Thank you for being so respectful and not interrupting the video. It is a very uplifting piece of music that gives me goosebumps when I hear it, as do the Welsh and Scottish anthems.
it's a poem by William Blake. We learned this in primary school in the 70s when we had 'hymn practice' twice a week. I still remember the words to loads of hymns in my 50s although I'm not even Christian!
And of course like, Yeat's 'Second Coming' it is prophecy! And that is why it has never been allowed to become the anthem. Because, just as Hitler refused to bomb England, because he considered them his Arian brothers, as Robert Sepher shows through Trump's bloodline this nationalism is what the Fake Jewish/Mystery School Cabal fears most. Hence the destruction of our flags & border invasions. This is the 'Protocoles of the Learned Elders of Zion's plan for world dominion.

Original poem written by William Blake, set to a melody by Charles Hubert Hastings Parry, and arranged by Sir Edward Elgar for orchestra and choir. I believe it is still sung at the beginning of every meeting of The Women's Institute (known by the nickname as Jam and Jerusalem) Oh, the "Indoor Stadium" you mentioned was the Royal Albert Hall, built from some of the proceeds of the Great Exhibition of 1851.
Elgar's orchestration is from 1922 (after Parry had died) and was made for the Leeds Festival. Parry's own orchestration is for smaller orchestra and was made for the Suffrage Demonstration Concert in March 1918. Parry was Oxford Professor of Music and Director of the Royal College of Music. He was very left-leaning and quite opposed to 'over-the-top' patriotism - as was William Blake, I suspect.
Thank you, I was wondering if Elgar wrote the music? Not really, but involved . I always thought this was a hymn when we would sing it in my youth. So emotional and perfect for the Albert Hall. I hope they don't go woke and continue singing.

I'm Welsh too, and I totally agree.
I was born in England, grew up in Wales, and now live in Denmark. Jerusalem is up there with the Welsh national anthem "Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau" and the Danish "I Danmark er jeg født" (In Denmark I was born) - all of them make me feel a pride (for want of a better word) in the relevant country.
Thanks McJibbin. We can't say we are proud of our heritage without being attacked so it means a lot to hear someone else say it for us!
Just say it mate don’t worry about the people like that
Well said

That "stadium" you referred to is The Royal Albert Hall in London where "The Proms" are held & famous for "The Last Night of the Proms" where a number of patriotic & well known songs are sung by the "promenaders" at the conclusion of the last Concert of the season. The Hall itself holds around 5,500 & another 45000 or so may attend in nearby Hyde Park in the open air.
I knew there was a reason I liked you, mate :) We have been undermined and poisoned from within for the past generation and sometimes a great reminder of our roots is what we need to recharge our sense of hope.
Really well said.
I second that.
Very well put.
Absolutely

Scotland has their own national anthem, Wales has their own national anthem, Northern Ireland has their own national anthem, but England does not have a national anthem. Why won't the powers that be allow England to have Jerusalem as its national anthem is beyond me? And before anybody says England has God Save the King as its national anthem, that is the anthem of Great Britain, not England.
actually no, england has conquered or absorbed wales ,scotland and ireland so the national anthem is god save the king (of England) they should really do a history lesson in the daily mail
N Ireland play god save the king 🥱
Maybe the powers that be are scared of English Nationism perhaps
Northern Ireland's anthem is God Save the King.
since 2010 this has been Englands anthem, at least at the commonwealth games an event in which the home nations have seperate representation, whenever an english athlete wins gold jerusalem is played during the medal ceremony, for the welsh it's land of my fathers, the scots oh flower of scotland and northern ireland contarary to what people think do have there own anthem its called londonderry nights although most people know it better as danny boy, for me this should be adapted across all sports and events where the home nations are represented individually as jerusalem is far more emotive and patriotically moving than us asking god to save some 70 year old millionaire
I’m an American Anglophile. It started with the movie, The Adventures of Robin Hood and grew with The Beatles, Monty Python and later with Shakespeare and Tolkien. I think of British history as pre-American history. I’m not religious and I’m not a Brit but Jerusalem gives me both chills and tears, especially when sung by a congregation.
My English stepfather lived abroad but cried every time this played. He went home to live in the green and pleasant land. He was blessed to come home.

Yup!
Hymn practice. Aagghh!!! A total waste of time.

Hi Connor. I went to an all boys school and we sang this in morning assembly at least once a week. Although I'm pretty sure that 400 pre-and post-pubescent boys with Northern accents sounded nothing like the soprano in the video! By the way, I think the "indoor stadium" you referred to is The Royal Albert Hall in London ... home to the annual season of 'Promenade Concerts'.
Born in Northern Ireland, Son of an England born father, grandson and great grandson of grandfathers who volunteered and fought both the Kaiser and the fuhrer. My blood lays claim to the heritage of that land and I feel deep pride in belonging to the history and people of England and Britain. Jerusalem always brings to mind the speech from Richard II (Act 2 Scene 1);
This royal throne of kings, this scepter'd isle,
This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars,
This other Eden, demi-paradise,
This fortress built by Nature for herself
Against infection and the hand of war,
This happy breed of men, this little world,
This precious stone set in the silver sea,
Which serves it in the office of a wall,
Or as a moat defensive to a house,
Against the envy of less happier lands,
This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England,
By Francis Bacon.
Oh for England and St George,
Rise up and stand with Thee.
Fight, deliver a great Victory.
Oh for England and St George.
Cry God for Harry, England and St. George!
yes, The Greek St George who never even set foot on English soil. Not once. England: the county made up of Romans, Normans, Vikings, Saxons etc..

It's a great song/hymn but that version is a bit weedy .... definitely needs a big sound, a choir, a big crowd
Have to agree, a strong male voice choir is needed to do it justice.

Original poem written by William Blake, set to a melody by Charles Hubert Hastings Parry, and arranged by Sir Edward Elgar for orchestra and choir. I believe it is still sung at the beginning of every meeting of The Women's Institute (known by the nickname as Jam and Jerusalem)
Oh, the "Indoor Stadium" you mentioned was the Royal Albert Hall, built from some of the proceeds of the Great Exhibition of 1851.
@@pabmusic1 I know they were done years apart but he version normally sung is to the Elgar backing.
@@wrorchestra1 Yes - because it's for very big orchestra, which is great for the Albert Hall.
Thank you, I was wondering if Elgar wrote the music? Not really, but involved . I always thought this was a hymn when we would sing it in my youth. So emotional and perfect for the Albert Hall. I hope they don't go woke and continue singing.
Not at my WI but I know many WIs still do!

England doesn't have an official anthem, though this song, "Land of Hope and Glory", and "I vow to thee my country" are usually regarded as the three closest songs to one. "And did those feet in ancient time" is a poem by William Blake around 1800. Today it is best known as the hymn "Jerusalem", with music written by Sir Hubert Parry in 1916. Indeed, it should be watched as performed as part of the Last Night of the Proms - indeed magical.
