And big money is bankrolling the medical schools who teach humans to be prescription writing robots.

I pay close attention to my body signals and going vegan for a year messed me up. Never lost any weight, may have even gained some. Felt weak and bruised easily. Before my vegan trial, I did keto for a few months but the detox symptoms were too much for me and I gave in. Wish I would have held out through the detox phase. Back on keto and feel so much better. The fat consumption is so filling. And I eat maybe twice a day. Already losing weight. :)

I, (30yo) have had sore knees since highschool. I have done keto 4 times, and I am 11 days into carnivore. Every time I attain ketosis, my knees stop throbbing and I can walk slowly down the stairs in my house without discomfort. I am also regaining my above average photographic memory, which I thought was lost forever. I think it's the DHA and Lyso-DHA from sockeye salmon and salmon caviar, respectively.
