I still prefer Arri how it handle harsh lighting (better dynamic range) and colors and wide dynamic range shadows and brighter areas of the image is far better
yes, the skin tone is warmer than the Arri. The Venice also has more contrast. The Alexa has slightly more dynamic range can be seen in the Macbeth Color chart.
Look completely the same in the LOG image LOL. At the end of the day, sensor size matters less and pixel size matter more for these. Medium format 4 megapixel sensor when?
Out of the box colors only matter if you don't run through a grade.. anyone using a high end cinema camera SHOULD be grading and not relying on manufacture rec709 color... once the image of any color is in log and you grade you can make it look anyway you want... this is my biggest gripe with people who get boners on factory color science... it doesn't matter
It's strange that some comments say that Sony has a better dr, highlights and a finer skin gradient, and some say the same for Arri? Sony has more details in the highlights in the window, but its dark parts are underexposed compared to Arri, and Arri could have been -0.3ev and still have more details than Sony. Sony image is also too green, which may be more suitable for sci-fi, horror and action movies, but I prefer more Arri natural colors.
They’re both solid cameras, But:🤔 If I’m going for a modern/contemporary futuristic style project ima go with the Sony But if I’m going for a dreamy immersive heavily aesthetically driven film ima go with the Arri
So funny that you say this because we shot two shorts. One futuristic and the other was about dreams. And we used the Sony for the futuristic one and the Arri for the dreamy one.
@@ortegacinema wow that is crazy conformation I just be throwing my opinion all over the internet not thinking it would stick but thanks for sharing that as a professional!
lens flare was intentional. I used the same set up to do full-frame lens tests to see how well each one can handle flare. In case you have not seen it, it's also on this channel.
Looks like the Venice has more detail in highlights. The Arri has more in shadows. The Venice looks more saturated and looks cleaner in the background.
Which one looks better is dependent on what kind of visuals you're going for in a project. Venice is sharp and can be stark if used with the Zeiss. Great for product shots, FX work, sci-fi, etc. While the Alexa renders creamy natural skin tones, requires less light as you can see on the shadows and has a more organic look which is great for narratives.
Hi Mark Pommett, thanks for your reply. In my experience though, the Venice is sharper, stark in fact when used with the Arri/Zeiss lenses without filtration. I prefer to use it with Cooke lenses which nicely balances its ultra sharpness and contrast. The Alexa sees more in the shadow area (as seen on the right bottom of the frame and the right cheek of the subject) requiring less fill light and has creamier skin tones.
What are these types of "tests" show that is off any use? If you shoot with any of these cameras, you are likley shooting log and grade. Any color difference is irrelevant since you create a lut to match, you can use it to get a look that is totally different than any of the tests here etc. Completely pointless video. With all the things one can test and do with these two cameras, this is the "test" you chose to do? Point and shoot and apply generic lut. The end. lol Wow.

Im going to be renting a few Arri Alexa's soon hence how I creeped onto this video, but i'm more wanting that grip head coffee table now lol.
I didn't even notice that 🤣🤣 Now I want one too.
Only filmmakers will appreciate that table. My wife thinks it's ugly . 😆
Now I want a comparison of the Alexa 35 and the Venice 2
Why choose ARRI's native ISO 800 and not SONY's 500?
The Venice has a nicer gradient on the skin/face. Also appears to have more dynamice range.

@@dantonwieneke_cinematographer Agreed - re the Arri having more dynamic range.
Any chance there's a 4K version of this somewhere?
at the moment, only in the editing workstation
:-( Well I'd love to see more (resolution and footage). It's definitely close, just different looks for different applications maybe.
i want both
Me too brother....me too

They both look superb. ARRi has real competition 😬
I sensed that too from Arri in their product launch events.
It's strange that some comments say that Sony has a better dr, highlights and a finer skin gradient, and some say the same for Arri?

Just like the first-gen Alexa, new Alexa still manages to have a more 35mm Kodak stock feel than its competitors.
that's just a simple white balance adjustment..
probably because Venice native ISO is 500. So 800 on Venice is going to allow for more detail in highlights and less in shadows vs its native ISO.
Why do they look so different?
Every manufacturer has their own look. Each with a different color space, dynamic range, etc.

The Sony Venice any day.
Nop
LOL, maybe if you shoot Dead man walking :) :)
normally i would go with the alexa, and this is the alexa LF, but imma have to go with the Venice on this one
@@vladimirtalijan, more than Dead Man Walking. James Cameron already used it for Avatar 2 and Avatar 3. Also Top Gun: Maverick
Arri Alexa EV classic any day also for the price! Better cinematic , better skin tones, a lot better light falloff a lot better price!
omg slight difference in colors
Comparing these on RUclips...

arri...
Arri looks natural and Venice looks very artificial.
For the first time, I'm gonna say sony was way better
Alexa look like Minecraft xddd Venice its better,\... or which one looks better? sorry i have a 720p monitor

Sony
Arri has better lighting but Sony Has The most Cleanest Lighting I've ever seen
🤔
