People do like to complain about NY, yes.
However I’m for one am “happy as a clam” to relocate back home to New York State after spending 39 years working in Florida.
Taxes are absolutely higher ~but~ without HOA fees, outrageously high insurance costs, and higher food prices; my monthly expenses are less than in Florida. As for climate being colder? It’s fantastic compared to down south.
Same size house, same cars, same income; lower monthly living expenses.
And honestly, the cruelty that Florida bureaucracy shows its citizens is nothing I want to be part of.
And as far as our NY state government goes: NY is better at promoting the general welfare, and working to insure tranquility through such things and our anti discrimination laws. It’s that constitutional stuff.
I’m grateful to have been born in New York, and raised as a kid by the people of🗽New York.
    I 💙

On the other hand, my living expenses actually went down after I relocated back home to NY State from Florida. Same size house, same everything except my address.
Yes as you say, my taxes are higher ~but~ without HOA fees, outrageous insurance costs, and higher food costs my monthly bills are less. And that’s not even taking into account the cruelty shown citizens by state bureaucracy down south… Which is something I personally don’t want any part of.

If our tax dollars weren't going to corporations, instead of New Yorkers, in terms of public services, we'd have up to date infrastructure and benefits for us. The privatization of public services has got to go. I didn't agree to corporations profiting from my tax dollars, do you?

it's displacement, nothing to do with taxes. they are importing the entire world into our once all american communities and basically blockbusting the USA apart with foreign occupants driving up our cost of living forcing our people to leave our own cities for chinese and indian wealthy (who come by the millions because they each have BILLION population, there is an endless stream of them to displace us...)

Definitely, the rich people keep moving out because of the high city/state taxes and the state is going to be poor as can be. And the entitlements the state gives out to its residents are not going down because the politicians are afraid to make any cuts, so the state will eventually go bankrupt.

Of course the property insurance market is collapsing in Florida, Texas struggles to keep the lights on, Phoenix has set records for going months with 100+ degree temperatures, and North Carolina look safe till, uh, that big hurricane that also wacked Florida and Georgia. With global warming accelerating, I would not make any firm predictions, as the Sunbelt has big issues with climate... of course, New York is currently on fire...

Lack of immigration reform will continue to eracerbate the problem. Americans are only having children at a 2.0 clip; whites specifically at 1.6. Modernization decreases child birth and increases the need for immigration.

@adrianharris6000 dude, how old is your data? The country's been below replacement since the 2008 financial crisis. Gen Z is having way fewer children than Millennials, and overall fertility is lower than 1.7, Black birth rates fell from over 2 to the same level as Whites and Hispanics are also seeing plummeting birth rates. Nobody is thriving, and migrating to New York is less and less appealing every year.

Does this account for climate change? The Great Lakes region has been identified as a region that should feel less dramatic climatic changes compared to much of North America.
