I rescued a Catahoula. Most incredible dog I've ever worked with. He has significant behavior challenges due to his unfortunate history, but he is so amazing. Not just smart, but a partner. He is intense and really focused. He can also be really silly and affectionate with people he trusts. My advice is to socialize your Catahoula very early and consistently. Mine wasn't and will have lifelong distrust of strangers, but I'm working hard with him. Lots of wonderful dogs out there, but Catahoulas are something else.
Thanks for posting this video. Catahoula dogs are a unique challenging breed with so much heart and soul. Ozzie and I are an odd PTSD support team, continuing to heal each other every day.
I love Maple. She’s a beauty! I have a female Catahoula also. I got her from a couple that needed to rehome her. Sky is 7-1/2 years old and I’ve had her for almost 4-1/2 years now. She’s my best buddy and such a smart girl! Whenever I tell people what breed of dog I have, they say “Cata-what?!” 😂 I’m so proud to own this unique and beautiful breed! I really enjoyed watching this. Thanks for sharing! ❤
Great job training Maple to do the job at hand! I had a fantastic Catahoula and I could get him to do just about anything. Great breed; I miss him every day 💔 Thanks for giving me some Catahoula time 🤩
I have a beautiful Catahoula I adopted from the Austin Humane Society shelter. Ozzie is the most emotionally sensitive Velcro dog I've ever known. His PTSD from being abandoned at age 4 by the couple he adored was so severe it took me four years and daily CBD to help him heal.
We have Gypsy our Blue merle Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog and Remmington a Liver /Red Merle we took in a few months ago... he's retriever and Australian Shepherd. He's a "designer dog" but was "thrown away" when we found each other... Bless his heart!
This type of dog will accompany you with anything you do and be up with enthusiasm at any hour of the 24 hours within seconds just like a firefighter. The worst thing you can do to a catahoula to upset it is to make the dog sit out of whatever the work or activities are. There is nothing more than this dog hates than being made to stay at home and left out of what it’s handler owner is doing. The dog could fall down three flights of stairs and get right back up and keep going but if you leave your catahoula at home it is soul crushing to the Dog.
Absolutely loved this Julie! Just found your channel. Your presentation and content rich explanations are superb. Have an Alapaha Blue Blood Bulldog from Georgia and live in a rural setting in central Oregon. They actually have a little Catahoula in the breed. Keep up the great work - love the content on the dogs as the info you share can be applied to the "real world". I am sure many of your subscribers have working farm dogs of all shapes, sizes and breeds.
Hello! I’m a new subscriber, just found you guys today thanks to my wife. Really enjoyed this video! Looking forward to watching more of your content & learning from y’all. I love watching a dog work like Maple is doing there. We have a homestead here in South Carolina!! GOD BLESS YALL 😇🙏🏻😇🙏🏻😇🙏🏻❤️❤️
We feed it as a protein supplement (spent brewers grain is almost all protein and fiber, all the carbohydrates have been cooked out of it) and to bucket train our animals so that we can move them around and catch them easily.

Yes they are, you are lucky to have one of your own!
Awwwwwwwww
😊
I have a catahoula already!
That's awesome!
How are they around pigs and chickens??
They have a high prey drive and will chase other livestock unless trained not to.
would they make a good urban companion and home watch dog?
Do you know where to find puppies? Do you breed? These are great dogs or maple is ! 😊
You can call the NALC breed registry office and they can help you find a responsible breeder near you.
Remember Catahoula are independent
Yes they are.
Not all trainers have the understanding of this breed try pumi for another one
True
Why do you need to feed grain with all that grass?
We feed it as a protein supplement (spent brewers grain is almost all protein and fiber, all the carbohydrates have been cooked out of it) and to bucket train our animals so that we can move them around and catch them easily.
How much do they cost
Between $500-$2000, depending on quality.
Anyone wants Catahoula puppies? We have NINE! :/
Oh my goodness, you have your hands full!
How much
