    Welcome to the Radishfarm.
Their fans are called moomoo, moo means radish, so the lightsticks look like radishes.
Mamamoo are the Vocal Queens of kpop. They always sing live and always sound perfect. Hwasa was sick the day they filmed this but still sounded amazing.
They debuted 2014 under RBW entertainment. Here a short intruduction to the members:
Solar - born Februar 1991 - Leader, Vocal
Monnbyul - born December 1992 - Rap, Performance
Wheein - born April 1995 - Vocal, Performance
Hwasa - born July 1995 - Vocal, Rap, Maknae
Beeing from a small unknown company they had to work very hard for what they achieved. 2014 -2018 they choreographed all their songs themselvs. Mamamoo is also the most credited female kpop group ever, with Moonbyul beeing the most credited female idol ever (117 songs), Hwasa 47 songs, Solar 41 songs and Wheein 10 songs.
Mamamoo are still together after almost 10 years while being in 3 different companys for their solo work. Moonbyul and Solar are still with RBW, Wheein is under TheLive and Hwasa under P-Nation. They all have successful Solo careers and Moonbyul and Solar are an offical subunit called Mamamoo+.

Mamamoo has always been more mature than most others. This radish hole is very large, but well worth the journey. Be ready for the laughter too. Seeing them live in the states was a concert experience i will never forget. Enjoy these ladies as much as the rest of us Moomoos.

All four members of Mamamoo have great vocals and believe strongly in being true to who they are-what's not to love? They're the group that got me into kpop. It's also wonderful, because in addition to their many excellent songs together as Mamamoo, all four members have solo albums that are also great! So there's plenty to explore.

In terms of instruments, Solar is a trumpet, Wheein is a flute, Hwasa is a saxophone, and Moonbyul is an oboe.

A journey with Mamamoo only becomes more involving as you go, so be forewarned! Many newbies go from Killing Voice to the Immortal Songs Medley. Immortal Songs was a competition show where groups would cover 'standards' in front of a small audience and group of judges. Mamamoo appeared many times, won several times, and cemented their reputation as standout vocalists on that show. The Immortal Songs Medley was where they reprised several of their Immortal Songs performances for fans during an arena concert. It's also where you find that Killing Voice merely scratched the surface of what they can do. Enjoy!

Hi. No need to worry about overextending yourself with too many rabbit holes. Mamamoo is one of the deepest rabbit holes in kpop and, as moomoos like to say, Once you Wheein you can't Whee-out! Abandon hope of other rabbit holes and enjoy the ride! hehehe
    Answers to your questions:
Mamamoo debuted on June 19, 2014 as the first group under a new company called RBW (Rainbowbridge World).
The mustache move during their harmonized intro is from the choreo of their debut single Mr Ambiguous, which was the first song in the medley. Yup, they do the mustache thing every time they introduce themselves. lol
The song after Decalcomanie is called Starry Night. The song title was on the top line with the album and year of release underneath. They were doing some of the choreo but directing it at Wheein cuz ... well, that's just Mamamoo being Mamamoo lol. Btw Starry Night is one of the songs where they incorporated sign language in the choreo. As I recall they signed "The stars are shining" tho I'm not sure whether that was in the little bit of choreo you saw in the video.
The Killing Voice vid was made in 2020. MMM was the first group Dingo invited to do a Killing Voice medley. Dingo had been running a Killing Verse series for rappers. I think the Killing Voice series started because Solar contacted Dingo about making a Killing Verse appearance and they said "No, you're not a rapper but instead how about ..." Not sure about that so don't quote me. I'm sure someone will reply with a correction if I'm wrong. :)
Mamamoo is often called a woman group because they've always had a more mature vibe than most girl groups. Rather than being formed and marketed with one of the standard girl group concepts like cute, innocent, sexy or girl crush, RBW had the novel idea of promoting Mamamoo as artists rather than teen idols. Besides being world class singers the members are involved with all creative aspects of their career including songwriting, arranging, choreography, styling and MV concepts. MMM has the most songwriting credits of any girl group in kpop. As far as I can tell they wear whatever they want and when the stylists have been unfairly blamed for a controversial stage outfit it's always turned out that the member chose her own wardrobe.
Lol. I saw your confused face while Moonbyul was rapping "9 / 6, 6 19, 9 / 6, Gogobebe!" That's why I mentioned that they debuted on June 19 (6 19). Mamamoo likes to play with letter, number and word substitutions. The title is aka 9966 with 9 replacing g and 6 for b. 9 / 6 = 9 to 6, which is the standard Korean work day. 9 / 6, 6 19 is a palindrome with the slash becoming a one when reversed. Here's my translation of Moonbyul's numerology: "We've been working nonstop since our debut and it's time to Par-tay and Go, go baby!"
Dingga is slang for fool around and have fun. Dingga was their way of cheering us up when we were socially distant during the pandemic. IN the song and MV they fantasize about various ways they'd like to have fun with friends of all ages.
Yes, they dance well but their priority in performance is delivering excellent vocals and they almost always use hand mics so many of their songs have relatively simple choreo, much of which they did themselves until Gogobebe in 2019 when they started hiring well-known choreographers. Their most dance-centric songs include Gogobebe, Hip and Aya. The choreo in Hip and Aya requires them to use headset mics. Haters say Mamamoo can't dance but they're missing the point of their performance philosophy and that silliness is belied by MMM's nominations for group dance awards and Hwasa's 2020 MAMA award for solo dance performance. Edit: At this point I should have mentioned that each member has a successful solo career as well. Hwasa won the dance award for her solo song Maria. Imo Maria should have won awards for SOTY - it was the most socially impactful song of the year and an enormous hit.
Yes, they always sound this good live but as with almost any video there was some post-production processing, mostly compression to even out volume fluctuations along with some reverb and I think they used delay at times. You can find a version of this video with the raw vocal footage but frankly I prefer this one. Mamamoo are known as the vocal queens of kpop and everyone agrees they're better live than on record because of their amazing, always live vocals, charismatic stage presence, and infectious bff team chemistry.
Looking forward to your deep dive into one of the most fascinating and talented groups in kpop!

TD, it’s about time. 😂 you’ve just found enough new content with Mamamoo to last you for years. They are absolutely amazing, and yes, they do sound like this in concert. They just came off a US concert tour after finishing an Asia tour. Both Wheein and Hwassa have signed with different agencies but are able to perform and record as Mamamoo with Solar and Moonbyul if they choose to. Meanwhile Solar and Moonbyul are recording and performing as Mamamoo+. All 4 artists have very successful solo careers as well.
I’m so happy that you were bit by the Wheein lightning first, as I was too, even though I have no true favorite as they are all so talented. For me Wheeins voice is like nothing I’ve ever heard before. And her personality is top notch hilarious when she wants to shine. She’s also an outstanding dancer who has put in the work to make herself into one of the best. And if you can believe it, Wheein and Hwassa were childhood friends growing up and managed to both join the same company and group.
Mamamoo is like no other group you’ll see. They’ve transcended kpop and most consider them as simply artists rather than as KPop idols. Idols in South Korea has a less flattering meaning than an artists. One thing that Mamamoo did to cement this reputation back in 2015 was to get invited to participate in the TV series Immortal Songs 2. This is where well known artists and entertainers perform their versions of “immortal” Korean songs from the past live in front of an audience and with musicians and backup singers. Mamamoo was the first female kpop group to be invited and this was only 1 year after they debuted which tells you something. They went on to win 3 times that season. And a couple of the ones they lost are so staggeringly good it boggles the mind how they lost or how strong the winners must have been. They’re all on YT but typically are blocked. There is one called Immortal Songs Medley taken from one of their concerts that will give you a flavor that doesn’t get blocked if you want to react to this at some point.
Anyways, on with the show. I say Mama mama mooo 😂

love Mamamoo is one of my favorite groups, they are all awesome solo artists, the four of them dance, sing, rap, write their music, produce it and do it incredibly well.
What I love most about Mamamoo are their personalities, they are so fun-loving they don't care what others say and just being themselves between her and the fans and that's what I treasure most about this group.
The vocals of each of them is crazy stuff, Solarr has the most powerful voice out of the four but she has the sweetest voice then there is Hwasa which has the most Jaz or R&B type voice, last but not least we have Moonbyul , she was forced to learn how to rap as Ian has many vocalists in the group and the company decided that she did not fit in the group, she became very famous for her melodic rapping and for writing everything she raps but she has a voice that cannot be explained, she hits high notes, also very low notes but her voice I would classify as calm.
Your question if we have heard any female K-pop groups that have similar powerful vocals I have two.
One of them I feel the one that is currently active is Red Velvet I don't know if you've heard them before but if not their Killing Voice is a good start to see the vocals of each of them, Red Velvet is one of my favorite groups in all of K-pop they debuted in 2014 as Mamamoo
And the second group Gfriend they have very good vocals, especially the lead vocalist, monse what kind of music you like as I am new to the channel this is my first video but I think it is not out of place to recommend them as I really like their music, they are also known for how synchronized they are they debuted in 2015.

Though any one of them on their own "may" not be the very best voice in the industry, all four easily rank top 25. Assembled into a single group, adding in the personality, the creativity, the work ethic, and the special bond these 4 forged from early on. They are a once in a generation gift from the gods. The MAMAMOO members are among some of the most-credited idols in K-Pop as of early 2023
    - Moonbyul actually has the most songwriting credits of all 3rd generation female idols at 115(2nd most credited famale artist overall... Yoon Mirae at 139), since she writes her own raps(and more) in almost all of the group’s songs. As well as contributing to the songwriting in many of them as well.
    - Solar has 37 credits to her name. She wrote the lyrics and composition for her solo song, “Spit it Out”. Composer on "Honey".
    - Hwasa has 44 credits. The lyrics to her solo song, “María”, were praised for its inventive and meaningful wordplay. ("Somebody" w/Loco).
    - Wheein has 9 credits (that I can find, maybe more)
    UPDATE Aug 27/23
    - Moonbyul 117

EXID's Solji. f(x)'s Luna. Girl's Generation's Taeyeon, Tiffany (English language solo as Tiffany Young), Seohyun, and ex-member Jessica. Solo idol Ailee. 5 rabbit holes for the price of one! Also singers who focus more on musical theater, like Sonnet Son. One _current_ group with that kind of power vocal is _rock_ quintet Rolling Quartz.

    • @xheralt
      @xheralt Год назад

[2] I'm surprised that you're surprised by Moonbyul's lower voice. High notes are exalted by kpop audiences and executives, high note capability equals vocal line, power equals Main Vocalist. It is almost inevitable that girls with lower timbres get shuffled off into "dance line", backing vocals, and/or rap positions. SNSD's Hyoyeon is a classic example, f(x)'s Amber, EXID's LE, 4Minute's CL, even (G)i-dle's Soyeon (who breaks the mold by being the group's leader!).

[3] Hwasa was slightly under the weather and not in her best voice. You can hear her holding back when she really could have belted, and a little more huskiness than usual...of course, you'd have to already know her voice better to gauge that yourself.

I'm just wanna wish you good luck bc they're almost 9 1/2 years old and there is a mountain of content. Being a Moo Moo is being in love but also overwhelmed by content. Pro tip: search on their official channel and not the top search bar for MVs bc some of the older ones don't have subtitles. Each member has their own channel but there isn't much group content outside of tour vlogs on there so it's okay to skip them for now. There are really only two sacred videos for Moos: the Killing Voice Medley and the Immortal Songs medley(there are no subtitles so you just kinda have to vibe!).
Tbh I don't care if you watch the MVs(and a copious amount of b-side clips and full MVs in some cases) in order but if you want to the vague order is: Peppermint Chocolate(b-side), Don't Be Happy(b-side; there is a 2014 & a 2021 version so look at the upload date) Mr. Ambiguous, Piano Man, Um Ah Oh Yeh, Ahh Oop(b-side), You're The Best, Woo Hoo(commercial film), Decalcomanie, Memory(b-side), New York(b-side), I Love Too(b-side), Yes I Am, Aze Gag(b-side) Paint Me(b-side), Starry Night, Star Wind Flower Sun(b-side), Everyday(commercial film), Egotistic, Sky! Sky!(b-side AND commercial film) Windflower, gogobebe, Gleam(commercial film) Hip, Wanna Be Myself(commercial film), Dingga(b-side; released before AYA but on the same album), AYA, Good Night(b-side), Where Are We Now, mumumumuch, Illella, and 1, 2, 3 Eoi!. These are just the music videos! There are actually more MVs but the ones I didn't include are shorter than the full song, solos, or sub-units.

it's always fun seeing people react to mamamoo for the first time! they're kpop's vocal powerhouse and yes, they always sound this good live. it's a common joke in the fandom that the live version is always better than the studio version. i highly recommend you check out their immortal songs medley, it's one of their best performances!
i'm glad you noticed wheein because people often tend to notice hwasa or solar when they first enter the fandom. my bias is moonbyul but wheein is my bias wrecker, her vocals definitely deserve a lot of attention!
mamamoo does do sexy concepts and they've worn revealing clothes, especially hwasa, but the difference here is that it's usually their choice. and they love to experiment with their style and image, and break the norm.
hwasa has faced a lot of bodyshaming from the korean audience because she doesn't fit into the korean beauty standards, and it took her a long time to be conpletely confident in her own body. she doesn't shy away from wearing revealing clothes, even when she gets bashed for it. moonbyul, on the other hand, prefers not to show skin and has a more androgynous/masculine style. she prefers to wear suits, male hanboks and traditionally masculine outfits. i love how mamamoo shows us that there's no one way to be a woman - you can show skin or choose not to, you can be feminine or masculine, and still support and uplift other women.
the four of them have gone through a lot because, as you observed, they're not the typical girl group. they were called ugly by the korean audience and some of the members were a bit older ("older' here being mid-20s) when they debuted and that was another reason why people didn't like them. but they proved themselves through their amazing vocals and rap, killer stage presence and unique style.
moonbyul also initially auditioned as a vocalist and she's a trained vocalist, but she was forced into the rapper role because they needed a rapper. she didn't like it initially but i think her vocal background has helped her develop a unique style of rapping. she also writes her own verses and has written other songs as well, she is currently the most credited female idol in kpop, with more than 100 songs to her name. all of them have done so much to evolve kpop to where it is now, and they're probably the most authentic kpop group i've seen. they're completely themselves offstage, really chaotic and fun, and their bond is so precious.

Thanks for writing. It sounds like I'm going to learn a lot from the guide and after hearing from you some of their challenges, I wonder now if it's going to make me cry!
It seems like it's more and more a common thing these days for Kpop idols/artists who rap to also be able sing. I'm really curious how her singing voice sounds and whether it's as deep as her rap voice. It's unique and I love it.

    • @skyhideaway
      @skyhideaway Год назад

@@tdragonreactions no problem! and yes, actually hwasa has a solo song called Maria that might make you cry, because it's a song she wrote to assure herself that she was beautiful and worthy, no matter what people said about her. there's also her other song LMM that's really sad as well.
yeah, it's especially common in girl groups to give the rapper position to a vocalist. very few of them handle it as gracefully as moonbyul did though, she actually put in effort and started writing her own verses. her singing voice is just as deep as her rapping voice, and it's really calming to listen to. she sings a lot in her solos and she has also sung in a few mamamoo songs, like Paint Me and Ten Nights. she recently entered a competition where rappers showed their vocal skills and she won first place!

you definitely should! it was a milestone for moonbyul because she was restricted from singing until then, and she finally got to show her range and talent in that show. they even rigged the show because she kept winning every round lol but in the end, she was still the winner.

    @sendarian Год назад +5

mamamoo is my favorite group and they are known in korea for being the best of the best for vocal talent, especially live vocals. I saw them live here in LA last june and they really do sound as good as their recorded music, live. To shorten the back story, they were told they are too old, too short, not attractive and the only way to succeed is to become the best vocalists, so they did despite the complete insanity of those things. Today though they trend setters. They are also known for putting on some of the best performances, totally insane and over the top, concerts even include things like comedy skits. Their MVs are also extremely well produced and one of the few groups where you want to watch both live performances and MVs. They are older, in this video Solar is about 29 and Hwasa is 25, today they are 32 and 28, Moonbyul becomes 31 just before christmas, Wheein is also 28(fun fact Hwasa and Wheein are middle school friends). So these are women not barely out of teenage girls, makes a difference for some of these songs. As you become a new moomoo, they have over 400 videos, they release 25 songs each year between them when including Solo albums, OSTs, covers and collabs. Every song is great to unbelievable. Most will go to the immortal songs medley next. The finger thing comes from their debut song Mr Ambiguous. They do every genre, Jazz, Big band, retro styles, r&b, reggaeton, rock, even US countryish, mixing in traditional sounds from latin america, hindu, egyptian etc. fair warning they know how to make you feel the emotions, there are songs which will make you cry, like I Love Too live peformance from the Moosical. They all have you tube channels, Solar's is the longest running and has a whole lot of content, some really good covers, like michael jackson man in the mirror, she originally covered for charity singing with MJs original band and backup singers then re-recorded for her channel, Solarsido is her channel. Moonbyul2da is her channel, Whee In and Hwasa are their channels, though hwasa isnt so much a youtuber like the other 3 are. A good set of older videos as covers would be Love me, training video of Wheein and Solar doing No Cool, Im sorry and for a recent live medley and 2 full songs the Mamamoo live hits collection sung by the group to a live band in the Hwasa show(yeah they do TV shows) episode 8. and Solar is pretty unique for her extremely clear vocal and super powered belt, with all that mass and volume behind it and she does some cristina covers. In fact Hwasa, Wheein and Solar cover Save me from my self(Solar and Hwasa also duet it) and you can see some extemely good flexing from solar in that.

Wow. Thanks for all of this info. I'm glad to see so many supporting them.
That breaks my heart to hear the challenges they had to go through with not meeting SK standards. I think they are all beautiful in their own way and for various reasons.
If they had to achieve the status of being the best vocalists, they certainly achieved it. I haven't listened to many other groups, I tend to get bored or tired of the song (unpleasant to my ears), but some have been telling me others are amazing vocalists too so I might check them out and let you all know what my thoughts are. That might be fun.

You cannot go wrong with Mamamoo, whatever you choose to react to next. Their ultimate vocal flex is The Immortal Songs Medley, which is a clip from their 2017 concert. The Immortal Songs is a competition show where various performers cover songs by famous Korean artists. Mamamoo was the first girl group to win and the first idol group to win 3 times. You should also watch a guide fairly soon. The two best are Purple Hawk's and Moo_YT's. Purple Hawk spends more time on each individual and is the best edited guide you'll ever see. Moo_YT's is more up to date (2022 vs 2019) and has more info about the group as a whole.
They are also all successful soloists, and recently Solar and Moonbyul have been putting out material under the subunit name Mamamoo+. They toured the US for the first time this summer and it was very successful. Currently Solar is getting ready for her second musical appearance as Esmerelda in The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

Wheein and Solar's voice combination always reminds me of like a comic book artist or artwork in general. Solar has this sharp powerful voice that outlines a song and Wheein fills in all the tones and extra pallets right up to the very line of the outline without trying to cover it up. All four were coming off being sick when they did this show, so not at their very best. The song "I miss you" was performed on Queendom as a fan request and is arguably the best version because there are no bad versions honestly. They are normally a group of over active beagles on stage and .. yeah. For the tour they did this year they switched solo work around and everyone sang someone else's solo, very cool. There is another group Big Mama that had to be an influence on them for style and content as it is also 4 very strong vocalists. As far as being "sexy" there are a couple performances that really sets a standard. Solar's take on BTS's Fire comes to mind. A live version is on youtube and is a must watch.

Yes!! I love Mamamoo they are different from other groups because they show themself insted of trying to act cute or sexy or something they are not, their style always was more "mature" specially in the beggining they have a lot of acustic and jazz songs
I always like how their voices complement each others in their songs so much and the live performances are so good really

Left(sweater vest) Moonbyul, Solar, Wheein, Hwasa... Other Girl Groups take insperation from Mamamoo. The Vocal Queens, everyone loves them.
FYI they really CAN'T lip sync... And I'm not even joking LoL.
MAMAMOO joins the ranks of Destiny's Child, The Spice Girls, and TLC as the ONLY girl groups to sell over 70,000 tickets on their FIRST tour in the USA. This makes MAMAMOO the ONLY girl group to achieve this milestone AFTER a 21-year gap. AND the ONLY Non-English speaking girl group to accomplish such a feat.

Welcome to the fandom. Mamamoo has over 500 songs to their credit now, counting solos as well as group songs. They released 54 songs in 2022, more than one a week! Plus the company started filming the group behind the scenes early on, calling it MMMTV, and a lot of those videos plus videos of them just shooting themselves live, plus three plus years of Solar's RUclips channel Solarsido, means there is a LOT of content. That's not even counting the fan-made videos, of which there are hundreds or thousands. Most of it will not get blocked except the TV shows, which are extremely jealous of their content. But RBW doesn't block reactions to Mamamoo.

I'm hoping my next reactions for MMM won't get blocked. That'll be a shame. I get nervous everytime I introduce a new group to my channel especially when they are from different labels.

If this is your first time hearing Dingo Killing Voice, then you really set the bar high. Up until now I still has goosebumps when hearing Mamamoo sing I Miss You. Even though I heard it probably more than hundreds in Dingo Killing Voice.
Who you admire is Whee In, the ACE of Mamamoo. She has sweet honey voice that melts in your ears so good. Well all of them has their own uniqueness. And like what I always said, Mamamoo are not Girl Group. They are 4 artists who works together and complement each other so perfectly. Each of them as a soloist are successful too.
Welcome to the Radish Farm new Moomoo 😄😄

This is an incredible vocal group! They all have such amazing voices. Solar has a powerful voice, Wheein has the most technical approach, Hwasa has a jazzy tone, and Moonbyul has a deeper tone. They are just next level. My personal favourite would be Wheein!
I would suggest checking out their immortal songs (a show where distinguished singers compete with their performances) for even more incredible vocals. Some suggestions on the immortal songs performances would be Delilah, The way to sampo, Backwoods

Hi new moomoo!! You will not regret them one bit. They are my ult group because of their uniqueness, personality, and willingness to challenge the social standards. They also came from a no name company and singlehandedly built their brand from nothing.
A word of note, wheein and hwasa (two on the right) are in different agencies now but moonbyul and solar (two on the left) are still in the same agency from the beginning. Mamamoo members are in different agencies now, but still can come together as a whole group when they would like. In fact, in the beginning of 2023, Mamamoo did a USA tour! It was incredible to say the least.
Edit: I recommend watching their Immortal songs. It really helped them gain popularity. Also all of them except hwasa, I believe, have personal RUclips channels as well! (with English captions too lol)

DPR Live - Hula Hoops. Love that song 😀 Even with this preview it's worth watching all these songs MVs. And a live performance of them. They are best when they are live. The finger mustache is a throw back to their debut with Mr Ambiguous (the first song in this performance) Moonbyul is a fantastic singer as well. They don't really stick with a style. With their appearance or their music. And they actually have a great message, too. There are some really good guides to Mamamoo. Purple Hawk and Moo YT have done an amazing job with editing. Killing Voice is just the tip of the iceberg. There are a lot of Moomoo's who are OT4. All the time, they do use a backing vocal track when they use handheld mics. Basically to cover when the choreo takes the mic out of reach.

    Rewatching....
    - Solar 41
    - Hwasa 46
    - Wheein 10+

Very nice reaction, yes they always sound that good. As you notice, Mamamoo is different from other KPop groups, they have a distinctive sound and the harmonies are exquisite. I also like the jazzy flavour they have in their songs. Yes they can be sexy as hell in their videos but in a much more mature way. They don’t play that innocent/nasty schoolgirl stereotype that many other girl group use.
As for a recommendation I suggest Where Are We Now, a less typical KPop song, heartbreaking beautiful with great vocals and harmonies. Speaking about harmonies and power vocals, I would like to advertise another female quartet from the Philippines, 4th Impact. The Filipino counterpart to Mamamoo. Try their cover of Leave The Door Open or Bridge Over Troubled Water, you will discover more than one Christina Aguilera.

@@tdragonreactions Oh yes, how much they have improved, you'll be surprised. It was the X-Factor UK in 2015, their first audition video has become the most successful X-Factor video of all time with over 190M views by now. Their covers are phenomenal, but they have finally started to produce their own music. Singles in 2022 Here We Go and Tapat Sa'Yo, singles in 2023 Destorted and All At Once, their best so far and both part of the long, long awaited upcoming Minialbum end of this month. Let me know when you do a reaction, I will share it in the fan groups, Dreamers (4th Impact fans) will be exited.
