The beta version of Eleven completely froze my computer - the only thing that worked was the mouse & pointer, but that did nothing, even Carl/alt/del did nothing. I reformatted, reinstalled and after a few hours the same thing, So another reformat and reinstalled Ten - plus of course dozens of programs. Two days of my life gone.

A quick and dirty way to recover the old file explorer ribbon, though the change is temporary and is discarded when you exit file explorer, is to:
    1 Bring up File Explorer.
2 Tap the Up Arrow in the navigation ribbon to bring up the Desktop.
3 Select the displayed Control Panel icon (it still uses the old Windows 10 Explorer scheme). Then, when Control Panel comes up...
4 Hit the Up Arrow again to return the browser to Desktop.
It will now be in the old File Explorer mode and the full old ribbon is exposed. Tabs are also gone. Being that I only need this on rare occasions, this is really fast to do and serves its purposes for me, though again, this change goes away when you close file explorer.

some things never change, install windows 10, "hack" or mod it to get another look or function.. windows 11: install it, "hack it" or mod it and change it into what you want.
It does sound familiar... buy a iphone and jailbreak it, install a different firmware... i see a connection there but i may be wrong.
I prefer to install a OS that i dont need to mod or "hack" to be functional but its what i prefer, whatever you prefer, i wish you the best in life.
Im happy i only have one windows computer to worry about, its a massive job to care for 3 computers with windows (i used to have 3 windows computers)

That’s what I was looking for… the old interface! Only thing missing in file explorer is tabbed browsing. Someone may create a tweak to put the share tab back in. People just hate Microsoft for making unnecessary changes to Windows. It breaks people’s workflow and they have to spend time putting things back the way they were.

I don't mind the new windows 11 explorer aesthetically , I just hate the right click context menu, I'm a geophysicist and data processor I'm working on my computer all day everyday using multiple software packages and applications simultaneously, many of them I use through selecting a file in explorer then either opening it or performing a process on it via the context menu, except now I have take another step to get to the old windows 10 context menu. Other than that though I'm ok with Windows11, in my opinion it looks better than Windows10 and according to Nova benchmark testing it hasn't slowed my computer down any significant amount.
Edit, sorted, you can revert the context menus back to Windows10 style by adding a key to the registry which I just did, the ribbon at the top is a nothing burger I don't know why people are so upset about it.

Why MS does not install an app with Win11 that allows the user to make these minor GUI changes to WIN 10 Style, it seems petty minded to me. What is it they want to do - make users spend time learning or becoming familiar with a new interface? In this example a change in the registry surely does not add any overhead or decrease the performance of a computer.

Oh, did I welcome this fix to return File Explorer from Win11 to the Win 10 format. But, while I faithfully followed the second option in the video that is the 'string' option, it did not work. I cannot explain this apart from finding already a 'Blocked' file in 'Shell Extensions'. First I simply created within this another string as shown in the video and when this failed to make the changes, I deleted this and created a new file, 'Block2' and again inputted the string value. No success, re-starting the desktop gave me again the Win11 File Explorer. I wanted this because Win 11 File Explorer just about fell-apart after I deleted 'OneDrive' which was giving me a headache and it seems to others.
Any suggestions will make me very grateful but, I am not good at working on the under-belly of programmes, I'm just a user albeit since Win3.n when I had to think a bit more.

OMG, here we go again with those that should just stay with Windows 10 if you do not understand progress and simplifying things. Microsoft gave hundreds of thousands of questions and design likes and dislikes surveys, including betas, and the majority likes the new Windows 11 toolbar in file explorer. It is more simple, and cuts out the majority of crap we do not use in any version. Also, what you are saying about when you change this, it disables other things very important. Yeah, just what I was talking about. Anyways, the main reason you ALWAYS upgrade your version of Windows when a new full version comes out is security and being up to date.
And that requires you will have to upgrade your computer most likely. Enable secure boot and TPM 2.0, which should already be done prior to installing Windows 11 anyways, as this is really required. I also recommend enabling ransomware and core isolation memory protection in the Windows settings and using what is built into Windows with the firewall and anti-virus/anti-malware (keep all of Windows current and up to date weekly) and just run something simple like the Eset free security scanner once a month. Do not install third party anti virus programs! Just upgrade the computer every 5 years or less, and you will be fine. That is why I have custom builds. Much easier and better.

Over time, I get a nice workflow going. Then when I have to buy a new machine, low and behold Windows has once again 'fixed' what wasn't broke, and FUBAR my workflow.

Brain could you do a video on how to make icons smaller! In the taskbar and on the desktop etc.. In Windows 11 Please!! 🖖👍🏻
I always post nice! comments, (no foul words) on all your videos, but they keep disappearing for No Reason! pretty much instantly!
So I refuse to use the Join/Thanks buttons until it stops! RUclips like shooting them self's and creators in the foot. lose money!

I don't post and never have posted foul words, but links I have done in the past. Then spammers abused that option and posted disgusting links. So I know that option isn't a thing, maybe its RUclips thinking I put a link from words used :/ algorithm being stupid! 😁👍🏻

But if you allow me to make an observation... what the heck is that string on the Registry?! What that does even mean?? 😂 Just why Microsoft does things this way?? I mean... I do believe that it makes things hard even for MS Team to know what's going on. If at least Windows could have something as simple as DConf and/or save it's fukin' (excuse the curse word) configs into plain text files instead of binary life would be a lot easer.

My problem with the File Explorer in Windows 11 is not how it looks. My problem is I can not create a new Folder on the level "This PC".
I can only create new folders in EXISTING Folders like Images and Documents. This annoys me a lot. I want to create my own Folders. Is there a solution for this crazy problem?

    • @FranciscusRoorda
      @FranciscusRoorda 2 года назад

Problem solved. It turns out on my new PC the Folder "This PC" is the SAME as OneDrive. That is insane. OneDrive is not on This PC and why is this Folder double? On the D-section (and on OneDrive) I can make new Folders.

I've used registry entries to modify the win 10 explorer to have the file details at the bottom like in win 7 (and before).
File details on the right are complete nonsense as they use up way too much space and infos like image resolution are not displayed anymore.
Is this functionality also available in win 11?
Can the winaero tweaker do that?
Does anybody know if the registry entries still work?
Oh, btw, did they put "search files by date" back via an actual calender or do we still have to type "datemodified:‎...."?
How could they even think of disabling that!?
    Thanks,
    cheers

Brian. Just a suggestion. When you are showing HOW-TOs for Windows 11, you really should be using a default version. The version you use has been configured for you and I find it difficult to see with the dark theme and other tweaks you have done. Thanks

Exactly. When Win 10 came out everyone wanted it to look like Win 8.1 or Win 7, yet now that Win 11 has come out, everyone wants it to look like Win 10. I'd rather just get on with it, rather than being in a '1 version back looking' time warp.
