Will never understand how a parent can kill their child because the child choose to love who they want. No one can choose the colour of their skin or the parents they were born to. Using colour or religion to justify killing is very sad.
I don’t think the Dad killed his son over who he loved. I believe he had guilt over signing the paper to send the children to the death camp. He knew that his son, and his sons child were going to die. It was inevitable. My thought watching it was that by shooting his son he was saving who he could and a part of his son would live on.

His acting to me is perfect and so so soulful. What makes an actor perfect and favourite to me is many things the most important one of them is being able to deliver emotions and passion without being too cold or too fake and exaggerated and I in response react with his passion with all of my senses and he did this perfectly.
The ending should make every person of every race really see how demonized and evil racism is. It destroys love all the time as we see in the end. If it wasn't for the evil of racism they would of enjoyed a life loving each other. This is how it is when you fall in love with black. He was brave to love her anyway. Died in his love for her.

Saw clips of this film a few days ago and never have I cried so hard like I did watching it. It makes me wonder how many relationships during WW2 that were considered forbidden came to such a tragic end because of the evilness of the Nazis. This sort of thing still goes on today with many people.
One time I was crying from a movie and my dad was like what happened because he was worried and I said the movie made me cry then they made fun of me for two days

The film took a little while for it to hit its stride (for me) but it did get there, the most intense scenes were in the camp. And I'd actually say it has a bittersweet ending leaning towards hopeful. Yes, Lutz death was sad but it's not the only relationship that's important to Leyna. While Asante (the director) features romance in her films, it's the familial relationships that are most important. Side note: You might be interested in Belle (2013) if you’d like a happier ending, same director, type of couple and it’s another period piece. Gugu Mbatha-Raw is excellent in it.
