I opened my front door at midnight to let in the new year & my book was outside! Il ove the 1st 2 books & this one looks amazing. I will read cover to cover eventually but am already noting the graphic design, color coding & as usual beautiful photography from CG! 2025 shall be our most bountiful garden yet!
One thing about checking how sunny an area of your yard is to take into account the trees. I remember doing the sunshine check one April and found the perfect sunny spot for my garden. Come May/June that area wasn't so sunny once the trees had popped out with all their leaves.
I love growing in raised beds and containers for my fruit, brassicas & herbs. Will be trying in ground gardening for the first time this year, and super excited to grow some corn in it
That DOES sound exciting!!! Keep me posted okay?! I am in mostly raised beds, including up on the hill in the ground but in a partial bed...? Anyways...keep me posted! I am excited for you and can't to hear your updates - keep it fun! Thank you for commenting - CaliKim
I like how you covered such a broad range of gardening possibilities, what matters is that people garden. I have a friend in Chicago that has an awesome balcony garden, even with mostly an eastern exposure. His balcony by late summer is a virtual sanctuary, practically every square inch of space is utilized and growing something. Personally, if I had to do it over again, I would have skipped the raised beds and did a one time tilling of my clay soils with some high quality compost (if I could find any), do not want to think about the high cost of the lumber I used in making my raised beds. Another reason I would grow in the soil is because I am finding huge benefits with perennial cover crops, raised beds settle overtime making the perennial cover crops in the way. This past spring I dug out all my perennials, mixed in a yard of topsoil, then replanted the perennials, never again, lol. Light is one of the most critical aspects in any garden, it took me a couple years to fully appreciate it, still making adjustments. Great video to kick off the new year Kim, glad to see Mac by your side. Stay Well!!!!
Thank you so much for sharing your experience and sharing with all of us! What I like about your comment is your attitude of "This is what worked best for me." Well done, Brian!! Mac has a post op check in Friday, he had one lymph node that the doc felt had become a little bit larger than pre-op. Keep you posted - Kim
Hi Mrs Baker welcome to Northern California! May I suggest growing “sun gold” tomatoes in your garden this year. They do so well in our area and are honestly the best cherry tomatoes I’ve ever grown. I wish you a successful harvest this year. 💙💚💛🧡💜 Liz from California
Happy New Year Kim (and Max, and Camera Guy)! Love your t-shirt Kim. Looking forward to gardening with you in 2025. I injured my hip, so I am looking to set up the garden differently this year. Over the years I have hand watered my plants, but I am definitely ready to automate that, so I look forward to your video about that. I have watched some of your previous drip videos, but the more I see it, the more it makes sense. 🥰
K, so sorry to hear about your hip. We will definitely cover drip in upcoming videos...we're covering this series in sequential order, so hang in there!!! Remember, let's keep the communication lines open, every step of the way, ok! Don't let anything stop you and I'll support you however, I can from here... Kim
I got your book from Amazon. It’s so beautiful and well done. Looking forward to 2025 Springtime! 🎊 🎉I’m time challenged. I really like container gardening. Thank you CK $ CG!
So glad you love the book! Container gardening is a great way to grow! 🙂 Annie....thank you for being such a steadfast supporter/encourager to us, RUclips times have been difficult and your comments have really helped us through. God bless you. Kim/Jerry
Hi there you two!! I cleaning up my garden and trying to reorganize the garden a little bit. Like taking new areas in the backyard😄. Next I hope to figure out how I can put in a watering system. Nice to see the carrots in a grow back. Is that about a 20 gallon grow bag or larger?? Thank you for this video!!
I live in a rental farmhouse with no water spicets outside, but I'm determined to have a small garden. I'll be lugging water, but I'll figure something out.
Not even one hose bibb on any side of the house? I have 3 but none are where I need them so I link 100ft hoses to get the water to my furthest points. It may be worth it to ask your landlord to add a hose bibb, even if you foot the bill. It will save you so many trips lugging water
@rootelation486 No my Landlord won't, I've brought it up in the past. I'll have connect a hose fitting to a inside faucet, which I've done before, that's a hassle but I'm not whining, I will do whatever is in my power to have my garden. Fyi..I have a inside garden at this point though.
I am an old man with a 2nd floor grow room, used to lug 5 gal buckets of water up 2 flights of stairs, now I hook up the hose on mild days, hang a string out the window (zone 5a) and pull up the hose and fill five gal buckets upstairs, lol. I picked up a 100 gal horse trough to store sump pump water, perhaps you could find a vessel to store some water outside? Good Luck, Stay Well!!!!
@brianseybert192 Thank-you, I'm no spring chicken either but I'll figure something out. I just want to grow my own food and have my own little garden of eden. Appreciate the help.
Since my new season started in september my biggest struggle is rats eating my food....theyve chewed my peas down twice and now im running out of time to get peas...i have only 5 months left before my garden shutdown
Rats are a tough one. Of course, there is NO ONE WAY to fend them off always and forever. Just the various approaches that you have to decide for yourself of which method to use.....traps, bait stations, etc.... (and I won't ask you which one you use) CaliKim.
@CaliKim29 oh my....name it ive tried it. I live in the everglades so as much as I hate to do it, I have to bait them....its the worst because I don't want any of our wildlife to eat the poisoned rats but it's the only way I can get a couple months without them😭😭😭
Rodents and our raised bed gardens! I have rodents that are enjoying a parsley and carrot top buffet in my raised bed wooden gardens and would love your tips on stopping this. If you’ve already done a video on this, could you share that?
