Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl will always be my favorite monsters, no matter what future generations present. Too often are they underestimated due to their ATK, but this is not what makes them superior. That is what I call “Kaiba mentality”. It is their extensive support cards that leave all others inferior. Especially now, with monsters like “The Dark Magicians” and the new support magics and traps. I love how all the protagonists Ace Magicians (well minus Yusei and Jaden) are all symbolic of their development OG: Dark Magician was Atem/Yami's best friend and Yugi and Atem evolved over the course of the series alongside giving Dark Magician new evolutions. Zexal: Yuma had to grow a lot from the start, and Gagaga's effects allowed him to get his XYZ summons out faster, and when Yuma had to beat Astral, Gagaga was there for him when Astral used Utopia against him for their coronation duel. Arc V: From Timegazer to Paladin, Yuya got them as he learned the only way he can entertain people was to appeal to their hearts rather than forcibly trying to change their mindset. VRAINS: Yusaku got Cyberverse addition when Ai returned in season 2 as they improved their bond to fight SOL Tech and Lightning. SEVENS: Yuga's built roads and inventions that have failed, but never stopped working on them as every failure lead to his success, including making Rush Duels. All the sacrifices of his monsters all Seven Roads to combine all their hard work into one big attack. Though Yusei's situation makes sense, I'm surprised the Neo-Spacians and Elemental Heroes didn't have a magician themed hero lol. You'd think Zatanna and Doctor Strange would be a good basis lol.
Well, Yusei had Effect Veiler, but nothing more than that. I guess the symbol is that it helps Yusei prevent a disaster befalling onto his monsters or him from the opponents monster effects, just like he helped prevent the world/city falling into ruin a couple of times.
False. Black Magician/Mahado was Yami Yugi/Atem's strongest/closest servant in the manga and Japanese version of the anime. The anime added some childhood relationship to Atem and Mahado that wasn't in the manga. A good majority of the final arc in the anime doesn't follow the manga. They just followed the main points. "Friend" is a English dub thing since Yami Yugi/Atem refers to him as servant. Yami Yugi/Atem was the only one giving Black Magician new evolutions in the series including The Dark Side of Dimensions.

I liked the fact that it could be used as a counter to the Blue Eyes archetype as it would overpower both the Ultimate (Since it would have at least 4900 ATK) and Shining Dragons (It's ATK boost effect is 500 per Dragon on field or in the graveyards (GYs) compared to Shining's 300 per Dragon in GY).

I always liked Silent Magician LV8. Her effect of not being affected by spell cards will render some spells that prevents attacks or removes her from play, useless. Combined with Endymion, Mighty Master of Magic that uses spell counters to negate the activation of spell/trap cards, they're a good combination

You forget Dark Paladin, the fusion monster between Dark magician and buster blader. This monster is remembered as the monster that finished off Kaiba in the most important duel between two rivals.
At first I was a little confused by the title cuz I thought it meant duelers who mainly use Spell cards in their strategies but I understood once I saw the thumbnail. I remember Gagaga magician. OMG once you mentioned Utopia I remembered bad memories of getting completely owned by one of my friends cuz Everytime he used Utopia on me. So I basically got rekt. Mai and Akiza would probably be in the top. They come over as the strongest females with the best character developments and backstories. Also I dig both of their decks.
Exodia will always be number one as far it’s sheer power. Dark Magician is very iconic & can be extremely powerful. But the fact that drawing all 5 of Exodia’s pieces wins every duel is so OP. It doesn’t hurt the fact that Exodia’s legacy & design is also amazing.
My favorite "Spellcaster" is definitely Dark Magician Girl. (Don't get the wrong idea.) (Don't get any ideas about my girl.) Edit: Dark Magician Girl is also my favorite monster in general.

Honorable mentions, perhaps? Astrograph Sorcerer, looking at you! Also, Dark Magician is relevant even in today's Yu-gi-oh because it got yet another fusion monster, and this one might be very near broken, in Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon. There's even this Red-Eyes Fusion card that sends the fusion materials for Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon from the deck to the GY. Who cares if you can't special summon other monsters during the turn, let alone give up your normal summon for the turn as well?
Would’ve liked to have seen Silent Magician on this list, since she symbolizes Yugi surpassing Atem in the final duel. It really sucks that she didn’t show up in Dark Side of the Dimensions.
It's a shame that spell casters don't stand a chance against my Zombie deck. Took part in a lot of tournaments back in the day and never struggled against spell caster decks.Still Sour that I didn't have enough money to buy a limited edition Dark magician girl card(1/200 in the world) during one of the tournaments. I wanted it so bad since she is one of my favorite cards. My Yo-Gi-Ho cards are now retired but I still have them in a display case!^^ My favorite equip cards would probably be "Wicked Breaking Flameberge Baou".....go look it up. It's an insane card that can get you out of insane situations, Like some water deck defense builds.
I Love every Spellcaster type Monsters I also used to have Exode Master Of The Guard the downside is that Exode had 0 attack points so the only way to use him effectively was to play shield and sword or another card that switches Attack and Defense points. Also, in order to bring Exode out you need a Sphinx card out on the field to serve as tribute.

Saw Timegazer Magician and was then surprised that Sorcerer of Dark Magic didn't turn up since it's a trap negation effect with 3200 ATK. Although the Sorcerer did only appear in one duel, in the first movie.

So i strongly recommend watching it in sub if youre craving to see yugioh again but you want to have something more out of it. The sub watchers and dub watchers, watched absolutely different things when it comes to the ygo franchise
I should mention that gagaga magician's effect essentially locks you into Xyz Monsters, since it has a restriction which prevents it from being used to Synchro Summon
The dark magician signifies hope for yugi when things looks bleak. Even against kaiba's blue eyes at 3k ATK. No matter what happens yugi uses either his 3 dark magicians, or buster bladders to get him out of a brink of defeat outside of this Egyptian god cards

You forget Dark Paladin, the fusion monster between Dark magician and buster blader. This monster is remembered as the monster that finished off Kaiba in the most important duel between two rivals.
It was used once, doesnt make it legendary

Exodia will always be number one as far it’s sheer power.
Dark Magician is very iconic & can be extremely powerful.
But the fact that drawing all 5 of Exodia’s pieces wins every duel is so OP. It doesn’t hurt the fact that Exodia’s legacy & design is also amazing.
My favorite "Spellcaster" is definitely Dark Magician Girl.

Also, Dark Magician is relevant even in today's Yu-gi-oh because it got yet another fusion monster, and this one might be very near broken, in Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon. There's even this Red-Eyes Fusion card that sends the fusion materials for Red-Eyes Dark Dragoon from the deck to the GY. Who cares if you can't special summon other monsters during the turn, let alone give up your normal summon for the turn as well?

Would’ve liked to have seen Silent Magician on this list, since she symbolizes Yugi surpassing Atem in the final duel. It really sucks that she didn’t show up in Dark Side of the Dimensions.
It's a shame that spell casters don't stand a chance against my Zombie deck. Took part in a lot of tournaments back in the day and never struggled against spell caster decks.Still Sour that I didn't have enough money to buy a limited edition Dark magician girl card(1/200 in the world) during one of the tournaments. I wanted it so bad since she is one of my favorite cards. My Yo-Gi-Ho cards are now retired but I still have them in a display case!^^ My favorite equip cards would probably be "Wicked Breaking Flameberge Baou".....go look it up. It's an insane card that can get you out of insane situations, Like some water deck defense builds.

Dark Magician and Dark Magician Girl is my Special Card since I'm playing Yu-Gi-Oh Trading Card Game back in 2004.
I Love every Spellcaster type Monsters I also used to have Exode Master Of The Guard the downside is that Exode had 0 attack points so the only way to use him effectively was to play shield and sword or another card that switches Attack and Defense points. Also, in order to bring Exode out you need a Sphinx card out on the field to serve as tribute.

Saw Timegazer Magician and was then surprised that Sorcerer of Dark Magic didn't turn up since it's a trap negation effect with 3200 ATK. Although the Sorcerer did only appear in one duel, in the first movie.
I’m really partial to Dark Magician of Chaos. Something so powerful that it got an errata in the real life card game.

@@IMysticCobaltI Its not that its bad. Its good for its age actually. Its just the story is ABSOLUTELY different. So its like rewatching a new show, with the same characters if you get what i mean. So i strongly recommend watching it in sub if youre craving to see yugioh again but you want to have something more out of it.

I should mention that gagaga magician's effect essentially locks you into Xyz Monsters, since it has a restriction which prevents it from being used to Synchro Summon

The dark magician signifies hope for yugi when things looks bleak. Even against kaiba's blue eyes at 3k ATK. No matter what happens yugi uses either his 3 dark magicians, or buster bladders to get him out of a brink of defeat outside of this Egyptian god cards
