Evernote roughly doubbling the price - I see this as a HUGE damage of my trust. I feel felt hostage from Evernote. And even if it might be costly for me in terms of time and money:
I WILL LEAVE EVERNOTE.

I've been with Evernote first, then Notion (tired of lag, also poor image management), then OneNote (like how fast it is), finally I'm now with UpNote extremely well-made application. Unbelievably cheap, I encourage you to give it a serious try. I like how clean are my stuff now 👌
how is upnote with image management?
I was pretty happy when I found free evernote in 2015, and could practically write a note either from my mobile and retrieve in laptop or write on laptop and retrieve on mobile. But now it keeps bugging me with upgrade and buy subscription pop ups. It has even stopped me from making any more notes! This vlog is a boon. I will try a new free version of any of those suggested here! Thanks 🙂
1) If you are selecting a new tool, make sure you understand if you can get your data out in a manner that you are comfortable with. To me, this is where Evernote falls down. 2a) I love Bear notes. It has a built in feature to import Evernote ENEX files. Also, I have been testing Bear ver 2.0 and it is a nice update. 2b) I'm surprised that Craft was not listed in this video. Considering what you get, it is much more affordable than Evernote - only ⅓ the cost. LASTLY - both Bear & Craft allow you to get your data out in multiple data formats in order to take it anywhere!
Hi, you got my attention there with those two apps: would you care to go in a little more detail about how Craft & Bear differ or have similarities between them? Thx for the help, i'm actually considering migrating all of my 11,000+ notes for the very first time in years so i'm actually quite nervous. Specially when it comes to security, privacy of the content & basic performance reliability... i really don't want to mess it up since it's a big data of notes to migrate all into.

Having tried most of these, Notejoy is my top recommendation. Beautiful, nested folders, drag & drop, being actively developed. It's handling of video is superb. I do also like UpNote and Nimbus. Thanks Francesco
With Notejoy, are you able to color-code tags? Used to be able to on EN, not anymore.
I've used Evernote since 2009, but with the price increases and features for Personal use taken away, I'm starting to consider other options. I don't need task management, calendars or project management garbage, so I guess my needs are simpler. I would like a web clipper feature, I use it a lot. I'm on Windows, so that eliminates all the Mac/IOS apps. I don't really like Notion. I'd like to be able to import my Evernote data and have a backup option as well as being able to use it on multiple devices. Seems looking for a replacement is going to be a long slog. :-/
totally agreed. For the basic needs, I think we two have the same. And sadly,I haven't found a replacement for Evernote so far
I have been a happy Evernote user since 2009, but lately the pressure to switch to a paid account, and the increasing limitation for the free account, has been obnoxious. I am now familiarizing with a few alternative to move on.
UpNote is an alternative to consider because datas is saved in local drive (md files). An essential feature for me.
UpNote is great and the best in Class to replace Evernote style note application
He covered it here but missed that it has some of the best importing of Evernote files. Very surprised at how fast and accurate it is.
Great video. I have been using Onenote for work and Upnote for personal. I really like Upnote and bought the lifetime membership. So far so good.

Thank you for your review here of alternatives to Evernote. With their recent shift in ownership and pricing increases, I am in the market for an alternative solution but I really only use evernote as a digital filing cabinet, to store statements, documents, PDFs, web clippings etc. and much less a need for actual note taking, tasks or reminders. Might you be able to suggest an alternative that does a great job to store, organize and find documents?
Evernote syncing has NEVER been a problem with me. Subscriber since 2008. I use it as a smart file cabinet. Tried Amplenote for a bit but AN took freaking forever to sync with drafts.
One item that Nimbus has that Evernote does not have is the ability to create sub folders. Probably not a game changer for most people but for me this is very important and it does not get mentioned much . I can't use Evernote for that reason and hence Nimbus is strong option
I am looking for something where I can input text notes and paste images into which is less fidgety than word as currently I have to wrap images and texts and everytime i paste a new one, I have to augment the old ones into the positions that they have moved from. What should I go for?
i really don't know where to migrate into, i'm desperate :( i've got over 11,000 notes , which one works similar to EN as in accepting audio files, images, video links, scanning docs, etc. all types of formats & which ones permits easy migration (import & exporting options)
This video hasn’t aged well. I must admit that I also was very wary about the acquisition of Evernote by Bending Spoons. But it turned out for the best and may have been the best thing that happened to our favorite note taking app. Evernote is now almost reaching adult age and Bending Spoons dealt with the growing pains . I am glad I stayed the course and keep having Evernote a central place in my digital life.
I looked at many alternatives to Evernote and never switched because they always lacked something. After the closing of the US headquarters, I do get worried and look around again. So thanks for the video (and others).
Is there a reason that DEVONthink doesn't show up anymore? In the past™, the app was often mentioned as an alternative.
The problem with these tools is not only the functionality you get but also and maybe more important, will the tool be around for the next 10 years or so. You don't want to switch every few years with thousands of notes in your Evernote. Especially none of these tools can export the notes to a standard format like xml or something like it and also there are no import options for an exported file in a standard format. Of course the tools want to tie you to the tool and even lock you in. But the ability to export too and import from a standard format file would be a deal breaker for me. Pity Evernote was not sold to Microsoft, Google or Apple. Than you would know for sure it would be around for a long time to come.
I want something that I can install on my PC and is not a subscription.
I transitioned from Evernote to Apple, and the switch has proven to be incredibly beneficial. By solely utilizing Apple's native applications, I have successfully resolved all the issues I previously encountered. Remarkably, even when it comes to organizing and connecting notes, I have discovered a suitable solution within Apple's suite of tools. Regrettably, many individuals tend to overlook the exceptional capabilities that Apple provides for everyday tasks on their platform.

I'm happy with Bear and Notion.
IMO Amplenote is currently the best thing out there if you want to combine notes, tasks (usually needing context in notes), and a visual planner (calendar) in the same app.
I'm always looking for alternatives. I left Evernote twice, because the grass is greener on the other side. Of course I came back. Evernote is the gold standard for a reason. The price is certainly a factor, but more important is the productivity/price ratio, which is unmatched by other note taking apps.
Very suprised to see the Obsidian screen recording showing the source mode... live preview has been out for a long time and that seems a little misleading with what the experience looks like, especially with the aethetic update to core as well changing the look.
The recent bookmarks plugin added much more flexible file/search/folder organization which many evernote users could use.
Of course I am biased 😆

its the sync with my android phone that had me cancel my subscription. if it was fixed I’d be happy to pay full price for the app. i just cant get my photos to show on a consistent basis.

I’ve had Evernote for well over a decade so I’m nervous to change. Does anyone know if there is an alternative that also connects with a Fujitsu scansnap? I use that feature multiple times a week to scan documents into Evernote.

Enough is enough! I'm incredibly disappointed with EN. EN continues to promise and underdeliver in fundamental areas. Now, a $15/mo subscription fee is being identified as the recovery plan. $15!?! Per month?!? This velocity in price increases is absurd! This is another version of companies moving from a purchase model to a subscription model with a increase squeeze each time they get hungry for revenue. An extreme example is similar to Tesla promising FSD and raising the price with undelivered promises. After more than 15 years with the EN, I'll take the exit ramp.

I'm looking for a notetaking app that has tagging like Evernote (to allow multiple tags, which OneNote doesn't really do), web clipper, links within notes, PDFs and Word documents, E-mail to Evernote, and of course, great searching (which OneNote doesn't have). Which should I choose? From this video, maybe Nimbus Notes or UpNote?
Well, UpNote won't work for me because it won't import from Evernote. It doesn't have Premium in the Windows version, doesn't allow any Evernote import in the free version, and then, won't import anything more than 20 MB; all my Evernote notebooks are more than 20 MB.

I was sad to see that while the Craft icon is visible in the poster, it wasn’t discussed at all.
That is the big problem with private companies. From one day to another they decide to change conditions and destroy all the work of million of people. This has to be regulated. Now, imagine that tomorrow Google decides to change all to pay-plans.. millions of gmail accounts would be affected.

Could you perhaps make a extensive video about nimubs Notes? As far as I know you can export your data from Evernote and IMPORT them into Notes. So this seems to be a great way to migrate from Evernote (I won't forgive a company which tries to hold me hostage while doubling the price).

I need to understand how PKM apps are alternatives to Evernote? How do you compare an app that has a vast ecosystem, connects with everything, and is available on all platforms with excellent mobile apps. The only natural alternative to Evernote is Onenote. All the rest need to catch up. At the moment, Evernote is still the leading note app, and I have tried many of them. At first glance, all apps are promising, but they all measure when you start to collect and have massive data in the long run. Don't forget that Evernote is 10 years plus, and people have collected tons of data, which shows that this app is very reliable! So please show us real apps that work in the long run and not apps that I need to play with all day so they will work as I wish.
Sincerely? UpNote is the best one, imo. It's cheap, complete in a way that's not overwhelming, you can have it on iPhone, iPad, Mac, Windows and Linux, and it syncs flawlessly.

Anyone know of a tool that would read Evernote notes and export them in a friendly format?
UpNote has an Import function from Evernote .enex files. It worked well for my import (but I don't have extensive Evernotes (such as Calendar-tasks, etc), just notes witḣ images, tables)
Forgot to mention some difficulties: note links were lost (or unusable as they refered back to Evernote).
Joplin also has an Import from Evernote.
What about Joplin and Notesnook? They weren't even mentioned.

The price is not the most important thing. Evernote has different subscription prices for different regions. I in Poland pay cheaper than in the US. Nimbus has one price for everyone. For me, Nimbus is 3 times more expensive than Evernote after the increase. Or maybe I am wrong?

We can't compare Evernote to anything. Each tool has its specialties. For example: I use Microsoft 365 at my company. The entire team is integrated with Planner, Teams, Onenote and Outlook. These tools give us integration in everything. There is no need for any other external. Sometimes we use Trello for specific matters. I use Evernote for personal matters, archiving information ONLY MINE. That's all!. In Evernote I can save all my passwords so that I enter the note's password and this note is hidden, without a trace. In Onenote I can't do this.
We love Nimbus, never look back to Evernote.

Notesnook is a great alternative. Open source, end to end encryption and most privacy focused among them. And also cheaper.

Going to be like all the other people whining that their fave app isn't mentioned. "Surprised Google Keep wasn't mentioned" Free does enough for what 99.9% of normal people need! The amount of effort people put into watching these productive channels they could actually spend being productive🤣
Google Keep notes is so bare and it's barely a note taker.
Really annoying how Keep reorders checkbox items when you check them complete. You also can't mix text lines with checkbox items. Overall in so many ways it is too limited and basic.
Google Keep is free for a good reason
