Great review and super honest. I personally chose the cheaper brushed version to put in my own electronics. Decided on Surpass Hobby Rocket 3670 2260kv, matching 100A ESC. 28 tooth pinion. DS3218 pro servo and Dumbo RC X6FG receiver, carbon fibre chassis brace. I'm a basher not a racer or speeder. Reckon this setup is working pretty well.
I have 104001 running 29t motor gear running 3s brushless set up the best mod I did was put the tires from my slash 4x4 vxl on this buggy it's a completely different car absolutely an animal try it you won't be disappointed
I have several of these buggies and I have converted some of them to brushless. Most of my cars and trucks I keep stock like you said just to have fun with them. Nice job Dave, have a great weekend.
I know wltoys has a v2 esc that is rated for 60a. I heard that the 45a esc is rated only for 2s. If I would get this rc buggy… I would replace the standard esc for the v2 esc.
Awesome overview and demo of this buggy. Seems to be pretty good. Of course getting up into the 1/10 the price is getting up there a bit. IMO nothing what I see says to me this is a must have for my collection. I'd be more excited if they tried a sand buggy version of this scale like they did with the 1/12. Any way still cool stuff. Hope you had a great weekend. cheers Dave!
Hey Mike thanks very much for watching brother and yep I have to agree about the price, I think it should be under the $200 price tag to be fair. Considering last year's brushed model is $100 less as a RTR package and the roller is even cheaper from makerfire at $115 you can buy the brushless parts and do it yourself. Have a good week ahead my friend 👍
Excellent review. Really concise and professional. I think that a thorough check, tighten and oil is necessary with any of these cheaper RC's. (good practice for any TBH) Looks fantastic. Cheers. Subbed 😎
I bought the brushed version and like a crazy person I put like 600$ into it. full electronics upgrades, new motor, new tires, custom made upper chassis brace, 3s batteries and upgrades my lipo charger. I knew they were going to upgrade this car eventually but When I first saw this I was a little disheartened because i thought if I had waited a while longer I could have bought this new version. And don’t get me wrong it’s nice and I love the colors. But I feel like it should be performing better than it is…. So now I am kinda happy I went my route cause all my upgrades are legitimate hobby wing. And don’t t me wrong the budget stuff is nice for what it costs. But my hobbywing stuff is probably the equivalent to and in some area slightly better than what the new one has in it except it cost me a lot more. But the results I’m seeing Vs the budget stuff they put into the new one is significantly different. My car goes about 75-80 kph or 45-50 mph. Have a 25kg servo, nice tires similar to the new v2 of the 144001. Nice nobby tread, not the carpet tires, that’s one thing I did not care for on the 104001 was those tires and I’ve heard a ton of complaints about them and they did the same exact ones on this new brushless version so they obviously didn’t listen to the fans this time or were too Chinsey to upgrade. In the end after seeing your video I’m kinda glad I went my route. I had to invest a lot but I also have a night and day difference in performance and quality products that will last the life of the car. Im glad they upgraded the wrench to metal and put an antenna in it but the same 80g metAl spur gear use ridiculous they should never had done it in the first place. Love your channel. Keep up the good work. A fan here in America.

@PERTH WEST OZ RC is wltoys 124017 v2 easy to maintain, do i have to do anything extra after opening the box, does it have any cogging issues or any other?
Yes it's easy to maintain, I suggest check over the rc car and grease the diffs especially, check my 124019 grease service video on that I made early last year, also there should be no cogging on any of the V2 models
Yep with these wltoys cars it is necessary as they do not put much in them at all, have a look through my old videos I have a playlist on the wltoys cars and how to grease the diffs etc
one more question, can you tell which car is better wltoys 124017 or a959-b. i am new in hobby and don't want much tension. which car is easy to maintain?

nice buggy they could've gone for a slightly beefier esc though considering the car is going to be heavier in a larger scale and the fact those blue esc's come in various amperages and not much more than a quid/dollar between the prices
For sure compared to the brushed version that was a total disappointment this one is a step forward, but even if they converted, it's basically the same crap under a different coloured hood. The gearing is terrible, the spur gear is tall limiting pretty much the speed, and the overall quality of the components it's pretty cheap.
