I think it's pronounced Joe-cass-E not joke-a-see. Thanks for the video. Looks like lots of fun. Love my Tony's too.
Thanks so much! So glad you liked the video. We had a great time on this trip. The lake is so wonderful!
Yes, it’s Jow-KA-c
Beautiful area an hour from our home that we frequent often. Beautiful video.
@@scottmichellestempniak6595 thank you so much and thanks for watching!
You're correct
Yep
My dad was one of the Duke surveyors, who for over a year, hiked in and camped for a week at a time to market the trees at 1100 foot above sea level. Ohio loggers were brought in to top the trees before they filled it.
It’s pronounced Jo-Cassie
That’s Awesome! Very cool story. He was probably one of the last to walk and explore that land before it all went under. Thanks for sharing.
Loved this one too! I just love the simplicity, the history, the drone shots and just how you guys like to explore!
Thank You! So glad you liked this one too. Its so fun sharing what we love doing and what we find.
Absolutely loved this video by the way! Music added such a mood and was a great relaxing video, made me want to get out!
Thank you so much! Glad you liked it. We’re still learning as far as the video making goes, so it’s great to hear it’s achieving what we wanted it to for the viewers.
Wow! Those view are absolutely amazing. I would love to go there with my grandparents. They love traveling to places like this.
Thank you for checking out the video. I’m sure they would love it and love to show you it in person.
This video is part of my bucket list! Waiting for my son to grow a little more so he can enjoy the trip and convincing my wife for the adventure! Thank you for sharing!
You have some wonderful times ahead of you! I love hitting the trails and camping with my boy. Making memories! Glad some of these spots will be apart of that. Thanks for commenting!
We love those places also. What a fantastic job of filming could not look away. Felt like I was there with you. Awsome music.
Thanks! Really appreciate your kind words. So glad you liked it. It definitely is a beautiful part of the country
Awesome footage! Great job capturing all of it. So beautiful! Hope to have some of these adventures in our future 😉
Thanks so much. Means a LOT coming from someone so great at capturing the moment. Looking forward to your adventures. Thanks for watching.
Wow, can't believe I missed this video when I subscribed and commented on one of your other videos. Recall I started a little for fun channel jeepNdirt, but my wife and I want to explore and travel this type of route and watching your channel motivated us to plan some of these places in 2023. This particular route you filmed is awesome. Adding it to our list for sure. Thanks and good stuff.
Glad you were able to find it. So glad you liked this one too. Hoping to catch you on the trails up there sometime. BTW. Should have another video up in a week or so. Editing it now. If you catch it let me know what you think. Thanks again for watching and commenting.
Love that brown boy! Kinda reminds me of myself. Head out the window and I love the water too! Lol! Great video and music!
LOL. yes he sure does love both those things. I think its the call of the wild in him. hanks for watching
To bad for all the rain but those lake side views were amazing. What a way to spend NYE!
Yes it was a great NYE! Away for the crowds of people in the peaceful mountains.
Enjoyed your adventure. I'm almost looking for new places to explore when I'm in North Carolina South Carolina. Keep them coming look forward to seeing more. See you out on the trails!
Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it! We’ll be on the lookout for you out there!
Nice video, almost in my backyard for the Jocassee part. Definitely a beautiful area.
Thank you! Glad you liked it. Yes you do live in some beautiful country. Can’t wait to get back and explore that area more. Maybe come in from the north, like the Gorges area next time
Thanks for sharing! So inspiring!

New sub here, just stumbled upon your channel. Glad I did, fantastic video. I honestly thought I was watching a father daughter trip for the 1st few minutes. Love old 105 and NC mountains
Thanks for the Sub and comment. so glad you liked the video. Yes, I'm a lucky guy! :) this was our first time on Old 105 and loved it and all its camping opportunities.
Awesome video. Love the editing style. Keep up the great work!

Great video I am from NC and will be exploring these areas soon!
Thank you, so glad you liked it! It will be a great time when you get out there for sure! Such great sights to see.
Better n better! Keep them coming.
We hope to! Thank you for watching!
Loved the video and I am looking forward to doing these same trails this December when I come back home to visit my family. Subscribed and looking froward to watching more videos from you. If you ever come out to the Southwest US, I will be glad to show you around here - much different wheeling here.
Thanks so much for subbing and commenting! Glad you liked the video. Yeah that would be awesome if we made it out there. We were out in Moab and CO last year. Where about are you in the Southwest?
Awesome job on the video y’all, really enjoyed seeing all the amazing views from the area and all the b-roll and drone footage. We love our T4 and the plus is definitely on my list of future buys. Big 👍 and I’m looking forward to checking out some more of your content. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!
Thanks so much! It was such a beautiful place to explore. The Plus is the great! Love the extra room to use as a place to sit to ride out a storm or area to cool during rain. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
Pronunciation lesson from a local. Jocassee is pronounced like “Joke” like , no joke- this video is vey well done; “Ass” like your jeep hauls ass; and “see” like, see all the fun you can have at Jocasee. Joke-ass-see.
I love it!!! Yes we have been corrected by a few locals but yours by far has been the greatest! Thanks so much for watching and the great comment.
Enjoyed the video and great job on videography! I really like the Jeep too. I have one very similar and love it. I live about 10 miles from Old NC105 / Linville Gorge and always enjoy watching videos from there and our forest roads. I look forward to seeing more of your videos. Subscribed!
Yes I do see now we have very similar Jeeps. What year and engine is yours? We wish we only lived 10 miles from that area. Beautiful! We’re more like 10 hrs from there. Thanks so much for watching/subscribing/and commenting, the Big 3! Lol! I just subscribed to your channel and will check it out this evening.
@@GetOverItOutdoors Thanks for the subscribe! I don't post much but enjoy watching overlanding videos. Especially when it involves Jeeps. Lol! Mine is a 2018 with the 3.6L V6. I like how you have the cook station set up in yours. I have a Dometic CFX3 45 but I don't have a slide for it. Will be watching more of your vids over the weekend. You guys seem to travel all over and have some great times!
@@nchighwayman our is ‘18 also but we have the 2.0T. Thanks for liking the drawer/kitchen setup. I made it. I copied bits and pieces of other ones I saw on RUclips or for sale. It really makes that part of camping so much faster and convenient. We have a CFX3 55im. I had to put a 1/2” spacer on the backseat in order to fit it back there but love the way it turned out. We’re trying to get out more. Most of trips are the GA,NC,SC. Aimee is a teacher so our big trips we take in the summer and try to head out west.
I live 20 ish mins from the start of 105 from it’s absolutely stunning I go up there a ton for the ohv trail part of it… if you ever go back go all the way through hit main road stay straight and the is a old general store called Linville general store it’s a blast!
You live in a beautiful area for sure! Thanks so much for watching and commenting! We definitely will have to check out the General Store next time we’re up in that area. Thanks again!
Nice video, great job!!! Will travel that area next fall. Nice drone video also!!!
Big Thank You! Glad you liked the video. That area will be gorgeous in fall, especially if you're there during the leaf change.
Very nice, not too much talking, great drone and camera work, and interesting information!! Very nice! Keep it up!!
Thank you for the continued compliments and comments. We always struggle with how much talking and voice over we should do or if we should just let the video tell the story. Good to hear you liked the different camera shots and drone. I tried this time to get as many different angle and points of view as I could think to mix it up and not just have the standard thru the windshield shot. thanks again for always watching. Oh by the way we did try one of your camp spots at the beginning of the Brown Mtn. OHV area, but it was jam packed for New Year weekend. we"ll have to try again on a less busy time because there were some nice sites there.
@@GetOverItOutdoors Brown Mtn OHV Closes Jan-1 to April 1. It get hit pretty hard during any Holiday time if the weather is good. Weekdays are the best times to secure a good site.
Ok we were there the NYE.
Nice little place to buzz through. I’ve been going to the horse pasture for years.
Yes, we absolutely agree! So wonderful!
so relaxing, nice job

Love Jocassee! Great Video
Thank you! Glad you liked it!
Awesome, thank you.🙂☝️👍
Thank you for watching and commenting!
Great video I would love to see this mapped out! I’d like to take the trip myself
Hello thanks for watching and commenting! I’m sorry I don’t have a GPX file to share. It was before I started recording our path on Gaia Gps. Most of the first have of the video is on the eastern side of Lake Jocassee ending at the lake on Bootleg Rd. The rest is quite a bit north in the Linville area off of Old Hwy 105 as we were trying to out run weather.
Beautiful video! New subscriber here. Hope to see many more of your adventures!
Thank you for subscribing! Each new subscriber really helps out the channel. we hope you enjoy all our adventures.
Great video. I recognize a few of those places.
Thanks so much! Glad you liked it! There were some beautiful sights on this trip!
Great video. Just over the SC/GA line is the Ga traverse that has a lot of great scenery, dispersed camping and great forest service roads. If you're ever in the area again, you may want to check it out. I've not heard the American Indian legend about Jocassee, so thanks for that. By the way, down here the emphasis is on the middle syllable and it is pronounced Cass, like Mama Cass. joCASSee. Drone shots and music were a great addition to the video.
Thank you for all your kind words and help with the pronunciation! We weren’t sure which one we heard to go with on that. Yes the GA Traverse is a great route. We’ve done parts of it a few times and it’s just amazing. We done a couple videos on this channel of those GA Traverse trips that might be interested in. Thanks for watching and commenting.
That lake is beautiful! So sad you can’t camp on it. Wonderful video, so relaxing!
Yes we were quite disappointed to see all the "No Camping" signs in that area. would have been a epic campsite. Thank you for commenting
Although you cannot
Camp lake side, there are plenty of other campsites back up the hill. Some on horse pasture, some on shooting tree ridge road and some down Dawkins flat in the low area.
@@davidlecroy432 Yes we saw a few of these sites and they would have made a great spot to camp also. thanks for the watch and comment.
@@GetOverItOutdoors across the Lake on the west end is another area you might want to check out some time. It’s called Muster ground mountain. It’s a hunting area that offers dispersed camping. Lake access is harder to get to due to gates but you can walk the last section and there are less views but it’s very secluded and some fun wheeling. Definitely steeper than the horse pasture area. You will need 4WD due to elevation. It goes back in maybe 15 or 16 miles to the back. There is also a route that you can use to connect to Gorges State park when they have the gates open at the bridge that crosses the River. I have not been down it but hear that it’s only open on occasion.
Yes the other side is just as amazing. We did the Musterground Rd. last year about this time. check out our video "Overlanding Western NC,SC. We loved lower Whitewater Falls. Oh and yes, we came across a lot of closed gates back in there but it was still so beautiful. We tried taking the Auger Hole Rd. that crosses the river into Gorges but that gate was closed as well. 2 or 3 years ago my son and I camped right at the bridge on the Gorges side of the river. GREAT campsite right on the river there. And when we went it was hot enough weather to really enjoy the water.
This is my back yard, and ive only been there twice😂😂
lol! You have a beautiful backyard!
Nice set of videos, folks! This is the first one we have commented on but would like to issue a blanket statement of, . . . your channel is nicely put together. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us! We subscribed at the beginning of this video but watched a few yesterday on our big-screen TV. Really nice driving and drone footage. We look forward to seeing your new footage!
p.s. Nice choice of bourbon at the end! I (Ken) like that stuff.
Thanks so much. We just subbed to your channel as well and watched your McIntosh Reserve video. The Meatloaf looked amazing. We’ve love cooking with cast iron too but have a lot to learn.
Yes we love a good bourbon and Whistle Pig is one of our favs.
Thank you in return! There is so much that can be done in cast iron. I like baking in it as well. The coffee cake (Oh, Yumm), and the Labor Day pt. 2 (muffins) are two that come to mind. We have long term plans for Cheese cake baked at the Arctic circle! I fall back on Bulleit but really enjoyed the OF. Wendy says, "if you are ever in west Georgia, swing on by"! We are working on getting a Gladiator at some point in time.@@GetOverItOutdoors
Love those plans of heading to the Arctic Circle. That would be a super cool experience. I really like the Gladiators a lot. I’ve seen dealerships are making some fabulous deals on remaining inventory on them right now.
Perfect

Just so you know, I'm not watching your videos anymore on my desktop pc. They look waaay better on my big screen man cave tee vee. Especially the drone footage. Even the rainy weather looks better on the man cave tee vee. BTW, Makers Mark #46 is my fav!
Happy to hear you’re liking it on your big TV. I try to do most of the videos in 4K for just that purpose! Thanks for the tip on the Makers Mark! I’ll be giving it a try
Great video!
Awesome, glad you liked it! Thanks for subbing!
@@GetOverItOutdoors just noticed your Colorado and Moab videos… I’m going to have to watch them! My wife and I are planning a trip for August & Sep. going from NC to Colorado and Moab! Any tips or suggestions?
@@venture.explore.discover Very Cool! If you've never been its a trip you'll never forget. It was our first time. If you wanna hit a bunch of trails all in the same area in CO I'd recommend finding somewhere in the Telluride/Ouray area. there you'll find Black Bear Pass, Imogene Pass, Ophir Pass, Engineer Pass, and Poughkeepsie Gulch. All Jeep Badge of Honor Trails.
@@GetOverItOutdoors It will be out first time and we're definitely researching all of your suggestions. I hear Imogene Pass can get crowded, but it is on our list!
@@venture.explore.discover Imogene wasn’t to bad as far as traffic. We got a early start on it so that might have helped. I think we only had to squeeze over twice for an oncoming vehicle. We started from the Telluride side.
This is awesome. I will be there in April exploring the area with my family. Can you list the route you took from the lake to Linville ? Can’t wait to see it in person.
The route we took from Lake Jocassee to Linville was nothing exciting. We took almost all paved hwy roads. We were just trying to get as far north as we could to get out of all the rain and weather. Sorry couldn’t help more there. Wish we had a trail route for you but it didn’t work that way
@@GetOverItOutdoors all good. Thanks.
Pronunciation for Jocassee is: Joe - Kass - See
Yes, thank you! We've had a lot of comments on this pronunciation. We were trying to respect both ways of pronouncing it and may have failed. In the beginning of the video, I pronounce it a few times as you have helped with Joe-Cass-see, which we have read is the more modern/English/local pronunciation. When my wife is narrating the Native American story of how the name came about, she tried using what we read to be as the Native American pronunciation, Joc-a-see. Is this incorrect? Do you have any insight into the Native American pronunciation that can help us further?
Just found this video and want to say great job!! Love the drone shots and the history. Did you go to Linville Falls while you where there? Been to the Old 105 / Linville area on both a Harley Tri-Glide and our Jeep, much better in the Jeep I must say.
Thank you so much! So glad you liked it! Yes we did go to Linville Falls! Gorgeous! And we went early in the morning and had them all to ourselves. I bet 105 was quite the challenge on the Harley!
Cool gave me a new spot next time I go to Sapphire
That's great! Glad we could help! ;^). Thanks for commenting.
JO-CASS-E
So was I right using the American/popular pronunciation in the video or was my wife using the the original native American pronunciation?
Another Great video! Love the beauty of that lake! What were the water temps like?
Thank you for watching. It truly was a beautiful lake. I don't know the exact temp. but it was definitely cold on the feet. To cold to be swimming in this time of year.
@@GetOverItOutdoors You're probably right but I've swam in some pretty cold waters.
Hey, great video. Any chance you can share the route, especially the peninsula. Thanks in advance
The peninsula is at the end of Bootleg Rd. We came in off of Hwy 11 and turned on to Roy F Jones Rd. From there we found Shooting Tree Ridge Rd to Cane Creek Rd. to Horse Pasture Rd to Bootleg Rd. I think that is all the trails to Bootleg. Have fun! It’s Beautiful! Thanks watching and commenting!
Much better in my opinion before they built the lake been going through for 75 years use to camp for month at a time back in the day
Wow, Would love to have seen and gone thru that area before the lake. You're a lucky guy to know what it was like before that.
Great video! What were the campsites along lake jocasee like? I’ve backpacked there before but have not been to the section where you can overland. Are you able to pull your vehicle into the campsites? I was up camping on 105 a few days before you in this video! And then again a couple weeks later in the snow. Just subbed
We couldn’t find any campsites along the lake that didn’t have a no camping sign. It was a real bummer. So many beautiful views and spots along the shore but no camping allowed. We saw multiple fire rings that had been used recently so I don’t know what the deal was there. Camping illegally? We did find some spot more inland there that were good and by streams that you could pull a vehicle into. That must have been pretty beautiful camping on 105 in the snow. It actually snowed the day after we left. We missed it by less than 12 hrs. Thanks for subscribing and commenting. Really appreciate it!
You gotta worry about bears out there in early spring? Planning a trip in March but don’t have much experience out east
They say you do have to be mindful of bears. We’ve never seen one but we always try to take the necessary precautions around camp so we don’t attract one.
Lol joc-a-see that’s a new one, it’s Joe-cassie
Thank you for watching and commenting. Yes, we were trying to respect to both ways of pronouncing. In the beginning I pronounce it a couple time as you have said Joe-cassie, which we have read is the more modern/English/local pronunciation. When my wife is telling the Native American story of how the name came about she tried using what we read to be as the Native American pronunciation, joc-a-see. Is this incorrect? Do you have any insight into the Native American pronunciation that can help us further?
Lived in Pickens my whole life, never once heard it pronounced like that, also never seen any Native American’s in the area either for that matter
@@elementman222 Thank you!!
I just moved to the area and have been looking at some cool places to dispersed camp, I've watched a few of your videos already. Great content! Do you have any idea whereabouts that first camping spot was? The one at 4:00?
Thanks so much for checking out some of our videos and subscribing. The area at the 4:00 mark is the Jumping Off Rock viewpoint on Horse Pasture Rd. There is a campsite up there. It’s about 50 yds from the road. It probably gets a lot of foot traffics by it since it is right at the public viewpoint. Hope this helps.
Great vid! What griddle are you using on that Camp Chef stove.
Hey, it is the Lodge 18". I just added a link to it in this video description under "Camping" to make it a little easier to find. Thanks for subbing and commenting.
So where is this lake ? Can ya camp and fish off that little island you showed in the beginning of the video? That would be amazing . So where is it ? That place is absolutely amazing.. my favorite thing to do is park my jeep at waters edge and fish and relax ( catch and release ) i like it for the “Zen” and peace .. my jeep pup and i live for it. My wife comes sometimes but mostly its me and my pup..
Hello! It’s Lake Jocassee. It’s in the far NW corner of South Carolina along the Georgia and North Carolina borders. The peninsula in the video at the end of Bootleg Rd but you can’t camp at it. It had several no camping signs. There were at least 3 fire rings there though but i guess people must have used them for day use or ignored the signs. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Just found your channel. I love the video footage and music. What kind of drone do you have? What video editing program do you use? Also, great music... do you use a specific program to get the music? I'm trying to learn all I can from fellow RUclipsrs to help me improve my channel. I look forward to seeing more videos from you.
Thank you so much! I just use the small Mavic Mini. It does great but I do wish it had some sort of Active tracking. The video editing I use is iMovie. And music I go back and forth between Epidemic music and Musicbed Subscriptions. I completely understand that what I’m doing also, always checking out what other RUclipsrss are doing and how they’re editing. Thanks again for watching and commenting.
New subscriber, loved the video. Do you have the gps coordinates for your campsite? Is it in Linville?
Yes it is near Linville Falls on Old hwy105. there are dozens of dispersed/primitive sites along that. road.
How do you get onto that trail around lake jocassee? Great video
We took Cane Creek Rd. to Horse Pasture Rd. then Bootleg Rd. down to the lake and the peninsula you see in the video. Thanks for watching.
Is Jumping Off Rock in the area of Lake Jocassee? I’ve ridden that area many time and never had the pleasure of that view. I’d like to go back and find it.

Great Video, Heading up there in June. Is that Bootleg Rd in Sunset or Salem? I know there are two. Also, how long was the drive to lake from intersection of Horse Pasture? Thanks, keep it up!

I don’t think there is anything that would cause you much trouble. We weren’t even in 4wheel.
Just wondering if there are gas stations near it on this 105? We’re planning a trip in October thanks!
I’m not positive but I think there’s a Mobil station close to where Old 105 begins on the Linville Falls end. Hope this helps.
never heard that pronunciation. around here we say "Joe-cassie"
Where was the spot next to the lake? Can you camp there? Would love to plan a trip..
The spot on the lake is at the end of Bootleg road off of Horse Pasture Rd. You can’t camp there. There are “No Camping” signs up. There are stone fire rings there but must be for day use I guess. You’ll have to check it out. It’s a beautiful lakeside view
the music near the end, who is it?
I think the one referring to is Across the Water by CHPTRS. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Love the video. Hate the sad music
Thank you so for watching and sharing your thoughts. We were going for laid back, peaceful, and relaxing in the song selections.
Can you provide the coordinates for the start of the trail?
Hello the coordinates for where we started the trail towards Lake Jocassee are 34.96060, -82.83281 at Roy F Jones highway. The other trail is Old Highway 105 outside of Linville. Safe travels and thank you for watching.
So where is it? Is this also known as Muster Grounds?
It’s on the eastern side of the lake, opposite Muster grounds.
Hey guys really enjoyed your video. One thing though, as a native South Carolinian I have never heard Lake Jocasse pronounced that way. Anyways it could be just a local thing. Take care. See me @ #SCFunSeniors
So glad you liked it! Thank you for the pronunciation help. Some of these Native American names can be a little tricky
Think Mama Cass, Jocassee.
is it possible to get the gpx file for this route?
Hey, Unfortunately I don’t have any GPX files here. I basically entered the Jocassee Gorges WMA off of Hwy 11 at Roy Jones Rd.. Roy Jones Rd. to Shooting Tree Ridge Rd. to Cane Creek Rd. to Horse Pasture Rd. toBootleg Rd. Bootleg ends at the Lake spot you saw in the video. There are a bunch of other ways to get there but that was our route. We just took pavement to Linville, then just basically spent all our time on Old 105/ Kistler Memorial Hwy. Hope this helps. Beautiful and informative video! I'm from Western North Carolina living in Charleston, SC. It definitely fulfilled my homesickness. One thing I have to tell you, though, that would make your video perfect is you are mispronouncing jocassee. It is pronounced ,"Jo Cassie," and the locals call the mountains "Appa La Chan."
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching and commenting. We were trying to respect both ways of pronouncing and may have failed. In the beginning I pronounce it a few times as you have helped with Jo Cassie, which we have read is the more modern/English/local pronunciation. When my wife Aimee is narrating the Native American story of how the name came about, she tried using what we read to be as the Native American pronunciation, joc-a-see. Is this incorrect? Do you have any insight into the Native American pronunciation that can help us further?
@@GetOverItOutdoors good morning! Jo Cassie is correct, but the inflection is in the middle of the word so, jo Cass ee. This part of the country has so many places with native American names it can be confusing. I'm half Cherokee and even ones I'm unfamiliar with I have to study, lol.
During your travels, I hope you get a chance to ride the Tail of the Dragon. It's the part of the Blue Ridge Parkway near Murphy,NC on the NC/GA border. It would make a great video. Gorgeous up through there. Fun and safe travels!
Thank you so much for your clarification and help. You are right, it can be very confusing even when we try to educate ourselves. But it's great to hear from and get knowledge from someone that is half Cherokee, I'm definitely going to save your contact for future Native American questions we have, if that is alright?
Love the Tail of the Dragon. I had a Mini Cooper not to long ago and took that up there with a local MINI group. What a blast that was. SOOO FUN!!
@@GetOverItOutdoors absolutely, I’ll be happy to help anyway I can. A Mini Cooper up there would be a blast!
@@marylind1144 thanks so much

Well, as a local, we pronounce Jo-CASS-ee. Not sure about the proper native pronunciation.
Thank you! We couldn’t find the correct way. Good to here from a local. Thanks for watching and commenting
