White Mountains Fall Hiking Overnight | 2 Dudes, a Mountain, and a Pond

- Went up to New Hampshire as I typically do every year on this weekend. The intention was to do a 4 day hike during the prime fall foliage change. Made a last minute decision to change that up due to iffy weather and also I'd be starting a new job the day after I got back. Didn't want to be cutting it close so decided on a much more relaxed pace shorter mountain view hike and a easy walk in and camp. Ended up be a great and enjoyable choice.
We ended up seeing pretty limited people once we split off to the west to hit South Doublehead and ended up having the Mountain Pond Shelter all to ourselves. There also appeared to be a super moon we got to watch rise over the woods and light the night sky like it was day time.

Please note that I am not recommending any of the gear seen in any of my videos. The gear I use is what I have found works best for me at the time period I am using it. I have come to these gear choices through vast levels of trial, error, and experimenting with gear out on trail.
Gear, clothing, footwear, etc. are not one style works for all. Do as much research as you can, try out things in person if able, and make the best informed purchase decision for YOU. Do not buy gear just because it worked for, was showcased by, or recommended by someone on RUclips

During the pandemic I was leaving trail and summit names out of many of my videos due to issues with massive overcrowding on the trail, as well as, issues in regards to what I would consider uneducated or irresponsible hiker behavior. The most notable of which was trash, and human waste / toilet paper I was finding directly on, or just off, trail. I kept some of the trail and location names in this video. If you are using this video for planning purposes, please use the trail responsibly and try to follow leave no trace principles. It only takes one person not doing so to ruin it for everyone.
If you are a newer hiker please watch this video before heading out on trail: ruclips.net/video/dhd7E4rGIwA/видео.html
Here is an article about the issue with trash and human waste specifically in the Whites www.nhpr.org/post/trouble-trails-forest-service-grapples-crowds-trash-and-human-waste#stream/0

Those still photos came out great!
More food for my soul. I never miss a journey along with you. Beautiful.
Great to see another video, especially in the Whites. Nicely done.
Can’t wait!😊
Great beer choice !
Pacho mentioned it on the way up and hyped it up. I am not a huge beer guy but this really lived up to the hype haha
Very nice vlog, Chris. Especially the scenes of the pond on The Next Day and your choice of piano music to accompany them. Really nice.
just gorgeous
As always Chris, thanks for bringing us on your adventures.
The still pictures at the end of the video were great… but, best of all were your parting words… maybe I’ll never see you! Too funny…. I’am fairly confident that at some point, I’ll see you in the backcountry.
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing, and my dogs enjoyed it as well!
I’ve watched all of your beautiful videos, and this one is my favorite.
Amazing hike Chris! Love your filming!! 🌷🌷🌷
Very nice relaxing trip 👍. Nice luxury camp items. Enjoyed the music and scenery.
Just found your channel Chris. We are locals of the White Mountains in Lincoln. I'm surprised RUclips has never suggested our channels to eachother as a result. Just saying hello and beautiful content. Love your music choices too. What a fall we're having!

Beautiful scenery! Loved seeing that, and the music was well suited to the video, IMHO!
Thanks Bob!
Very good video and I love it so much 👍🏻👍🏻
That scenery looked prime for the leaf peepers! Great video, very chill! 👍 I need to get back there to experience the Whites in that type of weather! Thanks for sharing! Just subscribed!
Gorgeous
Lovely little pond. Hiked around it once at dusk. Glad you seemed to have it to yourselves. 🙂
Ya only really saw other people the next morning walking around the rest of the loop, was pretty great
1. Loved the soundtrack! 2. Loved your camp furniture. 3. Rumor has it there was once a trail from Mountain Pond to Doublehead and traces still exist. 4. Beautiful moon over the pond. We watched the Perseids there years ago. 5. Mountain Pond is Sawyer Pond without the partying drunks 🥴!
We were saying on top of south doublehead how we should try to bushwhack down to the pond haha. And the moon was HUGE when it rose. Not sure if a super moon but the whole forest was lit up like almost sunny out for most of the night, and yes much preferred this location to Sawyer haha
I would love to hear of your success with your viewer support for the channel. I am trying to figure that out myself. Getting out every weekend is getting expensive.
Hello from Scarborough Maine .. my favorite time of the year.. thanks for taking us along.
Thanks for watching Todd!
You were there at the peak in my opinion. All those leaves will be falling soon. This was a great hike with lots of beauty. Thanks for sharing. John from MI
The colors were definitely popping. I think pretty big rain storm rolling through Friday will probably knock a lot of it out
This is it
Fantastic trail and overall beautiful vide my friend! Forest is majestic, beautiful b-roll shots! 🔥🔥
Hi Chris, such a huge fan. Wanted to pick your experience brain. I’ve been getting my backpacking setup put together and getting excited for trips with and without my doggo, but the last couple nights I’ve been kept up thinking about bear danger in the whites and what the likelihood of an encounter would be and just how to handle the nerves around that side of being in the woods so much. Any thoughts and advice is appreciated. You’re the GOAT!
Thanks for sharing. Good luck with your new gig!!
Appreciate that Gerad. Looking forward to it!
Sleeping on a zlite on a shelter floor?! You are tougher than I am!
I forgot the xlite in the car and had no intention on going back for it. I would've slept on the wood if I had to 😂
As always, great video. The music fit the relaxing mood of your hike.
Thanks! Appreciate it as always!
Fantastic foliage! I love that you go on outings that are very rewarding without necessarily having tons of miles or tons of vert.
Wasn't familiar with this area -- will check it out!
I am trying to find trails like this as the elevation gain is doing a number on my knees. I am hoping to be able to put out videos of this quality. I love his style.
Last weekend, I did the Welch-Dickey loop. The views were amazing, the color had exploded, but the scrambles up the rock slabs were nuts.
Thanks for another well done and enjoyable video Chris. Love your approach to the craft and to the trail! I'm starting my end of season trip in the Whites tomorrow, and watching your trip put me even more in the mood. Can't wait to get out there. I'll be in the Wild River Wilderness, which I first explored after seeing in one of your earlier videos. Thanks for that lead too. Best of luck with the new gig, and hope to run into you on the trail some time.
Wild River Wilderness! You are truly blessed. And the weather is supposed to be good.
Wild River should be a great time in this weather. Enjoy it!
I assume this is near Mount Eastman?
Doubleheads and the Pond are very close to Eastman. I believe in the later 2nd day pond shot you can see both Eastman and one of the Baldfaces
It's a nice alternative way to Eastman. There's a reason that road is named Slippery Brook Road. Go a little bit beyond the Mountain Pond Trailhead and you can pick up the other end of the Slippery Brook Trail. A more mellow approach than from 113 (although Evans Notch is one of my favorite places).
Hi Chris
Old timer here planning my thur hike for the future. Would you recommend a camp chair on a thru hike. Camp chairs have gotten really light. I would prefer not to sit on the ground all the time. A chair would make my back and knees happy. Your thoughts? I think the camp in this video might a little big.
I personally wouldnt bring one, would rather just look for a log or rock to sit on but to each their own
May I ask the soundtrack?
Morning Light - The light the heat
Cranberry Flats - Jesse Brown
A Deeper Magic - Alstad
Escapement - Steven Gutheinz
Keeper - Jacob Lavallee
I think this is accurate
