You gotta love to this day V DUBS still one of the most popular cars. Still holding it down after all these years. My favorite part of being a member of the best Car Club in the World, if you ask me is us VW family never trash VW ANYTHING! Yes from time to time the Old Lady has enough of tripping over VW parts and forces a liquidation of them but whatever it may be you can guarantee it has a new home and won't be lost and wasted forever. If it's rusty and has a VW on it, it's perfect.
Hi Mustie1 Like your no nonsense videos I'm not even a big beatle or vw fan but from your dads camper to just the cars engines you find there's allways something interesting i also have to agree with you with the beatle convertible your welding might not have made the purists happy but it kept a lovely car on the road for another few years keep up the good work John
Oh man, when you hooked up the power for the first time and tried cranking it, it reminded me of my grandfather's old Ford 9N tractor. It had a six volt battery and sounded just like that! Memories...
Brotha, I'm sure you don't see yourself as a "celebrity", which is one of the things that makes you great... that friendly humility, but you're quickly rivaling Mike Rowe as my top "famous dudes I'd like to buy a beer." Love your common sense approach and the way you talk yourself (and us) through things in your garage... reminds me a lot of my own approach... with the exception of the fact I don't have the luxury of telling folks I'm making a RUclips video when they catch me talking to myself 🤣 At any rate, thank you for so freely sharing your vast wealth of knowledge in such an easily comprehensive way.
I found that removing the plugs and putting a squirt of engine oil in the cylinder and cranking it, then putting the plugs back in, made it much more likely to start quickly. It temporarily improved compression. Try it!
V.W. bit the dust in my part of the country because of emission testing, I drove a 74 Thing that drove me nuts trying to get it to pass emissions, Horizontal engine configuration left hydrocarbon emissions too high for state requirements. Before emissions killed them I had a dune buggy (6 volt electrical system) that I drove the beaches in Mexico, had implement tires for flotation and gave 30 miles to the gallon. Sure miss the ole days
Cool 13 here in Northern Ireland family owned lawnmower business, have 4 vintage lawnmowers huffy caprice bolens 1050 with 2cv engine wolf garten cart and a john deere 68. All very hard to find out here, also my dad said 4 years ago my granda threw out 8 huge crates of vintage engines etc, I found two of them hidden in our scarpwayrd
another great video mustie!! that's a great vw haul!! I've got a beetle myself, and love seeing other people love the hobby the way i do! keep em coming!
BLC is short for Brown-Lipe-Chapin Co. Starting in the 1936 they made headlights, bumpers, and hubcaps along side Guide Lamp Corp. They both had heavy association with General Motors and eventually became divisions of GM.
I have learned a lot of great tricks from watching your videos, my favorite being the squirt bottle of two stroke fuel. My go to trick, but one I haven’t seen you try, is to use a propane torch to clear flooded plugs and get some heat into them. I am not sure why it works but it does
Sometimes you win....sometimes you.... but when I listened to it in the beginning I thought it was rougher than many you have cold started, I see how I'm gonna use my jumper pack come spring.
Loved my '57 bug. Bought it for $350 in 1969. Even a clutz like me could keep it tuned, which was a must. The carb manifold would be coated with ice as it idled to warm up. Had to have that new exhaust, what was that called? Wide wheels and tires. Later put Porsche front brakes on it. Such fun.
Dang.....I get physically worn out watching you try to start engines. I'm in my seat moving my whole body back and forth rooting for every engine you try.
hi mustie 1, i love watching your stuff, i can so relate to what you are up to, me and my son are doing up a baywindow 1979 camper, i'm john in leeds, uk. wish i live round corner from you coz i'd be one of those mates forever borrowing lol, i've retired now and i enjoy watching
Mustie1 and New England VW enthusiasts, wanted to share with you all that the Connecticut Terryville Volkswagen bug affair will be brought back this year. Fathers day june 17. Look it up. looking forward to it returning. Btw, nice score on vw hoard!
Hi Mustie, what you called a "sway bar" is actually a unique VW feature and is called "Ausgleichsfeder" in German. It works exactly the opposite way a sway bar does. It makes the suspension of the outer rear wheel softer when taking a road curve, thus somewhat reducing the risk of oversteering.
Extra nice haul you two (Mac says as he drools over his keyboard). Thought for sure you would check spark after you cleaned those points. But it was about to rain (on your parade - haha).
*What i like to do is that situations is, on the end of my fuel squirter, i put a windshield wiper squirter nosal on the end of it so it send a mist of fuel and not just a stream.* Helps A LOT in situations like this. On a fresher engine or a better tuned one they both work fine.
*Mustie1* that Scat stickered engine is a runner! Excellent video, these will it runs make my day every time. I have a giant spread winged jet hood ornament, weighs probably 5 lbs, anyone know what it's from? I look forward to all your videos, keep them coming Mustie1
Mustie, you need a Buffalo Pitts stationary steam generator. You hook it up to a 12 volt generator and channel the heat from the funnel through flues to heat up the average Atkinson winter day in your workshop.
The horde grows larger...that was quite a score. Yes we want to see the bug on the road again. It looks like it is in good condition at least on the outside.
nice bug ! the oil cooler on the back of the shroud never was a great idea being it heating the air that's supposed to cool the cylinders ! square back window bug sizes are 58 to 64 , 65 to 71, 72 and later pretty sure. the round bowl 30 pict 1 is a great carb and pretty sure 67 only ! have fun ! that bug looks like a runner !
You're killing me Mustie1 not seeing that plug wire off (I was sure you'd notice it). I'm sure we'll see the great revile and startup on all four cylinders. ;-)
Seems like it was only hitting on 1 to 2 cylinders. If the only problem was that one spark plug lead disconnected, I bet it would have started. Anyways, congrats on a fine parts haul and what appears to be a very straight '68 bug. Hope the underside looks as good as the body.
when you get one of these running, you could totally make a jump cart out of it using a big battery, a bass competition alternator, and long set of cables with a big anderson connector on one end. it would be quiet too since this engine is big enough that you could just put a big pulley on it and run it a little above idle.
Mustie1...some info on blc lights: What is B-L-C? In 1936, as Guide continued to grow and expand, the Brown-Lipe-Chapin Co (B-L-C) was named a plant of Guide Lamp Corp. The Syracuse, NY company turned out lamps, bumper guards and hub caps for GM's eastern section of the United States. I only know of this because of it's ties to syracuse.
I get emails when you upload new videos. I love them! Even though I have no clue what you're doing most of the time. You remind me of a channel I also follow, Jafromobile. You and Him are a lot alike. :)
Mustie's somebody wrote a message saying a plug wire is not hook up know you can't see it I would have used my brain to send some waves your way but to far from where I live did give good memory's of starting one in cold weather with plug wires not hooked up had a 69 that use to play tricks on me in the 70's then I figure it out woe !! After the smoke cleared and all those donuts , pizza's yeah Orange Crushes thanks enjoyed every minute !¡! : P
Of course it will. It's a bug engine. One of the best little engines in the world. And cheap and easy, and fun to work on.
Nothing better than a will it run episode. 👍👍

That will go. Not far off. Good vid. Good find.
How can you dislike this, when it’s like reviving a dead person. Every time Mustie gets one going again a smile just happens naturally !
Your videos are informative and relaxing to watch. Thanks for all you do.
I did not hear what you payed for this haul,(as if it was any of MY business)! And what a haul it was! Car + parts= heaven! Thankz
Wow, what a nice find of parts, engines and a Bug! I had a 71 Super beetle that was this color.
An engine that wanted to run more than this one I have not seen. :>) Thanks, Mustie.
We were all willing it on for ya mate.
I haven't a powder blue bug in a long time. Gonna be nice to see you restore it. Happy Valentines day Mustie. Love the videos.

Love seeing those old engine starting :D
BLC is short for Brown-Lipe-Chapin Co. Starting in the 1936 they made headlights, bumpers, and hubcaps along side Guide Lamp Corp. They both had heavy association with General Motors and eventually became divisions of GM.
I noticed the fresh air box to dash vent adapters... really need a pair of those for my 71 super

I dunno why, but I love these resurrection vids-especially the vws(I’m a vw nut). Looking forward to hearing that engine come to life!
Sometimes you win....sometimes you.... but when I listened to it in the beginning I thought it was rougher than many you have cold started, I see how I'm gonna use my jumper pack come spring.
I do believe Mustie is in VW heaven!!!!
Looking forward to seeing if those engines do start up.....well I mean when you do get them started you always do.
Such fun.
Wow! What a great find! Be sure to adjust the valves. After a while out of the car, they are sure to be out of tolerance.
Dang.....I get physically worn out watching you try to start engines. I'm in my seat moving my whole body back and forth rooting for every engine you try.
Mustie, I like your determination.
I love these will it run videos... I know your wife and neighbors love it too lol

Greetings from Denmark. Too bad it did nor start mustie. can’t wait for your next video. 👍
I just checked about the B-L-C Head lamps and found a "Hot Rod Disorder, Guide to B-L-C Headlamps. PLEASE keep the videos coming.
Looks like some vintage Gene Berg dual carb linkage! Nice stuff!
Ho Mustie you are the greatest you are the king of mechanics.
Vintage BLC 682-J headlights Guide 1932 Ford hot rod 1934/1935/1936 Chevy truck

Nice score Mustie! that dual port seems to be quite nice.
That engine tried so hard to start thanks i wanted it to run so badly i was rooting for it lol.
Wow, what a great find, and some really useful stuff.
Always look forward to a mustie1 video!!!!
I told told Brian that you guys got a nice load of gold. Now I know who to call when I need parts for mine. LAter -Ed
I can't wait to get my hands on one of these Beetles. Preferably with the smaller tail lights and teardrop decklid. Oh my.
Great barn Find... Nice, Tons of spare parts..
Hope u continue with this, love seeing u bring scrap back to :) life
Yeah it usually helps when all the plug wires are connected. lol
A lot of good parts there. Cheers.
The cliffhanger resumes, thanks Mustie some serious treasures
Sounds like it will be a good runner. Can’t wait to hear the bug.
B-L-C stands for Brown Lite Chapin. And you're correct. They were for GM cars and trucks.
Actually Brown Like Chapin
LIPE. @#$%$€@% AUTO CORRECT
You need to change your diet.
Too much carbs.

Love the revival videos !!please. Make videos on the vw fastback
Yes! Mustie is the man with the truck full of rusty gold
H cases are '67-'69 1500 Single port. Great score on those early ('64 and older) popouts!
Awesome finds and awesome videos.

I'm drooling over your VW gold lol..
These items could not have went to a better home , Rock On VW Mustie1
looking forward to more garage fun

love bringing them back to life
one of the neat things about VW aircooled engines is you can start them on the tailgate of your truck ! Not recommended for a Mopar V8 however
"Looks like a Roadking special" haha I was thinking the same thing when I first saw that engine!
I don't know who's more excited when they turn over and run, me or you?...lol
fantastic video
Nice addition to the hoard
All those engines and carbs....... when I get my bug and need parts, I know who’s my best friend
Gotta say, Mustie is just a little bit more than grimly determined.
That's good ass it has some compression that means you can work on it with ease.
You, sir, are in a growing need of outbuildings.
Mike
Yes one plug lead was off, but it did show signs of life :-D
It needs fondling a bit more by you lol :-D.
That rusty one looks rather ill.
i bet that rusty one still has some fire in her blood
Why was it dumping white smoke? Is that like a mixture of unburned gas mixed with some slight exhaust from partial ignition?
tarstarkusz in this case you are right in some other cases it can mean that its burning alot of oil and this one might be a little bit
+Wolf... Thanks. Doesn't burning oil produce a blue tinted smoke?
tarstarkusz sometimes but mostly just clouds of white smoke
You might want to try rigging up a starter button wired up to a couple clip leads for playing with starting motors.

I only know of this because of it's ties to syracuse.
insighful information. Thanks!
Great video bro I am guessing it will not take much to get that motor running but looking forward to see if the bug runs.
Doctor the patience is flat lining! How about a VW air boat for the camp?
I get emails when you upload new videos. I love them! Even though I have no clue what you're doing most of the time.

I made the mistake of Googling Scat....
traderjoes I had someone ask me one time " Why would you wanna run shit parts in your VW?" All I could do was laugh and smh.
@Traderjoes..:Big mistake!,there are some strange people out there!.
I'm betting you didn't get music with lots of "bop be doo, looow bay doh be doh doh baaaaaay" and such.
traderjoes c
Yeah, it is like a Christmas catalog.

You need to get out the Magic Hammer it seems to work wonders
Lots of stuff now for you to work on and also for us to watch on video
I have an idea for ya.. maybe u could put the motor in the shop and spray the outside of castings for week let the heat take care of hard starting
You should be on Discovery channel: VW Pickers.😁
He WAS approached by a network for a reality show - turned them down. He did a video on this.
The BLC 682 lights old 1932-36 I think probably $4-500 worth depends on condition and how many people are looking for them. 👍👍
oooh, there's a face in the fingerprints/dust on the fan shroud. definately some sort of miracle!
Blc headlamps are hot rod headlights reconditioned there 500 a pair nice find
