my stubburn 350k mile work truck took a day and a half to do!. I cut on mine, sprayed it with a bottle of pb blaster, beat it with a hammer and eventually it popped off. Thankfully! i impacted it until it came loose and thats what got it finally.

You my friend!! Are THE man!!!! I was at odds with my 2015 gmc 3500 duramax ( not alot of room) I did not know it needs a special puller due to the size the regular one I use would not fit . ILooked up how to remove it and this video saved me.. cut it and popped right off. THANK YOU!

I always use a die grinder with a small cut off wheel. Then when almost to spline stop, then hit it with an air chisel it will crack it right down the cut line.

The 2016 2500 HD Duramax is different than the 2016 2500 HD 6.0 gas the steering gearbox is a way more closer to the frame rail on the gas model

Not the cheapest tool to use, but a Snap On PAR6880 puller works very well also being low profile/high leverage and the ability to be used in tight spaces like these newer trucks. Used that on a ‘21 Duramax when upgrading to Kryptonite components and no complaints.

I don't know what year that truck is, but the ones I've worked on don't have enough room between the crossmember and the end of the sector to do anything with. There's barely enough clearance to get the nut off the end of the sector let alone the pitman.

  • @OldGriz708

If you don't know what an angle grinder is the LAST thing you should do is buy one and touch any part of your $30k truck with it. As cheap as they can be had it's just as cheap and actually easier to replace the upper and lower control arms. I bought a set through Detroit axle and replaced the upper/lower control arm (they had new ball joints and bushings in them), inner and outer tie rods, sway bar links, Idler arm w/bracket, and pitman arm for under $500. Granted they are not near the quality of Moog or Kryptonite but I have been rolling on them for 3 years now and they are fine. By doing it this way I was able to use a two jaw puller on the pitman arm instead of cutting it.
