- A big hit for Elkie Brooks in '77. This is the seldom heard original version by authors Ralph Dino and John Sembello from '74. Thanks Karel S (audio).

I played bass on Elkie's version. Leiber and Stoller produced it.This song was originally written by Dino and Sembello only. Leiber and Stoller added a bridge section in 1976 for Elkie's version. The gospel part at the end of Elkie's version was added by the band spontaneously in the studio. Thanks for posting this!
Thanks for clearing that up .
I discovered Ms. Brooks's version out of sheer curiosity... I was wondering what the artist behind that outrageous "Rich Man's Woman" album cover actually sounded like. Her version was a total shot in the heart at the end. I never get tired of it.
Thank you for making that recording.
Bandbase2 thank you. Love Elkie Brooks. Sterling job sir🤙
WOW - great memories I bet you have !
This song could’ve been written for Elkie!
Glad the Elkie Brookes version brought this song the exposure it truly deserved
Great song. Wonderful song. Done very well here. My favourite is Elkie Brookes rendition.
Where did the Betty Grable verse go/come from? Besides Elkie's, I really like the version by Anne Fraser Thomas. For me, it truly captures the pathos of the song and deserves a lot more views.
THAT BRIDGE SECTION REALLY GIVES EXTRA DEPTH... SO A GREAT TEAM EFFORT
Brilliant. Painful. True.
Never heard that before. Wonderfull. And some amazing info from Elkie`s bassist. You tube is great. I`m off to look at bandbase`s site.
bravo.....2021
Thanks for this inside info, much appreciated!
The other versions of this just didn't hit the mark for me. Though they were very good singers . Seems the tempo wasn't right and they are little too forceful . This version perfect for me.
Susan Carley and that is what MUSIC should do for us. Personally my favourite is Elkie, cos I love her. Nowt wrong with this, either. Think we may disagree somewhat but agree it is a wonderful song. Never heard a bad version. Except maybe when I try it.
me either 😊
Also written by Leiber and Stoller.
Great ! There seems to be a terrible (audio) problem with phase, though. Sound techs know about that if you want to fix it ...
Disable mono sound (listen in stereo) is a workaround but yeah.....
I can feel the 70s
This is a great original, love it
Hi Steve.
Great job
Fab.
This is my favorite version . Runner-up version Bernadette Peters .
