Looks like fun ! I saw your video on Old Hwy 105 and went and drove it a couple weeks ago , thanks for all your videos and information ! looks like this may be my next trip !
Thanks Brad, My wife and I are Finally going to Gorges State park, sometime in August or Sept.2020, Cant wait ! It looks so beautiful, Nothing is better than The Great Outdoors Off Road,, and My Jeep ! LOL !!! maybe weather will be good enough to put my Top Down !!!!
If you were able to continue straight you would end up in the mustardgrounds and if you could have crossed the bridge you could have driven to lake Joccassee. Great trip thanks for the video
GrizzlyNbear Overland thanks, even though we just do weekend trips, I love the agility of the overlanding style setup, and someday we may follow your example and take it around the world 🙂
@@dustysims902 I think you will be fine with open difs and no winch. With the long wheel base there are a couple corners that you might need to take with a 4-5 point turn, but I don't think there is anything that's too narrow. The F150 had zero issues. Good luck!
Just came across your channel also new to NC. Want to link up with a trail event group, the expedition looks awe inspiring. Thanks for the video documentary.🇺🇸😎
Welcome to NC! You should check out my other channel that I created this spring with a lot more trip videos like this one. It's called Mountains to Sea Overland and it is focused on sharing trips in our local area. Here's a link: ruclips.net/channel/UCHEtM0dkyIbFPcwqMvjafZQ
It's access through the main State Park entrance area. You can see it on google maps if you zoom in. Thanks for follow! I have thought about doing a get together, maybe at a local beer garden or something...
Awesome trip & video! ...would like to know a little more about that route to the river & if its open year round? Always love some backcountry camping, and am just getting into doing it by vehicle (I'm a backpacker)
I'm pretty sure the road to the river is open year round, though you can confirm with the Gorges Park Staff for any given time. The spot by the river where we camped is really nice, with one caveat... when we went the first thing we did was fill a garbage bag with all the trash that some other group left. But when we left it was spotless and beautiful!
We entered Gorges State Park, and Chestnut Mountain Road starts at the lower parking lot of the park and goes south. From there you can connect with Augor Hole road and take that to the river, or you can take Bear Creek Road down to Crossroads Mountain in SC. There are gates everywhere and its hard to find out what's open and what's closed except by calling the staff at Gorges State Park. They can tell you about anything you need to know. Enjoy it out there, and keep it clean! We had to pick up a whole bag of trash where some group had been partying or something. Leave it nicer then you find it so we can maintain access to these areas!
We got to the bridge that crosses the horsepasture river, but the gate was closed at the river so we couldn't cross. It was a great spot to camp though. Good luck Saturday!
This may seem like a silly question but I'm just getting into doing stuff like this and I wondered what is the etiquette if you come across someone coming the other way. A lot of the videos I'm watching these trails are kinda tight with now room for passing.
Well you may have already figure this out by now but it all depends on the situation. Always be mindful of a pull off or a wide spot that you could back up to if the other person doesn't have one closer. Other than that just keep fingers crossed you don't come up on another vehicle in those tight spots.
No, there is no permit necessary that I know of. Thanks and be sure and check out my new channel, "Mountains To Sea Overland" for more videos like this including the SC side of this same area... Musterground Road
I drove a mile into it about 5 months ago before turning around because of waning sunlight. 9" ground clearance to even start the trail. There are man-made moguls about 20 ft past the trailhead to prevent dumbasses from trying to get back there in ill-equipped vehicles.
I haven't been in a while to see how much is open, but the folks at the state park office have always been helpful about letting me know how much is open currently.
i heard all of these road where permanently closed :( last time i was there you could drive across the bridge. someone told me they were working on permanently closing the whole trail system to vehicles, due to people going driving off of the trails.!. anyone know if these are still open or if they have indeed been closed ?
@@wlfmachine good to know, thank you ! it has been two years since i have been there and it is getting harder and harder to find any trails around here... has the bridge been reopened ?
We were just there yesterday (7-2-2020) and although we did not take the road down into SC, the other roads shown in this video were open. The bridge was still closed.
FYI; I went down there today (7-25-2020) there are new signs. The sign at the gate half way down (as you leave gorgeous state park) says “CLOSED January 2 - March 31”, the sign on the gate at the bridge says “OPEN September 1 - January 1” I am not sure about the gate schedule for the first half of the road

One of my favorite camp spots! Great video man.
The best family time ever! You got your priorities right my man. Lp

Great video bud! I usually always camp on horsepasture rd (gorges state park) in sc but I’m going to have to check this spot out :)
Nice and beuatyful land...like my village...two tumbs up..👍👍
Glad you enjoyed!
Love it...

Yeah actually we later did Musterground. You can check that out on my newer channel that's strictly overlanding stuff: "Mountains to Sea Overland"
It looks like i could do these trails in my Volvo and my 80 series. Definitely putting it on the list!
Anything with decent clearance and 4wd would do great out here!
@@wlfmachine how do these trails compare the Musterground trails? Equivalent?
Looks like a lot of fun. Nice car !

I have a nissan titan with a 4 inch suspension lift and 33s. That's it. No winch or lockers or rockets. Think I'll be ok?

Same Greg I hiked Appalachian trail in2017. I just got a Nissan 02 frontier and looking for some trails that are easy like what they went on.
@@jacobconnwithconnhikes6119 these trails aren't technical like what you find at Uwharrie, but great for overland style driving and camping
Is the gate over the river ever open? Where does it lead if so? Great video!
good video

I looked at gorges state park and do not see anything showing this off road area/Trails. also does this area allow side by sides
Where do i get those tents with the ladder that you can put on top of your Ram1500?

Here September 1st and the gate is closed :(

I could help you with directions if ur still interested.

Did you have to air down the tires on this trail?
We didn't need to
Pick a volume. Voices are to quiet and the music is to loud. Make em the same
Thanks for the feedback
