I just had my leg amputated. I'm still in the hospital recovering from it. Your videos really helped me prepare and really helped ease my mind before the surgery. I want to thank you for that.
Kassandra, I hope you meet a group of people like the clients I used to work with when I was a wheelchair tech. When I am feeling down or having trouble finding a bright side, those people are the ones I think of and I try my best to emulate their attitude. Hugs and love in your period of adjustment.
I have been living for 3yrs without one of my hips after a broken femur bone and lots of surgery they decided it was to high risk to try to fix me! I know our situation isn't the same, but I can relate to alot of the same issues. I have to use a walker to walk, and sometimes I think it would be easier to have an amputation!! At least that way I could get a prosthetic! 🤔 Anyway best of luck to you and I promise it will get easier! 💕
I hope you are doing ok with your situation...must be so hard for you to lose your leg...I couldn't even imagine...sending you good vibes and love ❤ best of luck to you ...I bet you are very strong and can handle ANYTHING that comes to you !!! Its to bad JOE didn't answer you...
I've been a amputee for 29 years.I lost my right leg below my knee when I was 23 yrs old . I started walking and running the day they gave me my leg.Stay positive and strong and you can overcome it
The roll under the knees is great for all backsleepers regardless of number of legs! It positions your pelvis differently and is better for you lower back because of it.
Under the knee for amputees especially new amputees is not actually good. It could result in tightening of the hamstrings and knee flexion contractures which are common for below knee amputees and could make prosthetic fitting difficult.
I am above the knee amputee on the left and need to have a blanket tucked between my legs or I can't sleep but get a lot of back pain. so happy I found you, was feeling alone tbh
Also an above knee amputee. I'm generally a side sleeper but if I turn in my sleep on my back often I wake up with my thigh up in the air with no support whatsoever. Like my phantom leg is supporting it still.
Not amputee but chronic pain because of a car accident (I wasn't in the car) I almost always have a headpillow in-between my legs or my right leg is laying on top of it when I sleep on my side.
thank you jo for talking to your audience like your explaining things to friends and not total strangers! edit: omg TYSM! this is the most likes on a comment I've ever gotten!
Here’s a fun one for all my fellow Amps my left legs is BKA sides my R side is a. AKA I also have COPD and have had serious pneumonia for last 2 years living in sparks Nevada needing to be put on ventilator cause I woul stop breathing and my O2 when I was breathing would be in the low 60s 70s so I was in coma for 6 weeks I was told and 4 weeks also next time ventilator can only be on for 2 weeks when on ventilator after two weeks must remove and do a Tracheotomy instead they were just starting to do that to me I saw the tray they were yelling at me it was very weird So the funny part now that you have the base. Since I have so many breathing problems and nerv bone density issues swimming is the best exercise is the way for me to go so the only problem is since I have very short AKA transfemeral is where it was cut off so with one leg longer than the other when I swim I end up swimming in a circle ⭕️ if I try to swim with hands and legs 🦵 lol can only use my arms to go straight no legs i hear there are swimmers legs but I don’t want that I like how free my legs feel in water cuz when legs are off and I use wheel chair I feel like I need shoes and socks off it feels like I’m bare foot lol
Just had my left leg amputated on this past Christmas morning, Merry Christmas to me, I had hard time getting comfy myself. Found if I put a pillow between legs just above my knees helps me alot. Thanks for your videos . As a new amputee I've learned a ton on how to do things .your a true hero and helped me to not get depressed and give up on myself . So again thank you for putting a smile on my face when feeling bummed out and helping me learn to laugh about things I can't change
is it just me or did y’all see the tan line on her leg form her prosthetic.😂 i love your vids and thank you so much for answering some of my questions!
Hi! I dunno if you have this problem anymore, but I’ll say it anyways for everyone who needs it: to get rid of your phantom limb, you can try to read neurobiologist V.S. Ramacharan’s work on this. I’m no ampuntee, but I wanted to give this tip that I found on a scientific book! It’s really long to explain here, but I’m sure in the Internet there’s a good explanation of how.
Your are the most beautiful amputee i have ever seen. Knowing your story makes me sure that you are a wonderful person.Always smiling despite your pain. Hope God blesses you everyday with an abundance of joy and comfort.
I have never had an issue sleeping on either side, my front or my back. But then, as my leg was amputated when I was 3 I haven't really modified how I sleep. I just sleep as I have always slept. Well, I did modify how I sleep when I was 10, but that had nothing to do with my leg and more to do with my pajamas. I asked my mom if it was a sin to sleep naked and when she said no, well I have saved a fortune on pajamas over the last 42 years. As to being cold, that's what blankets are for. As to getting dressed in an emergency, well, I'd have to put my leg on anyway, so I put my pants and my underpants on my leg when I go to bed, then in the morning, or in an emergency all I have to do is slip my stump sock on, stick my stump onto my leg and pull my pants up. It's done in about 5 seconds if I'm in a rush. I have slept with my leg on, but this is very rare.
Have you ever woken up, been really groggy and forget you have one leg amputated. Then you try to do something like stand up out of bed which you used to do with both legs and fail?
Proud that you’ve been more brave to share your stump. No pressure to ever show it but your videos are helping so many people with all different disabilities
How I sleep as a person with scoliosis: like a pretzel 😂 A pretzel that has to move several times throughout the night lol. I’ve got like this very specific figuration that is comfortable for me but then also to make things harder, I can’t stay in any one position the whole night cause that would be too easy 🤪 It helps to find what’s best to sleep when you have a body difference. It feels like everyone and their mom loooves memory foam, but for me it’s the most uncomfortable kind of mattress out there lol. I need a stiff support, room to sleep diagonally, and props for my legs to get my hips in a good position. Last thing I want is to sink endlessly into foam 😝
I feel the same way about memory foam!! It’s so uncomfortable for me - I also have spinal issues. Would you mind sharing what kind of mattress you have if you like it?? :)
Neat. It's weird seeing an amputated leg that still has the knee tho. My grandpa also was an amputee but they cut it off above the knee. It was the other leg however. Sorry if this makes anyone uncomfortable.
Well, technically she didn't need to have an amputated that high but where they would have been cutting off to preserve as much like as possible it would have given her less mobility and options for prosthetics. So her decision was to get it that high for greater mobility on prosthetics.
So this is about the second time I asked- what did you/the doctors do with the leg? I heard you can burn it, burry it or keep it. Great job on the video BTW!
They do not let you keep it. Most of the time it is donated to universities/ medical schools for research. I tried to keep a piece of my bone and was told they can’t give out human tissue
Thank you for sharing all of this intimate information with us. You are changing perspectives all over the place. You definitely changed mine :-) thank you
Modifications...I didn't even thing of that till now...My brain was like: Hm? You are asleep so therefore not concious..why should it matter? But I think it would be really hard sleeping with Sunshine ;)
Sleeping or laying on your stomach is supposed to be helpful for amputees to maintain backward motion flexibility in the residual limb. It helps reverse contractures too.
I was born with no legs below the knees and I also lay on my side, but I also have a nice thick pillow between my legs to avoid having to use my muscles to keep them in place. I strongly recommend it, it's much better for your back, honestly.
sleep modifications are really interesting to me as a fellow disabled person. It’s not something that’s talked a lot about in our community but I think it should be more because for someone like me with frequently dislocating joints and chronic pain finding right sleeping positions is hard and it’s something doctors and physical therapist have never been able to help with because most literally don’t think about what their patients go through when sleeping. I feel like if our community should talk about it more we could help each other out more by sharing what has helped us.
Not gonna lie every time I see prosthetic limb not on kind of makes me shiver but good for you for like figuring the shit out I don’t think I could you are stronger than me mentally I think would be the word
I'm a left below knee amputee, and I find it comfortable to sleep on my right side. If I try to sleep on my left side, my stump feels crushed. Sometimes i will even sleep on my stomach and arch one of my legs. No pain as such thankfully, apart from pins and needles sometimes. Love your videos, Jo! :)
I always sleep on my right side because I’m amputated on my left. Your videos are very interesting to me because I have been an amputee since I was born and you have not so the difference on how we do things even both being amputated is cool to see. You make my favorite shorts! 😊

Your are the most beautiful amputee i have ever seen. Knowing your story makes me sure that you are a wonderful person.Always smiling despite your pain. Hope God blesses you everyday with an abundance of joy and comfort.
This was very insightful! I initially thought laying on your right side would be more uncomfortable with having a heavy weight on your sensitive knee.
love how positive you always are, like how you state it's just little adjustments you have to make to sleep on your back comfortably

I was just about to say that lol
Yes I did it in back of my truck once dam near fell off the back lol
Don’t forget April is show your metal month or Amputee month yeah
ХАЙ,ПРИВЕТ ИЗ РОССИИ,

I love how you explain things 🥰
I love your attitude so much!! It's contagious!! ✨🤍✨🤍

I've slept with a thin pillow under my knees for years and find it very comfortable. It took some time to adjust, but I'm glad I did.

So matter of fact, and straight to the point. You're an excellent ambassador. Thanks for work.
That tanline, man. That's awesome
I'm happy that she always looks comfy in these videos, I wish her a life of comfortability (?
Suggestion. “pillow sock” under the knee pillow sewed into a fluffy sock
You are so cool. Thank you for educating the masses and being an inspiration for those who need you.

A concept/concern I've not thought about, but definitely questions to have. Learned something today.
Thank you.
and here I thought it would be easier to sleep as an amputee
Honestly seeing your videos made me realise how much I take my limbs for granted
I sleep with a sock on my residual limb and it really helps.
Does it cushion the limb from contact and reduce the sensations, Mario?
@@Bear-cm1vl yes, reduces the sensations. Mine is more like a sleeve versus a sock you'd wear on your foot

God bless... You are an icon of courage.

Thanks for clearing that up Jordan,I was curious about that.
Very interesting! Keep up the great videos😄
I was really curious about this actually so thanks 😊
All your videos are extremely informative and helpful. Wish I had had these for reference years ago when my mom became an amputee because of diabetes.
Thank you for sharing and being brave.
it's amazing your spirit is very motivating to everyone.. wish you always success
Thank you for teaching me I learned a lot and then honestly makes sense I'm so glad that you're able to sleep comfortably that's the greatest
