fun fact there is actually a song that only exists in simlish...sims 2 features another world by kitty shack, she had trouble with her label and the english version got never released
A song? There are tons of songs that are simlish originals. The majority of songs in the game are Simlish versions of actual artists songs but the rest are simlish originals. I like some of the originals better than the sim versions of artists songs. Feewa Foona Wabee (Pop) and Lamia (dark wave) for example ^_~
oh damn I didn't know that, I probably didn't pay much attention when playing as a kid and nowerdays I play it with muted music bc yk after a while the cheery main menu and build mode tracks get really annoying haha
For the sims 1 all the songs were simlish originals. Then they started getting artists to record their songs in simlish since the sims 2 but they still mixed in simlish originals in every game. It is hard to tell the difference between an artist's simlish version and a simlish original. That's why you have to look it up by song. :) All the songs are listed in the options menu under music. After searching through my fave ones in the games, I found that some of them are simlish originals that EA created for the game, and only exist in the game. There is no "real language" version. ^^
Sure, but I think Kitty Shack is the only one that was intended to be a Simlish cover, but ended up only releasing in Simlish in the end.
Which happened several times. It wasn't just Kitty Shack. Like in the sims 4, there were a couple artists who re-recorded their own songs AND provided an original simlish cover song (under the same name or a simlish name). For example Tim Wheeler's "Way I'm Feeling" is an original simlish cover. Actual artist, no "real language" version. Also Kari Kimmel's "Who I am" is another simlish original cover song. Actual artist, no "real language" version. ^^
Duolingo should add a language course for the sims
And that’s on bella goth
I think he made it pretty clear why that's not possible throughout the video. Simlish isn't a direct translation to English.
@@DarkestDeeds shhh let me dream
PLEASE
Oh no. Please do not summon it here, I just escaped out of its basement
You know you've truly made it as a famous musician when you get asked to re-record your song in simlish
Am I the only person who got annoyed at the title because they put gibberish instead of *Simlish*
RiverdaleGang 87 same
Not just the title, but all the way thru the video.
well thats how they get more viewers by making it more vague
@Mysterious StudiosYT They kept calling it a garbage gibberish made-up language. Teenage edgelords.
Spanewash, bow too, shanga mabay illy acob wibbs
"...earn loads of money,"
_Did you mean:_ *motherlode?*
Well, he'd be thinking of rosebud.
motherlode wasn't in Sims 1 afaik.
@@kentleighenglish1388 rosebud;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!;!
what about 'money 9999999' which i use on all my saves right at the beginning (sims 4)
Fun fact, actually. there IS a defined answer to the nature of this. it's made up, but it's designed specifically to make it sound like english to people who can't understand english. The same way that you can identify spanish as opposed to german or japanese or even italian, english has a distinctive sound and it's designed to follow that.
Wow I wish they also worked hard on the things we wanted in Sims for a long time, I mean yeah it's cool that they made this language but I think they should've concentrated on the requests of the players.
@@notavailable7120
Lmao what? Simlish was a thing before the Sims 1 launched, there was no player requests also I love Simlish I stan
@@overdozze1226 What I mean is over the time many people have been expecting new stuff like color wheel, things from Sims3, 2 etc. but the developers never listened and all they did was just give us (in my opinion) expensive packs that weren't what most of the people requested also it is great that you are a Sims stan, all I am saying is Sims4 needs some working
@@notavailable7120
I understand and agree 100% but what I meant is Simlish was made before the first game so the community had no say in it, but you are right about TS4.
Not Available I agree that sims4 needs reworking, but I imagine the linguists and programmers are in totally different departments with different budgets, so we can’t blame them. lol We should instead blame the big boss in charge, EA games, for being stingy!!
There’s a Sims 3 expansion pack called World Adventures where you can travel to Egypt, China, and France. While playing it, when you talk to Sims from the countries in the expansion packs (and when you learn songs from these Sims’ countries), you can totally tell there’s an influence of the languages of each country when you hear their versions of Simlish - like the French Simlish sounds like French gibberish, and same goes for the other countries. It’s pretty remarkable!
THANKS! Now I have to install it 😂😂😂
Simlish is the standard language for Fall Out Boy.
TheFridayVerse big oof
TheFridayVerse True tho
also for the 1975
okay valid
Very true
I always thought Simlish was supposed to be is overhearing them, but not able to make it the words (If that makes sense). Like if people are talking in the other room and you can make out that words are being said, just not what those words are.
Jules Marten I never thought of it that way, but it makes perfect sense to me
When the first sims game was in development, they tried making the sims speak English but they found it to be too distracting. During game testing they found the testers watching the conversations between their sims rather than playing the game so they decided to change it to a jibberish language to make it less distracting for the player.
Jules Marten Reminds me of a video that tried to represent what english sounds to non-english speakers, it worked, I only felt like I could understand what they’re saying
Obiaas_ i think another reason is because if it was in English, the conversations would become stale and annoying after a while
I don't think that's a real reason. 99% of playing The Sims is just watching it anyway, if I could actually understand what they were saying, i'd have loved that.
My sims just say “the door” every once and a while
Giamakesvids when they order they say “bartend”
dador
I have no idea what it means. I think it means 'I'm bored'.
Giamakesvids once in a while you mean
I'm pretty sure mine says "avocado"
Wow bro, that’s pretty wacky mine says. “Why did you create me? Why do you endlessly torment me. I am made to die and die again endlessly on repeat. Please just kill me for good.” Pretty wacky innit?
While playing the original sims, I once built a house that had two rooms on one end of the house. The wall between the rooms had the biggest window pane possible. On the one side I put a popcorn machine and a single bench facing the window pane looking into the second room. In the second room I placed the cheapest ugliest toilet, the crappiest bed and chair. There were no no other windows in these two rooms. The rest of the house was normal.
I then made a family with a guy and girl. Got them to fall in love and then get the girl to go into the room where I would remove the door so that she was trapped. I would then get the guy to sit on the bench and watch his beloved slowly starve to death in her dungeon.
At this point I decided to start going to therapy.
True story.
chill satan
You're scaring me
Karl Schurmann lol
I might do it.. i can revive them in sims 4
I've done that.... But it was a lady and her father..... But later on I made the father live in the tiny room with window to very top so nobody can see....
Edit: he has every thing to be able to live 😂😂
The first time I started playing the sims, I thought what I was hearing was an existing language, and I was so confused and distressed because I was trying so hard to find a way to make it go back to English, I thought I was gonna have to go return my copy, I was really stressed about it
I did eventually find out that it was a weird made up language, but still.
I also thought it was a multiplayer game, for some reason. I was really afraid of interacting with the other sims in town because I was super young and my parents raised me to be paranoid of internet strangers.
I was a really confused kid.
I used to think it was an online game too, I was paranoid also, your not alone.
Connie Stephens oof
Connie Stephens Yes. I thought it was Spanish.
Severinsen loool😂
I used to think scate 4 was online
I remember hearing Fall Out Boy for the first time in the sims and I flipped shit. I had no idea and thought my computer was glitching out, then that I was going nuts. A very cool idea.
Liusila mcr also did nanana for the sims 3
They did a Grace Vanderwaal song too.
There are all those jokes about Patrick not pronouncing words, they could have just used the originals 😋
Saaaaame I remember I would change stations and click "next song" over and over again to see if I could figure out all of them haha
there's no fob in the sims?
I love that Gerard Way went in and recorded “Na Na Na” in Simlish

@@jupitertheplanet. I've been playing these games since 2010 and I never knew about the fact that they used these songs or artists in the sims games, because I would mute the games and turn on my own music.

2:14 Every Sim ever: Ooooooh feebee le!
Every Sim player has heard that. Means "I'm hungry" in Simlish if ya haven't figured it it.
(Btw I'm sure 99% of Sims players agree that "Feebee le" means "I'm hungry.")
my sims in the sims free play always said that when they got stuck, they only got stuck because they put their food STRAIGHT ON THE FLOOR INFRONT OF THEM
Su su means hello.
"Nooboo" means baby but yes "ooooooh feebee le!" Does mean I'm hungry in simlish....I know both of these because I play huge families (20+ sims with mods) in the sims 3 and it seems like they are always hungry and always having babies.
ThatAnnoyingKid I’ve always spelt it ‘zuel zuel’
I'm a weirdo am I? I become overly attached to my sims and never try to hurt them. I turn of ageing so i can play with the character for as long as possible and achieving as much in their lifetime as I can. I once turned on ageing accidentaly and my favourite Sim died. What did I do? I took all of her photos of herself, all her collectables and all of the thigs she created and built a temple of rememberance. It was next to the graveyard i created and meant Sims could come and see all the things the sim did during their life, each sim had a rememberance room. So yeah I think I take things a bit to far and a bit to serious lol. Maybe I have problems letting go. 😂
zoe clarke wow good job
fnaf Rea thank you lol 🌻
You are a good person. :)
Covena White Thanks Covena! 💕
i can’t even dedicate to a family for more than a day lol i end up killing them all
The clangers are actually whistling in english. The actors were given actual scripts and were whistling the tune of the words.
So "Sod it, the bloody thing's stuck again" would become "Whee whoo, whoo whiwhi whii whu wawi."
I have that bit as my SMS notification. Once I found out, I HAD to have it.
Wow
I remember that fact being on QI 😁
Actually they did a German event and asked them to do the clangers on German, they just did it as usual and the performers were praised for their perfect German! It was in the clangers documentary (edit I wrote this before I got to that bit in the video.... obviously I watched the same documentary) XD
My fucked up tale;
So I started playing the sims when I was like, ten or eleven or so. It was the third one. And I was in that phase where I was really into character creation and storytelling (see; mary-sue OCs and fanfiction galore) but I didn't know how to make anything decent. So what I liked having in my characters included really fucked up, but also really generic backstories.
You can see where this is going.
When I got into the Sims, I was super excited about the character creation bit. I didn't want to necessarily care about the strategy aspect of it; my little story-minded brain wanted stories.
So, I wanted these characters with fucked up backstories. And I would make these sim families, and I would always pick one that I wanted to be the "main character". Usually they were kids or teenagers.
I had one where my "main character" was abused by her family. Of course, the game wouldn't allow physical abuse, but I would only ever have her parents use "mean" interactions with her. They lived in a big house, and she was locked in one part of it (which, rest assured, I gave her everything she needed to survive, and actually the best of it too, because she was my main character and I wanted her to be The Most Amazing Ever, but also wanted sad points)
I made her retaliate by running away and setting the house on fire. That isn't quite something she could do, though, because Sims constraints. So basically I just had her leave and then I set the house on fire and killed her parents myself.
Another one of my favorites has to be when I made a family that was a young woman, a young man, the young woman's parents, and the couple's son. They were basically "ideal family" bait.
I gave a nice, upper-middle class house, and made the man and the woman fuck relentlessly until they conceived another child. They had the baby, and then basically, after making sure I had used the blender enough to make a hell of a lot of baby food and left it all on the ground, I drowned the entire family except for the baby.
I aged it up to a toddler quickly, and I had it raise itself, since basically a hack I used all the time is that you can play as only a toddler/child/teen if you made an adult sim in a household with them and killed the adult.
So I had this sim raise itself from a toddler to a MAJORLY fucked up young adult.
I did some fucked up shit.
Omg I love this 😂😂

I couldn't remember the lyrics from Rise Against's Savor when I first heard the band when I was at a water park, so I couldn't google it. One day many years after first hearing that song I heard it on a Sim DLC pack commercial on YT. I was like "Wait. Is it that one song I tried to find the name to years ago?" Googled the list of Sims songs and found it. Now I have their albums on my iPod and I have a random Sims commercial to thank for that lol.

That is the worst experience, I hate when that happens
Witch Doctor by the Cartoons was performed entirely in Simlish.
In 1998.
Two years before the first game was released.
Naaah, it was just a few random sounds along with a few real sentences in english.
Witch Doctor was originally released in 1956 by Don Lang.

Sims Creators: Hey we need you to record our songs in a made up language. I know that's a lot to ask, but-
Katy Perry: SIGN ME UP!
My funniest Sims story goes a little something like this.
I don't remember which game it was, but I do know it was before cell phones. So in order to call anyone for any reason, you needed to buy a phone and attach it to the wall.
When I built a home from scratch, I forgot to do this. So when there was a fire, my Sims couldn't call the fire department. Without enough money to buy a phone. The only option I had was to let the fire burn itself out. It lasted for three days.
I don't remember if anyone died.
Broken Inkwell you are very patient! I salute you good human!( I'm not going to assume genders 😂)
THREE DAYS?!!
I think they meant three in-game days.
@@Gideon.Gambit I mean, I can't speak for Sims 1, but I know that's not possible in an unmodded Sims 2 game, and Sims 3 was where cell phones were introduced.
they actually found a script of the clangers. it turns out, not only are they speeking english, but there also swearing. "oh bugger, the bloody thing's stuck again" is an actual line from the show.
that's... amazing

Urbz has the Black Eyed Peas as characters so they probably had to sing for Sims haha

I'd assume they'd convert Jesus to Kahless, since he basically is their "god" and they won't shut up about him.
(Technically, Klingon mythology says the Klingons killed their gods, and Kahless is just a supreme ruler. So all man, no God.)
NERDS!!
most translations just use Jesus, because there isn't a strong enough parallel word, some use Kahless.
I always accidentally sing Weird Al's eBay whenever I want it that way comes on it's truly a curse

I had a girl I made my wife on Sims 2. I checked her relationships and saw she loved me and another guy. I invited him over and built a room around him and let him suffer to death. After he died, I made a calamari dish, and she died from it. #instantkarma
I got a story from a time I heard "English" in Sims 3...
>Have a merman sim
>Have him invite merman friend over
>They're getting along as friends, watching tv, nothing unusual here
>I go to the bathroom real quick
>I come back, the mermen are in bed together, under the sheets with hearts
>OMF
>They get out of bed
>They make out
>Sim 1 says "Giggity dix?"
>Oh god
>Sim 2 replies "Giggity dix~"
>O_O
And that is the story of the gay mermen...
Takata Cheroki gay merman is the best kind of merman

I remember my little cousin getting SO heated that she couldn’t understand my sims 😂😂😂
Remember watching a Pixie Lott (?) video and she said she had to stop practicing in Simlish because she got the words mixed up when she tried to sing the original in English hahaha
There's a language, in the Canarias Spanish islands, called Silbo Gomero, that's entirely made up of whistles, and it's a full fledged language, they've got real structure, and even teach it at school.
Selur91 I can't whistle, so I'd be screwed there.
It's not a "full fledged language", it's more like a phonetic translation of the language spoken, Spanish.
While you're right in the fact that the Silbo is an adaptation of the Castilian language it's still a language by itself, just like pretty much all the languages on the world are an adaptation of another, Silbo is an adaptation of Castilian with in turn is an adaptation of Latin. It's the eternal corundum that bothers linguists, when is a language a language on it's own and when it's just a dialect, however in this case I take the side of the UNESCO and call it a language, despite it being a derivative work of another the differences are quite big.
Legitimately, when you're installing Sims 2 onto your PC you'll get an option to do a Maxis studio's Sims quiz and they'll imply that Simlish is broken Ukrainian.
Warwick Wightman never saw that! Shame sounds like a funny quiz
Nah, I’m Ukrainian and it sound nothing like that :)
My favorite Simlish song is Suffer well by Depeche Mode.
I'm a DM fan and I've only just learned today that this exists. Today has been an emotional rollercoaster

I sing along with some of the Simlish songs. If you hear it often enough, it's easy to pick it up. Especially if you have a Sim that's in the Singer career.
Whenever I hear "Flying Solo" I still hear "I'm Han Solo"
I'm giggling uncontrollably at myself because I said, "Sul sul" and waved at my monitor at the beginning of this video
Part of the reason the Clangers are so understandable is that a real script was written for each episode, in English. Oliver Postgate and Peter Firmin would then record themselves whistling the lines out with a slide flute, which is why the whistles have the cadence and tone of real speech.
Thats how i write songs tbh
I record songs as soon as I come up with the idea and as I go along and layer on me doing the instrumentals and don't wanna let thinking of lyrics kill the flow of the process
So i just switch in and out of languages that I speak and literal gibberish and write the lyrics later
Good process, reccomend
This... actually does sound like a great idea. I might start doing this when I get back to recording and mixing. I’m still awful at writing song lyrics so I might just record myself in gibberish just so I get the idea for when I (eventually, hopefully) write something coherent down.
Rexcor Jungmir thats why i do it haha. I also think in 2 languages so it gets rlly confusing and garbled in my brain. I just sing gibberish besides parts where i know what i intent to convey ( like a bridge, so ill do it in whatever language comes first) until i feel like I'm going way from mt initial idea, go back and mess with it if i don't like it listening back, add accapella instruments in layers, write lyrics.
Then try mt best to make the songs somewhat ok on software because i cant actually play instruments fhahs
When the Abba Guys were writing the music to the Chess, one of them came up with the nonsense lyric: "One night in Bangkok makes hard man humble." Tim Rice liked the line so much, he kept it in the song. True story.
Anyone remember Urbz? Boy that was a weird one, exclusively Black Eyed Peas.
Skitz PiK I agree, tbh, I had it on xbox as a kid and it was honestly one of the best games I owned on that. Retrospectively, the controls were a little clunky, but eh, it was a game of its time. I think the only people who really appreciate it were the people who played it when it first came out, anyone playing it now would probably hate it, lets be honest lol.
I have legit found new music through sims😂
Back in the day when I had the Sims: Get A Life on the PS2, I really liked the idea of having a graveyard. So, I would make these families of 4 and have them move into the lot with a 3x3 house including a fireplace and the most expensive rug they had. All I had to do was put them in there and remove the door. One of them would eventually start the fireplace, and it was all over.
This came with a problem, though. After they all died, and their tombstones were collected and moved to my fenced off area, there was still a bunch of ash left.
So, I made another family.
The Crew family.
Their names were Clean-up, Clean-up, Clean-up, and Dance. I had the three Clean-up Crew brothers completely neat and generic, so they would clean up the ash immediately. Then I would have Dance Crew entertain by the graveyard with a stereo. The cleanups we're usually done by nightfall, but they ended up being really mean to Dance. They got into a bunch of fights, and then Dance ran away. I was sad. So I made another 3x3 house with a fireplace and a rug, then had the Cleanups go inside.
0:14 Aren't all languages made up :O
...you know too much
Biological evolution versus artificial...
Woke
Whenever I hear normal songs on the radio I start singing it in simlish. It's really annoying for my mum 😂
That clangers clip were (to my Norwegian ears) was a sad exclamation and a hopeful question. Something like "Oh no! But you are ok?" If I interpret it as English it sounds more like an excited exclamation like "Oh wow! Are you up for it?".
Interestingly, Norwegian is a quite tonal language (pitch accent to be precise), so a simple Norwegian sentence could be represented quite understandable by pitch only if you know the context. I've seen several demonstrations on tv where someone whistles Norwegian with a slide flute and most people have a pretty good idea what it meant.
I once heard 5SOS's Want You Back on the radio and I was SHOOK. Legit was proud that all of my sims were dancing to it too
i actually found the band paramore by playing the sims 2 as a kid. my sister and i have been fans ever since lol
The ebay parody of I want it that way, haven't heard that in 10 years.
This whole thing is just adorable,I love when games come up with their own languages,Hollow Kinght,The Sims,EYE:Divine Cybermancy,it just adds a certain charm to it!
The Sims series as a whole has awesome music, both incidental and recorded songs. I knew Katy Perry was into the Sims thing (I mean, she got a branded STUFF PACK in Sims 3), but I had no idea OK Go had recorded a song in Simlish! Of course, for me the funniest one is "You Steal My Sunshine" in Simlish, which was used as the announcement song for Sims 4 Seasons -- when I looked up the lyrics, I realized it made as much sense in English. XD (Also, seriously, a burglar stole your WINDOW? XD Man, you're making me all nostalgic for Sims 1. . .)
The RiseAgianst Song.... DUDE I WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO HEAR THE ORIGINAL AGAIN ... thank you for this

British Bo Burnham 😂😂it's uncanny
the best sims 3 song is by far the simlish version of na na na by my chemical romance because back in the day mcr refused to record a song for twilight but as soon as the sims creators contacted them, they agreed without hesitation which is the FUNNIEST thing to me
Why do you need to be sorry for? The original Sims background music is a banger. All of em.
I found Rise Against from playing Sims 3...
*has flashbacks to Na Na Na by mcr in simlish*
A simlish Eminem 😂😂😂
Not like I'm a professional or anything buttt, singing the Skyrim theme song in Dovahzul is so much more fun then in English, mainly because you can just focus on the singing alone instead of the conveying of words that goes with it? if that makes any sense at all
This happened when I was around 10 or 11.
So I was playing Sims 3, having a grand old time, and I sent my sim to take a shower. So my sim does her things, comes out, and does the spinny-clothes-changing thing. The censor goes away... Her clothes do not come back. So I have a completely naked sim running around, no censor, and I was scarred for life. That save still exists, actually.
I remember a Will Wright interview where he was asked about the "what languages" question and he said that if you hear a language you know in there it's probably not a coincidence, they used bits and pieces of all sorts of languages for Similish so it sounded like a familiar language to as many potential players as possible.
