Hi John, Where Did you download Drivers for Top 3000 Programmer?
its good to have vids like this. my friend kevin who owns a store up here in northern arizona. been wanting to make atleast a rom hack for him to give back to him something for being a good friend, but now hopefully by xmas i can make him a physical game. thanks john.
John, your one of the few that looks ke to share this type of information. awesome 😎
Just wanted to say very informative and well presented, this video may be from 2017 but was the most helpful video I’ve found on the web so far!
John. this was excellent - You know your stuff when it comes to game boards! I learned way more than I was expecting to when I watched this!
Hey John. Just watched your Intro Video on Video Labs and your Channel Trailer. Your description sure brings back some memories of games gone buy. Look forward to the next 8 weeks with everyone and Tim's Team.
I've been soldering for years and I love using a solder sucker the most. That combined with a desoldering wick is more than ample, just learn proper technique and be patient and you're more than set. I've done numerous RES RGB mods and removes PPU chips flawlessly with this technique. Not saying a desoldering gun is obsolete, just trying to state that a desoldering pump is NOT horrible by any means.
Heat guns are also great for heat shrink. Sure, you've usually got your soldering iron out anyway when you're using the stuff, but what about when you're just splicing a couple of wires together? You don't need to get the soldering iron out or wait for it to get up to operating temperature: just grab the heat gun.
So stoked to see an updated video for 2017. Would love to see some info for making gameboy repros - I can find carts online, but never any of the supplies used to make them!
The 3.8mm is not for systems. That's the 4.5mm one (NES-101, SNS-001, SNS-101, SHVC-001, AV Famicom, Virtual Boy, N64c GameCube, etc). The 4.5 is used for Genesis carts though. I forget which size TurboGrafx-16/PC Engine uses but that's where the "NEC External Line Head" name comes from for GameBits.
За эти ролики я выражаю отдельную безграничную благодарность автору. Долгой жизни и творческого успеха!
Thank you John for the information contained in the video. This is how I found out about you a couple years back. I wanna try my hand at making nes and snes games for my collection. Some games are just way to expensive to justify the cost so this gives me a way to make and play them on the original consoles.
No mention of the stickers? Any cheaper place to get the n64 boards?
Major retro gamer points for the Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom picture.
Big fan of the channel! 4. Questions: 1. How do you know what EPROM specific you need to replace the ROM in a cart? Say - Bases Loaded for NES. 2. How do you know if you need to do "wiring" to make it work? 3. Do you need to buy 2 Eproms per cart? 4. Where do you buy Eproms? I know this is a lot but you got me intrigued for a while now. I feel like I want to try it.
Never mind. I figured it out.
Cool video! I always wanted to get familiar with the soldering iron for things like fixing capicitors on gamegears and stuff
Nice video John. I also love make Repros. It's like an addiction for me hehe.
I've got that soldering iron. I got it off of Amazon. It works great.
Thank you!!!! I have been looking for a video like this for a while.
Great video John! Lots of info! Maybe down the road I could make my own? Nah Jake and ZeroShift can do that for me :)
I recently bought a kit with a braided solder wick that pulls the melted solder into it via capillary action. I bought it because need to replace the power input jack on my SNES. The plastic inside the plug broke apart.
Thinking about buying the top3000 or 3100 or the gq-4x4 but not heard good things about the converter board, have you had a chance to use it yet? I know the gq-4x4 software is easier to use but which hardware would you recommend. Thanks for the cool content.
This was so incredibly helpful, thank you!
Any plans to come out to NY for Retro Game Con?
How is the thickness on those new PCBs? Thicker than the originals or did they make them the correct thickness?
What genesis boards have the same pcb thickness as originals?
I have seen more than a few people complaining about games that are too thick. I have noticed this problem on newly manufactured SNES repros. I returned those games.
I love my Genesis far more than any other console I own. I risk nothing with it.
I like the idea of sacrificing a game to achieve exact thickness, but these carts are 25-31 years old now. I like to think they'll last another 30 at least. 50 ideally. But that could be totally wrong. So now I search for what ever has EXACT thickness.
I have a top3000 where the top3000 will not turn on Is not recognized by the computer and power led will not turn on with usb or ac adapter. Do you know about any fix or do I just need to buy a new one?
Wait, do you mean I could just get a rom and programm it onto the eprom chip, solder it onto the pcb, put that into a custom case and have a shiny brand new nes or snes game to have as a backup to play and keep the originals in their boxes?
Hi John!! How are you? My name is Jonny. I have a question: My nes console Nintendo nes original have a problem with game. I have super Mario bross cartridge. The console plug with s-video jack yellow + red cable. The problem is: the mushrooms come in half white. The problem is the nintendo or super mario cartridge? Let me know. Thank you. Best regards. Jonny 😁😉
Thanks for this! Been waiting for it! I kinda hate bothering you with these questions lol
what are those framed things on your wall? they look like they have depth or something
Great video looking forward to the new n64 repro video :)
Hey John, can you hack a DOS game and flash it to a NES cart and have it be playable on a NES console? (or is it easy to go cross-platform in general? - Genesis game to NES, 2600 game to NES, etc)?
Why EPROM? No flash alternative, or EEPROM?
Hi John great channel! was hoping you might be able to help me... if i buy a NTSE repro off Ali express and took the board out of the cart and put it in a PAL cart would it work on my pal console? I want to buy some N64 repros but can only find NTSE versions, any advice would be greatly appreciated ;)
John. Great video. I'm actually on the hunt for some repo Master System cases without any luck. Any ideas?
Have you ever done a cross system repro? I would love to do a Genesis to NES game...anthis is only my opinion...the only good game on Genesis...Shadowrun...I would like to play it on my NES
Hey John, do you have any safety tips for using leaded solder at home? Have you tried lead free? I don't have kids but I do have pets and am a bit concerned taking up soldering at home. Thanks!
Aside from the heat issues, ventilation is very important. Be safe Dude, and happy hacking.
What Brad said, ventilation is key. I have a ceiling fan above me which helps, but wouldn't hurt to get a mask or rebreather. I know a few who use those.
Thanks for the responses guys. I guess I am more worried about the use of lead at home and lead dust
Hey John, do you need the eeprom eraser or will using the programmer just overwrite the eeprom?
Hey Riggs :)
Any idea how to get the Top 3000 to work on a windows 10 machine? I bought the GQ 4x4 a year ago and it is completely unable to write M27C160 EPROMS due to an error that MCU mall cannot/won't fix. I was thinking I might need to bite the bullet and get another programmer like the Top 3000, but I want to make sure it will work first. Thank you so much!
John if I send you a bunch of Famicom games as payment for you to keep, and a label-less SNES Cart, I believe it's the 6 Scope, will you put a Repro or Homebrew on it for me? Something like Super Boss Gaiden would be great but anything you want to do I'll be happy with, I'll pay the postage to, it'd need to be a PAL Rom as I am in the UK, if you fancy doing it let me know the postage cost and I'll post the stuff out to you, are you still at the same address on this video description?
1:31 for the part where he first mentions SEGA
Hey Riggs! Do you modify consoles or are you sticking to repros and other great stuff. #Shout out from Norway.
Riggs is the man!
Hi, I love your videos. I wonder if you could make a video about the service cartridges for super nintendo (burn-in test cart), I have not seen on youtube but only shows the operation but the construction of one would be very interesting.
Great overview John!
Can I use a Programmer K150 to make repros. They cost like $10 from china.
Hi John, PRG-113 True USB Willem GQ brand GQ-4X V4 (GQ-4X4)... make repros NES, SNES and N64 games?
this is stuff im really into. i like using tools. and making stuff. so stuff like this i would have fun doing
Good video
Thank You !
@BromiusGaming
& OdebGaming
Hi John, is it possible to record 29l3211 or 29f033 on Top3000? Thank you bro!
I loved the video and I was wondering if you can remake your nes repro video again
Great video... new sub here!
Been looking into making a few repros and your video has great info for doing that.
With the muramasa boards do you still need to do the wiring
No rewiring needed on new boards :)
joh, i have a psp that was modded and ever since it is hit and miss to play umd's so id like to get it back to factory, what do i do.....fellow washingtonian here centralia
Kenneth PECK Any modded psp can still play umd games
i have umd games and they wont play......if i restart a few times they will
is 22 wire gauge ok to use for repros?
sadly, I cannot find transparent cartridge shells for super famicom or PAL SNES
thanks so much ive always wanted to play metroid on official hardware but too expensive
You should make a video on how you store / organize all of this :)
If this is really supposed to be a 2017 update then you should mention that the bulb one is officially worthless after your tip wears out now that Radio Shack has closed down. :( The tips wear out fast so you'll only get a few repros done before it gets ruined. :(
For sure! It's 2017 and it's still the desoldering gun I use :) Maybe someone will find one used or something. Never mind what I use, any desoldering gun is fine.
What is the 16 bit eprom adapter for?
you sir, earned a sub
I never do this, but it's good info for a collector like me. :)
A great way to find a fake is to know how to fake one.
Word. And Thanks!
Aren't there legal consequences with nintendo for selling the repros?
Does anyone know if a Genesis repro of SF2 special champion edition with the color + audio hack is possible?
Can you use a solder wick to desolder?
Is there a way to make gameboy (advance) repros?
The easiest way is to buy them cheap from AliExpress. I think they're flash carts.
GBA ROMs work similar to N64 ROMs, they are completely custom so you are not able to just replace the ROM like on a NES or SNES game.
Unless someone starts making new boards your only real option are the Chinese carts
background music name please
30K subs buddy ^^ been a fan since day one.
Do all of your videos translate the same onto PAL cartridges?
Really interested in this too! I've been thinking about making some NES repros and I am wondering if a Japanese exclusive will work on my PAL nes.
Great video John. How about a tutorial for SNES games above 16 Mbits? Keep going
Hey John! I love your videos.
What's the background electro track?
Greetings from Thailand.
Nice video but may I suggest something? Maybe lower down the background music a bit. Thanks.
Ditto that, the background music is too loud. Info is good.
I lit your country music award on fire.
I saw a video where you made a shovel knight nes cart, can you make a video of it? Can you play shovel knight on an NES?
Would rusty pliers that are stuck together work? Xd
Do you make repros and sell them? Online
Not much. I closed my etsy store because life got way too busy during summer. I mostly just sell at conventions, but if you can't find somewhere somewhere let me know and I can whip it up for you.
OK because I would like to have have fire emblem genealogy of the holy war for the super Nintendo that is japan only and there exist an English patch for it
If you are taking requests, could I get a price range of A repro Super Dram World for SNES? I am guessing its cheeper than getting a Flash Cart or a PROM Programmer.
Excelente video informativo.
Can I use eeproms
I’m using donor carts just for eproms
MetalJesus sent me. Subbed!
I wanna be like Riggs when I grow up
Oh hell yeah!!! thanks!!
Thank you
1:13 music name?
I think u should get better audio .. almost important than video quality.
It's only as good as the iPad Mini I recorded it on. Complain to Apple.
How to Make Repros for 2021?
Hayao Miyazaki, is that you?
Egos thing there's a lot of crappy games that are extremely cheap u can use for parts
9:35 that green board is a terrible design. There are no capacitors on the board, the traces are an auto routed mess and it requires you to steal multiple components from an original board. There is also dead copper all over the board and that defeats the purpose of having a ground fill.
And the biggest flaw, because of how far away the CIC is and how bad the board routing is you will get cross talk on the CIC lines and your game will randomly cut out on you while playing. On an older model SNES it will be a few minutes on newer models like the Mini you might get a few hours though.
I bought some SMW hacks from FlashBack that were built on those boards and I kept losing my game save because there were no capacitor on the save lines. I ended moving the EPROM to another board and it worked great after that.
Right on! I know several who have used these green boards without fail, but this was an older design, I think. I just happen to still have some laying around.
30 AWG silicone insulated wire would probably be the best for this scale.
do you think 22 gauge is ok to use?
@@pouncerminned863 Might be a bit difficult to make things fit, but certainly possible, if a bit messy to cram it all in.
@@troy4393 so maybe 24 or 26 would be a better choice then
@@pouncerminned863 Yep, those should be fine.
"Eprom strightner"= IC setter
Now, if I could only find Tengen-style shells... :\
There are snes boards available on Tindie.com :)
Cool cool cool (Ahbed from community) lol
Don't you worried about getting busted doing this?
Make in easy way
nothing wrong with being lazy. bill gates has said that he loves giving difficult and harder jobs to lazy people because they will always find the easiest and fastest way to get the job done
