Native Floridian here, thank goodness we moved from the area to NW Florida. I pray for these people. There are 2 things I'll never understand:
1) Put you yard items away!!! Stop leaving stuff out to become projectiles for someone to get hurt!!
2) If a CAT 3 or greater is coming at you and your state is only 100 miles wide, LEAVE! Or at the very least get your butt to the middle of the state. How many catastrophic storms have to hit before they realize they're dangerous?!
hehe.. prayer doesn't work. science however... and listening to the predictions of storm strength and when to evacuate, does.
So true. I live here and ever year you have the nut jobs riding it out. I can remember many years ago. Rescue works were losing their lives going out to rescue people who chose not to evacuate when asked. Now they let them know well in advance YOU WILL NOT be rescued when the hurricane is hitting hard and you will just need to hunker down. That was the best decision they ever made. Can you imagine getting a phone call saying that your love one lost their life out trying to rescue someone who ignored repeated evacuation orders.
Middle of the state here. Close to 100 mph winds gusts and high sustained winds. It stalled out over us for hours. Charlie got us here too right after we moved here. Charlie was brutal....but quick
@@terrim4116 Ah yes, Charlie.... We actually got Charlie, Francis and Jean that year. We were without power for a month total. My husband and I made meals on or grill/camping accessories for our neighborhood. We actually left for Francis and went to Jekyll island and ended up getting hit by the squall lines.
@@melodysmelody2809 I think most people only factor in winds when storm surge is the real danger of it all. I know many may not be able to afford to leave or can't due to disability which is why I feel like during a hurricane we gotta get better at sheltering people. Every available building inland should be used. Libraries, churches, hotels, etc. but I know that gets tricky trying to make people shelter others... I saw a post last night where water was rising on a lady and her dog in her car and rescue turned her down. People in a panic don't realize if they don't have an option then neither does rescue! It just sucks....
First time I'm seeing this. My family stayed behind in Punta Gorda dear God please keep them and everyone else, their family and friends safe through the night 🙏
Been through many Hurricanes, looks about right.
We live in Orange County, Orlando Florida, this hurricane was a disaster, this was also our very first hurricane we have been through, praying for power to come back on, we left, and staying in Hotel. Thanks for going live, praying for everyone, God bless

Terrible just terrible this storm really smashed that area. I watched The Whole thing on my TV today and it had me thinking about my family members living in Fort Myers what a terrible hurricane.

The local news and national news are useless compared to these guys. It is like we are there, observing it happen versus being told what is happening with hype and hyperbole with MSM, absent any real facts and conditions on the ground. MSM is misinformation.

I rescue cats in Louisiana. Of course I'm worried about the people but I'm also worried about all the little animals. I've seen some scary aftermath with them after hurricanes. Many animals will lose their lives and others will have heartbreaking injuries. They won't see birds and squirrels for a while. I've been praying for them all day.
Definitely prayers for all. Of course prayers that the animal's are safe too.

They don't sell home insurance for mobile homes in Florida BTW so these people are all screwed this morning.

I can't shake the disbelief of all the traffic and the sheer amount of non-boarded up properties you had come across while driving around as the storm was drawing near. How incredibly sad do many people got hurt that could have been prevented.

In Florida a round house, made with Concrete, would withstand the winds much better. I know there are plenty of Architects and engineers that could design roof materials and structures, that would not blow away.
I've often thought about round concrete houses. They aren't the prettiest looking things but it would seem much better so the wind could easily go around it.
People buying these house are older with limited income and can't afford to build your hurricane proof dream structures.

I’ve lived in FL all my life and gone thru countless hurricanes. That first clip of footage was different. I’ve never seen winds like that. Insane.
