Wonderful strategies - for writing and for life - thank you Tara! What I find helpful, as a visual artist who finds replenishment and inspiration in nature, is to take my journal or laptop into a lovely leafy environment, or even a cafe with a wonderful view of the seashore if its raining or too hot (or both - in Darwin in the Wet🤣). Then work feels like pleasure. (Only works if I can zone out the noise of humans on the day). And, being an introvert helps.😅
The relentlessness of a PhD is something I'm yet to experience, but it's imminent, and looming 🤔 on the horizon, thanks to you... ❤

Getting my ducks in a row to do my doctorate after a 16 year long maternity leave, feel so much better prepared with your excellent and pragmatic advice!

Interestingly, I read somewhere that Bukowski's excessive drinking was his way of getting himself into certain affective states, like the feelings of guilt, loneliness and existential despair during the hangovers, which was actually a necessary part of writing in that those feelings gave birth to inspiration and unorthodox ideas... (Arguably, many creative people indulge in these self-destructive behaviours for similar reasons). However, this is not particularly related to your video. Thanks a lot for your work, Dear Tara - it has been incredibly helpful!

Bloody hell Tara, you are so funny and so generous and just give, and give, and give to the world. You really care about people and want to lift us all up. You take people with you. You call us team and make us feel part of something larger than ourselves. I've been stuck for a number of years now in regard to my educational journey, macerating in cynicism. But your words bring hope and light to my life and I thank you deeply. Your audiobooks are such a treat and well. Also: is Goth origin studies a thing? 😆

Your mum sounds like my Gran who, on being asked why she had stopped going to bingo, replied,
'I don't like the carpet, and all my friends are dead.'
