Ngl the only uniform that I’ll ever say came close to my Chargers Powder blues was those Oiler Uniforms ✨ Something about that sky blue with white and touches of Red. With a Qb wearing number 1 and throwing it into the sky like it was sailing. ⛵️ Must’ve been fun times for Houston.

As kids learning football we knew about Joe Montana, John Elway, and Jim Kelly but when we seen Warren Moon for the first time we were blown away. A professional football qb that was black like us! We fought over who got to be Warren moon in our backyard football wars. The good old days.

Honestly the CFL was the best thing for him. He was average in college. He would have been a late pick at best. Which he probably wouldn't have gotten a lot of chance to develop. The CFL gave him that chance. He definitely no doubt faced racism at every step. But ultimately the CFL was best for him at the time

Warren Moon was the greatest Quarterback for the Houston Oilers. Period. (Even over Pastorini...which is a high compliment for Houston). If times hadn't changed and we all didn't get a little older, then He is who I would be looking for to head the Offense this year and bring it with the "Run and Shoot"! It was a crazy ride...back then...and an emotional one while he was with the Oilers. So weird that he had to be part of so much drama all the time when he was so Great Everywhere. Now...Warren...a new guy is coming on strong in Houston as our QB. If he follows anything from what you were able to do here...He is going bring in the fantastic stats like you used to do. (And he has already started). Football is just as weird...as in life...sorry to be so profound (but this highlight video was very deep). Someone like Moon puts it all on the line...gives it his all. Then, they have to retire and watch others blow by all that they achieved as they become a memory. Thank you, Warren for taking the Oilers along with you on your journey! It was really great. Matter of fact...it was Legendary!

I wish the NFL had that deep an end zone. Its so expansive and deep, But I didn't know that Warren Moon went to Washington University, the same school that had a QB named Sonny Sixkiller. He would throw the ball so hard that he broke all his receivers fingers. That must have been the reason why the NFL didn't draft him. If it was truly 1970 the year Moon graduated college, that year Stanford produced Jim Plunkett. Same school that produced John Elway in 1983. He threw the football hard.

Oilers choosing Cody Carlson over Warren Moon is one of the greatest personnel blunders in NFL history. Carlson hurt his knee and shoulder, played terribly in five games, finished the season on IR, flunked his offseason physical, and never played again in the NFL.

    • @Matt-cr4vv

Maybe in hindsight you could argue that. But it wasn’t an idiotic move at the time. Warren was getting close to 40, was struggling with some injury troubles, and eventually teams move forward. Cody in the years leading up to the move had played well enough and the games he filled in 1992 and 1993 the team didn’t drop off and still won games. And in the end the fall off that cliff led to Steve McNair so long term it worked out in their favor honestly. It may have been bad at first but in true hindsight landing McNair was the long term better outcome.

The fact the dude played in Canada, at his peak and then came to the NFL, with arguably his best years behind him, but he still kicked arse is unreal. If he had a better defensive set-up with Houston, man he could well have been the GOAT. Seems to be a fantastic bloke as well. Its utterly ridiculous, nay hsameful, that having a black guy at QB! was off limits. Moon, my God, what a classy passer! Just look at that sling, and that spiral. He's also got S Super Bowl ring, from Seattle as well.\ as a commentator. So, yeah thats fantastic he has one.

I lived in Houston when Warren Moon was playing there….great player and good person, but was unfortunate to play for a terrible owner Bud Adams.

Just watched this for the first time and I didn't realize he had to win 5 times in the CFL to be recognized. Kudos to his perseverance to stay with it and succeed 👏
