an inexpensive camp hack. go to a dollar store and get pot holders, put one under each cot leg to save wear and tear on the floor of your tent.

Check out a 17" blackstone griddle. No more pots and pans to clean. Great for elk hunting camp, sailboat, and camping. It truly is awesome

I gotta say, I really love how you presented these products! I'm usually the friend who does the trial and error and lets my friends know what they're getting into when starting a hobby, and that's how this video felt. You're that friend! Thanks for giving us your insights, I'm slowly getting back into camping and this video was really helpful!

I bought one of those Nemo camp showers. I’m SO glad you brought it up. I was wondering what would be a good basic setup to shower. I recently got mine and I used to shower before work. Works perfectly! Keep it up, Brad!

Brad, I am gad you and your son got that opportunity and had a great trip, it looked great from the footage you shot. I'm still developing my camping load out for the Jeep, I have even less space with the 2 door and I must admit the wife and I usually over pack. I did get the air bags from airlift and have them installed but as yet have not tested them with a load out. Thanks for sharing your gear, I especially liked those chairs.

Michael, I'm also in a 2d JK and found that by taking out my backseat (its typically just me and my husband, bestfriend, or my dog in my Jeep) I freed up so much space. I built a wood platform over the back area extending over the foot walls and gained so much space. Today I just finished up building out a top deck for even more space for an upcoming trip to Big Bend next week. Just a thought of you can afford to say goodbye to your backseat.

I've been camping in the boundary waters for 20 years plus, and I'm really impressed with your gear, we mostly use the same but I'm extremely minimal and lightweight. It's great to see other stuff from the same company. I'm also a Jeep guy that hits the old lumberjack trails... Not sure if I'm more excited that I found your channel, or upset for the upgrades I'll buy on my Jeep. Well done! Excited to see all the content.

Have you seen many people pull off road trailers out on the trail? I passed a really nice jku pulling a trailer with a roof top tent on it, even had the same wheels & tires as on her lifted jeep. Seems like a nice way to keep the jeep from being overloaded & too top heavy.

    • @TrailRecon
      @TrailRecon  5 лет назад +5

We don't come across too many folks with trailers. For the type of off-roading I do, a trailer really isn't practical because I'm always on the move and not really base camping. I notice the weight on the top of the Jeep, but it wasn't a huge burden.

I don't have a problem only taking a shovel and a roll of toilet paper, but my girlfriend isn't thrilled with that option.

Brad you did it again! Spent part of the day yesterday looking into camping gear. Pots, pans, tables, even refrigerators. I’ve seen your take on your dometic fridge before. So since then I’m doing research on them, amp draw, capacity, duel zone, etc and trying to decide which is best. Almost there. As far as tents Im on order for an Ursa Minor which I cant wait for. Even the wife loved it due to the fact of no more sleeping on the ground. Bugs, critters, and anything else she’s afraid of. Scheduled delivery in October or now I can start saying next month! Couple of things I saw you have that I want are collapsible bucket, cooking pans, the pump collapsible water storage bag for cleaning or showering. So cool you put out this video just when I started up grading my camping gear! Way to go Brad another fine job as all your videos are!

Great post....soo many things to get. One think I know you have but I didn't see, is a battery charger etc. My favorite is the Antigravity, have had mine for over 5 years, no problems, And if ya get a chance, check out Ctek Battery charger, its not a charger per say, it does a great job on reconditioning your battery, will bring back to 90% new..the 5 stage process can take 24 hours. And it has a great trickle charge for idle/not so much used batteries.

Just for the reference. I have 40L compressor fridge (similar to yours) at my van which runs about 3 days at hot climate with "single freetime" 95Ah AGM battery setup. So, I do have secondary battery, but you should have any issues running these compressor fridges with single (good) battery for ~24h or so.
One tip is also to set fridge a bit colder when engine is running and then adjust it up few C's (or F's) while camping. This way you can "store" energy to cold fridge while riding, so that it doesn't use compressor as much while camping.

The gear looks great but I think you should show you packing it back up cause if any one is like me getting the stuff back in the bags is a fight with most stuff

Another great, informative video!! One question: What kinds of establishments provide/allow you to fill up with drinkable water?

I got rid of my roto water and went to NATO Jerry Can water. We carried 4 of these 20L along with 4 20L Jerry Can fuel on our 7 day. While very heavy at first ended up paying off for us in the end.

    Another great video Brad! Thanks.
Silly question perhaps...where/how do you you fill up your drinkable water in these 'little towns'?

Thank you! Yes, we made plenty of runs in and out of town, so no problem filling up water. I do cary a water purifier if needed though.

I hardly comment on videos, but wow. A lot of "hardcore" guys would say way too many luxury items, but I would say outside of your other tool video, these are easily all required items for easy stress free camping. Have you used any of the shower or utilitent stuff yet. Seems like more options from Australia are coming over. Usually still hard to get because of limited numbers brought over. I think I'll grab the green elephant utilitent and give that a try. Thanks for all the info you provide.
