Turks had a penchant for impaling the heads of conquered peoples, so Vlad took it a step further and impaled their captured fellow soldiers live on stakes and left them in the path of the invaders so they would know what would become of them. Vlad's kingdom was much better off for his actions. Just a fun bit of history on the man
Imperator Augustus While some would say he was a hero his on people were terrified of him, if I'm not mistaken there is a story of Vlad having important guests over (I can't remember who they were) and they noticed how well behaved all the citizens were, and Vlad wanting to show just how "loyal" they were he placed a Gem encrusted crown in the center of town with no guards to watch it and left it over night and when morning came the crown was still there.
Alucard turning Seras into a vampire was somehow related to his own lost identity. You see the care and love in his eyes when he looks at Seras. Maybe some sort of fatherly love, maybe the idea that he didn't want to be alone or who the hell knows. Whatever it was, it wasn't Alucard (the chaotic amalgamation of millions of identities), it was Vlad, it was his human side making this decision.
Up till now alucard has had this sinister sadistic face that relished in killing but behind all the power and the craziness alucard is gentle towards Seras and Integra and looks at Seras with an innocent smile that shows that he cares about them although they are probably the only people he cares about
