When I use to box in my hometown league I made it my mission to perfect that liver shot. Most boxers I faced always guard their head and neglect the body. Those liver shots are freaking painful.
And I assume only the best fighters train their bodies to absorb body shots like Muhammad Ali and a few other boxers.

They should be used more often, they seem to be a low risk high reward technique. Best part about the bodyshot is that the body is usually covered in muscle and fat, providing an excellent cushion for powerful bare knuckle punches with little risk of hand injury.

Scariest part of getting a liver shot in UFC is the ref doesn't stop and count like in boxing. You're writhing in pain while trying to brace yourself for a ground-pound which will be equally painful and devastating.
You CAN tap or your corner CAN end it

I had the displeasure to experience a kick to the liver from a champion in my gym and it's the most soul crushing experience I've had, I took like 2 of those to the head before and was RELATIVELY ok but after this I was in severe pain for like 20 minutes.

Those were the glory days, when he at the peak of his god status. The next fight was Weidman, which unfortunately dismantled his atmosphere of invincibility. The dude didn't even bleed at that time, even after the beating he took from Sonnen. It was a good time to be a Silva fan.

this kind of shit is why I always maintain that prima silva was the goat. There are guys with better records, but nobody made former world champions and top level competition look like total amateurs like Silva did.
To me, there’s nothing more satisfying than a soul crushing body shot in combat sports.
When I used to box, in sparring I got hit one solid time in the center of my sternum. That was the single sharpest pain I ever felt in my life. I collapsed instantly on the floor.
That was the only time in my life I experienced a real body shot.

Denis was hot for about 15min with his spinning back kicks. He won fights reliably until guys saw tape on him.

@@iamLionmannah he probably would have lost to Alistair regardless. That was Ubereem, he was just as juiced up as Brock was but he’s 10x better on the feet. Brock doesn’t really have any game-plan besides taking a guy down and mauling them, if he can’t do that then he loses every time.
Those body shots were devastating. Everybody wants the head knockout, but the body takes out all that too. Was fun to watch. Great video

The thing I've noticed about liver shots is that it takes the receiver a couple of seconds to realize he is in the worst pain he has ever felt. Watching that Jones-Rua clip, Jones must have hated Rua the way he destroyed him.

The spinning back kick to the liver where it catches the flat of the heel into the ribs is the most devastating strike I’ve seen in MMA. Looks like getting kicked by a horse. And you see guys pop back up after some knock outs, but no one who gets knocked down with a liver shot like that can even get back to their corner without help.

Also missing the Edson Barboza finish on Dan Hooker, which was brutal.
Bodyshots seem to be more effective in lower weight classes where there isnt much fat or muscle to protect damage to the vital organs
I enjoy watching body shots so much more than head shots.
