My friends also thought I was nuts when I paid $100 for mine in 2001. Never sold it, never will. It’s been the prize piece of my collection, until I bought little samson cib and shantae cib about a year ago.
I used to collect for the Sega Saturn, specifically japanese imports. In fact, I have over 80 titles from that region and only one European game, even though I live in Spain. But since prices have increased a lot over the last decade I decided to quit buying because titles I am interested in have become insanely expensive.
Honestly, if you sell your games now, you're probably better off. Saturn games have a tendency to rot faster than other disc based games (PS1, PS2, etc) because the foil degrades faster due to their pressing method, and the data layer becomes corrupt faster as a result. Saturn lasers are becoming harder to replace, too. Many of the games work, but many of them don't. These days, with the market the way it is, it's much more sensible to sell off a collection while the market is extremely high and move toward ODEs. I like Saturn games for collecting purposes, but for playing? Too risky.
@@hughang8444 what I have been saying for years. I am sorry, but it’s just plain stupid to buy a Saturn game for hundreds when they are known to be the most susceptible to disc rot, and even if they weren’t a freakin video game just isn’t worth that much money. I got the MODE for the Saturn and I am in gaming heaven with the amazing quality of titles available that I wouldn’t have been able to play on real hardware if I actually tried to get the original discs.
the Saturn was appreciated really just about as much as it deserved. Expensive, difficult to develop for, horrible launch, hardly any games most people would be interested in...

Both are pretty expensive, but I feel are among the best games for the system.
I read about Petrucci making music for that game a long ago in an interview, but totally forgot about that. How cool to catch it now in this video!!! ':- )
“The Binder!” 😂 so glad to see you like the games I sent. After I sent the binders my mother found a bunch of the cases and manuals but unfortunately they ended up getting destroyed in a leaky shed. ( don’t know how they got there) 😭 Shining Force 3, and Dragon Force are still some of my favorites. I know the binder isn’t the best way to store them but I didn’t have the room for the cases. I’m sure a man with your connections can find the cases and manuals. Glad to see them in good hands.
I loved SCUD (the comic)! He was an assassin droid that you would buy from a vending machine (for a hit). And once the droid completes the hit, they self-destruct. Well, Scud became aware of this and instead of finishing his job (which would lead to his doom), he kept his target alive, and paid for that by taking on more jobs. Really fun and interesting comic.
That isn’t going to cause disc rot. He would have to be in a highly humid area for the moisture in the air to get passed the binder and into the plastic sleeve to get it to react with the label on the disc. I would imagine he is managing the humidity for his entire collection of games.
How did I miss this upload. Just got a Saturn and roughly 90 games about four months ago. Wish I had gotten one at launch. Amazing console and love the Japanese imports.
Thanks to the vid you did with Anna a while back, I got my hands on a Saturn and an Action Replay cart about a year ago and now I've got about 50 games, all Japanese but one. I was surprised how cheap and easy to come by Japanese Saturn games really are. I've browsed and grabbed stuff I haven't even heard of because they were being sold at generous prices.

We're starting to see the same with the Dreamcast now. I collected for the Saturn for a little while but kind of gave up; I now only have a few really rare games. I remember playing Astal when it came out and was amazed by the graphics. I also think the original Saturn controller is the most comfortable ever. I am jealous of your collection.
I am glad I got all the saturn game I wanted while they were okay on prices. My Panzer Dragoon Saga was still the most expensive one but nowhere near today's prices... I collect EU only however, so no US or JP games for me...
I don't have many Saturn games but I do have Astal and that is one beautiful game. His attack mechanics and how the screen scrolls in and out is something unique and never seen in another game. That's an IP that should be revived.

I was stationed in Japan in 01 to 04. Managed to snag some of these sega saturn import games for 100 yen to 980 yen. It was a magical time to be a import game collector for sure.
I just bought an English language reproduction off of Instagram ($40), and I FINALLY finished playing through the saga a couple days ago. Took me 2 months, 175 hours. LOVED IT. Such an epic experience. We were really missing out by just getting scenario 1 in America. I, too, hope Sega will one day do an official translation and release on switch or something. Square did it for final Fantasy 5 on the ps1 and seiken densetsu 3 on the collection of mana for switch.
Guardian Heroes is my absolute favorite beat-em up of all time and was the only fond memory I have of playing a Saturn at a friend's house, and I still have yet to see anyone even mention it.
I love my Saturn Collection; some of my all time favorite console games. I can't believe how much these games go for today even though I don't really care about the monetary value. Shining Force III, Dragon Force and Panzer Dragoon Saga are my personal favorites. The artwork and the packaging alone make collecting for the Saturn all the more fulfilling. They just don't package games like this anymore. I especially like all of the Working Design games; just so beautiful. Great video!
9:13 "Sakura Wars" Sakura Taisen Series! This is my favorite series in Saturn software I played 1 and 2 for quite some time at that time How Nostalgic...
I do a very similar thing with my loose Saturn/Dreamcast/Sega CD games...it's tough but over time sometimes you do manage to complete the games. You can't shy away from loose stuff when it is that hard to find and coveted.
Cyber Speedway was my absolute favorite Saturn game. Got hours of fun playing against my friends. I still have some of the songs from the soundtrack on my MP3 player.
So many of those games I used to have....I still have my original Saturn, playable since early 1997. But early on I had the console switched, so I could play multi-disc Japanese games. I still have maybe around 40 titles in my collection. If you don't have it, I'd easily recommend Guardian Heroes. A side-scrolling beat 'em up by Treasure, it's a fantasy motif game with branching paths and multiple endings. You can fight on three planes, and you use a party of heroes to fight your way through hordes of enemies. Lots of humor, too. I had mine for close to 20 years before I decided to buy the Xbox 360 port, which is just as fun. But if one has a decent Saturn collection, they can't go wrong with Guardian Heroes!
Road and Track Need for Speed is one of my favorite old school games. I play it on the 3do. For the time it was amazing and I visit that game every now and then. Still lots of fun
There's a game called "The Legend of Oasis", it's a great ARPG for the SS. BTW it's the sequel to "Beyond Oasis" on Genesis (and both games has soundtrack composed by Yuzo Koshiro :)
Good you have Albert Odyssey but there are still a few holes in your collection: Blazing Dragons, Blazing Heroes, Guardian Heroes, Bulk Slash, Croc, Daytona, Deep Fear, Keio Flying Squandron 2, Linkle Liver Story, Lupin III: Pyramid no Kenja, Ninpen Manmaru, Princess Crown, Ninja Jajamaru-kun: Onigiri Ninpouchou Gold, Magical Drop III, Shining the Holy Ark, Söldnerschild, Space Hulk: Vengeance of the Blood Angels, SteamGear Mash, Sword & Sorcery, Akumajou Dracula X: Gekka no Yasokyoku, and Tengai Makyou.
I love my Saturn and I still have the original box and inserts. Some of my favourite games are Dodonpachi, radiant silvergun, quake, daytona and of course panzer dragoon saga :D
I loved my Saturn. When Software Exc started selling imports I ended up with more Japanese games than US games in time. My favorite imports were CV:SotN because you could play as Maria, I loved Saturn Bomerman (my fav version), D&D collection, many of the 4meg ram cart CPS ports and Phantasy Star collection because at the time it was the only way I could play Phantasy Star 1 because I no longer had my Power Base Converter and the game and this was well before the days of emulation. I did have some of the heavy hitters, and I sold them all about 10 years ago when I got married. I had Guardian Heroes, Dragon Force (one of my favs on the platform), Panzer Dragon Saga (it was good, but thought it was too long and very over rated) and Shining Force III. I am getting most of the games I sold back now... but I'm steering clear from the Saturn. It's just too expensive now, and the disks are all rotting so I'd be pissed if I spent $300 on Dragon Force only for it to rot on my in a couple of years. So for the Saturn I opted for the Rhea ODE which is working out fine for me.
I just started collecting for it about a year ago. I have bought many reproduction games but i don't care. I want to play these games more than just have them sit on a shelf as a rare collectors item. But that does not mean i wouldn't get a copy of panzer dragoon saga if it was sold for a reasonable price.
If you can get around the region lock, either with a mod or some kind of cheat device, Japanese games are *much* cheaper and you can easily find sellers online.
I feel you man I started collecting for it in 05, really happy I did because it is hard to even find complete titles for it anymore. Cases sucked and routinely broke. I got maybe 40-50 US releases
3:10 On the Sega Saturn, the only games that I'm mainly interested in is: - X-Men Children of the Atom - Marvel Super Heroes - X-Men vs. Street Fighter - Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter - Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix I see some DreamCast games in 'The Binder'.
I envy you for having these rare and expensive games in your collection. I rarely ever get to add rare games to my collection, knowing how much money I get. Due to my learning disability, I am unable to work a full time job, yet I’d love to one day own games like Burning Rangers, Snatcher and Panzer Dragoon Saga! Shinobi X (known to you as Shinobi Legions) is one of the few games from my childhood I’ve yet to re-add to my collection!
I started collecting Saturn about a year ago and got some good ones. A couple I’d recommend to any collectors on here. Wish I had more case games but got a good deal disc only. Disc only I have: Primal Rage Virtua Fighters Remix Nights into Dreams Bug!, love this one Bug Too!, love this one too! Area 51 Tomb Raider Gex, so great to see. Love the N64 game. Sega Rally Championship My only import is: The King of Fighters 97 Non-original cases with custom box art I have: Astal, which he praises in the video Three Dirty Dwarves, which is a greatly creative beat-em-up. Complete in good condition original cases I have: Clockwork Knight, a unique platformer. Shining the Holy Ark, the shining star of my collection. Was expensive. MetalJesusRocks, I recommend the Bug! Games, Clockwork Knight, Shining the Holy Ark, Three Dirty Dwarves, and Gex
Burning Rangers, Fighters Megamix, DecAthlete (Athlete Kings), Winter Heat, Die Hard Arcade, Baku Baku Animal, Bubble Bobble/Rainbow islands, Hexen, Side pocket 2, One first person shooter I had was Exhumed, but that was the UK name here, it was Powerslave in the states, Soviet strike, Steep slope sliders, one difference of note was that you guys and Japan got good quality cd cases, the 'european' market's majority releases were easily scratch and markable card cases, towards the end of the saturn life they did switch to megadrive/genesis style paper inserts.
Had a Saturn growing up. I was THAT kid. Today I only have 5 games for it: Die Hard Arcade, Dragonforce, Fighting Vipers, Fighters Megamix, Virtua cop 2, and Virtual On
OMG I just noticed you had Hang-On in your collection! One of my favorite games to play in the arcade growing up was the Hang-On game where it had a motorbike you could actually sit on. Memories!
Here in Brazil, there is a gruop of people who make pressed games from different platforms. Among them, Sega Saturn, PC Engine, PlayStation, Sega CD and Neo Geo CD.

@@nattila7713 I'm sure you're right... for some reason i thought part of the draw was to do old light gun games on modern tvs i musta missed part of how it works
Man this took me back. It was my first system (unless you count the Sega Pico...). I played Virtua Cop for hours with my friends. Virtua Fighter 2 took up a ton of my time too. Heir of Zendor was really really fun too, once you kinda looked at it like a table top strategy game. I sold it all.....so so dumb
Mega Man X4 is my favorite game of all time and the US Saturn copy of it is my holy grail game, just because it’s so rare. You’ve got the disc and I’m jealous of that alone 😭
You made my day! Thanks for this pleasure to see such great collection! I also like collecting on Saturn, but in our region no one even don't know about this console, but this console is awesome cool! Love it much more then other consoles! Thanks!
That's a great collection MJR. Now that emulation got a little better with the new Mednafen cores, I've been hunting a lot of Saturn games that I couldn't play back in the day when I had the console. If I may, here are some suggestions for your game hunting of some more unknown games that I've enjoyed quite a bit: - Hissatsu! (2D action) - Shinrei Jusatsushi Taromaru [Psychic Killer Taromaru] (2D action, amazing game) - Skull Fang: Kuuga Gaiden (2d action/shooter) You may also check the other two games in the Mobile Suit Z Gundam trilogy of 2D games which I like a lot. You already own Mobile Suit Z Gundam: Zenpen Z no Kodou, but there is also the first game (just called Mobile Suit Z Gundam) and Mobile Suit Z Gundam: Kouhen Uchuu wo Kakeru. Love your videos.
Currently sitting at around 120 games for the Saturn and I love it. Games you may want to look into: Batsugun Battle Garegga Blast wind Bulk Slash Burning Rangers Christmas Nights Cyberbots Diehard Arcade and Trilogy DonPachi Fighting Vipers Golden Axe: The Duel Guardian Heroes Gunbird Gungriffon Hyper Duel In the Hunt Iron Storm Legend of Oasis Mr. Bones Mystaria: the Realms of Lore Night Striker S Raident Silvergun (obvious) Sengoku Blade Shining the holy Ark Shining Wisdom Soukyugurentai Street Fighter Alpha Three Dirty Dwarves Wolf Fang X-men vs. Street fighter Take care and thanks for the video.
Great collection! I'm pretty new to Saturn collecting myself, but one game I can recommend to you as a music fan is Wachenröder, a steam punk SRPG, with music by Ian McDonald of the original King Crimson lineup!
I have the UK PAL version of Panzer Dragoon Saga back home along with 1 and 2. I managed to get it at a decent discount, though that was about 18 years ago. I remember the guy in the shop telling me he knew I was getting a bargain but the prices were set at head office so I was in luck.
I only started collecting for Saturn few months ago and already spent few thousand dollars.Panzer dragoon saga was the most expensive game I ever bought at 1200$ but it’s in like new condition and I love my RPGs so just had to have it.I have mostly US versions but some like burning rangers I bought from the UK which was half the price of a US release and still is playable in English.Love my Saturn 🪐💙
Hey MJR! I loved the video! You certainly have a better Sega Saturn game collection than I do! But that's ok! I currently own 19 Saturn games in my collection (combination of US and Japan imports). Here's some games I'm gonna recommend you get: Daytona USA (with how much you love racing games, this is a must have!), Sega Rally Championship, Deep Fear (if you love Resident Evil, this is a must have!), Virtua Fighter 1 or 2, X-Men Children of the Atom (fantastic X-Men fighting game by Capcom), R?MJ The Mystery Hospital (a bizarre Japan import horror game taking place in a hospital), Area 51, Break Point Tennis, and NBA Jam Tournament Edition.
Great collection! Saturn stuff is so pricey, I picked up a few imports, but all I really have are the 25 games I had growing up. I started using Gameye and It was nice to find out that Astal is worth a couple bucks.. Stupid Astal for not having it's title on the spine though. Looks like a blank sitting on the shelf!
I really love collecting for the Sega Saturn. I'm a huge Working Designs fan, so I have those games complete. Luckily, I started before they got wicked expensive!
Nice one. I finally got a hdmi converter and started playing Saturn again. Dragon Force and Saturn Bomberman are my faves. I opened up the Panzer Dragoon Saga (pal) case and still have the receipt for it for $70. This was back in 1998. 🙃
My only complaint about this video is how short it is, I wouldn't mind if this was a couple hours long while you go through and play each game.

Still hope to this day that they will release a Shining Force III complete edition.
My favorite game of all time. My biggest video game dream is for it to be on modern platforms.
@@CRedd9830 That would be amazing!
Watched this on my lunch break through my car speakers. So much rad bass in the intro I hadn’t heard before. Expect nothing less from Metal Jesus 🤘
Thank you for introducing me to Albert Odyssey and Astal.
9:13
"Sakura Wars" Sakura Taisen Series!
This is my favorite series in Saturn software
I played 1 and 2 for quite some time at that time
How Nostalgic...
Hey, metal jesus! Have you ever considered getting reproduction cases for your expensive loose games? It's a decision i've been wrestling with a lot.
Albert Odyssey! I picked this up back in the day when Saturn games were languishing in discount bins. What a great game!
I do a very similar thing with my loose Saturn/Dreamcast/Sega CD games...it's tough but over time sometimes you do manage to complete the games. You can't shy away from loose stuff when it is that hard to find and coveted.
Ah the Sega Saturn. One I've only come in contact with at stores a couple times and one of the few consoles I've never even played. Very cool
The real news here is that Kinsey is moving to Japan.
thats kinda old news tho..
My brother loved the Skud comics and he was so surprised it was released as a video game for the Sega Saturn
Insane collection MJR
Cyber Speedway was my absolute favorite Saturn game. Got hours of fun playing against my friends. I still have some of the songs from the soundtrack on my MP3 player.
Would really recommend powerslave(exhumed) on the saturn. Really great game
You really should get your hands on Dark Savior, my fav Saturn title. I’d love to hear your thoughts on it!
My saturn is still hooked up, but I don't have a huge library. My favorite and most expensive though is Shining Force 3.
Road and Track Need for Speed is one of my favorite old school games. I play it on the 3do. For the time it was amazing and I visit that game every now and then. Still lots of fun
Three Dirty Dwarves is one of my favorite saturn games. Exhumed is also a great game!
Astal is one of my all time favorite games. I still have my original copy from when I was a kid.
Enemy Zero! that game scared the crap out of me as a kid, I would play it with my dad on PC back in late 90s
Great vid, dying to see you PS2 collection, I'm trying to collect for it!
PS2 is a great system to collect for thanks to how common it is (best selling console of all time!) so most games are cheap and easily available.
Never got into collecting for the Saturn and its far too expensive nowadays.
I feel that way about gamecube...I sold my stuff off before I got into collecting, I regret that decision but far to expensive to try and get it back.
Mind you if I see a deal I'll grab
It’s wild to see how much some of these games are worth now. Great video!
3:10 On the Sega Saturn, the only games that I'm mainly interested in is:
- X-Men Children of the Atom
- Marvel Super Heroes
- X-Men vs. Street Fighter
- Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter
- Super Gem Fighter Mini Mix
I see some DreamCast games in 'The Binder'.
My Saturn childhood nostalgia heaven is Virtua Cop 2, Virtua Fighter, Sonic 3d, and my ultimate favorite, Guardian Heroes!!
i remember when i got the Saturn for Christmas when it first launched! loved the virtual fighter games and i had star fighter.
FYI, GameStop in Poulsbo.W.A. is closing. Everything must go. Although it looked like the good stuff might already been snagged.
What an "Eclectic" collection! Love that word!
Did not know that the Trooch had done music for a video game, that's awesome!
I started collecting Saturn about a year ago and got some good ones. A couple I’d recommend to any collectors on here.
Wish I had more case games but got a good deal disc only.
Disc only I have:
Primal Rage
Virtua Fighters Remix
Nights into Dreams
Bug!, love this one
Bug Too!, love this one too!
Area 51
Tomb Raider
Gex, so great to see. Love the N64 game.
Sega Rally Championship
My only import is:
The King of Fighters 97
Non-original cases with custom box art I have:
Astal, which he praises in the video
Three Dirty Dwarves, which is a greatly creative beat-em-up.
Complete in good condition original cases I have:
Clockwork Knight, a unique platformer.
Memories!
0:18 Shake it, Metal Jesus!
Great collection! No console is boring, even the ephemeral Saturn.
This console gives me the warm and fuzzies, finally got one few days ago
Here in Brazil, there is a gruop of people who make pressed games from different platforms. Among them, Sega Saturn, PC Engine, PlayStation, Sega CD and Neo Geo CD.
Guardian Heroes and Radiant Silvergun are must haves
Nobody talks about Firestorm Thunderstrike 2! Verty underated flight sim game! Helicopter is vased of the Apache and everything
Snatcher, Sakura Wars and Magic Knight Rayearth all in one video. Never thought I'd see so many of my obscure favorites together.
Heard of the first two but haven't played
Love the Sega Saturn!!! One of my favorites of all time!!! Great collection!!!👍👍👍
Off-World Interceptor Extreme was one of my favorite games for the Saturn if only for its MST3k-esque Commentary on the cut scenes.
It's great to hear that you're still friends with Anna and sharing games!
i wonder if the driver for the uptick in light gun stuff may be the Sinden light gun... which BTW would probably be a cool video for you to do (perhaps with DMP? i hear he has cookies!)
thanks for all the great content, you got a great big heart, MJR
how could sinden work with a saturn? there is no way...
@@nattila7713 I'm sure you're right... for some reason i thought part of the draw was to do old light gun games on modern tvs i musta missed part of how it works
@@maxadocious i think compatibility was planned but never realized :( at least for playstation... but it was years ago maybe I remember wrong
If I may, here are some suggestions for your game hunting of some more unknown games that I've enjoyed quite a bit:
- Hissatsu! (2D action)
- Shinrei Jusatsushi Taromaru [Psychic Killer Taromaru] (2D action, amazing game)
- Skull Fang: Kuuga Gaiden (2d action/shooter)
You may also check the other two games in the Mobile Suit Z Gundam trilogy of 2D games which I like a lot.
Games you may want to look into:
Batsugun
Battle Garegga
Blast wind
Bulk Slash
Burning Rangers
Christmas Nights
Cyberbots
Diehard Arcade and Trilogy
DonPachi
Fighting Vipers
Golden Axe: The Duel
Guardian Heroes
Gunbird
Gungriffon
Hyper Duel
In the Hunt
Iron Storm
Legend of Oasis
Mr. Bones
Mystaria: the Realms of Lore
Night Striker S
Raident Silvergun (obvious)
Sengoku Blade
Shining the holy Ark
Shining Wisdom
Soukyugurentai
Street Fighter Alpha
Three Dirty Dwarves
Wolf Fang
X-men vs. Street fighter
Take care and thanks for the video.
Hell yes jason been waiting for u to do a video on ur Saturn collection
You're the reason i bought a Sega Saturn! I always wanted one as a kid but I was already that one kid in the neighborhood that had a 3DO.
Anna was the best CIRCUITS & COFFEE or COFFEE & CIRCUITS and she jams on those DRUMS
We miss her, but she's loving her new life in Canada!
