You are absolutely wrong! Pits were not, originally bred for fighting, they were the original nanny dog. They were bred to protect the women and children while the men were away in the fields

Wrong! Pitbulls were bred from the Old English Bulldog which was used for Bull Baiting. Thereafter it was used for killing rats in a pit and thereafter they transitioned over to Dog fights in the Pit. So both of you are wrong. The Pitbull was then later exported to the US where is was used as a service or nanny dog. So in essence the Pitbull was bred for Blood sport. This does not mean it will always fight. They bred certain traits in the dog that would make them most eligible for blood sports but they can also be used for a lot of other things. Today a lot of originally bred hunting dogs are used in sport and not hunting. Same should be said for the Pitbull.
