The basics of Kenshi combat is that almost every enemy is stronger than your squad, so attacking 1v4 is a way to kill yourself faster, since the enemy is so absolutely stronger than your party that they'll probably miss every single hit. Weak characters in kenshi can be completely ignored by stronger characters.

About the whole currency discussion, there's a great game called Eco that's basically an economy simulator. Every player on the server is trying to stop a meteor from hitting the world within 30 days, and players must specialize into different roles to make goods to advance. However, to do your trade, you need materials made by other players, so servers will need to create a functioning economy and establish a currency. Sometimes players get so focused on making money that they completely forget about the meteor.
Man I'm so glad we live in a world where people are smart enough to not ignore massive impeding ecological crises and instead focus on selfish accumulation of wealth ahahahaha
Actually silver was the common trade currency, gold was for city/nation level trading generally. Silver was like the 20 dollars, gold was like 10-20~ times that depending on era, often for a small coin or amount. Pre-coins it was shillings or shavings of silver, even see this in The Holy Bible.

20:49 Yes, it's usually that when it comes to LARGER groups. Smaller groups are usually more instinct/ emotion driven, and if the skin bandits have a spare evening (which they often do in the middle of the desert), sadistic tendencies, and a captive of no further use, then they can resort to recreational torture. Most folks are not goal/ logic driven tbh.
Not to mention there robots albeit insane robots (I'm pretty sure). who knows what goes through the head of an insane robot. thinking like they would act like humans and well manage their time in a similar way is ridiculous. And not to mention since they are robots they should have a lot more free time since they don't have to spend their time cultivating a field and others time-consuming tasks it takes to sustain normal meat bags.
Plus the lore behind them is that their leader is actually the only one who is sane! He corrupted their CPUs which made them think they all are humans. So they start wearing human skin because they think it magically regrowing! Skeletons in the lore tend to enthrall each other from time to time. Kenshi really has good lore behind why everything as it is now.
I mean the stat differences between species have nothing to do with race because well they are completely different species all together with different physical strength and weaknesses. I mean one is literally a robot. An another one is a hive mind type humanoid alien species. Therefore it'd be kind of ridiculous to think an they wouldn't think, act and do things differently to humans therefore have different strengths and weaknesses on a whole barring few outliers and exceptions.
It's funny when people get uncomfortable at this sort of thing, significantly different lifeforms are liable to think differently. Predator versus prey species, give both sentience and you can make a few guesses as to which thinks more aggressively. It only compounds in craziness when assuming alien life would think in the same way.

10:06 What Sseth means is that a simple attack move isnt a good option for combat. For game balance, it limits the number of concurrent attacks and also fixes the fighter positions to the four cardinal directions. You can get the mod that 'fixes' that problem but that would mean hell for the early game because you are only one and they are many. Just one alpha strike of a gang of bandits on a modded 'fixed' game can kill all of your characters. Also makes the wildlife more deadly as they will zerg rush your characters if they are not limited by the mook mechanics of attacking one by one.
Its an ingenious way to make brutal but surprisingly balanced combat. Like keeping one guy on agro and another party member acting as crossfire with a ranged weapon.

18:00 This is why we use the term 'deface'. To deface something originally meant to take the face off of currency or statues. It was incredibly disrespectful and was part of why you put your ruler's face on a coin. If you wanted to drill out some of the metal or tamper with it you'd need to mar the face of a ruler, which was a big crime.

I think you'd dig Jagged Alliance 2 (with the big ol mod). It was a turn-based strategy game where you manage a group of mercenaries sent to an island to get rid of the despotic monarch ruling it. Linking up with the freedom fighters and all that. You have to do a bit of territory management to keep the cash flowing while deploying your team(s) of mercenaries (all very interesting people with different skill sets and love/hate for one another) and fighting tactical turn-based battles with the forces of the government's more or less hired military. I'm sure there's all sorts of vids on the game out there to give ypu an idea how it goes. It's an oldie, but a definite goodie.

10:16 what Sseth means by "gang up on an enemy" is getting into a nice group-hug in front of an enemy because a single swing can hit multiple targets if it connects, usually by accident. In fact the preferred method of fighting inside the game is exactly what you say would realistically be the preferred method; attacking the same enemy from multiple angles continuously. Numerical advantage does still exist in the game since it's impossible to block literally every swing from 6 dudes, but the game focuses much more on character skills rather than bigger group always winning.
Well, the crossover I never expected. Kenshi is such a great game of you're a masochist that enjoys getting kicked down until you become stronger. Probably the most atmospheric game I've played.
I suffered blood loss once. My spleen committed Seppuku one afternoon as I changed the tires on my truck. I went into my kitchen for dinner and promptly fell out. An ambulance, surgery, and ICU later and I was ok. Lost 5+/- pints of blood internally not knowing, which is why I finally fell out from my BP dropping. It took 7 pints to get me back to functional. I'm told I'm severely immune compromised now, but since that happened (5 years ago), and except for a flu I had in December, I haven't had even a cold. hWeird.
12:35 one thing to note, pre-currency, while between settlements they may have bartered, within settlements they usually used the trust (aka social credit) system
Notable, waking back up, is generally due to getting ko'd by taking a powerful hit to a critical system (like getting smacked in the head so hard you blacked out for a few seconds). KO from blood loss is almost always guaranteed to be fatal without help to stop the bleeding. Some races have more time due to one reason or another, but even they can die from it. it just might take them 3-4 minutes to bleed out instead of the 20-30 seconds it might take for a human with the same severity of injury.
12:00 "Ancient societies" or "primitive societies" is probably what you're looking for to describe what you mean by "no civilised societies". As in societies can be very primitive, but also civilised at the same time. IE, the African Bush Tribe in the awesome African film from probably the 80's or 90's "The Gods Must Be Crazy". BTW, check that film out, because it starts off as a documentary to set the scene, then becomes a really good family friendly action, comedy, drama, adventure film. Just one non family friendly bit at the start is that the tribes women are bear chested, because their tribes women, and it's hot weather in Africa. That can just be blurred out for RUclips if you wanna do a reaction to that awesome African movie. I've heard from the missionaries though, that nowadays their are very few of those tribes left.

Ok 10:09 due to how the physics engine works, if a swing or thrust or any attack connects or touches the model of a character in-game, it will dead damage to said character. The most optimal way to fight having 2vs1 or 3vs1 depending of the enemy, keeping in mind weapons used, moveset and coordination and positioning.
From anthropology, direct "this for that" barter is actually pretty uncommon in non-state societies. (If you want to distinguish between levels of social organization, one scale going from least complex/hierarchical to most is band, "big man", chiefdom, and state. Some people add "family" before band for very dispersed hunter-gatherer societies.) Most function on a gift economy, with relationships and obligations being important, and people giving resources as gifts. There is reciprocity, gifts are expected to be met with gifts, but the timing and medium of the exchange is loosely defined. Barter is mostly done with outsiders, where there isn't a relationship of trust. Reputation tends to be paramount here, with being "stingy" being a very negatively perceived trait. There is also debate on more indirect forms of gift economies, where giving generously to those who can't pay you back is good for your reputation and can be economically beneficial in times of strain.
As someone who has been burned by a Blue Yeti in the past, I recommend making a switch to a dynamic microphone instead of a condenser mic like the Yeti. It isn't a racial hierarchy, it's a species one. Species are not equal. A dolphin is smarter than a rat. Come on dude. In a sci-fi universe you ALWAYS have differences highlighted between people. This isn't bad, it's good. Quit trying to enforce everyone being the same. "Oh no the Shek are not a very rational species, this is bad!" This sort of shit gets under my skin.
I hate these half-hearted attempts influential people try to pull onto their media form. I just couldn't get into BNA. Like seriously? Your first major plot is inequality...... in species. What an edge of your chair moment when they try this stuff. Remember the Khajiits in TES: SKYRIM? Yeah, the whole thing about them not letting them into major villages like Whiterun etc? Where does it go? Absolutely nowhere. Even if your race IS a Khajiits, you can still easily enter. If you cant properly do develop and expand upon a point to be effective, gripping, and working to achieve a specific purpose why try at all. Such shabby writing quality. I'm pretty sure while the heads of the company in these games were blackout drunk, they mumbled some crap about a tough and difficult to talk about such as inequality. But failed to get decent pacing then why try? So infuriating. I remember when this guy wanted to emotionalize people in Cod: Ghosts. A call of duty game. An fps. A platform is infamous for its disadvantage for not usually giving characters enough relatable screen time for the viewer to give a crap about its characters. Red dead redemption 1 and 2. Modern Warfare 2, Black ops 2 and Telltale The Walking Dead 1. And Detroit Became Human (maybe) are some games I can think of that can pull off emotional effects in video games pretty well. MW2 and BO2 are the only cod black sheep in this case. When shit hit the fan in those games you usually care about its characters to an extent. But when others try it they miserably. I hope you enjoyed my rant. I've busted 10 veins in the process of writing this trying to rationalise their motives.
This may be true, but at the same time it gets into deeper questions about sentience, if sentience is the same across species, and if different sentient species would "think differently", and that gets into arguments that used to be used to "scientifically" justify racism, so pardon people if they may be uncomfortable with the assumption of "These sentient beings are different from us and how we think on a base level." Also, they call them races in Kenshi, and there absolutely is prejudice and herierarchy in Kenshi. It's why your starting species can matter so much. Also, considering the lore of the game, it could easily be and even to a point hinted at that Shek are a offshoot of humans, and the Hivers and Skeletons have, as far as I know, little lore about where exactly they come from, so that could easily be the case for them as well.
@@isimiel3405 Just saying "Well it could be true so just get over it" is both unhelpful and dumb. Yeah it could be true, or it could not be true. 11:00 to be honest in history there have been plenty of records of quality winning over quantity, two examples which come to mind are the battle of watling street in 61 ad where romans lead by Gaius Suetonius Paulinus counting 10.000 troops won aginst 230.000 british barbarians lead by Boudica. Or a more modern example could be the battle of Caporetto, when the italian army found themselves against germans instead of austrians, italians and austrians when it comes to military power were quite balanced, but when the much more advanced and organized germans arrived on the battlefield, the italian army was pushed back 195 kilometers from its original positions.
On the subject of money, err... not quite. Barter is what you get as a stop-gap when an existing currency system breaks down or perhaps doesn't scale up sufficiently for whatever reason. Before the development of currency, Between groups you instead get Gift economies. Gift economies are basically trading on reputation: you'd give people stuff you had spare when you encountered them and they needed it, in confidence that they'd reciprocate... and if they Didn't do so, they got a reputation for that, and people started avoiding them, driving them off rather than giving them things, or just attacking them and taking their stuff instead, because they couldn't be trusted to reciprocate friendly interactions. Note that such interactions generally Did take ability into account. Someone not giving you something because they didn't have any is quite different from hoarding (which isn't the same as stockpiling resources for, say, winter). Meanwhile, within groups you get collective ownership for most items instead. Roughly.
Yeah, about food. Both the 2nd and 3rd Empires in-game essentially Fell/Are-Falling because of Food. The 2nd Empire (run by Skeletons) heavily relied on hydroponics to feed the human population but a massive explosion took out the power grid and they were unable to restore it, leading to increasing unrest that resulted in a brutal crack down on the humans that ultimately resulted in them rising up and overthrowing the 2nd Empire (the skeletons helped as well since some were appalled at what the Emperor was doing and began helping the humans leading to him cracking down on dissident skeletons as well, before eventually just deciding the whole mess was pointless and disappearing along with his most loyal subordinates and soldiers, while most of the other remaining skeletons fled to the Black Desert and founded a city of their own due to just wanting to nothing to do with humanity's bullshit anymore (the Black Desert is one of the most inhospital locations in Kenshi, with a large sections of it even called the Deadlands because nothing organic can survive there for long and even the less hostile areas are filled with extremely lethal clouds of gas that billow up from the ground randomly). The 3rd Empire (the United Cities), was a collection of Scorchlander Tribes who had settled in the remains of the 2nd Empire and via the Trader's Guild (who had made bank off the war-profiteering but were starting see newer and better markets in the West and realized the current local issues were now impeding their profits) were convinced to Confederate in order to stop wasting resources fighting each other, forming a relatively successful society not too much unlike our own (cough in the 1820s). Until a famine hit, and then Venge became nearly impossible to cross, cutting the UC in half (most of the UC farms were in the southern region, since the Eastern region where the core is has very little arable land), leading to a wide spread famine that caused the Red Rebellion after the nobles started hoarding more and more resources for themselves. This led to the UC criminalizing almost everything as a capital offense (including being poor, starving, and homeless), punishable by slavery, which the large noble-owned slave plantations getting huge influxes of workers and gradually pricing out all the privately held farms and businesses, who were in-turn unable to pay their taxes and were enslaved as well. the Empire is now a powder keg teetering on the edge of collapse with a lot of the remaining Freemen joining the Rebel Farmers faction, while they're also being assaulted by the Anti-Slavers faction in the South (who may or not have helped cause the Red Rebellion by attacking their trade convoys). And then some idiot fucking noble in Bast (the western most Trade hub that deals with imports from the Holy Nation), did SOMETHING (we don't know what) that pissed off the Holy Nation so much, they sent in a Wrath of God extermination army and burned the entire region to the ground, cutting them off from the supplies they'd been receiving from trade with the Holy Nation (and allowing the Cannibals tribes from the north that the Bast region's forces had previously kept sealed up to start expanding and raiding deeper into UC territory).
Regarding the 1vs1 combat You just shouldnt clump up to much since (for balancing reasons) only 1 person can attack at once thought you can still surround a enemy (and its a good idea) since there are rougly 4 directions you can be in from a enemy and then you mostly take turns attacking/defending (you getting a bunch of attacks out while he only gets to attack once) while not being close eneught to each other so a single attack hits a bunch of your people Thought Differences in skill species and weaponry can change the equation a bit (a Leviathan for example is giant and you can surround him with many more people then lets say a Bonedog) and well different species or attacks have different attack "areas" TLDR Surrounding works just dont clump up since that does hinder more then it helps
22:29 starsector does this, if you have a colony and any significant share of a valuable market, even your friends will send armies to disrupt your industries
25:35 a huge aspect of the holy nation is their belief in the "second extinction". basically, they believe that if they don't hunt down every last agent of narko (their unholy figure), then those people will eventually exterminate all of humanity. the thing is that it's significantly easier to be an agent of narko than it is to not be an agent of narko, and the holy nation is basically at odds with every other major faction in the game so prayer day isn't about forcibly converting you as it is you convincing the holy nation that you're NOT a pack of rabid animals that needs to be put down for the good of all men
In Kenshi there is actually a Cap on how useful numbers are, there is a set limit how many people can attack one at the same time, for best Efficiency you only have that many in a group. Any Additional Characters on top of that will either Attack someone else or if they have the same target will stand around the Group thats fighting and watch them until one gives there Attack Slot free and the two can change Roles. So if you got 20 people vs 1 then a few of them will actually fight and the rest just spectate, so no actual advantage of having as many friendly/ally as possible. On top of that, if the difference in Skill is big enough even if you got 5 of your own People Attacking one it will look like a fight out of Matrix where the one moews down all 5 with no issues, usually still some Injury but if the difference gets big enough in the right Skill sets he can literally Dodge every single attack and get out without taking a single hitpoint of Damage.

It's a western game from the end of the 90s, which can only mean that it has no restrain on how deep they're going with its mechanics. The game is a micro managing mercenary HR simulator that plays like XCOM but good. The point is to hire a bunch of mercs ranging from professional contract killers to batshit insane people that can without any questions kill civilians, including children, if ordered to. The Goal of the game is to venture south on the map, and preferably conquest town that are under the rule of a dictator, and train militia so you can leave it be and continue your quest to spread peace by killing hundreds of solidiers on your way to the capital, and most of your plans goes wrong because you account most of your mercs behavior if you hire idiots or just mercs that don't like each other, because they were written to be highly opinionated and aware of wtf the player is doing.

Actually about methods of fighting: No, you CAN set let’s say 5 on 1 (because in mods it’s maximum amount of ppl who can attack one target both for player and for NPC’s) but on early game you as soft as bread and as weak as grass so even 10 starving almost naked bandits with just metal pipes can beat up your squad, and I need to mention that hunger affect on how good your condition to fight. So you can outnumber some of your enemies, but only if they as strong as you at the moment, or a little bit stronger, but not strong enough to catch up five strikes from 5 different directions. For example there is fogmans. They are bugmans that goes insane and became cannibals, they usually attack at least in number of 40 in one squad and simply outnumber your party and you can survive only if you strong enough to one shot them without getting a hit from others or your squad is also as big as they, but there always several other squads of fogmans around and because if that best tactic is retreat to nearest city because your HP not endless, but they almost are endless.
I've played Kenshi. It's fun to start from level one nobody, good at nothing, with nothing and slowly build your team. Then build a city is pretty amazing. Next I want to try project genesis which is a collection of mods that adds many new areas and things to do in the wasteland. Love the vid.
Not sure if you will see this but if you decide to do a video on SS13, I would recommend Mandalore’s video over Sseth. Even though it is outdated it is a bit better for beginners and makes things easier to understand
I would personally think that the attacking one at a time thing would for me be more about having people left to carry wounded home without being too messed up.
If you don't know what the Def Jam series is I can explain it: Imagine Quentin Tarantino teaming up with the directors of every living in the hood parody movie ever made to make a movie about rappers getting so sick of diss tracks that they decide to settle arguments by fighting each other until the other gets beat in the fight or accidentally gets killed in a way reminiscent of 80s blockbuster action movies or crime dramas where the mastermind villain dies in dramatic fashion. That's basically the franchise of Def Jam until it got rebooted and failed horribly
The combat issue is that vanilla kenshi only allows 1v1 combat so if you have multiple against one they have to wait. Mod solve the issue. Maybe was a design choice for balance or an early iteration that never got changed.

Yeah, other than just living, yes.

"Ancient societies" or "primitive societies" is probably what you're looking for to describe what you mean by "no civilised societies".

That, or move the mic back and increase the gain, but the Yeti has varying results with non-treated walls.

This may be true, but at the same time it gets into deeper questions about sentience, if sentience is the same across species, and if different sentient species would "think differently", and that gets into arguments that used to be used to "scientifically" justify racism, so pardon people if they may be uncomfortable with the assumption of "These sentient beings are different from us and how we think on a base level."
Also, they call them races in Kenshi, and there absolutely is prejudice and herierarchy in Kenshi. It's why your starting species can matter so much. Also, considering the lore of the game, it could easily be and even to a point hinted at that Shek are a offshoot of humans, and the Hivers and Skeletons have, as far as I know, little lore about where exactly they come from, so that could easily be the case for them as well.

Regarding the 1vs1 combat
You just shouldnt clump up to much since (for balancing reasons) only 1 person can attack at once
thought you can still surround a enemy (and its a good idea) since there are rougly 4 directions you can be in from a enemy and then you mostly take turns attacking/defending (you getting a bunch of attacks out while he only gets to attack once) while not being close eneught to each other so a single attack hits a bunch of your people
Thought Differences in skill species and weaponry can change the equation a bit (a Leviathan for example is giant and you can surround him with many more people then lets say a Bonedog)
and well different species or attacks have different attack "areas"
TLDR Surrounding works just dont clump up since that does hinder more then it helps

a huge aspect of the holy nation is their belief in the "second extinction". basically, they believe that if they don't hunt down every last agent of narko (their unholy figure), then those people will eventually exterminate all of humanity. the thing is that it's significantly easier to be an agent of narko than it is to not be an agent of narko, and the holy nation is basically at odds with every other major faction in the game
so prayer day isn't about forcibly converting you as it is you convincing the holy nation that you're NOT a pack of rabid animals that needs to be put down for the good of all men

I'm glad you said that you don't know those games that based for Kenshi, i also don't know about mount and blade but i know a whole lot about Jagged Alliance 2.

Warbands is a good choice as well, its like M&B but with a slightly larger map, an extra nation, and more weapons and armour! There is also the Prequal Sequel Mount and Blade 2
Or just mod godlike stats and more money than you could ever use and skip straight to the end game.
Currently I'm playing a mod it till it breaks run and spoiler alert it did after 30 pages of mods my favorite of which were cows 🐄 and chickens 🐔.
Next I want to try project genesis which is a collection of mods that adds many new areas and things to do in the wasteland. Love the vid.
You should react kurzgesagt videos on ant wars and how they structure there nations, militaries, and agriculture.
Thats not a wajak in the end, its Bogdanoff... you should check Bizonacci youtube channel.
The original video link doesnt go to SsethTzeentach's video but a repost of the video from someone else
Theres another hidden troll in the music for the merchants guild. It's _klezmer_ music. As in Jewish music. As in le happy merchant rubbing hands
Not hidden, like at all.
Not sure if you will see this but if you decide to do a video on SS13, I would recommend Mandalore’s video over Sseth. Even though it is outdated it is a bit better for beginners and makes things easier to understand
I bet Paul has had personal first hand experience with Hash smugglers
Vamos carajo, se te aprecia pela
😐hola😐
¿a ti tambien te gusta las reacciones de este pelon? :D
@@ivanelias3916 un genio este pela2
Look up Torsolo Kenshi - it was a life changing moment in my life watching these.
I would be interested to see a play through of Kenshi on the Twitch channel
1:46 oh, you better get to know what Jagged Alliance is
I would personally think that the attacking one at a time thing would for me be more about having people left to carry wounded home without being too messed up.
With today being 02/23 I feel it's a good time to bring up the game: Receiver 2
Yoooo getting to see the vid fresh off the upload
Like warm cookies out of the Oven
The combat issue is that vanilla kenshi only allows 1v1 combat so if you have multiple against one they have to wait.
Mod solve the issue.
Maybe was a design choice for balance or an early iteration that never got changed.
You should react to lore videos behind the races in Warhammer fantasy i think you would like it
I think that some of Moidawg's Foxhole war 83 videos would fit well on this channel, if you are open to reacting to a series.
Yeah you actually go unconscious after losing blood then you go into a coma in that game
6:30 , you innocent, unsoiled by the Internet soul. Google Gachimuchi.
Btw, mount & Blade is a amazing game franchise
Came for the wacky video reaction, stayed for lessons on economics in ancient world.
12:29 The word I think you're looking for is agrarian.
14:10 I wanna know MHGRs educational background, cuz I don't know if they teach history and stuff in the Military 😂 I thought all that was taught in the military was "How to kill more effectively and use killing weapons". Not "How to Economics and Ancient Civilizations 101".
Pretty much the only factions I would definitively say are good are the Anti-Slavers, the Swamp Ninjas, and the Tech Hunters.
I know it's not a military stuff but still, can you react Dingo Doodles: Fools Gold Ep. 1, Doomed the Universe with Karaoke.
alright, now you gotta play it dude. it'd be too good of a series for you
Paul, please turn off subtitles for Sseth videos. ... Also react to his Heroes Of Might And Magic videos. XD
its funny seeing paul not getting sseths internet humor
HAHAHAHAHAH dont worry man, he was just making a reference to the 2 needed resources in Battle Realms to make a peasant/worker unit: Rice and Wotah. Well to be fair, as an asian, rice and water is all i need... and maybe coffee too
Hey Paul, probably too long to react to, but I think you'd enjoy the Templin Institute video on "Building a Tank Force for your Interstellar Army". Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/oZJqEkamd4Y/видео.html, hope you enjoy, cheers!
Sometimes i wonder if this channel understands jokes and if they are even consumers of the products that are being talked about in sseth's channel.
Ganging up on an Enemy definitly works in Kenshi but you do not want to send a blob of your guys right at the enemy, you want to split them up and attack from different angles, just running in blindly doesnt do you any good and you are just gonna get your team murdered real fast
