My big thing on franchise representation would be that mechanic-wise FEW does more, but that shouldn't cancel out things like the Adventure mode gimmicks in HW or even just generally faithful character interpretations. Plus, while you didn't precisely address it, FEW represents 3 (3.5?) games, while HW makes at least little nod to every game in the franchise and major ones to 6 or more. I will say though that i only made it through FEW story mode on co op, and it ended pretty lackluster, so I might be biased against it somewhat
Hey, thank you for watching. Personally, I found the adventure mode gimmicks in HW to just be tedious and get in the way. It's cute for the first map but after a while it just forces you to do certain missions first before you can progress. I agree that there's a bit more love in Hyrule Warriors in a lot of ways, and representation is one of those ways. Fire Emblem has literally 100s of playable characters, so they chose to focus on the three biggest titles they had at that point for the roster. If you only played Fire Emblem Warriors on co-op in story mode, I'd highly encourage you to go back and give single player history mode a try, as that's where most of the game's content is. If you're not into that, that's totally fine too. However, that's where most of my hours came from and I loved playing those missions in short bursts.
Something that I don't like about FEW roster, aside from the clones, is that most of the characters are swords wielders, there is only 3 types of axe users, 2 lance users (1 if you don't have the DLC) 1 type of archer (despite being 4 archer users) it make the whole weapon triangle system pointless
As someone who loves Warriors games, I don't like the weapon triangle. It gets in the way of my mowing through enemies. The bad characters in HW feel pretty bad, but have decent combos once you get past the bad feel of them and learn how to do things like dodge-cancels effectively on them. Agitha's beetle attack, for instance, is very strong, even if she feels awful to play. Personally, I disagree on the music and map portions. The map is definitely daunting for new players since you have to filter out a lot of unnecessary information, but I find it useful to highlight what's going on where without pausing. I also just love the soundtrack for HW, personally. Loved the point breakdown of your view though. Gonna give FEW another chance to see if I can get past the weapon triangle. The only time I ever played it was co-op, so that might have been a large portion of the issue.
I highly recommend giving it another try, especially since it constantly goes on sale for around $25 on Amazon and stuff. I think the game is honestly not really playable in 2P. Also, if you use your Awakening Mode, you get triangle advantage on all enemies and it's really fun to try to make it last for as long as possible with Tiki or a character with the Galeforce skill. I feel like the fact that you have to filter out information on the map is counter-intuitive to good design. Ideally you want a map with only the relevant information highlighted and I will stand by that I think Fire Emblem Warriors has a more detailed, focused, and clear map. On the topic of bad characters in HW, yes, there are some characters that have okay combos, but I will maintain they feel much worse to play as than most characters in FEW. Agitha has the beetle charge and the beetle stomp, but I personally feel that getting there feels awkward and clunky. Most characters in FEW have pretty decent tools in the moveset for 1v1s against commanders/bosses, but I don't feel like the HW roster on average has that kind of versatility.
While I get what you're saying, I think that just pressing one or two buttons can get repetitive. The point of the triangle is to force you to strategize. Before the game starts, you hace to check the map and decide who to send where based on their advantages or disadvantages. Also, you can mow other enemies to fill the Awakening counter, and activate it to negate the triangle. It's fun, once you work around it Hitting one enemy repeatedly with barely any effect is not the way to do it. The challenge is finding workarounds.
S-Tier point about being forced to play as specific characters in Hyrule Warriors adventure maps. Played through with some roommates and our different playstyles meant we could more often than not find someone to play a character, but there were some hard walls we ran into and damn Agitha was always a struggle haha. Keep up the great work Shane!
I know you said the Soundtrack part is subjective, and I agree with that. I have some favorites between both games and there’s some I don’t like as much. But a point could have gone to Hyrule Warriors for being able to change the soundtrack of the map, while Fire Emblem Warriors doesn’t let you do that. That said, Focal Line is my personal favorite because it feels like a second wind in song form. Great use of rock and orchestra
I maintain that it's subjective, and that's the quickest way to explain things. However, I would argue that the vertical layered music in FE Warriors (eg. the calm/roar mixes) are more interesting musically than the soundtrack overall in Hyrule Warriors.
yeah the soundtrack in hyrule warriors is more diverse. for example both games a have a rage musou feature or awakening mode. now i love heroic warriors love it but thats all that plays when in awakening mode, hyrule warriors however focus spirit music plays depending the stage you play on each stage has their own version of the focus spirit music which is so good and diverse
Three Hopes needs several videos on its own, but I could probably cross compare the two games, yes. It might just be a bit since I haven't done a video essay in years.
I haven't played a Musou game since Senoku Basara (Demon Kings) back in the PS2 days, decided to go for a full meaty experience that seems to be HW instead of FEW, having a great time but boy the map in HW is a complete cluster fuck, probs because I'm a newcomer but I just can't make left from right, stuff poping all the time and can't get a hold what is a priority target or not, I have lost some of my battles because of it, FEW map looks so clean and sleek.
8:24 That is incorrect. There are NO GOOD OPTIONS for Lances and axes in this mess. If you don't like the Pegasus Knight moveset too bad, there is not even ONE other lance moveset.
I actually really like the Pegasus knight set. It's not as good at dueling as like Chrom or Lucina, but it has great range and a lot of power, especially since C6 breaks guards.
@@astrobollo As you said they are DLC And Azura should've been included in the base game as she was the deuteragonist of Fates. Koei even said prior to the game's release that Frederick used an axe to even out the roster as there would be an armored knight with a Lance. Something Koei never ever added making this the only game to not have Armored Knights.
@@shanevalshane Its bad at dueling as you said and the moveset takes getting used to. Biggest problem of all is that it is the ONLY Lance moveset period without DLC and even then, the lance options are extremely bare. Koei didn't even include Lance Cavalry or Armored units despite both classes appearing in every game and Koei saying before the release the latter would be in as playable. Infact why call them lances at all if no cavalry uses the weapon type? There's no point to the weapon triangle's existence with such a lopsided roster and the game would've been better without it.
A lot of this comes down to opinion, but I did make a point in my videos on clones about a similar gripe with Lance characters in the launch version. The game isn't perfect and some things do feel undercooked, but I still think it's a better game than Hyrule Warriors.
I'm a big fan of both games and series. Personally, I felt like it was very clear that HW had a lot more love put into it. More characters, more different playstyles (even though some aren't as fun (FI) ), the amount of content and the skins. When I was playing HW for a while, where characters have skins shown on an idling 3D model it felt so much more alive than 2 different outfits on a very serious looking FEW character. And here, again, while most HW skins are recolors, it's still better then nothing. I would have loved more customes for FEW. Lastly, what makes FEW borderline unplayable for me is the progress through the (DLC) history mode maps... It goes from lvl 28 to lvl 52 with nothing in between, so instead I have to look on other maps for a stage that fits my level better... Great video and I loved your take!
Just got back into fire emblem warriors from 2016 played Three hopes and both Zelda warrior games a few years back all have their pros and cons did the first 9 levels of the first fire emblem warriors pretty solid ❤❤
For the map portion when he was complaining about not being able to see anything, I was like wtf is he talking about, I see every unit clearly from across the room… but forgot I have 20/13 vision and it clicked why my cousins will ask me questions on battle details ( ._.)
i honestly prefer hyrule warriors (likley because im a bigger fan of zelda than fire emblem however objectivley i would say that both hyrule warrios de and fire emblem warriors are about on par with eachother at least based on everything i do however absolutly disagree with you on the comments made about the playble character. yes some of the characters wont click with everyone however every single playstyle with the exception of great fairy and tingle are enjoyable and have their benifits i personally dont like wizzro but i can see what wizzro brings to the game and why he is a playble character. it is also important to note i dont have any problem with the clone characters as even the clone characters have differences in fe such as stats and personality and a plus for fire emblem is it doesnt have a "best" character which hyrule warriors absolutley does once you unlock the full power of the master sword
Well... this was quite an interesting comparasion between the two games, I do have to say that I do agree with the points but I also dont. Like, I get where this is coming from, music is the most subjective thing ever so honestly that point can just go anywhere according to your prefferences, but I do think that some of the points are like... too convenient I mean, the first points make sense, you want content, you want good movesets, a good performance, a satysfying story. Then we move to the representtion, and while it might seem out of nowhere at first it makes a ton of sense, its adapting existing series so of course you wanna check, but then we go to maps, and my initial tought was about the scenery, only to realize that you literally meant maps "Oh, I see, it makes sense, you play with those maps for a lot, so the one that has better stages has the point- Oh, he's actually talking about the map.... wow..:" like, I get it, its important, but I dont see it as a huge factor, I would if HW map was completely useless but it works well, not great, but fine, you could even make the point that the FE map overwhelms the player, not to dismiss a good minimap, but it really doesn't feel that important in comparasion to movesets, franchise representation or soundtrack, despite how helpful it might be About the movesets, I can see where are you coming, and it depends on person to person, personally thanks to that bs quest for weapons I got used to a lot of characters and ended up loving them, or at least understanding them, like Ruto and Darunia, there are still some I just could never get used to, Lana's portals are too goddamn slow and a pain, but at least the argorok ride is cool, Agitha sucks, I dont care about her good moves, I just hate her, and sorry, but I hate wizzro both as a playable character and as an enemy, as a character he's lame and as an enemy he will take a lot of healt with his godamn purple balls and as his goddamn laser making the path to get A rank incredible annoying, but hyrule warriors still has a case to work in his favor with the hole "clone thing", swordmans like Link, Toon Link, Young Ling and Toon Zelda for instance are all really enjoyable, chances are if you love one you'll at least like the rest, but again, its a point that varies to person to person, everyone finds different characters to be better or worse Back to the review thing, I think it could have made a good point by using more categories, like replay value or stages, which are flaws of Hyrule warriors because of its massive content, I just purchased Hyrule warriors legends to get Linkle an play her story chapters alongside the toon link chapters, but after that I forgot about that version and went back to the wii u, I didn't bought the definitive edition because there's no way Im doing all that shit again, and even getting all the weapons in the wii u was a nightmare, and by that I mean THE STANDAR MAP, not counting the dlc, so its definetly something many would just want to do once and get over it, but its also not possible for those who actually bought the 3 versions. And the stages could've been an easier point, yeah, I can't recall much about Fire emblem warriors stages, but even if HW has more variety, it suffers because it has so much content that these maps end repeating even more, I like some of the maps but even after a good playtrhought I was just tired of the stages in HW because they just keep repeating in pointless filler missions in a fucking ton of 8-bit maps My point is, while I agree with the points made and the review (At least the ones that are not that subjective) I think a better structure of points could have helped it, because the way I see it, even if I get the overall point that FE warriors was in general a more enjoyable and less tedious experience, it looks like Fire Emblem just won because a weird cheap point about a goddamn mini-map in the top of the screen
I want to get Fire Emblem Warriors since i love FE But the fact that they could make a sequel and put Byleth, Dimitri and Edelgard in it makes me wanna wait
I prefer the multiple movesets in hyrule warriors. Sure some like agitha and wizard are not good but I love a majority of the playstyles in hyrule warriors. Link w/sword/gauntlets/spinner/epona zelda w/rapier impa (both styles) ganondorf (both styles) volga, cia, toon link, young link, and especially sheik. (And more) It keeps me playing as if I get sick of one character I play as another. Also.......you can play as a giant cock 🐥.
Years too late for this, but i feel that statement about being forced to play Wizrobe it was the same for Agitha for a while, Then i realized Combo 1 leads into Combo 3 which leads into her special, and i just like Combo 4, the reason i was so against playing her is because i tried to abuse Combo 2 and it was just bad. (Now it's just Wizrobe and Zant. I just flat out didn't get Tingle.) On the note of Combo Abuse, Volga's X Y is Free AF on every character.
As someone who played both games (but hasn’t finished either of them), I’m gonna go with Fire Emblem Warriors for this one. Yes the Weapon Triangle limits the play style in FE, but I have so much freedom with the characters I get to play. You don’t get that in Hyrule, you HAVE to complete a level with a certain character. I believe I am almost done with FE. With Hyrule? *I’m only on the 4th level. That’s fine. It’s only been FIVE YEARS SINCE I GOT THE GAME AND NOW I’M STUCK ON THIS PLANT AFTER BEATING THAT STUPID SPIDER! THAT’S FINE!!!* Ahem. That’s my take on it.
I mean they got better at warriors game with Fire emblem three hopes. I think they could do it. And also they could add dialogues between characters. Like for example Lucina and Zelda. I wonder what would they talk about. And if possible I would like to see Ike in the game. Also imagine Shez (hopes) and Byleth (houses). Not only that but Ganondorf and Tharja. (Or even Azura. I still need to watch revelation though. But wish they could have done her better in her original game.) I have more suggestions about possible things they could add but I'm not going to waste anyone's time anymore. Bye
Loved the video. You're right about some of the Hyrule Warriors characters. I would put a lot more people on my 'characters I like to play as' list but at the same time there are a lot on my 'characters I avoid missions for' on my list as well. Agatha, Imp Midna, Fi, Ghirahim, and Tingle are all characters I just don't enjoy playing. I highly disagree about FEW being overall the better game. I would give the edge to Hyrule Warriors for the soundtrack, I love the metal versions and 8bit remixes, I love the adventure mode music. It's a great compliment to the game because it's just recognizable enough without being distracting. It's simple and fast much like Hyrule Warriors is in general. It helps me ease into the Zelda monster slaying mindset. To me Warriors is about killing massive amounts of bad guys in the shortest amount of time. Hyrule Warrior smashes FEW in that regard. FEW feels so sparsely populated in comparison when it comes to the straight up heart and soul of Warriors games. But I do understand how people would be into FEW more, HW is just more of a quintessentially "Warriors" experience. Wuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu
Hyrule Warriors >> Fire emblem 😁I've spent more time on Hyrule Warriors than any other Wii U game and I think it's above Fire Emblem. The majority of people have a fondness more for the former. Being an undisputed fan of the Zelda universe, I couldn't miss it. Hyrule Warriors music is so much better.
omg I cant disagree more about movesets. Movesets in hyrule warriors are SO GOOD wtf are you even on? They are so satisfying and different, every character feels so different and has so much personality, all moves are so colorfull and good looking and every weapon has mass destruction potential, this looks like a big skill issue for real. On the other side, so many movesets in fire emblem look so similar and play so similar, there is no personality to the character's combat style and no colorfull big moves, just swinging weapons around. my biggest disagree with a video ever
Persona 5 scramble will blow those two games out of the water when it comes to the west if it comes, man it doesn't feel like a warrior game it feels a persona 5 game with a warrior combat, the strongest thing about the game is the story
@@shanevalshane oh woow then i am sorry if u love the warriors games u may not like this one then because it have a lot of story dialogues u will spend 4 to 5 hours just story stuff sometimes, so idk if u r fine I am glad but if u don't I still respect u 👍👍👍

This video killed my family, ruined my marriage, and took my children.
My SINCEREST apologies
Nice video, but I don't agree with Movesets, Game map and Soundtrack, for me those are the best in Hyrule Warriors.
Glad people are still watching the video 5 years later
They should make a crossover.
I believe it's called Super Smash Brothers Ultimate
I mean a crossover between the legend of Zelda and Fire emblem in a warriors style game specifically.
But wish they could have done her better in her original game.)
I have more suggestions about possible things they could add but I'm not going to waste anyone's time anymore. Bye
To think that after story, if hyrule warriors got 1 more point they would automatically win (but they didnt)
Now where does Dragon Quest Heroes fall into these two?
Its better.
They're both still expensive today.
Did you play both
omg I cant disagree more about movesets.
Both must have Musou games for fans.
some fe warriors needs more characters sequel in this game and it's cool.
I'm not sure I understand, but I'd love a sequel too!
@@shanevalshane i hope they development some reveal after the 1st game you know.
That was some broken English.
Dang............ hinestly i love bith of these games. But.... i have to go fire emblem because hyrule warriors has TOO MUCH content.
Persona 5 scramble will blow those two games out of the water when it comes to the west if it comes, man it doesn't feel like a warrior game it feels a persona 5 game with a warrior combat, the strongest thing about the game is the story
I'm REALLY anticipating it. I love the modern Persona games and obviously the Warriors spinoffs are some of my favorite games.
@@shanevalshane oh woow then i am sorry if u love the warriors games u may not like this one then because it have a lot of story dialogues u will spend 4 to 5 hours just story stuff sometimes, so idk if u r fine I am glad but if u don't I still respect u 👍👍👍
I think I'll be okay. I like RPGs as well and this year I've played through Persona 3/4/5.
@@shanevalshane that's amazing ❤️❤️❤️😍😍😍😍 then u r gonna love it it have the same charm as those games, but since p5 is bit serious, P5S is little bit lighthearted like p4 where the phantom thieves have fun and solve the case, but it does have some dark moments
Starting to get worried it may not come out. According to the 2021 financial report, there is no mention of Persona 5 S in Koei Techmo's reports...
Hmmmmmmmm
Gotta say this inaccurate
Heres the score (true) (hyrule left, emblem right)
1-1
Cuz they are games 😎
