Skirts are a perfect option for summer. I feel a bit more put together in a skirt rather than shorts when going out to run errands, or anything. I had not seen most of these patterns, thanks for sharing. Looking forward to the reveals.
Thanks, Jan! I do love a skirt, but I don't have many in my wardrobe. And a free skirt pattern? How can you lose? The 31st March is going to be a lot of fun!
Feel like 2023 is the year of the skirts! Love your blue floral! Thanks for sharing. I wonder if the MN one would work in a lightish weight denim....ooooo
Thanks so much for taking part again Theresa, I love your approach to the challenge & your clear explanation of which fabrics would be suitable for each pattern , very useful for anyone new to sewing. Can't wait to see which one you make 🤗
I also want to make the pocket skirt. Looking forward to see which one you make for the challenge. This will be my second year. I’m planning on making a girls dress either for project dress, a girl or for my granddaughter. Another wonderful video, Teresa. Thank you.
I'm all about the skirts at the moment so those choices are very interesting. I love the last skirt you showed because I'm not a fan of elastic waists. I have a top made in the same blue floral linen and it was lovely to sew. I'm interested to see your frugal makes Theresa.
I'm really wanting more skirts in my life, so they seemed like the perfect choice for this challenge for me. The last one is really beautiful, and I think it would suit lots of body types. I've downloaded it, whether I get around to making it for this challenge or not!
Hi Theresa 🤗 I love the Peppermint Pocket Skirt! I’ve made three, they are such a quick sew and I find them easy and comfortable to wear. I decrease the fullness of the pockets a little by “trueing” the top of the lower side panel to match the width of the upper side panel where the two parts meet (hope that makes sense!). This only takes out about 2cm on each pocket but I find it helps make them a lot less oversized, while still having some volume. Happy sewing, can’t wait to see what you make at the end of March 😊
That's really helpful, thank you! I feel like that would make it less over the top with more structured fabrics and really opens up the options for this skirt. I definitely need to make one!
@@LostMyThread I thought of it straight away when you mentioned that you were not too sure about using more structured fabrics. It doesn’t seem like a lot but it does help! 😊
Hey Theresa! Thanks so much for this video. I was feeling uninspired… even about sew frugal. You made such lovely recommendations especially the Florence skirt! I’m dropping everything and making one ASAP! I have the perfect stash fabric 😀#florenceskirt #sizemesewing
Can’t wait to see your makes. So sorry about the pockets!! Some designs just don’t lend themselves to pockets 😞 check out my Vienne Dress and Florence Trousers for THE best pockets xxx
Haha, don't worry. I don't really think that pockets would work with the silhouette of this skirt. I just thought I'd mention it as a design feature to bear in mind. As much as I like a good pocket, I've never let their absence stop me from making a pattern that I liked. 😉
Great video Theresa. I'm looking forward to seeing what you decide to make from these great options! I haven't used needlecord myself, but does it gather well? I would have thought it could get a bit bulky in those gathered areas (and back waistband) of the Sew Over It Ruby skirt. (As I said, I'm not an expert in that fabric though.) I think the blue cotton linen blend would be a fab Ruby; so lovely and summery. If you want a skirt with a button placket for that needlecord, may I remind you of the Megan Nielsen Matilda dress...? (Not for this challenge though, obviously.) Think about how swooshy it'd be. You'd get the drama of the skirt without any bulk from gathers, and it would have the denim skirt vibe, and those pockets 😍
You make a good point about the needlecord. It's not quite as thick and bulky as wider whale corduroy, but it could end up a little full at the back. I think it would just create a different look. I'm totally seeing what you are saying about the Matilda dress, though. I love that idea! Agreed, not appropriate for this challenge, but that might just have to be the future of this fabric... The blue floral is my favorite for the Ruby. It's giving me summer vibes just thinking about it!
Such fab recommendations, Theresa! Thank you so much for the shout-out about my tutorial for the Peppermint Pocket Skirt! It is such a fun, rewarding sew! 💗
My 9 year old is now sewing. Where can I find easy kid patterns for her to try? She’s seen a skirt, pillow and tote bag but she’s just getting started.
How exciting! It sounds like she's doing really well! I'm sorry, but I'm not the best person to suggest patterns for kids because I don't have any. Most of the sewing patterns I use are for adults. I know that there are a few vloggers who make kids clothes, so you can always start there. Sew Amelia, Christine Sews a Lot, Made by Cath Crafts, Sew for Serenity and My Sewper Power are channels of RUclips vloggers who sew for kids. It might be worth checking them out?
That's so useful to hear, thank you! It probably depends on the height of your waist. I'm very high waisted, and I was planning on shortening it by 1", as I'm also 5'6. I might double check the finished garment measurements to be on the safe side!
I actually decided to measure the pattern piece down to the notch for the pocket, but that probably depends a lot on the length of your torso/waist heights. I wish they had that measurement on the finished garment measurements!
Not often, but I go to them if I can't find what I need elsewhere. They have lots of choice, but I feel like their fabric quality is more variable than at my other favorite fabric shops.
@@karolmolpus9536 it's tricky for me to say since I haven't done regular fabric shopping there for so long. I've ordered fabric from Blackbird Fabrics in Canada, who have domestic shipping rates for the USA and Melanated Fabrics. I was really happy with everything that I got from them both and would confidently order again. Sara of Knotty Gnome Crafts recently made a video about her favorite fabric shops in the US. It might be worth checking that video out!
Amazing video 👍🌺🌿☘🌹🌵🌻🍀
Thank you so much!

I do too, so why don't I have many in my wardrobe? Working on that! 😉
Great video I like the way you laid it out and included instagram feed:)
Thank you! I always try to make the videos I'd like to see.
Haya. Great patterns in beautiful fabrics 🤩Look forward to which pattern & fabric you choose 🤩Thanku 'sew' much for sharing 🪡✂🧵🙂

Very timely! I have been looking for a free skirt pattern.
Perfect! I love it when that happens. 😁

I love a good pattern comparison! 😉 I've been planning my next Clash of the Patterns, and this is probably good prep. 😁
U have a great sense of choosing the right fabric for the right pattern❤
Thank you! It's taken years of trial and error! 😉
This is just what I am looking for. My mum just ask me to make a skirt for her. I just started sewing 😂.
Perfect!! Lots of these are really beginner friendly. Maybe just stay away from the last one that is more precise with the fitting. Good luck!

@@LostMyThread Thank you for the help
Really check the length on that pocket skirt. It turned out way too long on me, and I’m 5’6” tall.
I agree-the pattern indicates that it was created for a person who is 5’7”. I wonder if I should also adjust the height of the pockets.
