When you get into the altissimo register you are essentially doing the same thing brass players do. You will do the same thing of tightening or biting the reed as you go higher and you have to force yourself to relax and let the air and reed do the work. Just like he is talking about here.

Yea it did... hey. I've got a question for ya. How do I get rid of confidence issues. I'm 1st chair and I'm always afraid of messing up or doing something wrong because I don't want to dissapoint the directors... it leads to me not being very confident if im the only one playing.............. and still not very confident when I'm not... I practice at home and I do really well, then I get to band and it doesn't go well...
Sorry to bother you... I just don't know how to fix it and you seem like the guy to ask......
You have amazing videos by the way. I like watching them..

@@JohnnyBoi-s4zGenerally the more you do it, the better you get at it. What helps most is to "blow past" the fear.
The next time you have a part down, I want you to close your eyes and pretend that you are infront of the audience, or at the performance. Visualizing yourself in that scenario and trying to stay calm is what helped me the most.

I've been struggling with range ever since I started playing trumpet (after 4 years I can just about play a high C, no higher) and I think this might be the main reason. My teacher said I have a tendency to jam the mouthpiece against my top lip when playing a G or higher and it's quite hard to break that habit. Thanks for posting this :)

@@TrumpetGuy26 dw range not that important but to help my private lesson teacher says it’s like learning to speak trumpet, when you speak you don’t think “do this with that vocal cord and do this with My lips” other wise u can’t speak freely and you can’t speak for long that concept works great with trumpet but since you have been playing for 4 years you should start breaking the habit. I like to play one handed to make sure I’m not doing mouthpiece pressure. But I’m just a 7th grader so I don’t know much. Good luck to your trumpet journey

Thanks for this video. I took up trumpet a couple years ago, and find it quite easy and enjoyable (along with many other brass instruments I've been playing since). However, it's a bit of work to reach the G just above the treble staff, so I try your technique to see if it helps me. BTW, I play several woodwinds as well, but I'm finding flute to be the hardest on which to get a decent sound, and my left thumb gets cramped in fingering the keys.

I play piano primarily, I tried to play trumpet and failed to produce a tone (likely a mouthpiece that is too small), I just ended up blowing air or nothing at all with my mouth closing up against the mouthpiece xD Trombone was easier to get a noise out of because of the big mouthpiece so it's like blowing raspberries into it and making music :D Except I can't control the pitch very well because there's two factors controlling pitch, the position of the slide (or the valves) AND the embouchure which makes it just twice as hard to deal with for me.
Maybe I'll get around to actually getting a bigger mouthpiece or something and seeing if that helps.

i blew through the mouthpiece and i found that my lips fully vibrates.i also use the technique of blowing through the leadpipes but still sound dull and unclear. is it because of my air power or my emboucher is too open?and how can i make my tone stay on every dynamic i played?thank you for reading.and also, how long do you take to get that clear tone?

    • @Skeleton_With_VR

its in context to the instrument.
middle G on trumpet is like the "Main" note, you tune with it and its kinda like the "default" note you play when not trying to do anything on the trumpet. an octave above that would be a high G, an octave above the high G would be a double G.
      idk if that makes sense

As a Euph. who is doing their best, to have good sound, this is weirdly helpful; thank you random useful trumpet player 🫶🤣 much appreciated, the part about jamming your mouthpiece into your face is a problem that iv been working on for a few months now, im glad that its at least something normal ( or common to happen )
Also one question: slightly unrelated, I know im not a trumpet player, but do you have any tips on tonguing a note? A really bad habit of mine is COMPLETELY cutting of my air for every note. I can still do accents, staccato, legato notes exc., but getting constant sound is really hard, because I can't keep my air steady. Its a 3 year habit, so I'm really struggling to fix it.
( Sorry its so long, I ended up rewatching the video a couple times and adding more as I went 😅)
    Thank you
