      I’ve had mine for 18 years. I’m now on my second disassembly. The rollers begin to squeak every 6 years or so. $30 in new roller parts. Not the fault of the dryer per ce, there is a lot of excessive lint/women/golden retriever hair. But $30 every 6 years isn’t bad if you ask me. Post COVID, all global production for everything has gone to 💩! Many US manufactures have moved production to Asia. It’s not just LG, it’s global. On purpose for what’s to come…maybe. 😏

    Outstanding video with just the right advice, perfect for me who has never taken apart a dryer before. Luckily for me, I picked up the electric version of your LG dryer for next-to-nothing, followed your step-by-step and got about half a kitchen garbage bag worth of lint out of there. I also carefully took apart the clam-shell heater, and got all the burned lint out of it, so now the dryer doesn't smell like it's starting to catch fire. It now works perfectly, and dries clothes very quickly.
    My hat's off to you, Sir!

    • @jvivlemore

      Curious was it getting hot prior to you cleaning it out but just taking multiple cycles to dry clothes? That's what's happening to our electric one like this one and I've cleaned the vent going to the roof and that's clear now.

    • @littleolme9492
      @littleolme9492 Год назад +1

      @@jvivlemore I bought the dryer, used, for $100 from a local buy-and-sell website. When I brought it home I plugged it in and turned it on. It immediately ran and blew hot air. The problem was that the hot air smelled burned, and that's why I took it apart to clean it. I didn't even try drying clothes until after disassembling it for cleaning. But you make two good points - having the exhaust vent at a higher elevation than the dryer will naturally make the air move out better, and having a clean vent will make a world of difference, too, in allowing the warm, moist air to leave the dryer. That's been my experience, anyway.

    I was cleaning out a rental unit and the tenants left an LG washer and dryer. The owner said take them out, he didn’t want them. My washer is a “Sears, Roebuck & co” kenmore, that’s how old it is. So I said jackpot! Problem is, the people never cleaned either machine. As in never cleaned the washer (which smells like a mixture or ass, Fritos, and an ashtray) and the dryer which had the lint trap so packed it almost wouldn’t come out. So before I install the dryer, I want to take it apart and that’s how I found this video!! Thank you so much! This is so helpful!

    I cannot complain on LG, Especially TROMM - great quality to value once it is serviced properly....
    Mine is over 17 years old and steel running had to exchanged one of the drum wheels and did clean-up.
    Now since I am exchanging the washer (it still works but need exchange and improvement of balancers) I am using your video to remind myself of clean-up exhaust.
    THANK YOU.
    LG has great European design, simple and long lasting and functional in repair.
    Mine Gas Dryer haven't got that sticky dirty as yours....
    Whirlpool compared to LG is SHT. My brother already exchanged the dish washer and dryer with Washer when I did Washer (and is not broken).
    Other brother in Australia convinced me to buy LG because once he opened it had BOSCH components.

    Just an FYI, repair man here. No, you dont need to oil the rollers, but it ok to do. If you do lube the rollers just know that the lube will gum up with the repeated heating heating and lint. The two thermostats that you saw on the burner tube are just that, overheat thermostats. You did a really good job with the vid.

    Thanks for the video! I have a very similar model LG, but with the water tray at the top for steam and different display so the screw configuration around the control panel was different. Looked exactly the same when I got down to the burner: covered in black burnt lint. I left the rollers and belt in place as they seemed fine enough and not making any noise. I guess I can't complain too much as this is the only time I've opened it up in 12 years, but I will anyways. If they made it so just the bottom of the front panel could come straight off then I'd be down there cleaning off the burner more often. I think it was 12 screws and 4 panels to get to the critical area.

    The flame scanner also works to cut the gas off if lacking a flame, this could be a secondary scanner in case the first one fails?

    Great video. One question as I didn’t see it done or hear it mentioned is about the lint trap cavity into which the filter screen slips (it’s on the front panel). I didn’t see that is was taken apart to access the lint that collects in that cavity. I know I’ve tried to vacuum inside there (without taking that assembly apart) but my vacuum crevice tool is too short and thick to be much use.
    Also a regular light washing of the lint screen will remove fabric softener residue which reduces airflow.

    Excellent presentation. Thank you. Especially advice in ordering parts to replace before I go through the whole rebuild. Not sure if you cleaned the exhaust piping from the blower to the house exit, I’m sure you did, but I don’t think you mentioned it. That area can get plugged potentially causing low air flow. The flame won’t get pulled into the heating chamber where it belongs. You were lucky the over temperature thermostats shut it down, before you had a really disastrous fire.

    • @mechtrician1
      @mechtrician1  3 года назад

      Thank you. You are right, I did forget to mention it, but yes the exhaust line needs to be cleaned out as well. Mine is easy because it's only about 5 feet to the discharge, but they do need to be cleaned. It actually didn't over-temp though. I just happened to walk in and notice the smell and shut it down. Got lucky.

      The only other thing I have noticed with my LG is it doesn’t work worth a hoot if I just let it automatically dry. I have to use timed dry. Otherwise it doesn’t run near long enough and leaves the clothes pretty damp. It’s always been that way too.

I had been cleaning those pieces off with a screw driver but dont know what is causing it. I am planning to take the dryer apart soon to see if there is lint build up in there or not.
