    a solenoid valve might be timed for best velocity shortest burst to conserve air,
    or a smaller tank to build pressure faster, or both. starting fluid could be detonated as a propellant, a little more dangerous but we used Aqua-Net hair spray with ABS pipe and a BBQ "spark unit" for home made spud cannons back when.

    Just a suggestion, but it might have been better if you had taken your air outlet tangentially from the top edge of the air receiver. That would give you faster, and more powerful scavenging of the air. It would also have given you somewhere to mount an adjustable backsight for better aiming of the canon.

      We use these in the shop to mount tires (Cheetah) and it's the same set up as they have here. It's so much pressure, whatever's in that tube comes out with serious force. It's long gone by the time any more air comes out. SWIM used to shoot handfuls of roasted peanuts out of the tire cheetah (had a large can sitting around) at garage doors and they just stick and turn to powder.

    Idea: Fit a big air compressor tank the intake of the engine. When you flick a switch on the dashboard, Instead of a suction stroke there is a compressed air stroke straight from the compressed air tank. Just before the end of the stroke a Y valve flicks over and lets the air out of the cylinder through the same intake manifold that it came from. This is so that you don't end up with some stupid compression ratio. You will need an additional camshaft to make it work. Fit injectors and now you have an engine that can do alternating hot and cold power strokes when you need to pass that Lamborghini with your lada.

    I used to make something simular with old small propane torch tanks. I would get a drill and drill out the valve in the neck of the tank and open it up. Then you drill a hole in the bottom of the tank. Then you drop a tire valve stem threw the open neck so it drops inside the tank. You take needle nose pliers shacking around the valve stem until it drops threw the hole you drilled into the bottom and pull it all the way threw until it seats on the hole like on a car rim. Then you get a water on/off valve that screws onto the top and the desired size pipe to fit the valve. modify the tank so it's like a stock so you can aim it like a rifle. I used a pipe so i could slide 50 cal. muzzeloader balls down the barrel pipe. you can add a pressure gauge if you like. You take a bicycle pump and attach to valve stem and pressurize the tank. Load barrel. then aim it at what ever you like and then turn the on/off water valve to 'on' to fire. I used to shoot 50 cal, muzzeloader balls threw two sheets of plywood no problem. It is more powerful when you use the bullet with a sabot because it has a nice tight seal. You can even slide arrows down the barrel and they go threw anything.

    • @rossbrumby1957
      @rossbrumby1957 2 года назад +1

      They wouldn't be using anywhere near the original working pressure of the tank. You could tell pressures are low by the trajectory shown of the first shot. Probably under 100psi. A longer barrel would have gotten them a better velocity considering the air tank size without increasing pressure.
