My wife and I drive the LR3. The blue LR4 is driven by our youngest son. The silver FJ is driven by our oldest son and his girlfriend drives the white LR4 and has been an awesome addition to our family. We do things together as a family. We drove sports cars together, then motorcycles, and now 4x4s. We've done multiple BDRs and look forward to the next off road adventure together.
We thought this might get only a couple hundred views or so since it's so long and it takes us longer to put out content. So to see it explode and everyone's comments is crazy. Thank you to everyone for that! A little more explanation on things. We are a family that travels together and likes to have fun. We are still learning, we're not perfect and don't try to be. But we go out as much as we can and get better everyday. How else should you learn? Tire pressures in the beginning. Yes we aired down. One, because we were at 45psi driving on the highway for 2 days, two because it's more comfortable, and 3 we saw the weather dropping and it's always better to be prepared before you run into issues. Editing, it's a one man band. Trying to film, take photos, edit etc all while I lead and try to help newer drivers through new experiences. I understand it's not perfect, but this is fun for me outside my normal job. If you dont like it, then that's cool too. It's not for everyone. Tires, we dont run MT tires because the ATs are better for 99% of everything we do. We arent going out trying to find danger or get a trophy for going through mud. We want to go to places others only read about online. If that's taking a paved road then great, hard packed that's good too. We arent going for best 4x4 extreme test award here. Equipment, we do go prepared. Even on easy trails we have people die in the NW every year because they ran out of water and didnt air down their tires. Only a few miles from an exit. We'd rather be comfortable and safe then stripped down and "rugged". Hopefully that answers your questions a bit. Please know we appreciate all of your support and hope we could provide at least a little entertainment while sharing our families story!

I keep hearing everyone talk of reliability issues of LR4. My brother drove his LR3 for 170,000 miles with only a air suspension replacement and multiple brake services, then bought a V8 LR4 that is now close to 80,000 miles with out a single issue so far. However I must admit that I had to file for a lemon law on a 2016 Range Rover for electronic issues.
Nice video. I've been in UT since 1980, got my first L88 (defender 90) in 1973, safari roof, etc. Drove a 1999 Disco II for 15 years, an RR 09 HSE, and I'm still driving an LR4 HSE Lux 2016. I drove Land Rovers in Argentina and Bolivia, where roads are optional. If you take care of the vehicles, they will last a long time. I've been in 16 countries, retired military. I service my vehicles with Amsoil 100% synthetic oil, change the oil every 20 thousand miles. There is nothing better than getting dirty in style.

Great video! That place is on my bucket list! Finally got a rig, now to make it suitable and reliable and get out there! Gnarly weather, too, dang! Great to see non-jeeps out there killing it!
This was a great watch, really enjoyed it. Well put together with some good video angles and footage. I'm surprised you have time to document it all on your holiday. I'm in the UK, Utah is another world and it looks wonderful. I've done the touristy stuff like momument valley which I did in October 7 years ago and I was surprised at how early it went dark and cold it was at night but once the sun got up the next day it was wonderful.
Not sure why people have bothered leaving negative comments. What a pleasure to see some Discos actually off-road for a change (and not breaking down). I’ve never seen a video in Utah when it’s been wet. Thanks for taking the time to share your trip with the world.
Well done and thanks for sharing your adventure! Your film does a fantastic job setting the tone for traversing the southern Utah backcountry and highlighting the unique landscape. As a fellow PNW native myself, I love adventuring in southern Utah and look forward to someday duplicating your route. Also, very cool to see the LR4s tackling the terrain. Looking forward to your next film!
@@SirWilliamGoes oh no I was luckily up in the rocky section of the road and next to a beautiful lake camping and fishing. But there is a section of road that slopes towards a drop off that gets terrible with mud. I went down checked it out and went back up. And I was glad I did when another truck rolled over right there.
Welcome to Utah where you can have four seasons in one day. You guys did great and handled the challenges well. Next you plan to hit southern Utah I recommend the fall around thanksgiving or early November. Hope you guys do it again.
The Land Rovers could have used a more mud oriented tire such as BF Goodrich · KM · Mud-terrain. In that kind of sticky mud you were going through, you need a tire that is self cleaning which is what you get with a tire with widely spaced aggressive tread. The widely spaced aggressive tread helps to throw off the mud as the tire spins which in turn helps you to gain more traction.
Fantastic video and a shock to me as a Brit. I thought Utah was all about heat and dust! That clay looks like the typical stuff we have in the UK all year around. Nice to see the LRs doing so well. It is what they were built for. I am a LR fanatic and have several. For long tough expeditions there is still nothing to beat the Defender BUT in slippery conditions all the fancy modern traction control stuff makes life a lot easier and safer.
Great video, great weather for off-roading! Great scenery! Too bad you have not done more adventure trips like this in other places! Hope you so sometime soon! Regards from Costa Rica!
I've been wheeling all my life and lived in the filed with the Marines, spending my fair time in the muck. Props to you all! Wheeling hills in the muck are death defying feats and staying positive camping in those conditions is admirable. Great job with the video! Wait...207,000 views with only 8300 Subscribers???
When using max trax if you tie some rope to the trax when youve driven over them you drag them after you they should also shake most of the mud off with the dragging it just help you to not having to walk back after.
Thank you! I'll pass the compliments on to her. She was extremely anxious being by herself but it was amazing to watch her overcome each new experience.
I live in Utah and overland and wheel all over the state. Sorry you had such a dreadful time with the weather and MUD! Please visit again. Leave the past memories behind. I will say that I also have been chased into a motel to get away from the wind and the cold. Don’t give up. Utah is calling you back. 🤗
Great to see the Disco's gettin dirty. It shouldnt take the owners to realise that you do NOT use your brakes on a muddy hill decent. It stops the car doing what its supposed to do. At least everyone had a go and thats what its all about. Cheers from Australia.
Bloody awesome to see you guys getting out and exploring even it shitty conditions and using the LR3 and LR4’s to explore. Can’t wait to get over there in 2021 and check the US out 💪🏼
Pretty cool. More of a movie than a biop. video. I'm glad that it got more technical toward the end. If it hadn't rained, your tire choice would have been great.
WOW some of the muck was like you were in the outback down under and I would have just stay on the pavement . Just saying I hate the muck on my FJ. Great trip! To bad it was so crappy. Thanks for sharing Around Seattle out.
Well done! Great video and narration. Looks like you had a fun adventure. I've owned 3 Discos and wouldn't dream of that for an off the grid trek but to each their own. I subscribed and looking forward to your next go
Thanks for the support! Trust us, we didn't want it to be that type of trek either haha. Weather was forecasted to be clear and 80 all week until a few hours before arrived in Blanding. It then turned quickly after that and were already there. No matter how much you plan, you have to plan for the unexpected.
Offtrak Expeditions you did an excellent job in editing and I’m sure that it was a lot of work. I’m excited for you all and so cool you do it together as a clan. Looks comfortable too although there is such a plethora of camping luxury available these days. I traded my land rovers for a 2019 RAM 1500 with the off road package - I’m getting 20-22mpg hey and 18mog local. Full skid plates from factory and locking diff as well as factory one inch lift. The bed can haul so much more gear and it’s as nice as a new Range Rover inside. Where I live the weather and road conditions are as bad as what you experienced for months of the year. I feel as if this vehicle will meet all my needs superbly. And as much as I looovvve Rovers I’m not missing them when I’m behind the wheel of my RAM. No problems as of yet. I hope to take my daughter out to Utah as my childhood best friend lives there and we could use his house as a home base You should hit Eastern Oregon and Washington out to the deserts and canyon parks. There’s loads of trails and privacy but very different of course from the red stone and clay of Utah Watched the whole video it was entertaining and fun
@@jjames2162 That's awesome and thank you for the kind words! Those new RAMs are amazing. A couple of years ago I would've turned away from looking at a full size truck. Especially for the normal WA/OR type of trails. But the new ones offer a lot for the money. Have you seen MULEs Baja Runner yet? Last year we did the entire Oregon BDR from the coast up to Walla Walla and that was an "Interesting" adventure as well. Be safe out there and maybe we will see you on the trail someday!
@@jjames2162 I have just had a few pickups on test - including the RAM - the Merc X type and the Ford Ranger. Pickups are NOT for me. Leaf springs at the back which LR ditched in 1983! The ride is bad on road and awful offroad. I find an SUV and a trailer much more useful than a pickup!
codprawn I don’t know what to tell you, I have the 2019 new model of the RAM with the Off Road Group and locking differential. It rides like a dream and tons of power. Has the straight 5.7 V8 and I can manage 500 miles out of a tank of 26 gallons. So much room inside, you can use the backseat for a bed and it reclines and is heated! Piano roof reminds me of my Disco. I’ve put 20k miles on it and it never disappoints. Easy to park and live with. I’m considering what I want or could do with the bed which will carry a lot more than any SUV ever will I like it so much I’m toying with buying a second one

Great video! That place is on my bucket list! Finally got a rig, now to make it suitable and reliable and get out there! Gnarly weather, too, dang! Great to see non-jeeps out there killing it!
Great video. My wife and I did White Rim trail last fall and it was amazing. Like you guys said, "we must go back"
Awesome video! Makes me look forward to trying some of this.
Step 1: get 4x4
Step 2: throw tent, food, and shovel in back
Step 3: drive places
that's all its about!!
epic episode
So awesome! Thank you for showing us a bit of Utah.
54:52 I laughed so much. It was the most perfect pose for the school pictures hahaha
This is a dream of mine, thank you
Also I love your dog
This was a great watch, really enjoyed it. Well put together with some good video angles and footage. I'm surprised you have time to document it all on your holiday.
I'm in the UK, Utah is another world and it looks wonderful. I've done the touristy stuff like momument valley which I did in October 7 years ago and I was surprised at how early it went dark and cold it was at night but once the sun got up the next day it was wonderful.
Man ya'll caught some crap weather, beautiful areas, been to some. Good video Thank you
Nice video guys. Thanks for sharing your experiences.
You're welcome and thanks for watching!
Such a cool video! Thanks for sharing your experience! : )
Thanks for watching! Second time in Utah and it's absolutely insane coming from the Cascades to this. I love it.
Gotta love that utah clay! I made coming down off of a mountain impossible for once. Missed two days of work.
Dang!! that would be awful being suck in mud for 2days!!!
Very good decision making. Great adventure !!
Great editing, great music, great video! Cant wait to see more from you guys.
Great videoing and editing 👍 Great to see LRs (and your FJ) being used as intended
Sick movie, proof that you don't need a Land Cruiser, wanna go to Utah now
The Land Rovers could have used a more mud oriented tire such as BF Goodrich · KM · Mud-terrain. In that kind of sticky mud you were going through, you need a tire that is self cleaning which is what you get with a tire with widely spaced aggressive tread. The widely spaced aggressive tread helps to throw off the mud as the tire spins which in turn helps you to gain more traction.
I know when I see people with all terrin tires I just giggle! ;)
1st video of yours I'm watching and 17 seconds in I'm hooked already Haha
Sweet! Hopefully you enjoyed the other 58 minutes just as much haha!
Great editing, great quality, and just an awesome video.
Looking forward to seeing more!
Awesome tip, never thought of that before. We will have to try that, thank you!
Max trax actually come with some orange rope. Haha!
16;10 you got so many things with you, looks lika you were prepared to do around the world trip! Nice people, nice car, nice scenic views, nice job!!!
The Land Rovers are awesome in this video.
Great Video, nice adventure and I need that soundtrack! I have the same red LR3 and felt like i was on the journey as well.. Thanks
Good job on the edit..yeah, and the girl can drive..thanks for sharing.
Cool film!
Can’t wait to get over there in 2021 and check the US out 💪🏼
Yep, that's why I live in Utah!
Amazing!! Simply amazing!!
Nice video... and a new fashion style for shoes !!😅😅😅
Aren't there more videos like these !? Would binge these all day
Great video, amazing scenery, nice music! Really enjoy the content! It looks like yall are having a blast, I'm super jealous!
Thanks for watching! It's just our family sharing our trip, I appreciate you getting it!
Pretty cool. More of a movie than a biop. video. I'm glad that it got more technical toward the end. If it hadn't rained, your tire choice would have been great.
I don't know if you aired-down in the mud, but that isn't usually a good idea.
WOW some of the muck was like you were in the outback down under and I would have just stay on the pavement . Just saying I hate the muck on my FJ. Great trip! To bad it was so crappy. Thanks for sharing Around Seattle out.
Really enjoyed this. Great video!
Those Landies are well capable cars, going through mud like that with those tyres.
I hope to take my daughter out to Utah as my childhood best friend lives there and we could use his house as a home base
You should hit Eastern Oregon and Washington out to the deserts and canyon parks. There’s loads of trails and privacy but very different of course from the red stone and clay of Utah
Watched the whole video it was entertaining and fun
@@jjames2162 That's awesome and thank you for the kind words! Those new RAMs are amazing. A couple of years ago I would've turned away from looking at a full size truck. Especially for the normal WA/OR type of trails. But the new ones offer a lot for the money. Have you seen MULEs Baja Runner yet?
Last year we did the entire Oregon BDR from the coast up to Walla Walla and that was an "Interesting" adventure as well.
Be safe out there and maybe we will see you on the trail someday!

I have just had a few pickups on test - including the RAM - the Merc X type and the Ford Ranger.
I’m considering what I want or could do with the bed which will carry a lot more than any SUV ever will
I like it so much I’m toying with buying a second one
