When I buy my boat it will get a mini jet for sure. I want 2 on mine. The big one for groceries and normal everyday taxi duty but the mini jet is for me, for fun. I want that smile. Thank you and be safe.
I don't believe folks understand how exhausting 30 minutes of stunting on a jet ski is, and your Williams doesn't look much different. Must be a fun work-out for you James. Glad you enjoyed your upgrade :-)
W0W! Looked ike sooo much fun! Would you consider getting the "Williams Minijet tender, Wing's kit." of course you would need to change your name to, "Sailing/ Flying Aequus" Ha! Happy you guy's are back!
You looked like a kid in a candy store!! How fantastic!!! Take advantage of every day and enjoy each day to the max.. And get your gorgeous wife in front of the camera!!!!! Glad you are having fun....
Hello.. good to see guys..fyi..I have to manually type your channel into RUclips to get episodes.. I'm subscribed (for sure ) ALERTS ON Anyway we are finally buying our boat/ live aboard this year (4 years of planning )...we will be starting near Bahamas.. we would love to see you guys out there one day.. I've been watching channels for a few years.. but when my wife seen you.. she was confident in going with me.. so thank you Philippa.. strong women reveal other strong women.. thank you for you guys inspiration
Nice fun! Not sure if anyone made the point...but a jet drive, as you stated with 50 to 60 hp, is engine power, not thrust. Maybe equal to a 30 hp outboard. My tender was same length, with a 25 hp outboard, (not US legal) would near flip over backward on initial throttle. Never got it to full throttle. Too scary. Jet drives are nice, but not as efficient as a prop. Your tricky wire harness, likely bypassed the ignition rev limiter, thus more rpm...more power. Glad you like it!
The difference between an outboard and a jetdrive is outboard has more weight at the rear, and the thrust is lower from the hull which has more leverage over the boat. A jet drive creates suction holding the boat down, the engine is further forward, and the thrust is inline with the hull so you can have more power safely. Jetdrives are more efficient also.
@@chippyjohn1 I agree with your analogy, mostly. We are building both outboards and inline surface drives, that IMO are the best of both worlds. You claim "Jetdrives are more efficient also." I wonder in what aspects? Fuel efficiency? Forward propulsion? Steering? Would like to know your quick thoughts. My 32 hp Waverunner can hit 60+ with a OEM stock '89 engine and a clunky surface drive unit. The jet unit only produced 35+, but was quicker off the line a bit.
@@artthurman3446 A jet drive is a shrouded propeller/impeller. Having a shroud eliminates the re-circulation of water around the outer edge of the blade giving the blade a higher thrust to drag ratio. That being said, not all impellers are designed the same. There are many variables, but the efficiency of a jet is higher than that of an unenclosed prop. Comparing a prop to a completely different design jet is difficult, but if two are design to be as identical as possible, a jet will be more efficient. This is why many vessels are turning towards Jets. Jets have only started becoming more popular in the last 2 decades, impeller design prior to this was very crude, where as surface drives have been perfected long ago.
Can always use more hp lol that little tender is hauling the mail lol Maybe need a new impeller with a greater pitch to maxiamis the upgrade. If going over red line rpm at full throttle greater pitch will bring it down and more speed lol. Boys and there toys lol.
I've watched your videos and they have been very helpful as I just purchased a used mini jet It seems to only carry just over 7 gallons of fuel. Would you know how many miles per gallon you've been getting?
In have the 23 model, with 60 hp standard. The engine is the same as teh one in seadoo spark. So its no problem chipping it to 90 hp. But i need to change the impeller then, to avoid too much rpms, and also change the ingrate to one more «cheesgrade» looking, to get a better grip in small wawes? Any thoughts?
The key question is how much did the upgrade cost and is it worth it for another 5 MPH? How often do you/will you need the extra boost? I can see it if it allows you to carry extra weight without straining the engine, but it seems like you couldn't even add enough weight to need it based on the size of the boat.
Hi, like your videos. if you ever visit Sweden, you can test drive my 3.5m long waterjet powered rib at 120hp and make 51 mph. I call it the insanemachine
Great episode. We are yet to get to our recently purchased boat (we're in Australia, boat in the Caribbean 😞) which comes with a Williams minijet. Looking at yours, it seems to have just enough room for the 2 of you so wondering how do you manage bags and bags of groceries and whatever else, water, beer, wine???
@@SailingAequus great to hear, thank you. I sent you guys a message in Messenger a while back, when you were in or maybe just left Curacao but I'm guessing you don't do Messenger or don't respond to any dodgy randoms? Would have loved some advice but all worked out 😄
My next dinghy will not be an inflatable. I had two that desintegrated real fast so enough of loosing my time and money on this bad concept. Hard dinghy it will be.
Warming up an engine by running it in idle without any load is never a good idea. No matter if it is a car or boat engine. The fuel will wash off the oil from pistons and cylinders and increase abrasion (wear) tremendously.
This is the first time I have heard that, do you have any reference for this from a manufacturer? My mechanic recommends to warm up as the tolerances of the engine is designed for operating temp, not on cold start.
You may have a point, a light aircraft will idle at 800 rpm but we always warm it up at 1000 rpm also a car with an auto choke will run faster until the engines warmed up and it return to idle.
@@vxnova1 warming up an engine on idle takes much longer than at about 2 to 3 thousand rpm and under light load. So you reach operation temp much quicker. In cold „mode“ the fuel doesn’t burn efficient, so it washes the oil off the moving part and thins the oil in the oil pan with with un-burnt fuel. Hope this explanation is understandable (my native language is German).
@@sailingxtremeadventures542 even at 800 rpm the engine is at a certain load due the resistance of the prop. A car /boat engine in idle has as resistance only the inner friction, which is a very small load not helping much to speed up warming up the engine.
@@ops7750 ahh so you still warm up just at a slightly higher rpm than idle, 1 to2 k rpm, I was thinking you were saying just start and run flat out at full load,
I would honestly have to say that's not a dingy that's a personal watercraft which is the same as a jet ski with big old rubber bumpers on it that's all that thing is And 99% of those 10 horsepower upgrades are a myth if you didn't spend a couple $100 it probably is all in your head
