Although I wasn’t pleased you ruining my work, me and my coworkers had the time of our life looking at you getting stuck in the ditch and your struggle to get out. For your information: the construction drawings for some new dams are already there. The actual build starts next week. Cheers.

    • @FattyMatty024
      @FattyMatty024 4 года назад

      When you pull yourself you pick up the leading edge of the tracks to get up on things. In this situation you would just push yourself deeper especially in the bottom of a drainage ditch. I’m wet mud like that suction is your worst enemy.

    • @AFHProjects
      @AFHProjects  4 года назад

      @@FattyMatty024 Yeah, that's right. I know that well but as you see I didn't do that enough when I was going into the ditch. I realized this immediately when I reached the bottom and I knew that now probably I get stuck. I broke the bottom of the ditch with the tracks leading edge.

    Were the beaver dams causing damage to homes or roadways? Can you maybe explain why destroying their habitat was necessary?

    • @AFHProjects
      @AFHProjects  4 года назад +2

      Here we needed to remove the dam because we raised the water with pond dam and we didn't want to leave the dams under the water. Basically we removed the dams and raised water back up. So beavers got more water to live on.

    Having no experience whatsoever, I have a curiosity question. If it were permissible, once stuck, would it have been possible to dig the opposing bank down to the level, maybe lower, of the stuck machine? Dig under the front tracks and place the drier dirt there for a base? Do this until the tracks could get traction and clear of the mud? Is what I described even possible? I know you were relieved once you got out. Thanks for posting.

    • @AFHProjects
      @AFHProjects  4 года назад +2

      It is possible. But in this case the water is flowing through and fills the hole. But we dug out the wet clay all the time and put the dry dirt back under the tracks. Basically we did this way.

  • @RoySATX

    I'm not a machine operator, haven't even played one on TV, but I have owned pickups (and a '91 Ford Festiva, my personal favorite) that I've gotten mudded up pretty deep before. Floor mats and dry brush always saved the day. I got the Festiva in a couple situations far worse than you have here where everyone was telling me to give it up and let it RIP as it was already mostly buried, but that silly smurf blue car never let me down and always managed to dig itself out once I sacrificed the floor mats and fed it some scrub brush! Don't tell the ladies, but we know it's all worth it if you're having fun.

Especially companies that like to hire inexperienced “cheap” “operators”. 😂 when I first started in the field I worked for a few of those companies. I got to see a LOT of crazy things happen. Drug addicts blacking out at the controls of excavators. One guy slumped over the swing stick and was spinning wide open for hours. Cops came. They tried throwing rocks at the cab to wake him up. Didn’t work. 😂 he finally woke up and stopped. Cop ran up and opened the door. Guy had a needle in his arm. Scary stuff.

    it is pretty funny after the fact when it is not happening to you. I did something similar with an excavator a couple times. I noticed how you tried to pull yourself out the way you came. When i had done it my first time I only went about half as far as you were extended, dug my bucket blade in and lifted as high as i could go up before pulling while driving. Repeat as needed. Once my tracks were about a quater on dryer soil i swung around and pushed while driving. A lot less damage. But I can kinda see that the back of your machine might not have made it acceptable.

It looks like that machine has weak hydros but if its possible in a situation like that for a last resort is to lift your machine completely up onto the counter weight , rotate your rails 90 degrees and walk down the ditch till you can dig your way up the bank

Stay safe and take care
