I play my other favorite game series like Pokemon and Castlevania over there!
#FEH #FireEmblemHeroes
I wish for the next FE game to have the story depth of Tellius or Three houses and the game play of Engage
The Tellius Games will always be peak Fire Emblem writing. I'm so glad to see that so many people have PoR and Radiant Dawn at the very top of their lists, it's story has aged so well.
This is honestly a nice list. My only change would to put FE4 at the end of God Tier, just cause I think FE4 personally has similarly great writing similar to the Tellius games and while it's gameplay and chapters can be pretty grueling, the fact that each of it's maps can be replicated on a 1:1 scale of the Jugdral world map honestly makes it worth it. That and I'm also just a massive Sigurd fan lol.
And Roy's theme is a banger! I have that song as my ringtone right now cause of how catchy it is.
Tellius series will always be my top faves. I also find Awakening, New Mystery of the Fire Emblem, Blazing Blade and Binding Blade to be great as well.
I’d love to see the fates stream man!
I'm sure it would be entertaining but man... if you thought Shadow Dragon was scraping the bottom of the barrel for Fire Emblem series then Fates is not the bottom, nor below the barrel as it doesn't even deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence with barrels to loosely quote late Roger Ebert. The only people I know who genuinely liked Fates are the ones who never played any other games in the series nor any had any experience with strategy rpgs.
@Silent_Depths well, to be fair, I've heard people say they love the gameplay and just skip all of the cutscenes. I feel a bit bad for the author, cause I heard he was originally approached to write like a 20 page story or something like that and he had no clue what to do, so he played Awakening with his daughter and fell so in love with it playing with her, he ended up writing like 3x as much as was asked of him and it just had to get cut down to bare essentials of the story cause he wrote too much.
But maybe that was just a rumor or fake article going around about the author of it. I think it was in an interview though. I might look it up again after this
I agree that Thracia laid the groundwork for the gba games very well but It did it so well that imo the gameplay in the gba games feels like a regression to me, Thracia has a ton of cool mechanics that were removed in the gba games for hardly anything in exhange, feels as modern as the gba games in terms of ui(I would argue graphics are much better too barring animations) and has really great story/gameplay intergration that I think is unmatched in the series to this day(RD is as close as it gets). The only negative I would give it is that its pretty impossible blind and arguably more fun with a guide or on a 2nd playthrough. agree with your list overall especially Tellius in godtier.
Came for the tier list, stayed for the spyro soundtrack
Something I don't know you've caught onto Tacho, is that the Japanese transliterations of Greek and Latin words are pretty faithful to their native languages. Thrakia is Greek for Thrace, I believe, so "Torakia" in Japanese. Also in English, seeing the letters "ci" together and pronounced as a "k" is rare and kinda awkward, so the more common "s" pronunciation is used instead. Also, the dog Cerberus from mythology is pronounced like "Kerberus" in Latin, and in Japanese, it's "keruberos."
Let’s go i’m so down for this kind of video thank u goat
Man it makes me SOOOO happy to see Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn at the top. I remember I was in EB games when I was 9 (when radiant dawn was released) and Radiant Dawn was discounted for like 8$ Canadian and the art looked cool so my mom got it for me as an extra game. Low and behold it is now my favourite game of all time without a doubt (and I’ve played a lot even gone pro in WoT). The added bonus is my best friend got Raidant Dawn IN THE EXACT SAME WAY and we still talk about it to this day. Makes it even more special knowing there were so few copies in NA
Nice to see SoV, GotHW, Blazing Blade, Sacred Stones & Binding Blade ranked so high in their respected ranks.
I’m a latecomer to Fire Emblem and started with 3H then spent a year and a half playing all of the other FE mainline games back to back.
I will say after playing all of the mainline games, I’m in the same boat that the Tellius duology is my favorite out of all of the games. There is just something magical about those two games that hasn’t been matched.
My take on FE11 Shadow Dragon is way different from yours. My hot take is that I would recommend FE11 as one of the best games for beginners of this series to get into. PoR would be another game I would recommend for first timers as well if you can find a way to play it.
26:03 whoa whoa whoa whoa WHOA!!! NEVER seen it this low before.....
26:19 ...... and now we are back to the standard placement for it. Intresting.
You forgot to mention that you could send completed data from PoR to RD to get even more back story from characters and a few buffs to Ike's already busted team. (and a possible blessing for Sothe on hard mode)
Another reason why the Tellius series still reigns supreme!
I get why people didn't love the split parties in Radiant Dawn... but it felt so good when the boiz came together at the end, and you could assemble your dream squad.
Please be clickbait
edit it wasn’t clickbait
Seeing thumbnail: Oh, this is going to be a fun video. 😏😏😏
After video: Tellius FOR THE WIN, BABY!!! 🥳🥳🥳
So binding blade is balanced. Like how Roy is usable, like Bors, like Wendy, like Sophia, like Lot, like Wade, like Barthe, like Wolt, like Dorothy, like Trec, like Noah, like cath, like Cecilia, and like Hugh.
Also bosses like Henning, Gel, and Monke.
No the game is not balanced at all. Most of the cast is unusable trash
That's why its balanced, you aren't being carried by outrageous growth rates on everything lol
Strategy comes first
@@tacho9427 I guess, but there bases are also bad. With the game being so inaccurate it is hard to use anyone aside from the very good ones
Thank you for not ignoring Tokyo Mirage Sessions at the very least. Most people just completely disregard it because of its gameplay, but that's what the developers went into the design attempting to do.
29:51. HOLY CRAP!!!!! Honestly.... i thought i was the only one who liked this game that much....
Hahaha you're completely right about Sacred Stones, in fact it was my first fire emblem game ever way back when I was a kid and let me tell you: this is the only fire emblem game that I played without knowing anything about it at all and still managed to finish it.
I remember very vividly that I reached the final map and for the first time I was wondering: where is my boy Arthur? I need him because he seems to do a lot of damage vs. monsters... not realizing he died a chapter ago, I FAILED to understand FE concept of perma death and STILL managed to beat the game LMAO, I just deployed whoever every chapter and still beat it, so in that sense, FE8 is probably the best game for beginners imo.
Crazy that losing Arthur was the catalyst to finally understand what perma death was, he was such a strong unit in F8, sadly FEH hasn't been kind to him(prfless seasonal 5 stars curse) and probably never will.
Here I come with a hot take of mine: I'm not really a huge fan of the Tellius games and they're overrated.
I know I know, sacrilege, but hear me out:
I mean, I do like FE9 a lot, I think the story in that game is probably the best one of the series, especially since they truly took advantage of the upgraded software and added scenes(and voice acting... shame on you pokemon), they used them to great effect: the intro, Ike's training, Ike's loss, the fight vs the black knight, those enhanced the experience overall, the story is pretty good too, humans vs Laguz is fascinating specially since they showed us the conflict from both perspectives, and watching Ike's journey to become a competent leader even bickering with some of his teamates is very refreshing for the series, the characters are also pretty memorable too, Titania is probably my favorite Jagen(sorry Seth), it's a power trip with these characters, they're not only strong(specially Greil, wtf this guy nerfed himself up just to blend between mortals lmao) but also cool, I could keep gushing about the game story more but you get the idea, the story, characters and soundtrack in FE9 are top notch, Ike not being a noble is also a first fot the series, while not perfect(mainly because it makes certain events where people join forces with him less believable and too plot convinient because ofc they need to join he's the main guy after all) it was a refreshing take.
But... this is ultimately... a GAME, and here is where FE9 stumbles and have a lot of issues: awful pacing, turns take an eternity even without animations, you can literally make dinner in enemy phase... just for them to kill one of your units and replay it over and over again, the game is such as slog, also the graphics haven't aged well, they're not shadow dragon awful but it's close which is jarring coming from a gamecube game, they added some good quality of life features like the forge(I think) and barracks exp, but overall the gameplay is ass, only for FE fans or just people that play games only for their stories.
I see FE9 as the exact opposite of FE Fates, Fates has probably the worst story ever, but the gameplay part is so good and addictive that you don't mind the story as much, again the exact opposite of FE9.
But what if you have not so good story, characters and slightly better graphics? You got Radiant Dawn of course, jack of all trades master of none that's radiant dawn, the new characters aside from Micaiah and maybe Pelleas are basically not existent and the story starts good but as soon as Ike returns it basically becomes a generic anime where our heroes have to defeat the bad godlike figure, what a waste, and ofc the graphics are slightly better but the pacing somehow got WORSE, now you don't only have to endure the enemy phase but ALSO the ally phase(in some maps... Elincia ones for the most part argh) that last an eternity combined.
In conclusion, the Tellius games have great story, great characters and that's cool and all but people forget how dreadful to play these are, gameplay is as important if not more important to a videogame than the lore and characters themselves, people saying that these games are masterpieces are probably: nostalgic, never played these at all or have little to no experience playing other rpgs.
You know, i kind of agree. I played path of radiance once and i wasn't able to go for a second run due to how long turns felt, even without combat animations. The game also doesn't really offer any sort of real difficulty (outside of maniac which is unfun and even slower) and if im being honest while por has a very wide variety of intersting characters, i couldn't bring myself to care about some, like elincia or important villains like bk and ashnard. I wouldn't say is a bad game but people seem to forget about it's flaws while somehow ranting about fe4 being slow.
@Bike-chan Great to see someone else on the internet that doesn't like these games as much too, these games are extremely overrated that I always question in my mind: did you REALLY play these games?
Games have to be fun or at least fun enough(rpgs usually fall into this category for obvious reasons) to be considered "perfect" or "masterpieces " lore and characters aren't enough, this isn't a movie, having fun is kinda subjective ofc, but waiting is not fun in any circumstance and these games have a LOT of that.
AVGN has been hit or miss as of late, but his take on Majoras Mask is spot on for what games are supposed to be in the end, and I subscribe to that idea at heart.
Don't think you can blame Three Houses for money grabs of FEH, but it's understandable. Also Blue Lion is by far the best route.
Like you, the Tellius games are my favorites.
But
I think FE7 has, by far, one of the most well done villains in any game - backstory, motivations, etc. (vs the typical take over/destroy the world motivations). The only negative, for some, is that you have to play through the Hector route AND not miss the Gaiden chapter requirements.
-so it's easily missed by most as it is on a second playthrough with hoops to jump through
-but the entire story hits way differently after you know (generic bad guy turns into tragic figure)
That doesn't fly now, but, at the time, most of us played through good games multiple times...most didn't have the overwhelming backlog we do now.
I stopped with the new games when Houses was revealed to be a persona style relationship manager/school sim...I want no part of that nonsense.
TMS is an absolute blast, and I can't recommend it enough. The gameplay and battle system is super fun. The dungeons are far from the best I'll be real, but they are rewarding when you complete them, and the story isn't breaking any new ground, but it's fun and the characters are incredible. Their own side stories enough would have made an awesome game. Seriously worth a playthrough.
I seriously don't get the shadow dragon hate. maybe Im bias since it was my introduction to the fire emblem series as a teen but i genuinely enjoy the game and Marth as a character. Plus it was one of the first online pvp fire emblem game. was it good? no but im sure it inspired the game mode summoner duels
If its your first one, then I can get why you might like it, but its such a regression from all the other localized entries. A lot of the features that had been building upon and improving the series were just... not there
New Mystery at the very least improved on all fronts from Shadow Dragon and was actually a decent game.
when we get everyone on this same track this franchise is going somewhere
Plus I hope you come around on FE5 it really is a phenomenal game
Engage above 3H is very based. Tacho cooked hard with this tier list
Sacred stones should be in amazing tier. Is the only one until today that has certain classes. Also had the wyvern knight. Amazing game
I'd love to see a TMS playthrough. It's so different and has so little fire emblem, and the story is completely not fire emblem, but, for what it is, I adore the gameplay and the logic of performative arts being the modern day equivalent to ancient rituals to explain the main characters power actually made a lot more sense than whatever bullshit I had expected them to come up with. Hate that the western release is censored in ways that mess with some character arcs, but it worked enough for the most part, and the songs are some of the best j-pop in gaming, at least among games I've played
Other than FE6's high placement, this is a pretty based and respectable tier list
Is it just me or am I unable to hear audio?
Or is RUclips being dumb?
Definitely down for a Conquest playthrough. It's not really fair that "Fates" is considered 1 game since there is only one chapter of overlap unlike Three Houses. Personally, Conquest has my favorite gameplay and music. Every map has an interesting gimmick, and it's probably the hardest one since FE6. Birthright is the polar opposite and the most flat game in the series since FE1.
Ok, i am going to hop in into the bandwagon that Tacho should stream FE Fates playthrough.
24:04 accurate to call it persona, fire emblem edition, though instead of a high school or phantom theives, you got a talent group for japanese pop music who secretly battles monsters that steal talent and creativity.... and people. Yeah its a little messed up, but it is pretty fun.
Love the spyro music!
So 3 Hope's is what modern Warriors games actually go for. They're all alternate versions of stories or non-canon sequels to events (except for maybe the Persona 5 one, but they dropped Warriors from that title because of that).
As someone who hated Fire Emblem Warriors because I felt like it was only a celebration of 3 Fire Emblem games when it was sold as a series celebration, and I also couldn't stand the writing, as it delved more into the anime tropes that I felt stole away from the historical tone of the franchise as a whole, I ended up loving 3 Hopes. Just like Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, it was a cool what-if story. I did end up having to drop the game cause I was getting too invested in it and my wife was getting pissed at me for literally not hearing her at all while I played for hours on end. But I came away feeling so much better about it than FE Warriors 1. It wasn't a series celebration like the original semi-succeeded in being. It was a celebration of 1 entry, like other modern Warriors games, and that let the story be more focused, and, while not excellent, was at least coherent enough (at least from the first half or so that I played) to justify the gameplay. Plus the strategy elements put into the game to order units around and permadeath being introduced into the Warriors system really gave it so much more engaging depth than other games. Sure, you could always just switch which character you were controlling to make any ordered combat encounters trivial under your own mashing and dodging, but when you had 2 or 3 encounters going on at a time, I always felt like I was on the move and preparing units to get where they needed to be to complete everything that needed to be done.
That said, it definitely needed new game+ and post-game content like the original FEW and HW. Age of Calamity had the same issue that I beat everything long before I even unlocked all the things I wanted to unlock. Really sucks when games end before you can use all the really cool things you spent the entire game unlocking
Would recommend fe 12. Kris has his moments sure, but the gameplay and overall story is a much greater remaster of shadow dragon. It's like comparing pokemon crystal to heart gold and soul silver
So I am in the ultra minority here in that I've never played a Fire emblem game other than FEH since I am just a degen gacha player. I'm going to give Path of Radiance a playthrough you talked me into it with that praise and I want to see how it compares to my favorite rpg which is ff7. I'll let you know if it sucks or not.
Now THIS is the content we’re here for. As for my favorite, it has to be 3H for being the game that got me into the series.
Hey Tacho have you played Devil Survivor? I heard you mention SMT in this video and its the true SMT x Fire Emblem crossover!
Thumbnail got me tilted and i aint even watched the video yet xD lol
Conquest is probably the best route for gameplay, since birthright isn't really hard overall and revelation is a gimmick land
9:52 goated cousin
Completely agree. Shadow dragon literally almost made me quit Fire Emblem entirely
Thracia & Heroes are my fav
I would do this… IF I COULD PLAY THESE GAMES!! (I know there are ways to play them but I’d rather just be able to play them on my switch)
Path of radiance for sure!!!
Half the difficulty in fe6 hard mode is just making your units much much worse than enemies and using ambush spawns and other mechanics to blindside you.
I think if you want to talk about a game that’s a lot more fair about defining its difficulty you look at any of the difficulties in conquest or engage
I, too got into fire emblem because of smash. I think fe 7 is an ideal fe game. The only way imo to make fe 8 hard was when my friend and I did a draft iron man run. Crimson flower is the type of story we need in a full game. I agree that engage is peak gameplay. But the story is laughable.
Same corrin looked so cool 😂
@@KirbvI'm talking brawl
Yeah I'm glad that Crimson Flower was the only path I did, its the most unique one to my understanding
@@tacho9427 it's the best but unfortunately the shortest for some reason. Coincidence I think not
You want a harder FE8 experience? Check out the rom hack Mekkah is finishing right now... you don't choose to follow one of the twins, you follow BOTH and have to split the units to follow each of them. It's the most fun I had with FE8!
I can assure you that if you want to play something resembling Fire Emblem, TMS fe is not going to be close. It is much closer to SMT games with a less interesting plot. It's ok if your two favorite game series are persona and fire emblem... but I did not really enjoy it.
i have to say while i love awakening lunatic plus in that game is probably the worst "difficulty" i have ever seen in my entire live and probably will ever see. it is literally up to luck if chapters are beatable and even lunatic becomes quite miserable towards the end of the game when they jus cap out all enemy stats when you had barely enough exp to get 1 unit to 1v1 these monsters not even talking about beating an entire map. without robin nosferatu i don't think that lunatic is fun after the halfway mark
now fates on the other hand is this game i've started to realize just how good designed that game is
ps.: echoes is ass probably the worst fire emblem game ever made this is not up for debate. it is the only game in my entire life i have started and not finished
Suppose this is purist but I only truly like Kaga's vision (the original creator of the series who left Nintendo after Thracia) for Fire Emblem so his Saga series will always be superior to any Emblems made after Holy War. I don't mean the Emblem games are bad as most of them are decent but none of them save for Awakening feel like Fire Emblem to me. I gave up on the series after the disaster that was Fates since it ruined any hope Awakening had brought back. At least Kaga is still making games and a rival Sakura Wars series is alive and enjoyable for what it achieves.
Fe3h in pretty good is pretty good, considering u chose the wrong route
10:56 😂😂😂
Engage above 3H, you love to see it. The Engage gameplay was just too satisfying over 3H and the 3H story while better than Engage for sure, I felt that game had too many wasted opportunities story and gameplay wise. No supports between the 3H lords might be one my biggest gripes with it, it's such a shame that no Claude/Edelgard support line exists, these two had great chemistry.
Also happy to see Binding Blade so high up, it's my favorite of all the FE games and is overdue for a remake and maybe even a little reimagining. Making Guinivere playable and separating the stories between Roy's army and Guinivere's rogues like in Echoes would go a long way. Could even add a Lyn ancestor to Gunivere's route as reference to FE7.
Fe3 is SNES
Like gameplay of engage but dropped the game because the story was just awful and the main character and a number of side characters were just terrible.
Engage > 3H lol
Hating on Shadow Dragon is the great unifier of the FE community.
I feel like this tier list is only based on gameplay cuz Engage has probably one of the worst stories in the entire series. Three Houses may be long-winded and story heavy but at least the story was great. Engage had the gameplay down but its story is so terrible it made it feel like a slog.
You kidding? It felt like a return to the classic gba games, and a bit of a love letter to the series on the whole.
