    Hi Peter,
    As you said, EP-L series doesn’t have a built in electronic viewfinder, but you can buy external electronic viewfinder VF-4, which is really excelent. When I owned EP-L 5 (which was my first Olympus camera), I bought on eBay second hand VF-4 from Japan, which was cheaper half the price than buying a new one in my country, and I must say it improved the camera a lot. This is also the way to make photographing even with EP-L series more pleasant. But in November last year, I upgraded to EM-5 mark III and at the moment I’m absolutely satisfied. Thanks a million for your videos. Thumbs up.

      Yes you are correct. Should have mentioned the VF-4. Forgot that since the newest Pen-cameras do not have the possibility to use the VF-4.

    First of all, thanks a lot for making a video about this topic...very interesting !
    I bought the OMD-E-M10MKII on April 2019 and I am very happy with it but I am already thinking about upgrade to EM5 or EM1 for next year probably for waterproofing, better stabilization, stacking...
    EM5 is more affordable but I consider that it is too close to EM10 and it will lead me to sell my current camera because I will not go back anymore.
    EM1 is more different from my current camera and it will permit to keep my EM10 for street and casual shoots but the budget is much more important.
    I think that the best way is to wait for EM1 MKII price reduction 😉.
    Take care and be safe 😷

      I saw an e’1ii used for 750 € on EBay last week, that is if you don’t mind buying used. I got my em1ii used for €900 last September with less than 1000 clicks. Great camera, the best I ever had, even better than my Canon 5d iii.

    high res shot and handheld high res shot are the features that brought me to olympus.
    its a pity that not so many people know this features and many reviewer never shown this to the internet.
    its like buying a potato chip and making a gold from the images. for products and jewellry photography this features is a life saver.
    when it pair with 12-50 kit lens, this thing can produces some quality images that other brands will needs to spend for 4000 or 5000 dollars.
    i really greatfull that i found olympus. im satisfied with my 2nd hand em5 mk2 + kit lens for 600dollars and it produced amazing quality high res that blown me away.
    my next cam will be the em1 mk3.
    and if they never releasing another body, i will really sad and have to switch into panasonic s5 , probably not g9, just for the sakes of high res mode.

    I have both mark II models of em1 and em5 and frankly in terms of image quality I can hardly see any difference. Em1 has a better grip but I bought a third party grip for the em5 and it handles perfectly now. The Olympus line up is superb and thanks to people like you, Rob Trek and Robin Wong I managed to find my way in the Oly menu’s.

    Many thanks for this helpful video. It helped me spend money...but in this case, that's a good thing. On another note, and I had never thought of this, but I see that the PEN-F is designed for right handers, and those who use their right eyes to focus. If I had purchased it, I would have been sorely disappointed, and it's possible that I would, since there's no camera store in my little town. I bought the EM-1 (used, what I could afford) because I have big hands.
    Thanks again!

    Hi Peter, Thank you for another informative video. I currently own an em-1 mkii and an em-10 mkii. I'm a 75 year old amateur photographer with 2 arthritic knees, and I lost 2 fingers on my right hand in an accident about 10 years ago. So camera weight and ergonomics is very important to me. I switched from being a Canon user to Olympus when the em-1 was first introduced. The first time I picked it up it felt like it was custom made for me. I also tried the em-10 at the same time, but it felt too small even though I have small hands. When I got the em-1 mkii, because of the slightly larger grip, it's not as comfortable for me to hold. I bought the em-10 mkii and it immediately felt very comfortable for me to use and I find myself using it more and more especially with either the 14-42 pancake lenses or the 14-150 lens. I shoot primarily landscape and seascape photos so weather sealing is important to me, especially when doing seascapes. To be perfectly honest if the em-10 was weather sealed I would probably be using that as my primary camera today. I am currently thinking about selling my em-1 mkii and getting the new em-5 mkiii to use as my primary camera because of the size and weight. My question to you is this. Since the lockdown I have not been able to see and hold the new em-5. How similar is it in size and weight to my em-10 mkii and is the weather sealing as good as the em-1 mkii? Also what else would I be giving up. I should also mention that I also have the 12-100 and 7-14 pro lenses. I know these lenses won't be as comfortable to use on the smaller body, but when I use them, it's usually on a tripod only because using a tripod slows "me" down and forces me to think more about what I am doing. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you and stay safe.

      I think the 5s are not much different from the 10s and are also quite a bit smaller than the 1s.
      I like the EM10 mark ii. Some people want more grip like on the EM10 mk iii and iv but I like the smoother black finish and look of the 10 mark ii best. The 10 mk ii is far more cute than the EM1s and not nearly as intrusive in look. I had a couple of friends saying they really liked the retro look of the EM1. The black somehow looks smaller than the chrome but both look great and were great value in my view. I loke using the low resolution video at 640x480 4x3 proportion video with the EM10ii because it takes up so little memory on SD cards. Sometimes I just want a basic record of events.

      469 grams for the EM5 vs the 10 at 390 and the 1 at 574 grams I just read. Mark ii versions.
      EM5 mkiii is plastic and is lighter at 414g.

I don't want to offend, but noticed one small issue for english language listeners : "series" should rhyme with hoodies or honey bees. Adding an extra syllable makes the word "serious" which refers to intensity of concern.

      I would get the E-M5 MKIII and the new 12-45mm f4. That is my favorite combo. Of course it also depends on what the special lucky person likes to photograph. For general photography I think that combo is perfect.

  • @lorenschwiderski

    E-M10 mark II and PEN PL-8 cost less than the current models, yet have a metal body instead of plastic -- a win-win! As for missing features compared to next level up, I would say not being able to have a minimum shutter speed with the auto-ISO setting for street shooting is a negative. The newer 20MP sensor may be slightly better in the upper grades. Overall, the base models certainly work well. In regard to lenses, the best deal in Olympus line appears to be the 45mm, when on sale. The 40-150 at $99 is a bargain, no doubt. I do like some of the Panasonic lenses as well. Their 25mm f1.7 is only $148 or less. This being said, the 30mm macro - made in Japan at $298 might have been an even better buy for me -- considering it now. I think the 12-32mm pancake bests the Olympus and the Panny 14mm is the deal at $198 - made in Japan. -Loren lorenschwiderski.smugmug.com/

    For travel I am really happy with my EM5ii and my TG-6. Between the 2 of them I can handle pretty well every situation, including inclement weather, that I run across in my travels except perhaps dimly lit conditions where a tripod is not allowed (museums, galleries). Even that will be fine once I can afford a couple of more fast primes. Olympus makes great cameras and lenses for travel - weather proofed and with fantastic stabilization !!! Maybe too good in that I don't see a need to upgrade my camera body at all ! Love the retro styling too :-)

  • @mateuszwnuk9136

    The only thing that would make me upgrade to E-M10 IV is if they introduce the PDAF - if not, I'll wait for the E-M5 to get cheaper (for now it's more expensive than E-M1 II in Poland and I'd rather have something smaller for my use) but I'd still prefer the size of 10 as the weather sealing was never an issue. Or a new PEN-F with PDAF. I'm perfectly happy with E-PL7 but I would rather have the second dial (that's what I miss the most) and the EVF built-in - unfortunately the series killed the use of VF-4 in E-PL9 and 10.

    I have an olympus stylus1 and would love to upgrade to either an OM5ii or OM1iii. But I was stunned to learn of the cost for each of these, especially in light of the cost of other options. I found out today I could get either a Sony a7iii or a Fugi xt4 for $2,100. When I looked up the cost of a OM1iii it was $2,400!
    I thought perhaps the OM5iii would be an option and it was listed at $1,4000. But that was with a 12-45 f4 lense. To get this camera with a 12-40 f2.8 it would cost $2,000. Almost the same as the xt4 or the a7iii.
    Fugi makes wonderful cameras and I love my stylus1. But I'm wondering if this over pricing is why they are struggling wit market share. It's just hard to pay $2,400 for an OM1 when I can get an xt4 for $300 less.

    Hi Peter, thanks for the great video! I have a question. Which of the two cameras would you choose if you were entering the Olympus world (I have been working with Lumix for 5 years), and needed good video AF, great performance for Birding and good performance for Macro? Option A - Olympus em-1 ii for 950 Euros (new). Option B - Olympus em-1 iii for 1799 Euros. Do you believe that version ii will continue to receive FW updates, or is it already a product at the end of the line? And the em-1 iii, is it worth the extra 850 Euros? Thank you! Your opinion as someone who knows both cameras is important to me.

    • @ForsgardPeter
      @ForsgardPeter  4 года назад

      With those prices I would go with the E-M1 MKII. Of course if money is not that big of an issue I would get the E-M1 MKIII. Olympus has said that E-M1 MKII will be in the line up so that there is an inexpensive version in the E-M1 -line-up. To be honest I have no idea if there is going to be a FW updates to E-M1 MKII other that possible FW updates for bugs and/or to be compatable with future accessories or lenses . It is now on the FW version 3.X and the E-M1 got 4 major upgrades so it is possible that E-M1 MKII will get one more bigger update. But as I said I do know this.
      The difference between these two in bird photography and macro is very little.

    I find a bit unfair or misleading to classify the E-M10 as an upgrade from the cell phone. I have upgraded to E-M10 from a compact camera and it was a big step, the most important advantage being the interchangable lens. There is a gap between cell phones and OM-D where compact cameras or PEN-F-like cameras fit, so from cell phone one may still have many options to upgrade to less capable cameras.

    • @ForsgardPeter
      @ForsgardPeter  4 года назад

      OM-D E-M10 is far better than a smart for photography. Lenses, ergonomics to star with. Image quality with a camera is a lot better than with a phone. Saying that I see that many use mobile phones for many reasons. I do, if I want to share an image immidiately and some times even use the camera from apps like Whatsup and Signal.

    Here's something for your next video that is very important to me: does any of them have automatic restart when the 30 min video record limit is up? I record my stage performances and I would love to be able to record a whole three hour performance. So far I've been using my phone and our old Canon eos700d, which will automatically restart if Magic Lantern is installed. It takes almost a second before it gets going again, but that's where I cut to the phone footage or just black screen, since I record external audio. But I'm in love with the Olympus colors and would love to upgrade to one of those.

    • @ForsgardPeter
      @ForsgardPeter  4 года назад

      No it wont. You need to start is again. There will be small gap between clips. What I usually do is that I will make the cut in recording during pauses if any. Also use B-roll for example from the audience to fill that gap. Other way could be that you usea video capture device like Elgato Camlink and record it straight to your computer. External recorder could also be an option.

      @Herfinnur 4 года назад

      @@ForsgardPeter as I said, I don't mind the gap, but I obviously can't go into the audience room in full costume in the middle of an opera to push the record button. An external recorder is as expensive as a used camera, so that isn't an option either. A laptop is way too big for a situation where a normal video camera is already to big and disturbing. Can't you ask someone at Olympus to add an automatic restart option? 😬 No? I guess I'll have to go with a...?

      Yes that is a bit of problem. Unfortunately the only solution is to try the use the right eye. I know it can be hard but worth to learn.

    If you have to choose as main camera EM1 II or EM 5 III, what do you buy? I must upgrade from broken EM10 II, I mainly do macro and landscape.

      @ForsgardPeter  4 года назад

      No need to buy anything.

      Peter Forsgård There’s a need. His camera broke. The em5 III and the EM1 II can both be had for $1000 if you know where to look. At that point, size , ergonomics and weight will be the deciding factor.

      I would go with E-M5 MKIII.

    Peter, could you please give your viewers an insight what the impact exactly is of the current situation on your business as you mention? Are you able to adapt it creativly in your work, by for example capturing 'the end of the world scenery' as a photogenic opportunity? In a certain way, this time has the potential where future historians need the content you could possibly provide.

      That is true, I need to think this and maybe get some views on other photographers too. Great idea for a video.

    thank you for that video!
    i have a request: i can't find any videos about the video features of the eM10MIII , i have one of them since a year and i'm always struggling with the color profiles (Vivid, enhenced, natural, neutral, portrait ...).. i want it like more flat..
    Can we bypass the profiles or something?
    I usually use the neutral profile but it's often greenish and strange compare to my other micro 4/3 (a GH4).
    Can you tell us about that in a future video?

    • @ForsgardPeter
      @ForsgardPeter  4 года назад +2

      I am planning on making a video about the video features and best settings on OM-D cameras. I already have a rough script for it. It is on its way and the profiles is a great topic in that video.

    OK -- that helped me sort out the different OM-D series finally! :-) I can be a little slow. Hey! Send me one of each, temporarily of course, and I'll test then out and compare them and send you the cameras the photos back! :-) Thanks Peter -- stay safe!

    The OMD series took a step backwards with the newer EM-5 and the EM-10. Cheap and plasticky with pro features removed. Olympus is missing an opportunity with a Pen-F Mark II. Would love to see a new Pen with a flip LCD instead of an articulating one.
