Separation of two Siamese twins joined at the abdomen

More than 20 professionals took part in surgery to separate two Siamese twins joined at the abdomen, who were operated on when they were barely a month old. Siamese twins are extremely rare, and this was the first case to be performed at the SJD Barcelona Children's Hospital, as part of the solidarity cooperation programme called "Cuida'm". The surgery was successfully carried out thanks to the involvement of not only the surgical teams, but also the nursing, anaesthesiology, simulation, planning and 3D printing, international patient, neonatology and other areas involved. A great collective effort that has ended successfully and without incident thanks to thorough preparation. The babies, now independent twins, will be able to recover and grow normally in Mauritania, their country of origin.
